LA Dodger Talk has been around almost 20 years. We have written about the good times and the bad times. We have had our hearts broken and 2020 has been a very rough year for everyone, but Dodger fans have something to show for 2020 that no one else has:
A World Championship!
It was thirty-two years, but it finally happened and no one can take that away! 2020 was a very bad year and yet it was a very good year in some ways. We have lost some people to the pandemic and that has hurt many families… a lot. But, we can be Thankful for what we have and if we still have some family, that is always important. Sometimes a little child can put it all into perspective:

I have been a Dodger fan since I noticed wally moon looks like my dad, I am thankful for the health God gave me and my family, and hopefully ever one here on this board. Live in the San Gabriel valley and 72yrs old equal to a lot here that post. Would like to think Mark,AC,2D2, And all that post here, I read LADT ever day very enjoyable and makes my day.Happy Thanksgiving to all and stay safe.
Thank all of you (especially the big 5-6 of you who do your wonderful articles). I read LADT every day and post now and then, especially this year during the playoffs. I grew up in Long Beach (Poly HS) and have been a Dodger fan since they moved to LA. I used to go to Hollywood Stars games with my dad then to Dodger games at the Colosseum before Dodger Stadium. I moved to Norcal in the early 60’s but have never switched to the Dark Side in spite of being surrounded by Giant’s fans. Went to the clinching game of the ’88 World Series in Oakland with one of my sons. Sadly, we lost our son this year so, along with COVID, it’s been a very difficult year. The Dodgers WS win this year was the one bright spot. I’m thankful for that and for my lovely family, relatively good health for my age (76) and my lifelong love of the best sports team in the world–the Los Angeles Dodgers! Go Blue! I still work some. I’m a CPA with my own practice and although I have down-sized I still go to the office a few days a week and have some long-time clients I still enjoy working with. My staff does most of the work so I can just spend quality time with them and my clients. Very fortunate!

I lost 30 pounds on the COVID-19 diet and probably gained 67 back today!
It was the best Thanksgiving ever… in no small part to the readers who posted today.

Have lived in Los Angeles 40 years. Coming from Maine it took a few years to shake off the Red Sox loyalty. But have been a Dodger fan for 32 years.
2020 was tough for our family because we lost our beloved 42 year old son-in-law ( brain tumor ) in February. It was a joy though today to spend Thanksgiving with our daughter and our two grandchildren. I’m thankful they are doing well in spite of their loss.
I’m 70, ex Coast Guard, I greatly appreciate Mark and all the main contributors and everyone else on this site.
LADT has been a blessing, one more wonderful thing to give thanks for.
Been a Dodger fan for many years. Started in Canada and continued in SoCal. In NorCal now. Yesterday was my husband’s birthday. Sometimes it falls on Thanksgiving. When it does we just put a candle in the turkey and sing Happy Birthday to you. JUST KIDDING.

I’ve always been jealous of my American friends being able to enjoy Thanksgiving, as it’s something we don’t celebrate in the Uk, and yet it’s such a relevant ideal, especially in this year of all years.
We really do have a lot to be thankful for, and yet it’s easy to forget.
AC/Jeff – you stepped up for everyone here when you agreed to take the reigns. You have managed in your own way to make this place even bette, and of that you should be proud. Thanks for your thoughts earlier – they are reciprocated my friend.
It’s true to say that the day I found this place back in 2012, my overall enjoyment and knowledge of the Dodgers increased hugely, and nothing has changed. It’s better now than it’s ever been.
Michael has been a revelation – and having Badger back has given the place a bit of a lift.
I hope Vegas & Rudy will start to post again, and I hope I’m able to share a beer or two with Pete, Badger and Bobby next year at a game.
My only regret is that MJ couldn’t have enjoyed this triumphant season with us.
Finally, big thanks to Mark for making this happen 365 days a year.
You should be very proud of yourself for creating this community. Places like this are very rare.

