LAD and Free Agency???

November 6, 2021

There has been a lot of speculation about FA the Dodgers may want to re-sign or sign.  We have no idea what the CBT will be, or what the penalties will be if a team exceeds that limit with the upcoming CBA.  Currently the taxes can reach a maximum 50% for all salaries above the CBT, and can reach a total of 95% for all salaries greater than $40MM in…

Wheelin’ and Dealin’

July 23, 2021

Earlier in the week, there was a little difference in opinion with respect to the Billy McKinney acquisition.   I continue to read how porous LAD’s defense is, and with a gimpy Mookie Betts who may need late-inning defensive help to get him off his hip, a slowing AJ Pollock, questionable defense of Matt Beaty, and the need for CT3 to spend more time in the infield, AF went out and…

Debacle In Denver

February 5, 2021

On Monday, the Cardinals and Rockies finally completed a trade that sends  All Star and Gold Glove winner, Nolan Arenado and 50 million dollars to the Cardinals for 5 players, only one who has MLB experience, LHP Austin Gomber. None of the other 4 players played baseball last year due to the shutdown of the minor leagues. Reaction to the trade by the fan base has been almost entirely negative….

Kike’ Hernandez – The Banana Man No Longer A Dodger

January 24, 2021

By now, everyone knows that Kike’ Hernandez will not be back in Dodger blue. Some fans are very saddened by his departure. I go on Twitter a lot because guys like Rosenthal and Passan, and even Heyman, post there quite often, and even break the news of signings there. I know some here subscribe to The Athletic, but I just cannot afford something like that so I get my news…

Financing in MLB

December 20, 2020

The financing of a baseball season is going under the microscope this offseason and potentially into next season.  There is no question that MLB lost several billion in revenues. According to Forbes’ estimates from 2019, as gathered by the University of Michigan sports economist Rodney Fort, MLB teams made a total of $9.9 billion as follows: REVENUE (IN BILLIONS) UNDER… CATEGORY NORMAL SEASON HALF-SEASON W/O FANS* Gate receipts $2.84B $0.00B…

Coors Field Hangover

December 14, 2020

While most everyone was saying that DJLM was a guarantee to re-sign with NYY, there are comments emanating from Cashman that indicate that DJLM is not a slam dunk.  However, the negotiations have gone nowhere in a while.  Could it be that some other team is making headway into the negotiations causing Cashman some concern?  I have been a DJLM advocate for nearly the last three years.  I was disappointed…

How Do You Like Me Now?

November 18, 2020

In October of 2014, the ownership of the Dodgers decided to go in a new direction and named Andrew Friedman President of Baseball Operations. GM Ned Colletti was moved to another position in the organization and Friedman brought in Farhan Zaidi as the new GM. At the time, the only thing I knew about Friedman was that he had been running the Tampa Bay Rays. I knew they had gotten…

THE ART OF THE WALK – – MEET JOHN “T-BONE” SHELBY

June 7, 2020

From the time they are “knee-high to a grasshopper”, young boys start day-dreaming about hitting that dramatic walk-off homer to win the game, playoffs or, even better yet, the World Series.  If it isn’t the a homerun, it’s a Doug Flutie “Hail Mary” type pass to win the game in the last seconds, or hitting nothing but net from half-court as time runs out.   We love the thought of being…

Cape Cod Baseball League

May 29, 2020

A long time ago when the earth was young – well maybe not that long ago – I visited the Cape Cod region of Massachusetts. It was almost 45 years ago and it was a whirlwind visit as a day trip from East Bridgewater, a small community about 30 miles south of Boston. My wife and I were visiting relatives in the East Bridgewater area and they took us on…

Are We Re-Experiencing Collusion by MLB?

February 9, 2020

Is there in fact collusion going on in MLB?  With all of this backlash on the various trades, it is becoming more clear to me that if the MLBPA did not have Tony Clark as the union president, the union would clean the clock of MLB and it’s own lightweight, Rob Manfred.  Boston is not hurting in revenue or operating income, and can certainly afford the salaries and resultant luxury…
