    1. Bizarre, isn’t it?
      Nice to see Taylor’s recent surge quantified here. Small sample, but could he be returning to his old self? Will we drop the DFA talk and salary-dump trade scenarios?
      And Pages has bounced back nicely too, which is not so surprising.
      And suddenly Lux powers up….
      And Rojas has found the fountain of youth…
      And with Yamamoto and Buehler ailing, Knack joins fellow rookie Stone in bolstering the rotation. Is Knack a keeper? And is Kershaw just a few weeks away? (Glasnow has already thrown 100 innings! Is the new durability sustainable?)
      Leaves me wondering about how AF and Gomes view their personnel priorities now.
      With Muncy out and his recovery slow, perhaps 3B/UT should become a trade priority. Or at least we should see Lipcius get a chance.

  2. Does anyone know when Barnes catches and Will is on the bench, what the Dodger’s record is? I bet it’s below ,500. It’s hard to watch his at bats. I hope he stays in the organization as a coach or advisor ,not on the 26 man roster.

    Both kids have nothing left to prove in the ACL. Would like to see them put on the fast track.

    Same for dePaula at RC. Spanning back to last year he has now a full season of low A ball under him . Holding more than his own with a solid .278 average and 6 HR. Power has improved visibly over last season.

  6. Ummm if it looks like Muncy is out a long time wouldn’t it make sense to look for a third baseman and outfielder then a shortstop. Hear me out. Okay the Dodgers could get a third baseman for the playoff run. Either Arenaldo or Bregman which I would take Bregman with his playoff history. The dodgers could have a lineup like this with Bregman if it sounds like Muncy won’t be back.

    I say you do it Bregman will be a free agent next year and then you sign him in off season as your thirdbase man and trade Muncy in off season. For something like a backup catcher or outfielders or a legit shortstop .

    2. What is Bregman’s career OPS?
      He’s been a quality player for a long time. If the Dodgers are shopping for 3B, they could do a lot worse than Bregman.

      1. Ask and ye shall receive, Bregman’s career OPS is.849. OPS+ 132. Career .272 hitter. .967 career fielding average. Could be trade fodder. Simply a rental at this point. 3 years younger than Muncy.

  9. Bradley, i don’t think you are a moron!! BUT, no way in hell would i want to see Bregman in a dodger uniform, EVER!!!! Smirking little cheater!

      1. There is a slight flaw in your plan Bradley. A. The Cardinals are not out of it. They are above .500, and 6 games back of Milwaukee in the standings. But they are only one-half game back in the Wild Card race. Nolan Arenado is having the worst season of his career. He is hitting .260, he only has 6 homers and 32 RBIs. His OPS+ is under 100, which is league average. His OPS is .691. That is 170 points below his career average. Arenado is as good with the glove as he ever was. One other problem is the amount of money he is still owed. 74 million dollars for three more seasons. He is 33 years old and seems to be slowing down. The Cardinals outfielders are not exactly tearing the cover off of the ball. None of them is hitting above .258. None of them are in double figures in homers, in fact Donovan leads their outfielders with 7 homers. Muncy was moved to the 60-day, but it was back-dated. He should be back sometime between the All-Star game and the first of August. No one is talking about third because everyone expects Max back before August. Trade deadline is the 30th of July. If Muncy is not healthy by then, maybe they will kick the tires on a third baseman, but it won’t be Arenado or Bregman.

  10. Well I said Bregman because the rumors are Astros will try to get prospects before he walks in free agency and rumors are Yankees as a free agent. So at trade deadline rumor waa Yankees or Phillies for him I myself would like to see dodgers get Rameriz from Cleveland in the off season and trade Muncy he gets hurt to much the last three years. I think it’s going to be DeLong Robert’s Jr and Crochet that the Dodgees get at trade deadline. Moving Betts to second and hope that Muncy us back at third.

Wait if they get DeJong and he comes back next year at shortstop komd of loke a bill russel at shortstop can put the ball in place andolay good defense and have a outfield of teo hernandez Robert’s Jr and Pages you think they will go after Rameriz from Cleveland for thirdbase and trade Muncy and prospects to Cleveland in the off season talk about a lineup next year if they get Rameriz and then have to do something with a backup catcher to give will smith rest that Kurt Casale with the Giants he is a very good number two catcher and can pinch hit. Im just saying nice to have guys on bench that can pinch hit. Build that bench up for next year like a good backup catcher a outfielder that can hit both righties and lefties a utility guy and then usually two other players. They get Rameriz then they can work on that bench for next year.