I’m full. Polishing off some apple crumb cake at the moment. Last turkey I ate was in 1970. Not getting together with anyone this year, for personal reasons. I’d tell you but it would just go viral.
Most of you already know my story so I won’t bore you with it. Been going round and round with Mark for 20 years. It’s been good, and bad, but that’s the way it sometimes is with alpha dogs. Been a Dodger fan since ‘58, though that season was over when I moved from Raytown to Canoga Park. Fell asleep every summer night listening to Vinny and Jerry. Went to the ‘59 World Series game Koufax pitched. Like Cassidy, I value my own opinions and give myself an A- posting grade.
I got a shirt similar to Mark’s but it’s gray.
Ok, phone call from kid. The one in prison. Some of you know that story too

Been a dodger fan since 1959, been to many World Series games including the first two and only two games played in LA in 1988 for the World Series. I’m thankful for a team that always puts a winning squad on the field nearly every season. I am thankful for my good friends like our beloved team historian Mark Langill. A Very Happy Thanksgiving to all our wonderful neighbours to the south of us in the US of A. I am thankful for being on the right side of the grass with our incredible family. I am 78 year old potato farmer in Alberta, Canada and became a Dodger fan in 1947, when my Dad asked me to listen to the World Series and run out to the combine if anything happened. He was an “Anything But Yankee Fan” and so I became a Dodger Fan, and a Duke Snider fan. I read your blog almost daily and really appreciate being educated on so many facets of the game and business I had no idea of. Thanks to all of your writers, great job.
I won $900 on the Dodgers winning the WS, and every dollar went to Dodgers World Series gear for me and the family. OK mostly me. But other than one of my hats, everything else will be Christmas presents. I already know that my wife is adding to my jersey collection. I am getting a Mookie jersey. Thank you for the kind words Jeff. I appreciate it more than you know. And writing for this site has made me a little more tolerant and not the gruff Bear some think I am. I have many friends who tell me that underneath the gruff exterior that I am really an old softy. Well, at least my grandkids believe it. But what I really am is just a fan who loves the game and the team. I am not the most knowledgeable, but i love the history. I have come to respect all who post here even though we do not always agree. And I am glad that after a rough start some years ago on another blog that Mark and I buried the hatchet because we really went at each other for a while. I respect the man and his opinion more now because it is what we all should do. Respect each other. That being said, screw the government, screw the virus and lets get together and eat some bird! Some posters stand out with their knowledge, information and humor about so many facets of baseball. You are too numerous to mention all and I don’t want to skip anyone with an incomplete list. I became a Dodger fan watching Koufax and Drysdale on TV when I could. I’ve been a fan since. I was scouted by the Dodgers and did some camps, got Christmas cards and some attention. I was eventually drafted 3 times but sadly not by the Dodgers.
I will be 70 in January and still love baseball. I’m late to Arizona this fall having been detained to finish some dental work. But I will be back to The Valley of the Sun next week where I have a condo 1.5 miles from Camel Back Ranch. My dream is to buy my new Dodger World Champs cap there and to again walk around Camel Back and watch workouts and ST games in March. I have my fingers crossed.

