The Winter Meetings & What About Marketing?

Baseball’s Winter Meetings are right around the corner. They start on Sunday, December 3rd, and run through Wednesday, December 6th. This year, the Winter Meetings are held in Nashville, Tennessee at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. This is the Fifth time since 2000 (2002, ’07, ’12, ’15) that the event has been held in Nashville. If you have never been there, it should be on your bucket list. It is a city within a city.

I will be in Las Vegas next week at the NGWA Show), or I would consider driving down (it’s four hours from Indy) just for fun. There are more restaurants and bars than you can count in Opryland Hotel, and while it is not likely you will see Andrew Friedman there, you will see plenty of other baseball people there. The last time I did the Winter Meeting was in Indy, although I have been to the ones in Nashville twice. You may have seen these before, but here are two videos of an interview I did with Logan White and De Jon Watson, and you can see other baseball figures in the background:

The Winter Meetings are MLB’s marquee off-season event, during which GMs and agents get together, and many trades and free agent signings are consummated. While a lot of action takes place, it’s also a time for GMs to lay the groundwork for future deals, as it’s still over two months away from the start of spring training.

December 5th – The Draft Lottery – This decides the first six picks in the draft. The Mets, Padres, and Yankees will be moved down ten spots in the order if they fail to land a Top Six Draft Pick since they were $40 million over the luxury tax number of $233 million.

December 6th Rule 5 Draft –  The last event of the winter meetings is typically the Rule 5 draft. As soon as that’s over, there is a mad dash for the airport. Eligible minor league players who were not added to the 40-man roster by November 14th may be selected by another team. Those players must remain on the MLB roster for the entire season or otherwise be returned to their original club.

The Rule 5 Draft has a major league and minor league phase. The major league phase is one round in which minor leaguers not on a 40-man roster are eligible to be selected. The minor league phase works similarly, with players not on a 38-man Triple-A roster now eligible to be selected.

All in all, it should be an eventful few days for all of baseball. I am looking forward to it. This leads me to the next subject, which deals with marketing opportunities and revenue streams moving forward in baseball.

“Shohei Ohtani Will Make a Team Billions”

Some fans believe that, but just saying it does not make it true. The Dodgers are equipped and preparing for additional Global Marketing opportunities as is evidenced by the size of their Global Marketing Department. I have looked at several other teams, and there is little evidence that any MLB Baseball team has marketing… especially Global Marketing initiatives that rival the Dodgers. It appears to me that the Dodgers are more prepared to move forward with Global Marketing Partnerships and Programs than any other team in MLB, but does that mean they will sign Shohei Ohtani? I do not think they are mutually exclusive.

Here’s the problem… and the opportunity that comes with any problem: We don’t know what we don’t know, and neither do the Dodgers and all of MLB, for that matter! Yesterday, I posted a video that I will post again.

The times are changing and none more so than in the TV, Cable, and Streaming Areas. Just recently, the number of customers using streaming services has surpassed the number of cable customers. Over the past couple of years, cable TV has experienced a huge decline and loss of revenue as several sports networks have declared bankruptcy. This has impacted many teams and will likely continue for a time. The questions are many:

  1. Will Streaming continue to grow, and Cable continue to shrink? That seems very likely.
  2. Will Cable go the path of antennas? Probably… but how fast?
  3. Will MLB have more streaming opportunities, and how will that work? Yes, and we don’t know.
  4. How will Streaming Revenue be divided among MLB Teams? We don’t really know.
  5. Will teams that are at the forefront benefit financially from signing Asian and other foreign players? Well, yeah… but how much and how long?

The questions could go on and on, but for our purposes, we don’t know what we don’t know. This is unchartered territory. MLB has mostly been an American Game, but now we are facing globalization. We have never had a “World Series” – We have had an American Championship, but never a Real World Series – what could that look like? Could Japan, Korea, China, Venezuela, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Italy, and other countries all have National Teams to compete in a true World Series? Maybe!

