Winners and Losers

October 1, 2019

As we are getting ready to see who the Dodgers first opponent will be in the post season, it is extremely difficult for me to consume any negativity ascribed to the Dodgers after this season. No conditional statements…they were great. The best team in LA Dodgers history. I say LA Dodgers because the 1953 team that 105, did so with 8 less games. I still read from some how bad…

NL West First Look – AZ DBacks

March 3, 2019

Pundits can spin it anyway they want, but the DBacks suffered huge losses this offseason. Patrick Corbin signed a big 6 year $140MM contract with the Nationals, AJ Pollock signed a 5 year $60MM contract with LAD, and all-world 1B Paul Goldschmidt was traded to the Cards. So three teams that figured to be in contention anyway picked up the DBacks top 3 players. How does a team that won…

2018 MLB Winter Meetings

December 10, 2018

Okay, I am done arguing with people on this or any other baseball site about corporate finance, which happens to be a subject I am very well-versed in. But that is different than knowledge of the Dodgers balance sheet of which I have none. So, let’s move on.   I am writing this in an El Dorado Hills Starbucks at about 1:30 PM. So this may not be current by…

And the Magic Number is 5

September 25, 2018

The Magic Number is down to 5.  The Rockies do not look like they are going away, so the Dodgers are going to need to win this race.  I am more than fine with that.  On a night that showcased another of those all RHH lineups against a very good LHSP, the players came through when they needed to.  The team scored 7 runs with only one solo HR, so…

Did The Dodgers Turn The Page??

May 10, 2018

It was actually an encouraging game for the Dodgers as a team. CT3 got on base on 4 of his plate appearances.  Plus he actually got a stolen base.  Puig had a 3 hit night.  The Dodgers actually got a sac fly.   After the third inning they stopped chasing Corbin’s slider and worked him to where he was gone after 5.  Baez is proving to be a good low leverage…

What Happens After Corey Seager?

May 2, 2018

What do the Dodgers do now? Personnel wise – NOTHING .  FAZ needs rely on what they have developed.  They have shortstops that can play at the ML level, although certainly not at the Corey Seager level.  Other than Francisco Lindor or Carlos Correa, there is no other comparable SS. There is absolutely no reason to make a trade for a rental like Manny Machado. But let’s be realistic….

What Winter Meetings?

December 16, 2017

Well this has been some Hot Stove League for the Dodgers thus far, right?  The Winter Meetings went just about as most expected…the current 40 man roster is the same as before the meetings started.  I don’t count Koehler because he was post Winter Meetings, and the signing is still pending physical.  I never thought Stanton was an option, but it was fun to fantasize.  My only disappointment is that…

FAZ and Unpredictability

November 28, 2017

Anyone who really believes they know what the Master Plan is could be delusional.  One thing I have learned is that one never knows in what direction FAZ goes.  Did anyone truly believe that FAZ would have signed all three 2016 FA?  Most did not even think Hill was a consideration, and that FAZ would only sign one of Jansen and Turner.  I thought that Turner would come back (LA…