Thanksgiving has always been our favorite holiday because of family. This year will be different as Andy, Jennifer (our daughter in law) and our granddaughter will be in Santa Clarita for Thanksgiving with Jen’s family. But we will be spending the day with our daughter, son in law, and 2 grandsons, and another family of five which we consider part of our extended family.
In these difficult days, it is easy to be negative, but there is so much to be thankful for. Like so many others before me, I am most thankful for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And I thank him every day when I wake up and can smile. I am thankful for my best friend and wife of 46 ½ years. I am thankful for my family and friends who put up with me. With the current divisive climate, I am thankful for being so fortunate to be living in this great country. I am VERY thankful for the Dodgers. Winning the Championship is the cherry on top. I am thankful for being able to finally wear World Champion Dodgers gear up here in enemy territory. While my Alma Mater (THE University of Southern California) has been fortunate for their first three games, I am thankful they are still undefeated.
I am thankful for Mark for allowing me to write for LADT for nearly four years now, and for allowing me to pilot the site for six months. He is one I like to pick on, but he is truly a friend. I am thankful for being able to collaborate with the other fine writers, Harold Uhlman (DC), Rob Schelling (2D2), Michael Norris (Bear), and Evan Bladh. I am thankful for the friendship I was able to make with Harold back in 2016 with the Great Lakes Championship run. I am thankful for Rob Schelling for all of his help during my run as the pilot at LADT. I look forward to when we can actually get together in person (it is in the works). I am very thankful to Bear who has penned so many great columns and allows me to skip a few. I have grown to think of Bear as a friend as well.
I am thankful for each and every contributor at LADT, and while I do not want to leave anyone out, there are a couple of contributors that I want to especially reach out with my THANKS. Dodgerrick has been someone that I have grown to really appreciate. Even though we have not always agreed, he has always been thoughtful and articulate without being mean-spirited (to anyone). I am thankful for Watford Dodger, and he knows why. I am thankful to Rudy (my favorite Bruin) who does not write here much anymore. We became friends over this site, and made plans to get together this month, but COVID put the stop to that. I hope that we will be able to meet next year in the Northern California wine country. I am thankful to another who does not write here anymore, Vegas Dodger, who gave me some sage advice very early with my writing. I am very very thankful to DodgerBlueMom whose words at the worst time in my life still resonate with me. DBM, I will always be thankful. Once this pandemic is behind us, I hope to be able to get with both DBM and Dodgerrick who are both in my neck of the woods.
I am also very thankful for all of the memories in my heart of those who have gone before us. Especially to my son Kris, and to a very special lady who wrote for many years with Mark, MJ. I know they are both in heaven after pulling our Dodgers across the finish line.

Long time reader, seldom poster. This is the best place to read about Dodgers baseball. I am from Illinois and been a Dodger fan since 1975. I played little league and high school baseball and then played highly competitive softball traveling all around the midwest for the next 35 years. I am thankful for my family, friends, job, health, wife and critters that keep me happy. Look forward to reading more in 2021 and maybe I’ll post more on here in the future.

I heard on the radio this morning that five things you should not serve on Thanksgiving day are: (Comments are theirs.)
1. Cranberry Sauce – (too much sugar)
2. Green Bean Casserole. (Lots of calories)
3. Dinner Rolls- (why needed?)
4. Ambrosia Salad – (according to some chef, salad should not come with Cool Whip)
5. Pecan pie – (500 calories a slice.)
Sorry, these are some of my favorite dishes, well maybe not the pie. So, will ignore the advice.
I noticed that a lot of followers on this site have a few years on their odometer, as do I at 76. Raised in Giants territory I put up with a lot while rooting for the Blue. Became a fan while they were in Brooklyn, but never got to see my idol, Roy Campanella, play because of his accident. Was able to listen to Vin and Jerry Dogett (sp) broadcast the games on KFI 690 clear channel even though I lived 300 miles North of LA. I often did my homework listening to the games.
Like the rest of you I have many reasons for giving thanks but the greatest by far is expressed by the Psalmist in Psalm 100 — A psalm. For giving thanks. 1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. 2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. 3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
One of my biggest accomplishments and one I haven’t taken for granted is making it to my age of 73. I don’t know what tomorrow brings but for now my family is happy and healthy.
I like to play with the Dodgers and it isn’t as much fun to keep it to myself when I could be sharing those thoughts here and yes, I do love the reaction I sometimes get. Clearly, I don’t take the Dodgers as seriously as others but they have been my team since my dad in the early 50’s would get me to stop a second and watch a few innings of baseball with him. He was a Dodger fan and as he tells it, Duke Snider hit enough home runs when I was watching that I became a fan.
It was awesome to be a Dodger fan in Southern California and have my team move from Brooklyn to my backyard. Before they moved I was a Pacific Coast League fan and watched Steve Bilco hit a lot of home runs. I was sad to see the changes to the PCL after the Dodgers and Giants moved west.

