- This is not the first time Tyler Glasnow has had cramps. He has a big body, and maybe he should drink more electrolytes. Easy, Peasy!
- If Roberts “overmanaged” on Saturday, then he “double-overmanaged” on Sunday, but when the pitchers deliver, it’s not overmanaging. Six relievers, and they all did their jobs. Saturday, one did not do his job… and Roberts is an idiot? I think not!
- Evan Phillips is filthy again!
- Tanner Scott is as advertised.
- Phillips and Scott are best buds.
- Jack Dreyer is the real deal. He’s a keeper. Banda is on the bubble.
- Mookie Betts doesn’t look like he ever played the outfield. He’s a born SS.
- Gavin Lux – LF (.319 BA/.818 OPS) – Who was that moron who said he should play LF?
- Luis Robert, Jr. and Miguel Vargas – Who is worse? It’s close. If you add their batting averages together, they are hitting .301.
- Jacob Amaya is hitting less than half his weight! .095! YIKES!
- The White Sox, Marlins, Pirates, & Rockies owners should be forced to sell their teams.
- Landon Knack gave up one run in 5 innings vs. Arizona last year. He gave up one run in 4.2 IP against the Giants and later gave up one run in 5 IP against the Giants. He gave up two runs against Cleveland in six innings. He doesn’t just pitch well against bad teams. He is learning to pitch in the MLB, and he’s A #5.
- I have never trusted Kirby Yates. Don’t let him close, and he’s an asset. It’s not IF you give up hits – It’s “WHEN!” Kirby Yates was a very good closer on a sub-500 team in 2024 (.481 winning %). He came to the Dodgers because he had never really been part of a winning team. That’s admirable. Just don’t let him close. His best split doesn’t split when times get tight.
- DePaula- .974 OPS
- Hope – 1.087 OPS
- George – .812 OPS
- Sirota – .996 OPS

Assuming Kopech, Bazooka, and phillips are healthy,(Evan seems fine)., Yates can be part of a “MONSTER “ pen! Trienan sounds vdone to me, although i hope i’m wrong. Garcia is not for long on the dodgers. I thought all 3 starters pitched well in texas! Glasnow just had some cramping issues. If Snell comes back soon, and Gonsolin gets back as well, not to mention Clayton, the rotation is the best in the majors! i’m still concerned about the offense! Barnes had a hit ! his second of the season. Conforto thru 9? not too good! Bringing another .200 hitter ( Robert) doesn’t sound like the cure!
Robert is a .150 Hitter!
Unless he’s “hitting” from the Manager’s seat. Then he’s a .627 “hitter”.
I know Dave makes mistakes sometimes. Has there EVER been a baseball manager who didn’t? But I think he’s done extremely well for the Dodgers and I truly think he has gotten better year over year from his first season to now.
The offense will be fine:
Superstars: Ohtani, Betts, Freeman
All-Stars: Smith & Edman
Savvy Vets: Teo, Muncy, Conforto
Youth: Pages
Good on Brent Honeywell!
Honeywell is still a free agent, right? Did I miss something?
Glad he’s getting his ring. Wouldn’t mind seeing him in Dodger blue again.
Correct call on Will Smith as hero.
Yes. The nice thing about giving a starter a “day off” is that he still might wind up being the star.
I remember which moron repeatedly said Lux should play CENTER field–even though he lacked the arm to play SS.
Nice to see Lux playing well. The Dodgers’ brain trust concluded that a guy they envisioned as their SS was best used in a platoon at 2B. Lux was tested for more of a UT role and found wanting. He is better off getting his fresh start with the Reds–and maybe Mike Sirota will be the Dodgers’ centerfielder someday.
It will be interesting to see how Lux and Conforto compare as the season rolls on….
Luis Robert remains intriguing. His stats may be Miguelito-esque at the moment, but he proved his talent in ’23. Like Lux, he may need a fresh start. And he’d helped the Dodgers get younger.
Here’s a ’26 lineup with a youthful makeover….
Shohei DH
Mookie SS
Freddie 1B
Teo RF
Smith/Rushing C
Edman LF
Robert CF
Freeland 3B
Kim 2B
I don’t think the issue with Luis Robert is his ability as much as has it is his (so far) inability to avoid injuries.
There’s also the issue of his impending free agency and he’ll likely expect to get a LOT of money. I only like him for the Dodgers for a reasonable rental trade “price” and because he will be working to build impressive “platform” stats. I’d LOVE to see Julio Rodriquez in CF instead. Anyone know his rep as a clubhouse guy?
I like Julio Rodriguez a lot. Not sure about his clubhouse rep. Would the Mariners put him on the market?
The pursuit of either Robert or Rodriguez would be a “big swing” for a premium talent–even if that talent is struggling. These deals would be “go big or go home” gambles.
A more conservative but safer target would be a guy like the O’s Cedric Mullins.
One reason I mention Mullins is that the O’s desperately need pitching. While the division rival Red Sox added Crochet and Buehler (who just had a great game), and the Yankees added Max Fried, the O’s replaced Burnes with nothing really special. Charlie Morton, age 41, was the starter in that recent 24-2 decable on Easter Sunday at Camden Yards. If I was an O’s fan, I’d be pissed and demanding action.