Think about it! The times are changing! However, one thing I do know is that nothing beats winning! First and foremost, the Dodgers will always put a winning team on the field, whether it is comprised of American, Dominican, Korean, or Japanese players. Your nationality or race should not matter – what matters is your ability to play baseball and your character! If signing Shohei Ohtani makes financial sense, then he will be a Dodger, but the Dodgers, led by their President of Baseball Operations, have been built to win and win year after year! No one has built such a sustainable model, and right about now, there will be no dope-fiend moves. There are also a lot more Asian Players who may fit the Dodgers than Shohei Ohtani!

Enjoy the winter meetings!

  1. if i could pick my starting team without ohthani, it would look like this. mookie in right. freddie at first. bichette at shortstop. hopkins in left. muncy at 3rd. will catching. outman in center. lux at second. dh rotated , busch(vargas) , one gets. traded, hoskins every 3rd day. heyward, taylor, hunter f on the bench . rotation – miller cease, pepiot, wacha and the japanese lefty. i might also give an offer to whit merriefield, great bench piece for a 1 or 2 year deal. this team should win a 100 games and be absolutely capable of winning the world series! if money is the absolute bottom line, sign ohtani. but he isn’t necessary for this team to win achampionship.

  2. I once got lost at the Opryland Resort.

I’m over technology. I have both cable, streaming, land line and cell phone services through the cable company. I have two IPads, but now I need a new one because a new ap the college, where I’m on the board, decided to use can’t be used with the old IPads. I had to replace my Alexa, which was working just fine because we had a router go bad and the new router doesn’t worked with the old Alexa’s.

Okay, moving along, the times may be changing, always changing, but technology is pushing it far faster than in the past and I’m not sure the human race is keeping up. Nor do I think it’s good for our society.

    But back to baseball.

Trying to figure out how all this plays out for the Dodgers at this point is like trying to drive in a Tule fog.

Reports the Dodgers are making a hard push to trade for Dylan Cease, which makes some sense, are all over the web. The Braves may be in that pursuit too. It will happen soon, the pundits say, probably prior to the winter meetings. Will it be the Dodgers?

Friedman has stated the organization is shifting the approach, all this blessed by ownership. What this looks like, I’m not quite certain.

Will they sign Shohei Ohtani? There are reports that Friedman and the Dodgers are obsessed with Ohtani. But they also need experienced starters. Could they sign Yamamoto too as some have suggested. Now we’re talking serious money. Could Ohtani really get $500 million. I don’t think so. Probably be in the $400 million plus range. Not certain what crazy offers Yamamoto gets. But I’d think below $200 million.

Perhaps that’s why Cease makes so much sense.

    1. We used to talk about small-market and big-market teams.
The Dodgers are morphing into a global-market team, and so Ohtani is Job #1.
Fixing the rotation is Job #2, and Cease makes a lot of sense because….
–First, he has proven himself to be an ace-caliber pitcher. He slumped in ’23, but was the Cy Young runner-up in ’22. Prior and other coaches could help him get back to his ’22 form. He’s up there with Burnes and Snell in terms of ace potential.
–He has two years left on his contract. This will add to the cost, but it provides a measure of security.
–Dodgers have the prospect capital to make it happen–leverage that many teams lack. This advantage won’t help them sign FAs like Ohtani. OK, what do the White Sox need? Dodgers can help, especially with pitchers and catchers. If the Dodgers aren’t going to play 26-year-old guys like Busch and Feduccia, they should deal them. Sox released Tim Anderson, so perhaps Miguel Rojas could be their bridge to their next SS. Just a lot of possibilities.
–Finally, the Braves reportedly want Cease too, and their rotation is already first-rate. Keeping Cease out of Atlanta’s rotation would be a plus.