I agree with my brothers Northmsdodger and TruthHurts – I am most thankful for Jesus. After that, I am thankful that my wife is still alive after 11+ years and over a year of ICU time.
I saw my first Dodger game in the Coliseum in 1959 with my Dad, who was a transplanted Brooklynite who saw his 1st game at Ebbets in 1938 with his Dad and Uncle, so we have been Dodger fans in my family for 100 years. My first Dodger memories were of the 1965 Series victory over the Twins.
My Dad moved the family from SoCal, where he moved after being stationed in San Diego during the Korean War, to Sacramento in 1971, so I have lived up here since then. The internet has allowed me to follow my team in a way that was impossible before so that’s another thing I’m thankful for.

I have been reading this blog for several years and Mark’s post today convinced me to finally weigh in. I am 76 years old and both my parents grew up in Brooklyn which is why I became an obsessed Dodgers fan starting when I was old enough to know what baseball was (4 years old). I first saw them play in person for the 1st time at Ebbets field when I was 6. We lived in central New Jersey until I was 12 and during those years, I spent a week in Brooklyn every summer going to Ebbets everyday with my Grandfather. I came home from school on 10/3/51 in time to see the Dodgers take the lead 4-1 in the 8th inning against the Giants on a grainy black and white TV screen only to have my heart broken moments later when Thomson hit the HR. We moved to Florida when I was 12 and I have a picture of me that was taken at Vero Beach in the spring of 1956 but don’t know how to attach it to the post.
I have seen our team play in person in 12 different stadiums, been fortunate to be at 8 Dodgers World Series games including the night Bob Welch struck out Reggie Jackson in the 9th inning of game two of the ’78 series. I have seen it all over 70+ years so I do feel qualified to bring some perspective to what all of us as fans feel. When we load the bases with no outs and do not score, my frustration and pain level goes through the roof. On the other hand when we come from behind to win a game we had no business winning, my elation also goes through the roof. Isn’t this range of emotion why we are so ingrained in this wonderful game on such a personal level? I can’t tell you to stop these emotions. That would be impossible. What I can tell you is to understand that no matter what, there will be times of frustration and pain and times of elation. After all, it is baseball. Finally, I will say I have been unbelievably fortunate to root for a team that cares about winning and one that (except for a few times) has always put a great product on the field. Today, I am especially thankful for my wife of 53 years, our 2 sons and 3 grandchildren. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Although born in New York, my parents moved us out here when I was three. In 1954 I went back to Brooklyn to visit my uncle and was introduced to the Dodgers (doubleheader, we won both games). I was hooked, and then overjoyed when my favorite team moved to L.A. in 1958.
Enjoy your day everyone. Don’t over eat. I assume the main course on everyone’s table will be Dodger Dogs.
Them Braves sure gave it a scare to us and put a lot of smoke signals in the air. But when it cleared it was Dodgers standing. That is no small thing.

I’ve been a Dodger fan since they moved to LA. I have lots of great memories throughout the years of following the Dodgers. I really appreciate Mark for setting up this forum to discuss our favorite team. And to all the writers who graciously contribute their time and knowledge to this site, you guys are incredible. All of you are better than most of the “professional” journalists out there. It’s just goes to show how quality writing is possible when you’re not trying to get clicks. The many Dodger fans who contribute comments to this site are some of the most knowledgeable baseball fans out there. It’s nice to have LADT available each day to help get away from the virus concerns, politics, and discourse we currently face. I’m thankful to all my longtime friends that have been there for me and have provided many incredible memories. I’m, also, thankful for good health. Soon to be 72 on Dec 7 (which I can’t believe) I am thankful to have avoided Covid so far and hope to make it unscathed until the vaccine becomes available. I have lived in Santa Clarita, CA (near Magic Mtn) for the past 45 years.

