It is always beyond good to go into Milwaukee and take two of three. The Brewers are a good team. Their stadium is loud. Their bullpen is excellent. And we still beat them on Friday and Sunday.
Three things stood out:
- The bullpen looked like the bullpen we were promised in February. Vesia, Treinen, Phillips — five appearances, one earned run, eight strikeouts.
- Mookie is locked in. 7-for-13 in the series with two doubles and a homer. He is hitting .337 since May 1.
- The bench is helping. Two of our four wins this homestand came on pinch-hit RBIs.
Now: the bad news. We are 10 games into a 14-game stretch against playoff teams, and we have used three starters on three days' rest. Glasnow needs to come back healthy. May needs to come back, period. And we need Buehler to stop nibbling — there is no such thing as a 1-2 walk in May that doesn't cost you a game in October.
But on a Sunday afternoon, with a flight home and a series with the Rockies on deck? It is a great day to be a Dodger fan.