If AF is bold, the Dodgers could land both Burnes and Cease in trades, and also sign Ohtani. The Dodgers and Brewers just match up so well for major deal.
It would cost some top prospects, but imagine this rotation: Burnes, Cease, Buhler, Miller, Pepiot/Sheehan/???…. And in ’25, Ohtani could be added for a six-man rotation. (Also possible that Pepiot and Sheehan are dealt Dodgers sign guys like Giolito or Flaherty or ??? to round out the rotation.)
Do we need a lefty? Imanaga is possible but won’t be cheap. But there’s Yarbrough, or perhaps Ryu or other FA options. Perhaps even Kershaw could come back at midseason. But all considered, I’d rather have a good righty than an average lefty.

  3. Can’t wait for 2024!
Starting rotation of Cease, Glasgow, Snell, Burnes and Yamamoto.
Ohtani at dh, Bichette at short and Bregman at third and Bellinger back in CF! Thanks AF!

    1. Wow, you dove into the deep end of the pool with that one. Not happening my friend. Just signing Snell and Ohtani would cost the Dodgers 4 draft picks. If they signed Bellinger, not sure how big the penalty would be Three players with a QO. Not happening

      1. Are you serious that you thought I was serious? Just commenting on the ridiculous fact that all the “experts” have us in on every player!

      2. I thought that signing Ohtani would only cost one draft pick. Isn’t it just one draft pick for each FA who received the QO?

        1. No, not when you are over the CBT like the Dodgers were three times in a row. They lose 2 picks, and 1 million in international pool money if they sign Ohtani. If they sign a second QO player, they lose four picks total. Two, three five and six. A team like the Royals would lose one pick.

  4. I will say this:

If you hear something related to the Dodgers, it’s more likely disinformation put out by AF.

Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see!

  5. Per Rosenthal (and there’s more to this but it’s $$$$)

New White Sox general manager Chris Getz is telling clubs he likely will wait to move on right-hander Dylan Cease until after the top free-agent starting pitchers sign, according to major-league sources briefed on the discussions.

  6. I stream everything. I have a ROKU TV in the living room, 65-inch, and a 55-inch TV in the bedroom with a new ROKU Ultra. Since ROKU fixed their feud with Spectrum, I can stream Spectrum’s TV stations now. I do pay 6 bucks a month for the sports package which gives me the MLB Network and a lot of college sports. Report this morning on MLBTR said the Sox might be waiting to trade Cease until they see how much the top pitchers on the free agent market get paid.

  7. And continuing with the rumors, this one sounds interesting, I would like it!

    Dodgers receive:

    OF Randy Arozarena
    RHP Tyler Glasnow

    Rays receive:
    IF Michael Busch
    IF/OF Miguel Vargas
    RHP Landon Knack
    INF Jorbit Vivas

    Who says no?

Dodgers get one of the only postseason proven players in the sport, while Rays get multiple bats and a rotation arm

    1. Wow that is actually a pretty fair trade for both sides.

But, we are losing 3 infielders worth of young depth. Who from AAA steps up as a potential replacement players if Lux/Muncy/Betts (2b) get injured?

    2. I do not see Arozarena as an upgrade. .250 hitter with 20 homer power. Average defense. Another swing and miss hitter. 150 plus strikeouts each of the last two years. He is only 28, not a free agent until 2027. Glasnow has won 10 games exactly once in his career. Last season. He only pitched in 21 games. He is a free agent in 2025. 25 mil for him is too much money.

      1. Arozarena lifetime OPS .802 not bad, plus can play LF everyday. Glasnow is better than his stats show, also a local kid which I love. Too bad he isn’t a lefty.

          1. You can’t have allstars at every position, although both these may have been. I’m trying to figure who it is that you want???? Arozorena plays a mean LF and seems like a big game type of guy to me. Just what I think this teams needs. I wouldn’t have thought about him, but since it’s here I’m all for it. Glasnow can be dominant. If they don’t ask for much this is a no brainer to me.