    1. A. Hernandez is a free agent at the end of the season. They could extend him, but there does not seem to be any indication that they will so far. B. You are guessing that they will trade for Robert Jr. at the deadline. I suggest that before you lock that in, you watch their next three games against the White Sox and see if he looks like the player, you think he is. He would not come cheap. Are the Dodgers willing to give up a ton of talent for a player who has played over 100 games exactly once in his career? He is having a terrible start to his season. Would a trade make him a better player this year? He is still an injury risk. C. Why would Cleveland want to trade Ramirez? Why would Cleveland want Muncy? Ramirez is a much better defensive third baseman than Max. He is the cement of their lineup. Their best power hitter, and he has three seasons left on his deal. He also would require a huge return. Cleveland is the class of their division so far. Doubtful they want to break that team up. D. Curt Casali is ok as a backup, but not a huge improvement over Barnes. He is older than Barnes and has very little power. I do not see his bat off of the bench as an improvement. E. DeJong would be a rental. No need to re-sign him.

  14. there was a. simple explanation why the blue jays released biggio, he CANNOT hit!! Another loss last night to one of the worst teams in baseball. AT HOME. Pitching is fine. Offense is sporadic. If you look at the previous champs over the last few seasons, the bottom of the dodgers lineup is right up there. Or down there i should say. RVS. needs to get busy!! He’s got work to do!

    1. More impressive were the three at bats by Gavin Lux, homer, sharp lineout to left and then a single to left. 2 RBIs. Roberts told Biggio to be more aggressive at the plate. And that is what he did. Biggio is a decent hitter overall. Not a power guy, but he usually makes contact.

    “On the season, between Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Wrobleski has a 3.22 ERA in 14 starts, with 73 strikeouts against only 14 walks in 72â…” innings, the latter more than any Dodgers minor league pitcher this season. Saturday was Wrobleski’s second career double-digit strikeout game. He also struck out 10 batters for High-A Great Lakes on June 14, 2023”.

    1. Wrobleski is a LHP.
      Solid debut at AAA. I think we could see him at DS as early as this season for a spot start or two. Or to showcase him for a trade. Young man certainly has excellent stuff.

          1. Wrobleski and Ryan are probably the two pitchers that AF will be most asked about this July. We have no way of knowing what the front office really thinks of those two, but at least one of them would probably have to be included to reel in a big fish at the deadline.

            Of course, we don’t even know if Andrew plans to go fishing.

          2. Right… If you can trade for a young SP like Crochet or Luzardo who has proven himself in the majors, you should consider trading a rising prospect or two.
            The aim should be to have 3-4 top-tier starters heading into the playoffs… instead of relying on a guy like Lance Lynn.
            Pretty sure the Dodgers would get a few years of control with Crochet or Luzardo, which could help the six-man rotation.

          3. Duke, Luzardo just went on the IL and is not expected back for a while. LA is not going to trade for damaged goods. They need help now.

  19. I know of a very good starting pitcher who is not on any MLB roster, is pitching in Mexico and has pitched excellently. He would not cost anything, but money and he is comfortable in Dodger blue. Trevor Bauer, He deserves another chance. And he is open to coming back to LA. I thought the new city connect uniforms looked a lot better than the Los Doyers uni. The cap is awesome. So awesome, I ordered one.

          1. Urias was found guilty of a bunch of charges. The court has disciplined him with community service, anger management and some other things. MLB is still weighing their options. Suffice it to say, he isn’t going to pitch in the majors anytime soon. Just google him and you can find out what the punishment has been so far. He could still face a stiff suspension by MLB.

      1. Most could not understand the little sprinkles on the uni which are supposed to represent the stars who have been in the city. I do not think they are dark enough to take away from the uniform itself which has clean lines, a somewhat modern design with the name under the number and cutting part of it off. Also the slash through Los Angeles and using a zero in front of a player’s number. 05 and such.

        1. Yeah, I love that, and it is also on the uniform sleeve. I should get my new cap by Monday. I am also getting my new Fender acoustic amp that day. I love Sweetwater music.   21. Yankees pick up JD Davis. Wow! A player that can play thirdbase and 1st base and outfield. He also has power and would have been a good pinch hitter off the bench. They got him from the A’s. And the Dodgers get Biggio. Are you kidding me. When JD Davis could have been a way better choice. Is this better Bluto. I will make it clearer for your little brain. See the A’s had a guy with power and can play thirdbase. And the Dodgers have four guys that cant hit. In Hernandez, Taylor, Barnes, and biggio. The Dodgers should have picked up JD Davis and let one of those four guys go.

