I did this interview a couple of weeks ago with Chef Mike, who runs the Dodgers Food Trailer for the Great Lakes Loons. They are there for every home and road regular season and playoff game. They prepare three meals a day for approximately 50 people (players and coaches). Since games end late most evenings, they do not prepare breakfast. Many of their hotels have a complimentary breakfast anyway. However, they do provide a nutritious, balanced, athletic diet for Lunch, Pre-Game Snacks, and Dinner after the game.
For the 2026 season, minor-league players receive $32.50 per day in road-trip per diem. It applies to each day they are traveling with their club during the regular season or postseason. In addition, teams must provide two nutritious meals each day the player reports for a game or workout, including both home and road games: one before and one afterward, plus clubhouse snacks.
So, in practical terms:
Road games: two team-provided meals plus $32.50 cash per day.
Home games: two team-provided meals, but generally no daily cash per diem.
Obviously, there are two problems here:
- Some players might choose to drink their per diem; and
- Some foreign-born players send their per diem home to their parents.
The Dodgers solved both problems by providing the meals to the players. They have food trailers at all four levels to ensure their minor leaguers receive both athletic training and high nutrition. Here’s the video interview:

As Mark posted, RIP Ron Hunt who played for LA for one year. He and Jim Hickman were the return from the Mets for Tommy Davis and Derrell Griffith. The following year, he was traded to the Giants along with Nate Oliver for a minor league pitcher and Tom Haller. It is one of the few deals made with the team from up north. Hunt finished 2nd to Pete Rose in the 1963 ROY voting. He was 85 years old. MLB is really pushing for a cap. On the game tonight there were at least 3 ads touting the fact that MLB was listening to what a majority of fans want. They claim 79% of the fans want a cap and a floor. I think it is 79 % of the fans they might have polled. Anyway, the ads act like the cap is a done deal, and we all know that the MLBPA is not going to ever agree to a cap. The Dodgers open the 27 season, if there is one, on March 25th at Dodger Stadium against the Braves. They have Friday off and resume the series on Saturday, then the Twins come in for 3 on the 29th. They then go on the road for 10 games, four in Colorado, three in Arizona and three in San Diego. The get Monday off then play three against the Rockies again and three against the Cubs before going on the road to Phillie and DC.
Very nice work by Sasaki. Maybe he has turned a corner, we can all hope. Sloppy play by Pages and Rushing allowed the Yanks to score. Max dialing long distance against Cole was sweet. Both Pages and Rushing redeemed themselves on that play at the plate.

Since the Mets announced that they are willing to trade everyone except five players, Soto is one of them, there are two guys who pique my interest. One is Luke Weaver, the former Yankee closer, and the other is C Francisco Alvarez who is just 25 years old. Guys like Bichette and Lindor with their large contracts just don't move the needle. But a guy like Weaver would really solidify an already packed bullpen. Arizona, and the Padres both lost so the Dodgers have a 12.5 game lead over Arizona and 13.5 over the Sadres. Colorado is now 23.5 games back. The Giants won their third in a row.
New format is fantastic, Mark. Thanx. And what about that starting pitcher for the Dodgers last night ? Who was he ? 102mph with pin point command and devastating secondary pitches. Smith has played 52 games this season and has been the team’s primary catcher since 2021. He is slashing .249/.338/.382 with six home runs, 23 runs batted in, and an OPS of .720.