          2. I want someone with better bat to ball skills than Arozarena. Other than his performance in the 2020 playoffs, he just isn’t that guy. I totally hate strikeouts. One reason I do not want them chasing Teoscar Hernandez, who has been linked to them since free agency began. His OPS the last two seasons is below .800. I will give you the point that he is a decent defender, and he has some power. For a guy as fast as he is, he gets caught stealing too much. Like I said, Glasnow does not have a very good track record, and He can’t stay on the field. Since 2018, with 2020 left out because of Covid,34, 12, 14, 2 and 21 games pitched. He is 30-27 lifetime with an ERA close to 4. Last season only the second time in his career with over 100 innings, 120. He is not what I call a difference maker. If you are going to trade prospect capitol, this is not the guy I am using it on. I prefer Cease.

          3. For left field, I would like to see them go after Lourdes Gurriel. He is only going to cost you money. Very good fielder strikes out a lot less and has about the same power. Better bat to ball skills. Had an excellent postseason with 3 homers and 11 driven in. And he won’t cost as much. They signed one free agent starter, Ricky Vanasco> So one of the Japanese guys, specifically the lefty, and someone like Giolito or Flaherty.

          4. Talent wise, Glasnow is the type of pitcher I hope Bobby Miller can become. That dude can be dominant and is the kind of pitcher that can be a force in the playoffs; hence, sprint. However, he’s not shown an ability to stay healthy throughout the entire marathon. Can he manage to healthy thru the entire season? ‍♂️

In terms of Arozarena, he was a force during the WBC, has put up solid numbers in the playoffs and got off to a great start at the beginning of the season, but suddenly tailed off. I wonder if he was dealing with an injury of sorts. He just didn’t look right at the end of the season.

IMO, this is exactly the type of deal that I foresee AF trying to capitalize on. Buy low. If we end up coming away with Glasnow and Arozarena this off-season I would consider it a success.

      1. Arozarena is not a free agent until 2027. He is arbitration eligible. Projections have him getting 7 million. Which is a bargain for a guy with his skills. But Glasnow is getting 25 million. He is not worth that much.

          1. Strikes out too much for me. But I am not the GM. There is that Rays connection though. AF likes to trade with them. I just think signing someone like Gurriel who is cheaper, a slightly better bat to ball guy and he does not strike out as much.

    1. Busch, who is Ryan? Yarbrough? Nobody wants Barnes.

Cease would take Busch or Vargas, Knack and Vivas… at least!

      1. Yep, it could take more.
Which of Busch, Vargas, Knack at Vivas is guaranteed a starting role in the ’24 Dodgers lineup? While they have potential, none of these players have really proven themselves on the ML level. (Vargas was guaranteed a starting role in ’23–but of course he wound up back in the minors.)
Cease is proven, and he would be near the top of the Dodgers rotation for at least the next two years.
Perhaps the Dodgers could include Rojas to replace Tim Anderson….

  8. Andy Martino of SNY indicated that the Los Angeles Dodgers could enter the fold and present a “major threat” to the Yankees and Mets’ chances of signing Yamamoto if they don’t end up with Shohei Ohtani.

Frankly, I’d rather the Dodgers go after Yamamoto.

As for Will Farrrell; I remember he once announced the Dodger’s lineup for a playoff game. When it came to the pitchers spot he said “batting 9th, tonight’s winning pitcher, Zach Greinke”

  9. I would be ecstatic if the Dodgers signed Yamamoto, Imagana, Hoskins, Kike, Ryu, and JDM. Keep all prospects and draft choices and have no penalties.

    Lineup:
    1. Betts 2B
    2. Lux SS (Gulp)
    3. Smith C
    4. Freeman 1B
    5. Martinez DH
    6. Muncy 3B
    7. Hoskins LF – Could platoon with Busch
    8. Heyward/DeLuca RF
    9. Outman /Kike CF

Bench: Vargas, Feduccia, plus the three platoon players

    Rotation:
    1. Yamamoto
    2. Miller
    3. Buehler (Maybe)
    4. Pepiot
    5. Imanaga
    6. Ryu
    7. Sheehan
    8. Stone

    Oh, sign Stephenson too.

