Ontario Tower Buzzers are 1st LAD affiliate to end their season

OKC Comets 8 – Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston) 0
RHSP Landon Knack and 4 relievers shut out the Space Cowboys, giving OKC their 12th consecutive win. They are now 3.0 games better than Sugar Land with 9 games to play.
The Comets recorded their 12th shutout victory of the season and first since Aug. 26 vs. El Paso in the second game of a doubleheader…OKC’s 12 shutouts in 2026 are the most by the team in a single season since matching the total in 2016 and the most by any Pacific Coast League team since Round Rock also recorded 12 during the 2019 season.
· Landon Knack – 5.0 IP, 2 hits, 2 BB, 4 K
· Garrett McDaniels – 1.0 IP, 1 hit, 1 BB, 0 K

Díaz and Bubic pitched in back-to-back games.
Maybe the results were not dominant, but the Space Cowboys have their backs against the wall and are fighting for their playoff lives. Sugar Land was 4.0 games ahead of OKC when the consecutive win streak began.
OKC put up 3 in the 1st inning. RF Zach Ehrhard led off with a BB. LF James Tibbs III hit a RBI double (31) to score Ehrhard. DH Ryan Ward followed with a 2-run HR (18).

Tulsa Drillers 3 – NW Arkansas Naturals (KC) 2
Tulsa scored the first run in the 2nd inning. 2B Sean McLain singled with one out and promptly stole 2nd. LF Taylor Young hit a RBI single giving the Drillers a 1-0 lead.

LHSP Myles Caba pitched the first 4.0 innings. But he gave up a solo HR leading off the 4th inning to tie the score. He allowed one other hit, did not walk a batter, and struck out 5.
In the 5th, Young opened the inning with a single. Young was forced at 2nd by CF Kole Myers. 3B Jake Gelof hit his 33rd HR for a 3-1 lead. I do not anyone to forget that Gelof is still just 24. He is not a future All Star, but I do think he is a capable 2B/3B and deserves a chance to play MLB. He will never hit .300, but he does have an OBP of .378, a SLG of .559, and an OPS of .937. I always like to reserve judgement on prospects until they reach AA. If prospects can succeed at AA, they are considered MLB ready or at least near MLB ready. Gelof was not on my radar at the beginning of the season, but he is at the end.

In the 7th, RHRP Lucas Wepf hit a batter with one out. The runner stole 2nd and scored on a double. Wepf walked 2 to load the bases and RHRP Cam Day was summoned to get the final out.
Tulsa had some good relief pitching from RHRP Payton Martin (2.0 scoreless innings), Day (1.1 scoreless innings) and RHRP Carson Hobbs (1.0 scoreless inning). Hobbs also recorded his 5th save.
· Taylor Young – 2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI
· Jake Gelof – 2-3, 1 BB, 1 run, 2 RBI, HR (33)
Dayton Dragons (Reds) 3 – Great Lakes Loons 1
The Loons were one win away from advancing in the Midwest League playoffs and had RHSP Brooks Auger on the mound. Auger struck out the first batter he faced, but strike three was a WP and the batter reached. The runner stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a single. The runner scored on a forceout for a 1-0 lead.
The Loons had two hits in the 1st inning from SS Emil Morales and LF Charles Davalan, but a DP ended the inning. RF Jaron Elkins led off the 2nd with a single but he too was erased on a GIDP.
Two Loons walked in the third with one out but were left stranded. The Loons had their opportunities, early.
In the 4th, Auger gave up a pair of singles, retired the next two batters, but the next batter tripled to score 2.
GL scored in the 7th. With 2 outs DH Victor Rodrigues doubled and scored on C Gio Cueto’s single.

The Loons went out meekly in the last two innings.
RHP Will Gagnon followed Auger and completed 4.0 scoreless innings. He allowed 1 hit, 1 BB, with 5 K.
Lake Elsinore Storm (San Diego) 6 – Ontario Tower Buzzers 1
Ontario needed to win this game to continue in the playoffs. Unfortunately, they did not prevail, and they have been ousted in the California League Southern Division playoffs. There is no reason to dwell on this game. In the coming weeks, I will review the body of work for each of the affiliates. Ontario is the first LAD affiliate that has been sent packing.

UPDATE FROM DAY AIR BALLPARK - Mark Timmons
Well, as Jeff intimated... the game was not fun... but the experience was awesome!
My son-in-law (a film school graduate of the California Academy of Arts) was my cameraman and lackey! He's a good dude... but don't tell him that! There was a half-hour rain delay... that took me back to my childhood at Crosley Field... many times! The series is tied 1-1, with the deciding game tonight. I have a Press Pass again for tonight, but it's 50-50 if I go. It's a 4-hour drive... total. Last night was a big "nothingburger!"
Day Air Park is beautiful. It is owned by the City of Dayton, but Diamond Baseball Holdings (DBH) acquired the team in 2025. In June 2026, the naming-rights agreement was extended through 2040. So Day Air Credit Union does not own the stadium, and the Dayton Dragons/DBH do not own the real estate. The City of Dayton owns the ballpark and leases it for the Dragons’ use.
The ballpark opened in 2000 at a construction cost of roughly $23 million to $23.5 million. As of September 2026, Diamond Baseball Holdings controls 49 professional baseball teams if you count its newest acquisition, the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League. As of September 2026, Diamond Baseball Holdings controls 49 professional baseball teams if you count its newest acquisition, the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League.
I can do a blog on this in the future if you want... For somebody looking at the business side of baseball, DBH may be one of the most consequential developments in Minor League Baseball in decades. Forty percent of affiliated baseball sitting under one corporate umbrella is remarkable.
Anyway, I hope we have better news to report after tomorrow's game, and maybe my son-in-law will have finished the video he shot. Day Air Field is the best overall Minor League Ballpark I have ever seen! It is 26 years old and looks brand-spanking new. The Pressbox was especially impressive as we received Press Passes. That takes me back to the days when I became the first blogger to sit in the press box at Dodger Stadium.

