When I was Young and a Dreamer

March 29, 2021

1959, start of the season – A young 11-year-old boy reads about his heroes in the daily sports page. A right of passage in those days. Games on TV were few and far between, especially Dodger games. The only televised games were those from San Francisco on KKTV channel 11.            Vin Scully and Jerry Doggett did the announcing. Doggett would do the 3rd and 7th innings, Vinny the rest….

In For Another Slow Start?

March 21, 2019

There has been a lot of discussion about the potential of a slow start this year.  I and others have pointed out how the “starters” cannot get through 5 innings before the proverbial melt down.  Both Hill and Strip went a solid 4 innings, and then came the 5th.  Hill is penciled for his final ST outing on Friday (Saturday?), while Strip is scheduled to start Sunday’s game against LAA…

My Prediction – Dodgers Minor League Starting Rotations

January 20, 2019

Well we have played GM long enough, and yet they still will not listen to us.  Now it is time to play Director of Player Development  A couple of weeks back there was a blog that posed the challenge to name the starting rotation for the OKC Dodgers.  Never let it be said that I would not accept such a challenge and I of course gave me 2 cents worth. …

Now To The NLDS

October 4, 2018

Now that the Dodgers are in the NLDS, I thought I would take a look back to see how they got here.  While I never gave up hope, I absolutely had my doubts.  I had concerns about how the team was structured, and in game management.  It became apparent that the primary focus for the front office was to get below and stay below the competitive balance tax threshold. If…

Roster Expansion

August 28, 2018

So, who is coming to help on Saturday when rosters CAN expand?  The current 40 man is filled with players on the DL.  How many of those are legit, who knows?  Well I guess FAZ does.  Another consideration might be how many of the Rule 5 eligible draftees do the Dodgers want to take a look at in September.   Current Dodger relievers on the 40 man:   Julio Urias…

Dodger Chatter: 3M – Montgomery, McKinstry, Morales

August 6, 2018

On Saturday, AC had an amazing summary of the Dodgers minor league middle infielders. Two players that were mentioned that have not drawn a lot of attention are third baseman Brandon Montgomery and shortstop Zach McKinstry. Actually their listed position is in name only as they have played at a number of positions during their minor league careers. These guys are among the many foot soldiers in minor league baseball….

Why Floro and Neal… Again?

July 5, 2018

I already see that the FAZ Bashers are up in arms over the  re-acquisitions of right-handers Dylan Floro and Zach Neal from the Reds in exchange for right-handers Aneurys Zabala and James Marinan.  Probably the most important reason is that the Dodgers also got some international bonus pool  money from the Reds, which may be the key to the deal.  I know that the bonus money can only be assigned in $250,000 increments, but as yet, I have not…

What Will FAZ Do???

April 16, 2018

This will be somewhat unusual for me, as generally I am an extremely unapologetic pro-FAZ supporter, and I still am.  But to critically examine any operation, personal biases need to be thrown out, even when it comes to the Dodgers.   Sports team owners do not get into the game for short term profits.  The big profits come when the team is sold.  For the Dodgers, the ownership group has…

Projected OKC and Tulsa Rosters

March 25, 2018

We have bandied about a potential LAD 25 man roster, so now I want to take a shot at a possible 25 man roster at OKC and Tulsa.  One thing we have learned is that FAZ really wants players who can conceivably be called to LA if needed at AAA.  At times there may be a player that has advanced quick enough to move to OKC without a real opportunity…