    1. 1 What is your fascination with Kike Hernandez?

2 Why do you want Ryu? He’s an injury waiting to happen.

3 Why are you sending Busch to the outfield? He’s an infielder.

4 Why are you platooning Hoskins? He doesn’t need to be platooned.

      1. 1. He can play every position and play them well and he OPS .801 against LHP. THat’s why!

        2. He has been injured for a couple of years. He’s due and he is cheap. At a few million he is a risk I would take.

        3. Because that is where he can bloom.

        4. He kills LHP – and can do OK against RHP, but I want to give Busch an opportunity.

    2. I could live with that. Nice right to left balance in the batting order. Lux may worry me but, trial by fire just might be the ticket.

    3. Why Maybe on Buehler, did he have a set back?

And early 2000’s Ferrel is fantastic. Elf, Old School, Talladega Knights, Anchorman!!

That golf at Dodger Stadium would be awesome.

      1. Buehler pitched in a couple of games at AAA. I watched one of them. He did not have a set back. He looked pretty good but the team decided to not push the envelope and just shut him down. The maybe is because this was Buehler’s second procedure. Pitchers rarely come back from the second one and pitch well. It is all guess work. I can’t stand Farrell.

      2. Buehler has had two Tommy John Surgeries. It it far from a certainty that he makes it back.

I hope he does, but there are no guarantees!

      1. Joc has zero chance of coming back to LA. Reason? Jason Heyward. Better defender, solid clubhouse guy, and in a lot better shape than the good ship Pederson who resembles the Pillsbury dough boy now.

      1. CT3 is already under contract, right?
Kike is a free agent again. If the Dodgers bring him back, perhaps he could platoon with Max at 3B instead of Outman in CF. (DeLuca is another platoon possibility.)
Outman lacked power against lefties, but he made contact. He had a solid rookie season and he could build on that. A platoon could hamper his progress.

        1. CT-3 has two years left on his deal. Before they do anything, the Dodgers need to clear some roster space. Outman had a higher BA against LHP than he did right. But he only had one homer.

  10. nobody thought the dodgers would trade mike piazza but they did . i realize rumors are just that , rumors. but bichette at shortstop for 2 years and maybe more! i like kiki, but he looks like he might be treading the wrong way on a fast track. the more i think about hoskins , the more i like it! no taylor Mark? as for will ferrell, i love the guy! not everybody cup of tea but i loved him on saturday night live. loved belushi, john candy, and absolutely adored chris farley! pryor and murphy along with dave chapel are great. never into seinfeld, roseanne, although i like goodman. big andy griffith fan ! and bob uker (misspelled) is as funny as it gets! dean martin was a hoot. also like steve martin a ton

    1. Back in college I saw Steve Martin at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach. He was just hitting it big. I was told that on the previous night he led the audience out for a tour of the Huntington pier. (Might be an urban legend.)
Fun fact: When Martin was attending Garden Grove High, Dianne Hall was attending nearby Santa Ana High. She later changed her stage name to Keaton, and played Martin’s wife in the “Father of the Bride.” Just a couple of OC legends…
But on one of my luckiest days I was out in Santa Monica with my girlfriend in the middle of a day. This was the mid 1980s, and a guy asked us if we wanted to see a comedy show for free. He said he wasn’t allowed to tell us who was performing–just that it was a well-known comic who wanted to try some new material for a live audience. He would give us the tickets if we promised to show up
A couple hours later, we were watching Richard Pryor.