  22. Bradley, JD was DFAd less than 5 days ago. The Dodgers picked up Biggio back on June 12th. At that point in time, JD was not an option. JD is not having a very good year. He has a negative WAR, only 4 homers, and is hitting .236. And he is ok at third, but no defensive whiz over there. His OPS is below .700. Taylor is not going to be released due to his contract, which has another season to go. Kike is way more versatile than Davis who basically can play third, first and left field. Biggio also has the advantage of being a left-handed hitter. The Dodgers needed a lefty hitter more than one who hits right-handed. Barnes is a catcher; Davis would never be signed as a replacement for Barnes. Davis is not that big of an upgrade. If you got the player, he was back in 2019 when he hit over .300 with 22 homers, then yes, he would have been a better choice. David Bednar placed on 15-day IL. Arenado pulled with soreness in his forearm.

  23. Dodgers picked up a half game on all of their pursuers. Series with the Sox begins tonight with Crochet pitching for the White Sox. LA has not announced their starting pitcher yet. For those of you begging AF to trade for Robert Jr, you should watch this series and see what he does. His line so far is not pretty. .191 BA, 7 homers, 11 driven in, but the most telling stat I see, 36 strikeouts in 89 at bats. His OPS is .737. Sox just got Eloy Jimenez back. Pham has cooled off a lot. Hitting .268 now with just 4 long balls.

  25. Roberts also provided more positive injury updates to reporters (including Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times) this evening regarding right-handers Dustin May and Brusdar Graterol. The manager indicated that both pitchers have begun to throw bullpen sessions and called the sessions “promising.” While the timelines for each player’s return are still unclear, Roberts expressed confidence that both would return to action before the 2024 season comes to a close.

  27. Has anyone read the new Scully book? Perfect Eloquence: An Appreciation of Vin Scully by Tom Hoffarth.

    Its fantastic, im over half way done and I cant recommend it enough. For any Dodger, Baseball or just anyone in general its a GREAT read.

    We were blessed to have this man associated with the Dodgers for over 67 years.

    Most of us are adults on this platform that Mark’s so generously provides us, and some are not.

    Thanks Bear for the fact checking and timelines on Biggio and JD.
    That said agree with Bradley and others that I don’t necessarily understand how a cast-off from a crappy team becomes a major role player for the Dodgers.
    Obviously the FO though differently.

    1. Bradley has a lot of passion for the team. But I believe he really does not have a strong understanding of how things work in the majors when it comes to trades and picking up players. There are so many variables that need to be considered when trading players. Injury history, salary, character, do they fill a position of need. Biggio was one of those guys who filled a position of need. They obviously felt Kike could not handle the job against RHP. So, a lefty bat was needed. They have been RH dominant in the lineup since Muncy went down, and Outman was demoted. As you and most of us here well know, if the Dodgers see a player with a skill set, they like, aka versatility to play multiple positions, and they feel they have seen something in his swing or approach they think they can fix, well, they will make that kind of deal. Bradley is also laboring under the idea that bad teams will trade their best players. Not always the case, especially if a team is trying to rebuild around that player. And he is consistent. He wants the stars and who could blame him. But with the Dodger payroll as high as it is, they would be less likely to add really good players like Yelich or Arenado because of how much they are owed. What makes sense to some, makes no sense to others. I would love to have the 2019 version of JD Davis, but he has not been that player the last few years.

      1. If we would have gotten Yelich and Addames this last off season we be sitting pretty good right now. But Bear you told me Yelich is washed up the Dodgers could have had him in LF and Addames at shortstop and Betts at second base. Don’t know if they would have gotten Teo Hernandez. But that would have been a good trade and you said no way to that idea.

        1. Bradley, I never said Yelich was washed up. I said he was not the same player as he was a few years ago. He is having a decent season for the Brewers, but the main reason the Dodgers would not trade for him is his contract and I told you that flat out a last year. The Dodgers could only have had him if the Brewers were willing to trade him to the Dodgers. Same thing with Adames. I said no way because I knew they would not trade for Yelich’s contract. He is still owed 104 million dollars. Yelich had three down years in a row, 20-21-22. He had an uptick last year where he hit .278. Had 19 homers too, but he struck out 140 times. He struck out 162 times the year before. This year he is hitting .316. He has 7 homers, 38 runs driven in. Would he be a nice pickup? Yes, but he is still owed a lot of money. One giant plus is that he is hitting left-handed pitching better than he is right-handed. Adames is having a good year also. His OPS is under .800 but close enough that he might finish above .800. It takes two teams to make a trade. Milwaukee was in the playoff race last season, so there was no need to trade Adames or Yelich. They are in the same position this year, leading their division by 5 games. Why in the world would they trade two of their six best players for what would probably be some prospects and damage their playoff chances. That trade had little chance of happening last year, and it has ZERO chance of happening this year. They could move Adames because he is a free agent after the year, and they have a young SS in the wings. But he would be a rental. And AF is not going to overpay for a rental. I understand how the system works and how teams come together to make deals. It has to benefit both teams and make sense. Contenders do not make trades just to make trades, they trade to make their team better. You are a passionate fan of the Dodgers, and you want them to get all the best players they can, but it just doesn’t work that way. And that is what you need to understand. It is a great trade idea, but it just is not going to happen for the reasons I stated. If it were done, I would be the first to admit I was wrong. But I have been watching this game a lot longer than you have and following the team. I want LA to get the best players it can too. But I don’t aim for the best ones because I know the price is not going to be cheap.