If Mullins lacks sufficient appeal, the Orioles have a few prospects that might look good in blue.
Duke,
Can’t agree with you more. My friend is a diehard O’s fan and is so desperate for pitching. They have a lot of talent on the farm and maybe we could give them Bobby Miller and Knack, plus a few others for a few of their blue chip fielders, we could clear the log jam and get some future stock. I think we have enough talent to win right now. My first baseball memory was watching Snider climb the wall at Ebbets to snag a fly out. Been a dodger fan since. Thanks for keeping us updated.
I think Robert is under contract for this season and next at $20 million per.
That seemed like a “team friendly” contract before he stopped hitting. Now we have to wonder whether the White Sox have given up on him and just want to dump his salary. (Perhaps something between the two)
The Dodgers may have already done their due diligence and concluded Robert isn’t worth the risk. Or maybe AF’s team is formulating an offer.
Roberts’ contract is a team option. If the Sox decline, he will be a free agent. It is for 20 million and there are two option years left.
Thanks for the clarification, Bear.
Condolences to the Catholic’s among you on the passing of the Pope. A win is a win no matter how close the game is. Smith is one of my favorite players on this team. More Sac flies than any other player in the last several years and lots of clutch hits too. Much better at it than Grandal. LOL. Saw a blurb on Yahoo sports saying the White Sox are interested in Outman. At this point, I do not see a Sox player I would be interested in a trade for Outman. Arraez injured in a collision during the Pads win yesterday. Angels won the series with the Giants 2-1.
Grandal was the best catcher the Dodgers ever had.
WHAT!!!!
LOL!
Every now and then when I’m bored I like trying to get a rise out of Bear.
Missed the mark Patch. I added the LOL first. Grandal is with the Red Sox now. Arraez placed on the 7-day concussion IL by the Padres. Lux and the Reds dropped 24 on the Orioles yesterday. Lux was on base 5 times with 2 hits and 3 walks. He scored 4 times. He is hitting .318 and has a .818 OPS. So far, the Reds winning this trade.
You shall not pass!
Although a baseball is hardly a Balrog, unfortunately for Grandal, he tended to let quite a few things pass while behind the plate, especially during key moments of the playoffs.
Banda is definitely NOT on the bubble. He is out of options and can’t be sent to the minors, has a rubber arm and can basically pitch every day which is extremely valuable, and was dependable in the playoffs last year (3-0, 1.13 ERA). He’s also been pretty solid this year (let’s not overreact because he has an ERA of 4 in 9IP. . I don’t see any way he’s not a part of this bullpen barring injury.
Doc likes him as his first in guy, he does ok at that.
Agree
Glasnow (lower leg) is expected to make his next start Sunday versus the Pirates, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
Good outing by Buehler today.
That’s one guy I wish we brought back….maybe in July…..
Won’t happen. Buehler is going to stay with the Sox. Dodgers will use the pitchers they have, AF does not want to have to trade for help at the deadline. Kersh and Gonsolin ready soon, Snell back very soon.
You really believe he will make NO moves? When has that EVER happened? There will be moves made….Book IT.
Hes on a one year deal and Sawks will be well out of it by then. Would not be shocked to see him back in Dodger blue….
He might have to, but we will have to wait until the end of July to find out. As for Buehler, starting pitching is not a need for this team. A more productive bottom of the lineup, and more production from two outfield positions. Boston has a good team; they are in second place right now. I don’t think you are giving them enough credit. They have good pitching, decent defense and their offense is batting close to 20 points higher than the Dodgers. Believe it or not, they are the only team in the AL with more than 200 hits right now.
By bringing in Buehler and Crochet and Bregman, the Red Sox are looking tough. Devers seem to enjoying the DH role and Trevor Story is playing well again. That lineup is so good that the game’s top prospect, Roman Anthony, has to bide his time for an opportunity.
If the pitching hold up, we could see a Dodger-Red Sox WS.
Buehler will Not be a Dodger in 2025 because the Red Sox will in the playoffs. Bet it!!!
Now THATS funny…
It’s way early, but if one is so inclined they will find I predicted that the Lux trade will not age well. I realize the return has looked good so far but we gave up on Lux to early in my unprofessional opinion.
Gotta see how it plays out.
I think Kim is going to help this team.
Only two years of club control left. Not hitting for power. We only trusted him at 2b.
Lux is doing well. Micheal Busch is raking. And actually, Zach McKinstry is quietly having a really good year at 3rd base for Detroit.
I was sorry to see Lux go, but not sure there is a winner or loser in that trade yet.
Fun fact: Miguel Vargas is putting up solid defensive numbers at 3rd base for the Sox. The knock on him as a prospect is that he couldn’t play D anywhere. His D is ok. He can’t hit his way out of a bag.
Another ex-Dodger doing well: Kyle Farmer with the Rockies
Keibert’s doing well this year, too.
Always liked him.
Connor Wong too.
No review of former Dodgers is complete without an update on Travis d’Arnaud….
Where is tonight’s game being broadcast?
No game tonight, they play in Chicago for two days starting tomorrow. No affiliates playing either.
