Reliever Statistics and Minor League Report

April 19, 2018

With all of the statistics discussion yesterday, and much of it directed to relief pitching, I thought that I would gather some Dodger relief pitching comparisons, keying on inherited runners and inherited runners scored. See table below.  With the recall of Adam Liberatore, the Dodgers have now used 10 relief pitchers.  6 of those relief pitchers have entered into the games and have inherited runners.  On 13 different occasions, 20…

First Week Observations

April 6, 2018

Some first week observations:  It is obvious that the Dodgers offense misses JT; the one clutch hitter in the lineup.  The only offense thus far is Yasmani Grandal.  Without any concrete evidence, it is my opinion that the Owings HR off of Jansen with two outs in the 9th on the Monday game against the DBacks had a negative impact on the Tuesday and Wednesday games.   The Dodgers have…

Dodger Minor League Playoff Opportunities

August 23, 2017

We all know that the Dodgers are in the process of finishing the regular season with home field advantage throughout the playoffs, but many of the minor league teams are also in playoff contention. 6 of the 8 teams have legitimate playoff hopes, and two are almost certain.   AAA – OKC Dodgers – This is one of the teams that playoff hopes are quickly slipping away. They find themselves 9…

Last Monday when the Dodgers acquired Yu Darvish, Tony Watson, and Tony Cingrani, the Dodgers traded four players from their top 30 prospect list; Willie Calhoun, Brendon Davis, AJ Alexy, and Oneil Cruz.  That opened the door for four new members of the Dodgers top 30.  Jacob Rhame returned to the top 30 and #is now listed at #28.  Three new members of the top 30 are: #27         Cristian Santana…

Back To The Future II

Well my original draft was entitled Back To The Future, so with this redraft, I will call it Back To The Future II.  I will continue where I left off in yesterday’s post. Maybe the future lies further down the organizational ladder.  Even most minor league followers dismiss the Dominican Summer League (DSL), where the Mexican, Caribbean, South American ball players get their start. They begin to get acclimated to…

June 5, 2017

There has been a lot of discussion about the state of the Cuban players the Dodgers signed in 2015. It has been nearly two years since the Dodgers embarked on a $43,874,000 spending spree on 11 international players, but only three are Cuban.  There were also five from the Dominican Republic, one from Venezuela, and one from Nicaragua.  Eight of the players are still remain in the organization with 7…

2016 LAD 5th Round Draft Choice Devin Smeltzer

May 29, 2017

Tim and Christina Smelzer were looking at a picture of their ten year old son, Devin, with Cole Hamels.  But this was not an ordinary picture.  This was a picture of a young boy with no hair due to chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatments treating his cancer.  After taking too many trips to the bathroom to urinate, Devin was diagnosed on multiple occasions with a urinary tract infection.  However a…
