Just when you thought he might not have anything this year, LHSP Jackson Ferris pitched his best game of the season. Jackson finished 6.0 complete IP. He allowed 1 run, on 2 hits (both singles in the 6th), and 2 BB, with 8 K.
Ferris had not allowed a hit through 5.1 IP. With one out in the 6th, he gave up 2 singles. Both runners pulled off a double steal, and the lead runner then scored on a SF.
OKC put up 3 in the 4th. CF Zach Ehrhard led off the inning with a HR (13). With one out, LF Jack Suwinski also hit a HR (18). 2B Ryan Fitzgerald followed with a single and scored on C Eliézer Alfonzo’s double (15).
RHRP Nick Robertson relieved Ferris in the 7th. He retired the side in order, striking out the last two batters he faced. RHRP Evan Phillips pitched the 8th and also retired the side in order with 2 K.
RHRP Wayne Mills entered in the 9th with a 2-run lead a save opportunity. Mills hit the first two batters he faced. The next batter reached on a fielder’s choice when Mills had a throwing error, and the first runner scored. Mills walked the next batter and LHRP Ronan Kopp relieved Mills while inheriting the bases loaded. The first batter he faced hit a SF to tie the game. Kopp struck out the next batter and got the next to ground out to end the inning.
The Comets came up in the 9th needing a run. Alfonzo led off with a single. Austin Gauthier came in to run for Alfonzo. The next two batters struck out. 3B Noah Miller singled, sending Gauthier to 3rd. DH Ryan Ward followed with a run scoring single for the walkoff win.

In the 1st inning, SS Elijah Hainline drew a BB, stole 2nd and scored on a single by LF Zyhir Hope.
RHSP Payton Martin had a small set back in this one. Martin is not a dominating pitcher, so he is going to have games like today. He allowed 3 runs from the 1st 5 batters. A double, ground out, BB, SF, and 2-run HR.
In the 3rd, 2B Sean McLain doubled (5) and scored on Hainline’s single.
Martin gave up a HR in the bottom of the 3rd.
Tulsa took the lead in the 6th. CF Mike Sirota led off with a single. He went to 2B on a WP and to 3rd on a sac bunt. Hope reached on a ground ball to SS when Sirota beat the throw to the plate. Hope stole 2B. 3B Jake Gelof drew a BB. This was Gelof’s 41st consecutive game of reaching base safely. 1B Chris Newell singled to load the bases. RF Kole Myers walked to bring home Hope. C Frank Rodriguez singled to score Gelof.
In the bottom of the 6th, Martin gave up a leadoff double and was replaced by LHRP Christian Suarez. Suarez gave up a 2-out RBI single to tie the game.
In the 7th, Sirota was HBP and moved to 3rd on Hainline double (12). Hope slugged a 3-run HR for an 8-5 lead.
Tulsa picked up another pair in the 8th. McLain and DH Josue De Paula both singled. Sirota drew a BB to load the bases. Hope hit a SF to score McLain, and JDP scored on an errant pickoff throw.

LHSP Sterling Patick took the mound. In the 2nd frame, he gave up 4 singles, but one of those hits was erased by a CS. The runner with the second single was moved to 2nd on a WP and scored on a third single. That batter tried to make second on the throw home, but he was thrown out at 2B. Patick allowed a 4th single in the inning, but just 1 run.
In the 4th, the Loons took a short lived lead. 3B Chase Harlan hit a one out single and scored on RF Jose Meza double (8). Meza scored on DH Eduardo Guerrero’s single for a 2-1 lead.
The TinCaps took back the lead in the bottom of the 4th. Patick hit the first batter of the inning. The runner moved to 2nd on a disengagement violation, to 3rd on a balk, and scored on a game tying single. LHRP Matt Lanzendorfer relieved Patick with the inherited runner. Lanzendorfer retired the 1st batter he faced. But a single, a two out WP and 2-run single gave the TinCaps the lead.
Guerrero homered (3) in the 6th inning.
LHRP Jacob Frost relieved Lanzendorfer in the bottom of the 6th inning. Frost gave up a solo HR in the bottom of the 6th inning.
In the 7th, Frost gave up a solo HR. He then hit the next batter and moved to 3rd on a double. Both runners scored on a 2 out single.
In the 8th, 1B Jose D. Hernandez led off the inning with a single. CF Eduardo Quintero was HBP. With one out, SS Emil Morales doubled to bring home both runners. The Loons would not get any additional runs.

There is no easy way to sugar coat it. The pitching in this game was horrid all the way around. Fresno scored 10 runs on 13 hits and 8 BB, including 3 HR.

The Reds jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 4 ½ innings. In the bottom of the 5th, 1B Jose Gonzalez singled and moved to 2nd on a WP. Yojackson Laya pinch ran for Gonzalez and scored on a DH Nelson Quiroz single. SS Sam Mongelli hit a 2-run HR to get close.
The Reds picked up a couple more runs in the 6th.
In the 7th, Laya led off with a HBP. 2B Reyli Mariano drew a BB. Quiroz singled to load the bases. Mongelli and 3B/1B Moises Bolivar were HBP to bring home two. The bases remained loaded with nobody out. LF Augustin Acosta double (5) home Quiroz and Mongelli to get the walk off win.

