Merry Dodger Christmas

It’s a great time to be a Dodger fan.

I keep hearing that the outfield is weak.

OK, whatever!

I disagree, but I have never been able to change anyone’s mind that has already been made up… successfully. However, if you each get one Dodger wish for Christmas… What would it be?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

From the Timmons family to you and yours: From L to R: Tasha (daughter), Me, Patty (wife), Steve (son), and Rhiannon (daughter-in-law). Missing are my oldest son (Nick in NY) and my wife’s two kids (Chris and Cassie and their spouses), spending the Holiday with their father in SF, who happens to be moving to Indy next year), and the six granddaughters.

  1. Merry Christmas to you and your family Mark. One wish, hmmmm. I would wish that the team is as free from injuries this season as possible. A side wish is that Kershaw is fully healthy and comes back to help them win the World Series and end his career in Dodger blue. CK should never wear a different uniform.

  2. Merry Christmas to all LADT readers and contributors! A special thanks to Mark and Old Bear for keeping the site fresh and relevant – I never miss my “Morning LADT and coffee.” As a former Mayor, I just wish that our political dialogue was as constructive and instructive as LADT has been for me…..

  3. Merry christmas to all here at LADT!

My Dodgers christmas wish: A big RH thumper for LF.

  4. Merry Christmas to you Mark and Bear , and all the contributors and families on this wonderful Dodger site. My one Dodger wish is a 2024 World Series Championship and parade, nothing less.

  5. love this place! Merry christmas everyone! i admit , iā€™m one guilty of wanting a power hitting left fielder, sorry, the heart wants what the heart wants. a platoon of heyward and margot is fine. outman playing 130 games? ok with me. want a full time lrft! and please , can we get over all these mlb writers putting Taylor in left field! heā€™s a utility player! a good one , (overpaid) but a good one. canā€™t see Buehler resigning with the dodgers in 25. if he has a good season , heā€™ll command a healthy contract . with ohtani back in 25, yamamoto, glasnow, and sheehan, i believe he walks. agree, Clayton should never wear another uniform. make it work AF! Beautiful family Mark! i have 5 grandchildren and 2 more due next month! we all have so much to be thankful for! different opinions are normal. our politicians are not! be safe everyone and love your families and raise your children and grandchildren right! as dodger fans!!!

  6. Merry Christmas and thank you all for the special Dodger juju! Appreciate this site and devotion to our baseball team. Go Dodgers!

  7. Merry Christmas to all, and thanks for your contributions to a great site that kept me entertained and enlightened every day! Go Blue!

  8. An injury free season. Merry Christmas to all. My wife and I have 25 grandkids all within 10 minutes of our house in Reno. We are truly blessed.

  9. Merry Christmas to all. Great photo Mark. Lovely family (and tree behind you)
I too wish for a more injury free season. We had way more than our share last year, especially to our pitching.
Spring Training will be a zoo here in Az. Can’t wait.

  10. Happy Yuletide to Mark and all of LA Dodger Talk.

Mark, you say you disagree about the outfield being weak? I think youā€™re just trying to create discussion and know that that assessment will scramble the brains of so many of the ā€œmorons,ā€ like myself.

    Consider;
CF; Outman is the only full time starter who youā€™ve said over and over again is a 4th or 5th outfielder. I think that means that he shouldnā€™t be a starter. Right? And I agree with you. He does have a hole in his swing the size of Chavez Ravine. Heā€™ll probably regress in 2024. My evaluation of CF is a ā€œCā€ grade. But if itā€™s manned by a player you feel shouldnā€™t start perhaps it should be lower.

RF; Supposedly a platoon between Heyward and Margot. Iā€™m thinking you may think this is their strong field with a possibly resurgent Heyward teaming up with Margot (who we know you love). Iā€™m worried thereā€™s a good chance that Heyward regresses (a La Outman) and that youā€™ve overrated Margot, who will only start against lefties; heā€™ll only playing 25-30% of the time. Thatā€™s very part-time and not a great opportunity to become a difference maker. Iā€™m thinking that if Margot is as good as you say he is he should be a starter, not a rather minor role player. Grade, ā€œC.ā€

LF; Iā€™m hearing that thereā€™s not a clear favorite here but that Doc will employ a carousel of likely benchiesā€¦Among them are Taylor, Busch, Vargas, possibly Margot (yesā€¦the Usual Suspects), and possibly an acquisition or a prospect. Sadly, Taylor has become a hitting liability who only hits flagrant mistakes, but usually misses on those also. Busch and Vargas (two weak fielding converted infielders that would resemble the Keystone Cops in left) havenā€™t been able to hit above .200 inThe Bigs. That could change but ā€œShow Me!ā€ Margot is perhaps the best possibility at this time but heā€™s hardly had impressive career. And Bear claims he (70 something) has more power than Margot has. Hmmm.
    Grade, D to C-.

So whereā€™s the Star Power youā€™re touting. Whoā€™s the Big Dog out there that impresses you? Margot? Ouch!!! Maybe Bear can playLeft.

Your support of these misfits and harlequins seems like another case of overblown Dodger Hype; its strictly Disney, itā€™s not from Missouri, itā€™s not based on stats or the eye test; itā€™s not based on any reality that I can imagine or fathom. This group is so feeble with the wood that theyā€™ll be hitting 7,8,9 in the line up. The Dodger Propaganda Machine is fast at work; the same Ever Deceptive Voice that dictated on good authority that Glasnow is an Ace (based only in the fact that he occasionally has Ace stuff). Is transparency too much to ask for?