Now that being said, i wanted arenado last year. I’m glad they didn’t make that trade now. I would still make the trade for Bichette if healthy. Earlier in the month i too was called crazy for suggesting that trade. It’s a rumor, but not a small one. I would also make an offer to the rockies for Ryan McMahon. They probably say no but i would check! Guy is excellent 3rd baseman! Finally tonight. A very good pitcher on the mound for the sox. A bad team, A good pitcher. Bad combination for our dodgers.

    1. According to Doc, Teo had to go home on personal business. He will return tomorrow, Heyward is 1-2 against Crochet with 2 driven in.

  32. Kershaw will be shut down for at least one week after feeling soreness in his surgically repaired left shoulder during a bullpen session over the weekend, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

    Kershaw underwent an MRI which didn’t reveal any new damage to the shoulder, so the hope is that this is just a minor setback. He had been slated for his second rehab start Tuesday, but that will be delayed indefinitely.   33. Padres manager Mike Shildt said Monday that Tatis will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a “slight stress reaction” in his right quadriceps, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

    Tatis missed the last two games with a triceps injury after being hit in the left arm by a pitch Friday, and he will now be sidelined with a separate quadriceps injury. A stint on the injured list would line up with a return in early July, but it’s possible that the 25-year-old could be held out until after the All-Star break, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. Tatis is slashing .279/.354/.468 with 14 home runs and 36 RBI over 345 plate appearances and an .822 OPS.

    Keith Law: Do you mean McLain in his draft year? He had a broken hamate for part of that spring and didn’t get a chance to put up big numbers or even show what sort of power he had.

    Jared: Wondering which of the Orioles prospects as you see as the “easiest” for team to move in possible trades, given their glut of talent, current roster construction and which prospects are desirable to other teams.

    Keith Law: They could easily trade two outfielders and not even notice – Mayo is the best of them and the one I’d keep if possible, but he has to be in that group with Kjerstad, Cowser, even fringier guys like Stowers if they can fill out a trade. Norby and Westburg would also have a lot of value as guys who could step right into a major-league role but who the Orioles don’t entirely need.

    Jerry: If the Astros are in the same place at the deadline, should they give serious consideration to trading Alvarez, Tucker, or Valdez? Seems like those would be the only ones who would bring a substantial return.

    Keith Law: I’d really try to extend Tucker and shop the other two. You build around guys like Tucker.

    Ben: TWP’s are becoming more commonplace ever since Ohtani’s success. Are there any you have your eye on right now you believe can do well at both hitting and pitching?

    Keith Law: TWPs are becoming more commonplace in college/the minors. They are not becoming more common in the majors because it’s next to impossible to do. Ohtani’s a unicorn.

    Jay Jaffe: I think all four of those guys are going to wind up in Cooperstown with impressive but very different legacies. Trout passed the JAWS average for center fielders before his 27th birthday (https://blogs.fangraphs.com/mike-trout-is-now-an-average-hall-of-famer…). Ohtani is a two-way player like we’ve never seen before. Judge’s power is incredible, as is Soto’s batting eye. If Ohtani can return to pitching well while still hitting well, I think he’s the answer but I think that one way or another we’ll be talking about all of these guys 50 years from now (maybe not me, as I’ll be 104 years old).

    Guest: You think Walker Buehler can get back on the right track this season?

    Jay Jaffe: The velocity is there, but the stuff is down and so is the coommand. I think it’s going to take some time for him to figure out what works now as opposed to what worked 2018-22.

    1. A couple days ago they discussed this topic on Dodgers Nation (I believe). There are some voices who advocate for Vargas to play occasionally at 3b to get his bat into the lineup. during that discussion it was said that he has played many hundreds of innings at 3b during his minor league career. So the experience is there though not recently.

    1. Yeah, many were down on Alex back then. But he has been nails for a while. Hudson has been damn good too. LA picked up 1/2 game on the D-Backs tonight. They are now 10 games back. SD and SF won to stay where they are.