Big day today as JDP finally arrives to the major leagues! Hopefully he has a huge impact on the team! Snell day! My pick to click today? Kyle Tucker! Going deep! Love to all the people who lost loved ones on 9/11. Thanks and sincere appreciation to all the first responders who sacrificed their lives to save others that day. Their bravery and dedication to help their fellow human beings that day is truly remarkable. May we remember them all forever and never forget. As they ran into the rubble to save others, never thinking about themselves, only to help their fellow man. Through it all, we came back stronger and together! The spirit of those who died that day should remind us all that we all are one people! God bless us all!
Sorry, the site was down... We have exceeded 120,000 views this month. I just increased the plan... but it seems like if you build it, they will come!
Blake Snell. Can he be considered a great pitcher if he can only go 6 innings? I say no.
You know how it seems that the Dodgers always trade away the right prospects? Keith Law reports today in The Athletic that Thayron Liranzo's conditioning has improved but that he's hitting .199/.315/.433 repeating Double A and that Zyhir Hope looks really out of shape. It sounds like the Dodgers have traded a couple of guys who don't want to work as hard as they need to.
Working on a new post that should be finished this afternoon. My grandson is coming to stay with me for a while and help out some. He will be here next week. Ram game was a disappointment. Lost a half game to the Braves after their win yesterday. They are now 3.5 back.
I'll discuss this more at a later date, but I think that the first 4 Loon hitters are all legitimate MLB Players:
1. Quintero 2. Morales 3. Davalan 4. Perez ... likely in that order. I do not see Morales sticking at SS.
Both Quintero and Morales have "special" written all over them. Davalan and Perez are role players... but I like them both, and all 4 play with passion.
When DePaula is added to the 40-man roster for tonight's game, who will be either DFA or transferred to the 60 Day IL to make a spot for him? Rushing is a likely candidate with his recent injury to be transferred to the 60-day IL or they can DFA RP Kopp. My choice would be to DFA Kopp who has had a poor year at AAA Oklahoma City. With Ohtani going on the 15 DAY IL, DePaula slides into that open spot on the current 28-man active roster.
Ooh--ooh that Snell
Nice win. # 90 on the year. Braves are losing 3-2 in the bottom of the 8th to the Phillies. Padres and D-Backs duking it out for second place these next two weeks. Winner gets a trip to the playoffs.
Well TM, I think Tucker has found the switch!
Did I call Kyle Tucker or what?
Ok kids, is Tucker waking up? These swings the last few days have been nice!
when I moved to California, we went to a lot of art parties. Those kids know how to park. They also have a wonderful and deservedly well regarded school.
Bear. You called it. Buxton season ending hip surgery. A guy I really wanted Dodgers to trade for last off season.
09/11/26 Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of RF Josue De Paula from Tulsa Drillers. 09/11/26 Los Angeles Dodgers placed TWP Shohei Ohtani on the 15-day injured list retroactive to September 8, 2026. Right biceps inflammation. 09/11/26 Los Angeles Dodgers transferred LHP Eric Lauer from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. Left elbow inflammation.

Saw an artist's concept drawing of the A's new park in Las Vegas, it was pretty cool looking, but the conception drawing of the proposed new field for the Royals in KC was something out of this world.
Couple of major publications take on JDP and his pending debut:
Mark, what a nice ballpark in Dayton. And that’s a high A park? Boy has minor league baseball come a long ways. I played A-ball in a converted football field. One night there was a big warehouse fire near the park so all of the about 500 fans in the stands were on the top rows, with their backs to our field, as they watched the fire. That was a lot more interesting than our game. So when we looked at the crowd all we saw were rows of butts on the top rail. We had an assistant coach who tripled as a trainer and bus driver. The Skipper was a soccer guy and that was it for coaches aside from some roving instructors in the organization. We made $500 a month, $2.50 a day in meal money (with no food in the clubhouse. Had there been the roaches would have eaten it) and out of that money we had to tip the clubby. How things have changed for the better.

Diaz pitched in his 2nd consecutive game yesterday. Per Dodgers.com, "Díaz averaged 96.1 mph on the nine fastballs he threw and topped out at 97.9 mph. "
Is that better than before this last IL stint, or is he still lacking is previous velocity?
I met Trent Rosencrans of The Athletic, and as I sat in the Pressbox with the entire group, I remembered how much I hated it. They are just not people I want to be around. I only stayed in the Pressbox for a couple of innings, but felt like I needed a shower after I left.
Update above by me.
