At the trade deadline, all of the sports media proclaimed that the Padres had “Won the Trade Deadline.” After all, they got O’Hean, Lauerano, Sears, and (OMG) Mason Miller, who throws 150 MPH as a closer. The Dodgers and every other MLB team were warned that the Padres were the best of the best.
Yeah, Right!
Many of the less astute Dodger fans bought into this, too, and they wondered why Andrew Friedman didn’t overhaul the Dodgers’ Farm System and acquire these players. See, the game of baseball is not played on paper. It is played on a diamond… in a stadium… by real players. AJ Preller gutted the Padres’ farm system so that they could get a Wild Card spot and go home. He will likely be looking for another job soon.
All I will say is “I told you so!”
The Padres are sitting at home watching the playoffs with the worst farm system in baseball, while the Dodgers are headed to the NLDS with one of the best farm systems in baseball. The same fans who criticized Andrew Friedman for not following the Padres’ lead are now watching the Dodgers advance. The Dodgers’ farm system is intact, and their future is bright as a result.
AJ Preller has seldom done the right thing, but he will get another job. The Dodgers could use a person who can pick up laundry, jockstraps, towels, and uniforms – Preller is well qualified for that.

Machado is an excellent player during the regular season. He is a dud in the postseason. He has a .209 BA in 14 post season series. A couple of those with the Orioles were actually just 1 game. His best games have come in the NLCS which he has appeared in twice. His best was with LA in 18, he hit .296, with a homer and 3 driven in. He followed that up with a 4-22 performance in the 18 World Series, striking out for the last out of the Series. All of his hits were singles. The rest of his series he is just above .200 or below. Overall, he has hit 12 postseason homers and driven in 29. He has struck out 57 times and walked 13. Most of his homers have been solo shots. I respect his skills, but he has a worse post season record than Bellinger, who has hit .213, and won a NLCS MVP with a .200 BA in 18 when Machado was his teammate.
machado? tatis? nuff said. i didn’t mind the friars when Tony Gwynn played there. he was one of the best hitters in my lifetime. He was a good guy period! the 2 clowns there now? class minus the c and the L!! now the padres did get a bad call on that strike 3 pitch. i feel bad for them! yeah right! … hopefully Will Smith is 100% healthy for this series! need him against the lefties. Their big failure in this series is I think is as before. When it came to coming thru Tatis, Arreaz, Machado all disappeared.
That’s their ‘big three’. So the acquisitions might have helped, but the ‘core’ failed

My Dad grew up in San Diego and loved it. His grandfather took him to a good many Padres games when they were in the PCL. So I had a soft spot for them for many years. But let’s face it, they are the antithesis of the Dodgers. Their most redeeming feature being that they make a great villain for the good guys in blue.

While the Dodgers set a new MLB attendance record, with over 4 million total attendance and an average of 49, 536 per game, the team from San Diego finished second with more than 3.4 million, besting the Yankees, Phils, Mets and Cubs.
Go figure, right? The mighty Yankees and megabuck Mets, catering to the nation’s largest market, got beat by the Friars, representing a city than Dave Winfield once likened to “a cul-de-sac.”
If owned the Padres, I’d be pretty happy with the job AJ Preller is doing.
But hey, maybe the Book of Moron is right about this prophecy!

I love The city of San Diego. I love what they bring to the national League West. But when they went to the ice cream vendor uniforms, that’s when I drew the line. Those uniforms belong in the minor leagues with the Savannah bananas.
Machado had a nice heartfelt interview last night after the game. Has to be tough for a competitor like him to lose in the way that they did. I wish them well as long as they’re not playing the Dodgers.
With the teams that are left, it’s going to be a real war to the World Series.
I don’t know if I agree or not with people talking badly about San Diego, I love that team!!
I hope the Madres keep him. Selling the farm year after year will guarantee they stay competitive without actually ever being contenders.

Obviously a fan base wants a World Series title, but as we’ve discussed that’s overly impacted by luck.
Preller goes for it every year, and reloads every year, why would San Diego move on from him? Or want to?
