It’s Time to Let the Kids Play

November 25, 2022

Bluntly stated: “If you have one of the best farm systems in baseball, it is Felony Stupid to waste it.” We have repeatedly seen that buying expensive free agents is no guarantee of anything. Baseball executives are becoming painfully aware that youth and energy, and enthusiasm are really valuable things. I am not saying that age and experience are not necessary, but successful organizations need to blend them together. Andrew…

It’s Trade Season!

July 18, 2022

Let me start off by saying that I really don’t like to throw out trade proposals or enjoy reading them.  Usually, people want to trade for an All-Star by giving up the bottom feeders of the prospect lists or a slumping pro.  With that said, let’s go ahead and take a stab at it… The All-Star Game is the unofficial start of the trade season for me.  Jeff Samardzija was…

Remember, These Games Mean Nothing…

March 20, 2022

Squat, Zilch, Nada. For guys like Tomas Tellis, Andy Burns, Eddy Alvarez, Jason Martin, and Stefan Romero, this is like a playoff game. They know that they have no chance… but who knows – it feels like it might (this is their thinking), so they are all in. In reality, they are “organizational depth.” They will be parked at AAA, just in case of a disaster. These are “salt of…

Jason Martin – Could He Be the Next???

December 31, 2021

Could Jason Martin be the next Max Muncy, CT3 or Justin Turner?  There is no reason to believe that he could but also no reason to expect that he could not. Martin, like JT, is a California boy who was born in Corona and attended Orange Lutheran High School in Orange which is just 32 miles from Los Angeles. Like Muncy he bats left but not with the power at…

Stealing From Theo…If Not Now, When?

January 4, 2020

It is time for a little Devil’s Advocacy.  I have been an unapologetic fan of Andrew Friedman and what he has accomplished, and just as critical as to what he has NOT accomplished.  I was critical when AF did not beat out the Astros offer for Gerrit Cole before the 2018 season.  The Astros traded a #5 SP in Joe Musgrove, a decent but unceremonious 3B, Colin Moran, a RHRP…

Dustin May and Clayton Kershaw

April 27, 2019

I wanted Chris Sale at the 2016 trade deadline when he was burning bridges with the ChiSox. I cannot fault management because he was not traded until the Winter, and I have no idea as to who Chicago was demanding. We can speculate all we want, but nobody here knows. I was a strong advocate for Justin Verlander at the 2017 trade deadline, but understood why the Dodgers did not…

What Will FAZ Do???

April 16, 2018

This will be somewhat unusual for me, as generally I am an extremely unapologetic pro-FAZ supporter, and I still am.  But to critically examine any operation, personal biases need to be thrown out, even when it comes to the Dodgers.   Sports team owners do not get into the game for short term profits.  The big profits come when the team is sold.  For the Dodgers, the ownership group has…

First Week Observations

April 6, 2018

Some first week observations:  It is obvious that the Dodgers offense misses JT; the one clutch hitter in the lineup.  The only offense thus far is Yasmani Grandal.  Without any concrete evidence, it is my opinion that the Owings HR off of Jansen with two outs in the 9th on the Monday game against the DBacks had a negative impact on the Tuesday and Wednesday games.   The Dodgers have…