This Mookie-less outfield sucks. And to quote the immortal words of Mark Timmons, ā€œEven Ray Charles can see that.ā€

Merry Christmas Mark. You have a lovely family. Violet Rae is a Little Princess. All the best.

  11. This Christmas season, remember that at the very first Christmas, something radical happened: the gift was the Giver himself.
    Merry Christmas to all!

  12. How about a Eddie Rosario in LF a Corey Dickerson or David Grossman in LF or Tommy Pham. I thought this one last nite move Outman to Left Field and sign free agent Kevin Keilmier to play centerfield then you have Heyward and Margot and Taylor platoon in Right Field hows that sound a better outfield or there’s Michael Taylor who is a good centerfield and would be a good number nine hitter since he used to leadoff last year for the Nationals.

    1. All in Funā€¦

Any truth to the rumor that the Dodgers have inquired about the availability of Barry Bonds? We know AF leaves no stone unturned. Bonds, whose been staying in shape by wrestling military trained alpha-kangaroos and weighty Navy elephant seals in the All-Pro Tasmanian Wrestling League (under the name ā€œBig Head Bondsā€), says heā€™s ready to make a comeback that would enhance his Hall of Fame chances. Reportedly, he fancies the opportunity to play along side All-Star attractions and noble stalwarts of the game like Chris Taylor and Miguel Margot and canā€™t miss rocket prospects like Michael Busch and Miguel Vargas.

Adding fuel to this rumor is the additional rumor that one time Red Sox playoff hero, current disgraced Dodger manager, and six time play-off loser David ā€œDocā€ Roberts wants to become a Player-Manager in 2024 and serve as a Flag Bearing Playoff Inspiration (leading his team into battle as ( The Doc of Arc!). He says his ā€œlion-heartā€ is raging for bat-to-ball competition. Pundits claim that the additions of Bonds and Doc could stimulate the global face of the Dodger franchise to yet additional fame and new riches and that an outfield of Bonds, Doc, and Old Bear would actually outhit our current starters. Bonds incidentally noted that his semi famous, custom made, tuck-n-roll Lazy-Boy style recliner (the Donald Trump Presidential model) is ready to go and ready to be placed in the Dodger locker roomā€¦should he decide to sign.

Thatā€™s my wish for today. The come back of two future Hall of Famers.

Hmmmm. Iā€™m wondering what Good Cheer is in that grog that everyone here is drinkingā€¦.

  13. that was a whole lot to swallow Bradley!! but my friend you have not one guy there that moves the meter. in left field. we have plenty of .240 hitters already on the roster!

    1. Then I guess it’s Busch and Vargas that doesn’t make us better really it doesn’t. Eddie Rosario would be better when both those guys. Did you remember how he played when the braves won it all. That’s what you needi in playoffs buddy swallow that

      1. Bradley

You wanted the Dodgers to get the other Rosario at the trade deadline last season, I don’t know why. His career slashline is .272/.308/.400/.708 and he sucked when he came over to the Dodgers. .272 BA is pretty good but the rest sucks.

Now Eddie? His career slashline is .268/.305/.460/.766 and his best years are way behind him.

I’d like the Dodgers to get a free agent outfielder, not a trade, but the only one I see that has a good career slashline is Hoskins. Some here don’t want Hoskins because of flawed defense stats and possibly because he missed all of last season with an injury. But I still want the Dodgers to get him. His career slashline is .242/.353/.492/.846, his BA is not good but it’s not bad either, but his OPS is very good.

The offense was one of the best last season and they’ve upgraded from last season SS (Rojas last year), 2B (Vargas a half season last year) and DH (Martinez and he was good though) along with the starting pitching.

Last year Peralta got a lot of at bats in LF and he was nothing to write home about and look at who platooned with him and Heyward for that matter, a bunch of guys that either produced below average or sucked. The Dodgers are a better built team than last year.

I don’t think LF is an urgency considering what I said in the previous paragraph, even though some here think so.

As of right now Margot (I don’t like him) will platoon with Heyward, Outman will be the everyday CF, even though some here are trigger happy and think he needs to be platooned and some here think he will regress. I think Heyward will regress though. As of right now Taylor in LF even though some here think he sucks, but he rebounded from a horrible 2022 to almost his career stats that include the years before he was a Dodger when he actually did suck. Look at his Dodger career stats and if he does suck and I don’t think he will and if Heyward regresses, those are the only weak spots, that is IF Taylor sucks.

With all of that said, I still would like Hoskins in LF because it’s only money, not a trade. I think he would cost a reasonable amount at a reasonable amount of years due to missing last season.

I think AF will make a move because there’s 12 position players on the roster if you don’t count Busch, Vargas, Pages and the extra catchers.

  14. wow Bradley! rosario is washed! i like vargas and busch! just not enough room for both. read the white sox would want busch , vargas , and a catcher for cease. wouldnā€™t do that for cease , but i would for Robert!

  15. My Dodger wish all’s I ask for is 2024 seasonal front row behind the plate tickets and VIP parking. Is there really a Santa? I mean I’ve been good, sort of. A very magical Xmass all.

  16. My Dodger wish is Clayton comes back as dominant as he was in his Cy Young years. We win the World Series with him on the mound and he is carried off on the shoulders of his teammates. The only fitting finish to a true first ballot Hall of Fame career. Merry Christmas to all Dodgers knucklehead fans like we all are! Meant in the warmest way possible, Dan

  17. Merry Christmas to Mark, Bear, and all the contributors at LADT. I greatly appreciate your efforts and your opinions. We are blessed to live in countries where we have freedom of speech and religion. I wish a joyous holiday to all!
