Your Straight Jacket is Ready…

January 18, 2019

When the Dodgers were sold the last time, Guggenheim and Company were not my pick to be the owners, but here we are.  There’s nothing you or I can do about that. They are the owners, and they certainly have a very peculiar set of circumstances. They are under SEC investigation, defending lawsuits, their principals are using their personal wealth as security, shareholders are upset (maybe even revolting), they are…

You’ve Got to Know When To Hold ’em…

January 17, 2019

As I talk to Dodger fans or read comments around the blogsphere, it is apparent that there are three schools of thought about the Dodgers: Friedman Hater: This is the most prevelant.  Andrew Friedman won’t spend any money, he dumped payroll and won’t trade any top prospects.  The Dodgers won’t make the playoffs this year.  Wait and See:  These fans don’t have a strong opinion and believe that the Dodgers…

Different Perspectives

January 12, 2019

Editorial Note – This was written before the massive Russell Martin deal went down, and I did not want to consider this post to be like Kemp, Puig, Wood, and Farmer and just dump it.   The written word is a strange thing.  One reader will read comments one way and another reader another way, and yet the writer had a totally different reason for the comment. The most recent…

The Last Laugh

January 11, 2019

I don’t know about you, but it is my opinion that the Dodgers bullpen is not a need right about now.  They signed Machine Gun Kelley and have a plethora of options in 2019 including Therrien, Ferguson, Santana and many others.  The starting rotation is 8 deep and while it would be nice to add a Kluber or Bauer, the reality of the situation is that Cleveland has not traded…

Addition By Subtraction

January 5, 2019

No, this is not a course in the “new math.” Five out of four people struggle with math anyway. However, sometimes you can get better by deleting some pieces. You don’t always have to add pieces to get better. These pieces that you subtract may be pieces that most people view as essential, but in reality, they may not be that at all. Now, I am certain that Andrew Friedman…

Max Muncy – A Year Later

January 3, 2019

It’s been a year since I first wrote that Max Muncy should be considered the LH hitting 2B (01-02-18).  Most did not pay attention, but Max sure did take off in 2018.  At 27, Max slashed .263/.391/.582/.973 propped up by 35 HRs in 481 PA.  He has never shown that kind of power before.  The closest he came was in 2013 when he hit 21 in the California League (A+)…

The Case For Nick Castellanos

December 31, 2018

There is not a whole lot to talk about that has not already been cut, bit, chewed, swallowed and regurgitated, and probably many times over.  As we have also digested, all of us have favorite Dodgers; many who have moved on to other teams.  I think Bums is holding a spot for Joc for when he gets to the HOF.   One such Dodger fan favorite was Yasiel Puig.  Unfortunately,…

Why Do So Many Dodger Fans Hate Andrew Friedman?

December 29, 2018

If you are not of that ilk, then you will not be offended, but if you are, I have to ask… and I’d like to know: Why do you hate Andrew Friedman so much? Note:This is just not directed to LA Dodger Talk’s readers – This is across the blogosphere. You may say you don’t but that is total BULL, and you know that.  You hate him!  You’ve hated him…

What Comes Next Is Not So Simple

December 27, 2018

Before we start this discussion, let’s remember that the time between the Holidays is a real dog when it comes to the Hot Stove League, thus, these really are the Dog Days. OK, let’s look at what the Kemp-Puig-Wood-Farmer trade produced.  The Dodgers sent Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood, Kyle Farmer and $7 million Dollars to the Reds for Homer Bailey and two nice prospects. Very simply, the Dodger…

I Think I Will Miss You Most of All, Alex Wood

December 23, 2018

My apologies to the Wizard of Oz line, but it seems appropriate for me at this time.  Please indulge me with a tribute to one of my all-time favorite Dodgers, Alex Wood.  I do not know why I grew an attachment to Alex Wood.  He has been someone I have followed since his rookie year, wishing that he could somehow find his way to the Dodgers.  That was kind of…
