Interview with Paul Beachy – Team Bus Driver For The Great Lakes Loons (LA Dodgers Minor League Team)

It’s been a few days since I did this interview. We have evidently been working my son-in-law (the video guy) like a rented mule at US Water Systems. However, I am taking him to London with me in a few days, so maybe Watford will buy him a pint as a tip, but he’s a dang Red Sox fan, so there is that! I thought that it would be interesting…

I thought that it would be interesting to get the viewpoint of the Great Lakes Loons Bus Driver, and Paul Beachy gave us an excellent interview. Enjoy the info and … maybe… read between the lines.

All-Star Game

I know that a lot of old-timers don’t appreciate the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby because… well, they just don’t. It’s their prerogative! The game counts for nothing, but I get a kick out of it. Times change. Some people can’t and that’s OK… I just don’t have to agree with them, but I am not condemning them. Many fans hate certain announcers. Fine… I just don’t let anyone control me. I can tolerate them all… maybe even enjoy them while still maintaining that Vin Scully was the greatest ever. I loved J-Wrob’s inning! I am not going to dwell on it, however. I have never had a bad day in thirty-two years. I never let anyone steal my joy.

D-Backs placed Tommy Troy on the IL. No pitchers announced yet for the Yankees series.

So I’m getting the impression that some folks who frowned on the idea Skubal are getting more and more intrigued…

If the Dodgers make a move at the deadline my guess would be a veteran backup catcher.it appears that Smith will be out the rest of this month we rehab games at the earliest. It would be great to give Rushing someone to mentor him. I’m thinking of a trade like the Dodgers made when they pick up Rick Dempsey from Thor orioles back in the day. That is my prediction without having read anything that this will happen so it is more than likely an idea that will go into file 13.

When has Jim Bowden ever got anything correct? What’s the name of our crazy trade poster here at LADT? Eric? He’s more reliable

  5. Bear1d ago

Houston did not get much back in the trade, outfielder Jadyn Firlder and 2.5 million in cash.

  6. Mark Timmons1d ago

    Jim Bowden:

“The Los Angeles Dodgers acquire Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for pitchers Emmett Sheehan and River Ryan and outfielder Zyhir Hope.”

Good prospect list on ESPN. I think they named the right 11 guys.

  8. Bear2d ago

Charlie Barnes has chosen free agency over going back to AAA OKC.

Houston traded RHSP Lance McCullers and LHP Colton Gordon to Milwaukee. Houston will be sending some cash in the deal. No word on what was going back to Houston. It is believed that this was a depth move for Milwaukee and a salary dump for Houston. McCullers is on the IL but reportedly has looked good in rehab games.

I remember Steve Bilko at the end of his career with the Angels at Dodger Stadium. He was buffalo big but could he hit. I also have a memory of a tall left handed pitcher for Cleveland that threw hard. My grandfather, a former pitcher and catcher in the South said “this kid is going to be good”. Sam McDowell. I believe he was still a teenager when I saw him.

Mark I had trouble with that video. Kept buffering. Might be my iPad. Paul looks 6’8” sitting next to you. He’s either sitting on some pillows or you’re slouching. As every guy’s mother used to say – “Sit up straight young man!” From what I did hear – great interview. Mr Beachy seems like a nice guy.

I was thinking about the Skubal offer someone posted earlier. I think it was Sheehan, Tibbs, Freeland & Ferris. What if DET said give us Ehrhard and it’s a deal?

  12. Bear2d ago

I was mistaken on who hit the homer in the game I went to, it was not Vic Wertz, it was another first baseman, Norm Cash, Charlie Maxwell and Al Kaline also homered in a 9-1 Tigers win.

I’m 68 years old and I watched the all star game! The on field product? Nothing to write home about, but there were some good moments. The pitching far outshone the hitting. Wrobleski had a wonderful inning! And even though he gave up a moonshot to Vargas(good for him!), he looked fantastic, like he belonged. I enjoyed listening to Cease call his pitches. I enjoyed Freddie’s at bat too. The guy is as tough an out as anybody we’ve ever seen! The video of Ray Charles was very nice. Overall it was a good night. As far as the announcers, Davis and Smoltz were fine. Verducci and Rosenthal can make me throw up in my mouth! But I don’t hate either one. I try hard not to hate anyone who does broadcasting. Some I don’t like to listen to. Some I really enjoy. I’m entitled to my own preferences just as everyone else is. VIN was the best ever, I think most would agree with that statement. I don’t mind Joe Buck. Bear doesn’t like listening to him and that’s ok. Most of us don’t like listening to Jess, but that doesn’t mean we hate her. Can’t stand listening to Arod on pregame shows. A super talented guy who lied and cheated and now reaps benefits he should not. Just my opinion. The game is still in a good place. I’m in the opinion that there will not be a lockout. Both sides realize what that will do to our great game. It will be ok. So the all star game wasn’t one for the ages, so what! The pitchers were still pitching like it mattered. The defense was good. The hitters weren’t giving AB’s away, give the pitchers credit. It sure as hell wasn’t like the NBA all star game! Or the pro bowl (does it still exist?). So yeah I watched. The outcome wasn’t what I wanted. Pages, Max, and Freddie didn’t homer. Justin W. Looked great. But overall it was ok.

So now it’s back to our pathetic, boring, listless, aging, no caring Dodgers! I’m exaggerating of course. My dear sweet mother used to say, if I didn’t love you, I wouldn’t worry. I guess the same goes for our dodgers. If we didn’t love them, we wouldn’t worry!

So it’s 2 1/2 men reruns and everybody loves Raymond reruns for a couple of days! And Mark, once again I thank you for this site. You have given a bunch of of old farts a chance to talk baseball and enjoy each other’s opinions and stories. It helps me make it through the day and not worry so much about any problems I may or may not have. So even though we don’t agree on everything, that’s ok. We respect each other and the people who represent us could learn a thing or two from us!

Dodgers Food Trailer

I did this interview a couple of weeks ago with Chef Mike, who runs the Dodgers Food Trailer for the Great Lakes Loons. They are there for every home and road regular season and playoff game. They prepare three meals a day for approximately 50 people (players and coaches). Since games end late most evenings, they do not prepare breakfast. Many of their hotels have a complimentary breakfast anyway. However,…

Meet LAD 2026 Draft Picks 1-12

3 picks were High School players (2 SS and 1 OF). There was a college OF, college catcher, college SS, and 10 college pitchers. Of all the talk for a need for a catcher, the only catcher the Dodgers selected was Luke Bard, son of LAD bullpen coach Josh Bard. Bard was a 4th year senior from Houston Christian University. He is not a prospect, so the Dodgers are still…

Thanks for Your Service: Chris Taylor

I was going to do this post when Chris announced he was retiring, then he changed his mind, but since the chances of him ever playing for the Dodgers again are slim and non-existent, I will go ahead with this post. He unretired, went on the IL, then decided to call it quits on May 24th. Taylor was born in Virginia Beach VA on August 29th, 1990. He attended Great…

Cruise Control

The Dodgers are not exactly storming toward the finish line right now. They are sleepwalking. They have built an 11-game lead, turned the division race into a cakewalk, and seem to be playing with the urgency of a team waiting for October to arrive. The edge is missing. The intensity comes and goes. At times, they look less like a hungry championship club and more like a veteran team trying…