K.George back at AA. Sirota with a night off. I know Sirota got hit in the wrist by a pitch the other night. Hopefully just a rest night on a deep team.
Isn’t it great going into the trade deadline without a real need. Sure we could use another reliever but it would be more of a luxury than a need. We could use an a depth move for a catcher but If Smith is truly coming back after the all star game again that would be a luxury. I know that I defer from a lot of you but I don’t see the need for a starting pitcher unless one falls in our lap. It’s not always a bad thing to go out and get beat up now and then. It’s good to see how one responds. That takes time and opportunity. Because if a 14 game margin we have time and should give some of the young pitchers a chance to turn it around. With our farm system we are built to be good for some time. I disagree with comments I saw earlier about not being able to sustain this level for a long time. If the owners don’t do something crazy in the upcoming negotiations and our front office remains in tact I hope we maintain a very competitive team for the rest of my days.

His last (and only) HR allowed was on April 20. He has inherited 2 runners, and neither scored. He is also getting more late inning (set up) roles of late, and still excelling. He seems to have switched roles with Will Klein.

Which team has the better outfield, Dodgers, Comets or Drillers. I’d feel comfortable with any of those teams starting outfielders 1-4 or 5.
What a great game. I really love the patience and confidence of this team can show.
They just know there’s a lot of game left when they get down early and go about their business. Make plays, stay in the game and try find a way to run up King’s pitch count or touch him up enough to get him out of the game.
King was owning us through 5, looked a little fatigued in the 6th and thankfully Stammen chose to lift him after Mookie’s walk and Muncy’s single, at 75 pitches, in the 7th.
Time to sprint to the bat rack, boys. we’ve accomplished the mission.
And thanks to Jake Cronenworth, we got the break we needed when that double-play wasn’t turned.

Hurt induced a big double-play and Henriques looked like the potential closer I saw in him when I first saw him and Scott made it a little interesting getting behind Taylor before striking out the side.
Scott looks like the anti-Sasaki. Sasaki looks like Bear described. a deer in the headlights, while Scott looks like Dirty Harry.
I avoided Joe and Jess and listened to the Dodger broadcast on Sirius radio, in real time. I was surprised how much better I think Steven Nelson is on the radio paired with Rick Monday. Nelson has an esoteric sense of humor with Orel and Karros, which doesn’t play well for me. Not so much with Monday. It was a good listen which I will do again. I’m not a Karros fan and Jess is Jess.
So Ohtani had biceps pain that led to Miggy pinch hitting for him?
Teams aren’t exactly jumping at the opportunity to make a trade with the Dodgers. ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan went as far as to say that opposing general managers are “terrified” to make a deal with Friedman and the Dodgers with the deadline approaching.
“I think if you give them sodium pentothal, they would say that they’re terrified of making a trade with him,” Passan said on 97.1 The Fan. “Because he wins most of them and he’s done really well. I think more than anything, they are wary that the Dodgers are very, very good at keeping the guys who turn out to be solid and getting rid of the guys who don’t.

Michael King made the Dodgers high octane offense look pedestrian for five innings last night. He looked to tire in the sixth. No excuses, no win for the friars! Teo did not miss that first pitch! He looked like he was playing for the 2017 aaaaasssstros, like he knew what was coming! Announcers use the term “ Ambush “ ( which I hate!). But an error opened the door, and the Dodgers took advantage of it. Great win!
Henriquez looks pretty darn good lately! Consistency is the key for him.
Tanner Scott has outstanding numbers! My only concern is he seems to have too many 3 ball counts in his appearances. He isn’t walking anybody, but he does make it interesting at times.
While King was brilliant for 5-6 innings, Ohtani seemed to struggle from the beginning. The strikeouts are plenty, but the pitch count and command are not great. Nevertheless, it’s considered a quality start. I wonder how much doing both pitching and hitting is going to wear on him? Looked exhausted by the end of his night.
One Padre I wouldn’t mind having on the Dodgers? Gavin Sheets. He seems to thrive against the Dodgers. I know, first base is occupied, but Sheets is a very nice player. Trade him to Cleveland !
If the Dodgers win tonight,(Sasaki can’t pitch again!) The padres will be in dire straits regarding the division, NO CHANCE! With the the teams in the central and the east having a lot of good teams, the padres are going to be fortunate to make a wildcard. Boy was I wrong about the no west! More crow for me!

In the prologue of the excellent movie “Midway”, the Intel Capt asked the Admiral, “Admiral, Were we better than the Japs, or just lucky?”. Relating it to last night’s incredible win, the answer would be both. The flubbed DP grounder by Cronninworth was luck and cashing in on it with Teo’s Granny was be because this team is better than an other team in baseball.
You can’t get better than that. Game finished at 12:30 here in the East Coast on the 4th of July. What a great 250th birthday gift for Dodger fans.