  11. The Dodgers did not trade Piazza, FOX did. Claire did not even know about it until it was official and over. Bichette isn’t going anywhere. Why would Toronto even consider doing that? 25 years old, under team control for two more years. .300 hitter with power. Decent defender. Making 12 million. He will get an increase if he finishes in the top 5 in the MVP vote. OPS+ is 126. My favorite comics, Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Robin Williams, George Carlin, Red Skelton, Uecker is a riot. Loved him in the Major League movies. Not a huge Andy Griffith fan. I did like Don Knotts, and I just love Tim Conway. Maybe he was the funniest man on the planet. Yakov Smirnoff, Gabriel Iglesias, and Don Rickles. And also Kevin Hart. The guy is hilarious and his banter with the Rock is awesome.

  12. The next 10 years will be interesting for all sports as far as broadcasting/streaming is concerned. I finally cut the cord the month after the regular season ended. I will likely sign up again for Spectrum streaming when spring training begins. The only reason I have had cable, for some years now, is for SportsNet LA. My kids and I literally never watch cable TV. I haven’t flipped channels for years. My kids live on YouTube and Netflix. My cell phone service comes with free Disney Plus and Hulu. There is never a lack of things to watch. And my kids will not go back as they get older. This is a generational shift. Just as cable was originally. I am part of the last generation that remembers endlessly screwing around with the rabbit ears to get a good picture. Or going to bed with a radio next to their pillow. My kids will be the last generation that remembers flipping channels.

I still remember the day I had to explain to my son how cable worked. He was maybe 8 or 9 and we came across a broadcast of Raiders of the Lost Ark. He asked me “can we start from the beginning?” I had to explain to him how cable worked. He was dumbfounded that all these movies and TV shows were being piped into our house, even when we didn’t ask for them. And they started at random times and not when we were ready to watch. The concept of broadcast/cable tv was as foreign to him as the concept that a phone is wired to the wall and has no screen.

This will be a problem for MLB and many other sports. The younger generations that are moving into adulthood simply have no interest in the way sporting events have being distributed for decades. The Dodgers have 15+ years left on their contract with Spectrum. Which is fine for the Dodgers. But I can see in the next decade that Spectrum will begin losing money on that contract. And the Dodgers will begin losing viewers. Bally’s has already gone under. Younger viewers are going to demand more flexible options to watch sports. And I think it will result in a major issues for MLB. Unlike the NFL, where most games are played on the same day of the week, you can’t just go to a sports bar and watch all of your teams baseball games for the week. And transitioning to a 100% streaming format could open up huge opportunities around the world to market baseball to international viewers. I’m sure MLB understands this. But these legacy contracts that are unique to each individual team will be a very difficult hurdle to overcome. The fact is, MLB no longer needs cable providers to distribute their games. But teams are locked into contracts that tie MLB’s hands to transition to a new distribution platform. This will be a massive issue for the sport moving forward. And how they deal with it will determine if MLB stays relevant to generations to come.

    1. Hey Quas…
Buddy was great. Do you remember when he hosted a short-live reboot of “You Bet Your Life”? Lasted only a season or so.
My semi-famous friend Peter Schmuck–former OC Register beat reporter covering the Dodgers and Angels, and later the Baltimore Sun’s lead baseball writer and columnist–was invited to be a contestant. He’d been in the news a bit because the State of California had refused to provide the personalized SCHMUCK license plate that she had ordered him for his birthday. He mentioned this to a fellow reporter at The Register, who wrote an article that carried this headline: “State Won’t License Schmuck.”
So the story went out over the wires, and Morning Zoo radio guys found Pete in the phone book. He’s a funny guy and did some funny interviews, saying he was thinking of suing the state for judging his name to be an obscenity. Finally the DMV called and said, “OK, you’ll get your plate.”
So the producers of Buddy’s new game show called Pete and asked him to bring the license plate to show on TV. All great fun. Now, of course Pete had heard every possible joke about his name, and he’s made up a few too….
Buddy: “Pete, I gotta ask. Have you ever considered changing your name?’
Schmuck: “Actually, Buddy, I did change my name.”
      Buddy: “You did?”
Schmuck: “Yeah, it used to be Richard, but I got tired of people calling me Dick.”
The live audience roared with laughter and Buddy mugged for the camera.
During a break, a producer approached Pete: “He makes the jokes. You don’t.”

