The St. Louis Cardinals have always been an iconic organization in MLB and arguably the most successful NL via winning more WS than any other NL team, trailing only the NYY. The Cardinals have won 11 WS in 19 appearances. They also hold the ire of Dodger fans as St. Louis has beaten the LAD in four postseason series (1985 NLCS, 2004, NLDS, 2013 NLCS, and 2014 NLDS) against a
People are offended by team names and no matter what you name them, there is probably another group that is offended. I guess that right about now, you name a team based upon how few people you can offend. How about we name the Washington Football Team the Washington Generics? Oh wait, that would probably offend the Atlanta Brand Names.
There has been a lot of discussion as to where the Dodgers farm system currently ranks. It is unquestionable that for eight years, the Dodgers were routinely rated as a top ten MiLB system, mostly residing in the top 5. But heading into the 2021 season, most (if not all) of the major Baseball Publications no longer consider the Dodgers to have a top ten MiLB system. I have included
Last week baseball lost another legend. Henry Aaron. Though he never played for the Dodgers, I had a deep respect for him as a man, and a ballplayer. I cannot imagine how it was for him growing up a black kid in the south. Nor can I imagine the hate directed at him when he was closing in on breaking the all-time HR mark set by Babe Ruth. He had
In late November after the Dodgers won the World Series, Dodger s President, Andrew Friedman said: Let’s be pigs. Let’s do everything we can to go out next year and do it again. Those were plain and very clear words. Andrew Friedman simply said that he wanted to win again in 2021 and he exhorted everyone in the Dodger s organization to do everything they could to do it again! End of
“Well, it’s a significant demarcation,” Mets president Sandy Alderson said. “I wouldn’t say that it’s a line that cannot be passed, but it’s definitely a significant consideration when you get to that level.” Per Andy McCullough, The Athletic, “by instructing Alderson to mind the luxury-tax threshold…new Mets owner Steve Cohen has conformed with his 29 colleagues in baseball’s ownership class. The competitive balance tax operates as baseball’s de facto salary
The Dodgers have some Junkyard Dogs, like CT3, Mad Max, Cody, Corey, Barnsie, even Mookie! Justin Turner is one too. I am not sure that pitchers can qualify for the Junkyard Dog Club, but position players can. Are there any other Junkyard Dogs who can step up?
There has been a lot of chatter about the cool reception the current group of FA’s are receiving. DJLM got $90MM, but he is going to be spreading that over 6 years for a team favorable AAV. George Springer turned a small bidding war between the two teams that figured to spend (Mets and Jays) into a Toronto overspend of 5 years $150MM. That was about $25MM more than the
What I do know is that while I cannot individually predict what each pitcher will do, I feel very confident that collectively this bullpen can be great. There is a lot here to like, but that s my opinion. Let s see if I can rub your noses in the Facts come October!
There has been a lot of talk by MLB fans in general how the Padres may have caught the Dodgers. On the East coast, most in NY and Atlanta believe they have better 26-man rosters. Dodger fans of course take offense at such a charge. None of the four teams are finished completing their rosters, but I thought I would take a more in depth look at a Dodgers/Padres comp,
By now, everyone knows that Kike Hernandez will not be back in Dodger blue. Some fans are very saddened by his departure. I go on Twitter a lot because guys like Rosenthal and Passan, and even Heyman, post there quite often, and even break the news of signings there. I know some here subscribe to The Athletic, but I just cannot afford something like that so I get my news
A couple of weeks ago Jeff asked if I would do a brief write-up on two Dodger prospects Nick Robertson and James Outman. I had previously profiled Robertson so that one was easy with an update. Today I took a look at Outman and found there was not a lot of detail available on him. I do remember him quite well in his time with the Great Lakes Loons