Have not posted in awhile but your request for what we are thankful for is a good one. I have been a Dodger fan for 66 years and am thankful just to have something to always look forward to- games, box scores, trade rumors! I am truly blessed with a “best friend” wife, a great family that are all healthy, and to live in one of the few sane places in the country- IOWA. Mark you do a wonderful job on the site and I thank you for that, as well as all of the other special people that post their interesting updates. Have a truly great Thanksgiving and please keep the info. coming!
I’ve been a Dodger fan since I watched my first World Series in 1955. As even my wife would tell you, the Dodgers are my first love, and Roy Campanella my first hero. As an East coaster, it is sometimes difficult to watch games, but I’ve been to hundreds of live Dodger games all over the country. 2020 has been a tough year for all of us, but the championship after all these years has been the bright spot.

To Mark and all of the LADT writers and commenters: Thank you! You have given me something to look forward to every day through this crazy year. I am a multigenerational Dodgers fan. My father was born in Brooklyn, and moved with his parents to LA, and then the Dodgers followed.
I am 64 years old, married, and living 16 years in the Netherlands (Maastricht). I have a 21 year old daughter who goes to college in the states, an 18 year old son in his last year of high school, and a 3 year old daughter (this is my second marriage). My oldest daughter flew back to the Netherlands a couple of days ago, and last night I had the pleasure of having all of my kids together, having a pre-Thanksgiving dinner with social distance. What I am most grateful for is family. A day doesn’t pass when I don’t remind myself of how lucky I am. I truly resonnated to Jeff’s post the other day. Whatever my imperfections, I guess what I have put into my kids that is positive is coming back to me. Seeing them all together, just hanging out with them and my wife, meant the world to me. Just being thankful seems to be the key to so much in life. Whatever your readers are going through, good, bad, or whatever, I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving! It’s nice to share this brotherhood/sisterhood of the Dodgers with you.
Long time reader and seldom poster, but I am just thankful for a different perspective on one of my favorite things in life “Dodger Baseball”. Even though I am only 41, I love reading the articles about all the past, present, and future of the boys in blue. LADT is a daily site I read, and hope to pass this on for generations to come as my 2 boys play ball now. I am thankful for my friend, family, business, LADT, and above all God. I live in New Albany,Ms. We have a population of 9,000. We are a hour drive from Memphis,TN.
First ,I am thankful God sent his son to die on a cross for me and all of you.I am so thankful God has allowed me to live 58 years and have a beautiful,loving wife and a 22 year old beautiful sweet daughter and a Godly ,beautiful 19 year old daughter.I was raised by the most wonderful parents and a sweet loving sister.I still have my best friends I grew up with.All of my family live in the same area.My family and living in the USA is what i am thankful for.I have been a fan since LA played Oakland in the World Series in 1973. I found this great site 4 years ago,I read it daily.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I am thankful that in spite of my age (78 next month) I have no health worries. The only medicine I take is Metformin for my Type 2 Diabetes. I am very stubborn and refuse to get sick because it’s to inconvenient and too damn expensive!!
I’m a 77 year- old Marine (Once a Marine always a Marine) that has been a Dodger fan since 1951. I was raised in Jupiter, FL, and attended Dodger spring training @ Dodgertown. I now reside in South Carolina, hence the tag SCDodgerFan. I rarely post, but read daily. Thankful for family, friends, and health.
I ve been a reader of this web site for many years. I grew up in Brooklyn went to ebbets field with my father and saw jackie Robinson . I listened to the Dodgers win the world series in 1955 on my radio. I live now in Palm Springs Ca. Iam a old guy who still works selling cars.
Great post Mark. I am thankful that Mark and Jeff have allowed me to write for this site. I am thankful I live in a place where in this crazy year where nothing is normal, we have some sense of freedom. I am thankful that all of my family are healthy and have not had to deal with Covid. I am most thankful for my friends, who through the hard times have always been there for me. Without them, some things would be very hard to handle. And finally, I am thankful that I am a part of the Dodger family and this blog in particular.