  13. Add Ohtani Burnes Giolito Yamamoto and get Addames Yelich and Brandon Donavon. Trade away Busch Vargas Sheehan Rojas Lux Cantaya and some minor league guys oh amd sign Kiki back because he can play every where then at trade deadline they might need a third baseman. That’s what they need to improve this team they don’t need guys that will strikeout like Vargas Busch Yelich Nd Taylor platoon in LEFT Ouan and Heyward in center And Mookie in Right. Get Donavon from Cardinals to play second base if he doesn’t work then you have Kiki. Addames plays short Muncy at third and Ohtani at DH and Freeman at first smith at catcher with Feduccia as the backup improvement over Barnes.

    1. Bradley no one knows how Vargas is going to play. You are condemning a kid who has less than one full year of major league experience. You are adding old guys and getting rid of the team’s youth. Adames strikes out too much. Yelich is owed a ton of money. You sign Ohtani and Yamamoto as free agents, and you are talking close to 600 million just for those two guys. Burnes is a frippen one year rental as is Adames. I am not giving up a ton of kids for that. Lux is a better hitter than Adames, he is also faster. Brandon Donovan? Cardinals are not going to trade that guy. He is only in his third season. Kike is not an everyday player. Never has been. Busch or Vargas may well be traded but trade them for players who are going to be around more than one year. I am sorry dude; I am not trading Sheehan. Kid has some nasty stuff, and he is going to be a solid pitcher. And with what you suggested, there is no left-handed starter, and they are going to need one. They might get two of the players you mentioned, but they do not need Adames, Yelich or Donovan. You are dreaming. You want to cut down on strikeouts, but Adames is a K machine. Yamamoto is the youngest guy you are adding. He is only 25. But you need to realize that A. he has to want to sign here and B. The Dodgers make the best offer.

      1. I like Bradley’s passion for the team, but he makes some outlandish and unrealistic moves. Ohtani and Yamamoto together will cost in the neighborhood of 600 million dollars. Ohtani is going to get 4 plus on his own, and all of the pundits seem to think Yamamoto is going to get at least 200 mil. Simply because of his age. The Dodgers need a lefty starter. They have one on the roster, Yarbrough. Before they sign anybody, they need to clear some roster space. Players cannot be put on the IL until pitchers and catchers report to spring training. So, we know Gonsolin and May will be placed on that list when the team reports to Camelback. Feduccia is going to have to prove himself in spring training. Barnes is signed through next season and has an option. And although many here want an upgrade, Barnes is respected by the pitching staff.

        1. Wow okay Ohtani Hoskins Cease Giolito and Merrifield since we are worried bear about dodgers having money that means Rojas a starting pitcher and Busch or Vargas artaya and vivas to the whitesoxs oh Nd resign Kiki to play every where as will Taylor because we all know at some time Muncy always get hurt so you need Taylor and henrnadez to ay third Merrifield can at second and be steady and Lux every day at shortstop that should make bear happy continue like we been doing platooning players because that’s git us to the world series instead we could have seven guys play every day ans sub outman and Muncy on days they cant hit the pitcher. We will keep doing like we been doing and strike out and miss if we don’t change guys and keep what we have. Shoot dodgers could get India from reds or Donavon from Cardinals or I hear Elvis Anderus from As to play second base yet bear thinks done of those guys would want to come to LA when we have prospects to send to other teams .

  14. Get ready for an Ohtoni signing. Some may like it, some may not, but he will be a Dodger. I’ve predicted this from the first day of the off season.

    1. I will root for Ohtani if he becomes a Dodger, but I have steadfastly predicted he will not be a Dodger since early last season.

      I stand by that!
