Dodgers Vs NL Opponents All-Time Records

Last week when the Dodgers faced the Giants, their all-time record against each other was tied at 1,288-1,288. What you did not see were the 17 ties that they have had. So, I thought it would be interesting to see how they have fared against the teams in the National League.

Arizona: The Diamondbacks joined MLB in 1996. Since then, they have played 478 games against each other, not counting this season. LA holds a 273-205 edge. They have played 6 playoff games, with each team winning 3. At Chase Field, LA is 130-113. At Dodger Stadium LA is 143-92. This season, LA is 3-0 against the Snakes.

Atlanta-Milwauke-Boston Braves: Dodgers are 1,215-1,044 with 22 ties. Atlanta entered the league in 1876 as the Boston Beaneaters. They moved to Milwaukee in 1953 and stayed there just 13 years before moving to Atlanta. They were part of the NL West from 1969-94. They have been in the NL East ever since. They have met five times in the playoffs, with the Braves winning the first one in 1996, losing the next three and then winning in 21. LA is 231-154 against the Braves at Dodger Stadium. They are 13-8 at Truist Field. LA is 12-12 against the Braves, but if you count the last 2 games of 1959 as playoff games, they are 14-12.

Chicago Cubs: The Cubbies also joined the league in 1876 as the Chicago White Stockings. During their long tenure in the league, the Dodgers are 1,075-1,078-14 against Chicago. They have a losing record at Wrigley, 419-434 and are 184-138 against the Cubs at Dodger Stadium. They are 1-1 this season so far, but the Cubs have handled the Dodgers the last two seasons, 7-5. LA has met the Cubs in the playoffs three times, winning twice for a 9-5 record.

Cincinnati Reds: The Reds are one of the original baseball teams. For years, the first game of the season would be played in Cincinnati. Like seven other teams, they were part of the original NL in 1890. The Dodgers are 1.211-1,164-13 all-time against the Reds. They have met just twice in the playoffs, each team winning a series by sweeping the other for a 2-3 record against them in the playoffs.

Colorado Rockies: The Rockies joined MLB and the NL West in 1996. In that time, the Rockies have bested the Dodgers in the season series just 5 times. They have never won the West. Their lone World Series appearance in 2007 came as a Wild Card team. They finished second in 2018 after losing game 163 to the Dodgers. LA is 329-214 all-time vs the Rocks. 139-116 at Coors, 171-90 in LA. This season they are 2-2. They have never met in the playoffs.

Miami Marlins: Miami joined the NL East in 1993 as the Florida Marlins and remained that until 2011. Overall, the Dodgers are 132-101 against them. Marlins Park is relatively new with LA going 22-17 there. They are 64-46 in LA and have never met in the playoffs. The Marlins have played LA tough no matter how good or bad the team has been. Seven times they have taken the season series from LA.

Milwaukee Brewers: From 1969-97, the Brewers, who for one season, 1969, were the Seattle Pilots, were in the American League. First the AL West until 72 when they went to the AL East and then to the AL Central in 1994. When MLB realigned in 1998, the Brewers moved to the NL with Houston moving to the AL. All-time LA is 100-77 against the Brew-Crew. 40-33 at Miller and 48-36 at Dodger Stadium. LA was 12-8 against them at old County Stadium. They have met three times in the playoffs with LA winning all three, advancing to the World Series in 2017 after an exciting 4-3 series win, and again in 25 after sweeping them in the NLCS. They met in the 2020 Wild Card series too.

New York Mets: The Mets joined MLB in 1962. They were pretty bad their first few seasons losing 100 games or more five times in their first six seasons. They have become a much better team over the years and have 2 Championships and 5 pennants under their belt. The Dodgers overall have dominated the Mets with a 366-284-1 record. They have met four times in the playoffs. Both teams won twice, LA in 88 and 2024, the Mets in the LDS in 06 and 2015. They are 10-11 against NY in playoff games. LA is 194-134 at home, and 31-15 at Citi Field. They were evenly matched at Shea with LA holding a 141-135 edge.

Philadelphia Phillies: The Phillies were on of the NL’s original 8 teams. For most of their early existence, they were the doormat in the NL. They got to their first World Series in 1915. They lost. They did not go again until the Whiz Kids team of 1950. They lost again. They won their first one in 1980. Against the Dodgers, they have a 1,091-941-14 deficit. The Dodgers are 182-146 against them in LA, and 32-32 at Citizen’s Bank Park. They have met six times in the playoffs, with each team winning three. Dodgers won the 77-78 LCS by 3-1 in each series. In 83, 08, 09, the Dodgers lost each series winning just 1 game in each and losing 11 games total. They beat the Phillies last year in the LDS 3-1.

PittsBurgh Pirates: Another of the original eight. The Pirates have lost over 2,000 games in their tenure in the NL. PNC Park is their third modern day home. Old Forbes Field, and then Three Rivers were their previous homes. All-time the Dodgers are 1,165-1,020-13 against the Bucs. They are 199-124 in LA and 47-33 at PNC. They met once in the playoffs in 1974 in the LCS. LA won 3-1.

St. Louis Cardinals: Another original eight team, and the only team besides the Giants, who are now 1 game up on LA, with a winning record against the Dodgers. LA is 1,086-1,113-16 against the Redbirds. LA has a losing record at the new Busch, 25-35, and are 1163-152 at Dodger Stadium. In the playoffs, the Redbirds have won four of their six meetings, 85, 04, 13, 14. LA won in 09 and 2021. Their combined playoff record against the Birds is 10-14. Cardinals also beat Brooklyn in a 2-game playoff in 1946.

San Francisco Giants: Originally in New York, they moved to California along with the Dodgers in 1958. They brought their rivalry with them. They have battled each other pretty evenly over the years as the 1 game edge for the Giants is because of their 2-1 series win last week. Overall LA has a 302-242 edge in LA and a 111-106 edge in SF. They met just once in the playoff in 21 when LA won 3-2. In 1962, the Dodgers lost a three-game playoff to the Giants, and had the same thing happen in 1951.

San Diego Padres: Padres joined the NL West in 1969 and were the leagues doormat until 1984 when they won the pennant, led by exe-Dodger, Steve Garvey. So far, that is their only trip to the series. Over the years LA has compiled a 532-431-1 record over the Friars. 281-198 in LA and 103-77 at Petco. They have met 3 times in the playoffs with LA winning twice. SD won the 2022 LDS 3-1.

Washington Nationals: Originally the Montreal Expos, they joined the league in 1969. Over the years, they have 6 appearances in the playoffs, one pennant and one World Series win in 2019. The Dodgers against the combined franchise are 304-211. In LA they are 165-88 and 30-19 at Nationals Park. They were 105-104 in Montreal. They have met three times in the playoffs, once as the Expos, and twice as the Nationals. LA beat Montreal 3-2 in 1981, then beat the Nats 3-2 in 2016. Nats won in 2019 when they also won their only World Series.

Overview: The Dodgers longtime rivals, the Giants, have not fared well since 2021, when they won 107 games and edged the Dodgers by one game in the West. They have not been to the World Series since 2014 when they won their third in five years. They have basically been replaced as Dodger enemy number one by the Padres. Dodger fans for the most part despise the team from down south. Especially since Manny Machado joined the team. With a hot start to this season by both teams, that rivalry it seems will be even more heightened this season. Hopefully, the Dodgers can handle the Padres and get their threepeat.