Oops- no game today. SAT!
AF never said he wouldn’t be a player come the trade deadline. He said he didn’t want to be a buyer but maybe a seller is his intent. Let the teams hungry for pitching overpay for our tradable pitching depth. We are deep enough to not overpay for a rental at the deadline. AF could be looking to add to our plethora of top tier young talent. We shall see.

The game my wife and I saw in OKC last Thursday against Tacoma, Drew Pomeranz came in and threw the ninth against the Coments. I thought he looked sharped. I remember him from some time ago. I saw that today the Cubs traded for him. Just throwing it out there.
I thought Lux was ideal for hitting 9th for the Dodgers.
Only against righties…
I suppose we could say trading Lux was a bad move IF Kim doesn’t develop and can’t hit MLB pitching.
As good as Edman is, and I love him as a player, he can’t play both CF and 2nd base at the same time.
Pages is not a CF, and if Edman plays CF, Rojas/Kike/CT3 can’t hit.
The Dodgers are having issues again with the bottom of the lineup not producing (like the same time last year). Lux’s bat in the bottom half of the order would be nice right about now. It would allow Edman to play CF full time and platoon Pages and Conforto.
If Kim can at least get on base at a decent clip, his GG defense at 2nd with Edman’s D in CF, could really shore up the middle.
Just noticed that Mark overlooked an owner who should sell his team…
Arte Moreno.
Love seeing Busch, Lux and McKinstry doing good. We are getting old and replacing Max, Barnes Miggy, Kike and Taylor should happen soon. Also, we are wearing out the bullpen. Nothing will be left for the playoffs. We do the same thing with smith every year!
From the Dodger’s Official Page:
RHP Blake Treinen
Injury: Right forearm sprain
IL date: April 19 (15-day IL)
Expected return: TBD
Status: Imaging revealed a low-grade sprain; manager Dave Roberts expects Treinen to only need rest and rehab for now, but he’ll be evaluated further. (updated April 20)
1. Muncy, Barnes, Rojas, Keekay & Taylor are certainly toward the ends of their Dodger tenured. We decided to opt in to Barnes and Rojas so we clearly value their veteran contributions. Muncy is still a big league 3B, Keekay we had to run it back, and Taylor’s nearing his expiration date.
2. I agree about the bullpen but the goal is to rotate in a lit of fresh arms throughout the year, either injury returns [Gonsolin. Graterol, etc ] or prospects [Frasso].
3. We should know how to approach the playoffs this year. Watch for about one month out, when everything we do seems aimed at October.
Agree with these takes, especially #3.
People need to stop freaking out about Roberts burning out the bullpen. There’s going to be churn on the pitching staff, and a lot of rotating in and out. The point is to have have your A team ready and healthy in October.
Good news about Treinen. Keep him on ice as long as you need to, even if he’s not ready till after the ASB
I hate putting Miggy on the discard list since he is a good fielder and huge clubhouse presence. Just hope he gets the same offer Crash Davis got at the end of Bull Durham. Would make a great bench/infield coach. We have to bring up the stud catcher and a replacement for Max so we can groom them. Even Feduccia’s I left handed bat would be a nice relief against tough RH pitchers for Smitty..
The reason the Dodgers traded Lux was
#1 – He was never going to hit LHP, so he was a platoon 2B or LF
#2 – This is the main reason: The Dodgers really like Mike Sirota.
We shall see if that shakes out.
Sirota is hitting .343 with a .996 OPS at RC.
Let’s see what happens when he moves up to RC.
I was surprised they traded Lux, mainly because he’ was only one year removed from a very serious injury, and I would have expected a stronger showing from him in 25 than 24. The return seemed slightly underwhelming to me.
I am also confident Kyle Tucker will be playing RF for the Dodgers in 26 and beyond.
I would love to see Tucker there.
CT3, Kike, MiggyRo, Comforto, and Barnes all come off the books next year.
That leaves about $30 Mil for Tuck.
There’s a back story behind the Lux trade. I think I know what it is, but am not sure. I may find out….
Did Lux like the nightlife a little too much?
I think this topic came up here before.
AF puts a lot of value into character. Maybe he got a little greedy and whiffed on Bauer, but still, it’s something the organization values.
Anyone here remember the discussion about Tim Anderson being the Dodgers SS a few years ago?
“Oh sure, he’s a bit of an erratic hot head, but that’s just his competitive spirit. He just wants to win.”
His career totally imploded, mostly because he’s a head case.
Alex Verdugo is another. Would you want either Marcus Stedman or Jazz Chisholm on a team you run?
Apparently, Miggy Ro and Jazz did not get along in Miami.
…
If there’s anything to Lux having maturity issues, then I’m more comfortable with him being gone
You are getting warm!
Teo’s best spot is RF, you expect him to move back to left where he said he was not really comfortable? They are probably saving left field for Rushing, when he isn’t backing up Smith. Tucker is a very good player, but I am betting the Cubs make a real push to sign him long term. They have to make room for their young players sometime, and with all those salaries coming off of the books next season, it makes sense that Rushing and Freeland will be given every opportunity to succeed during spring training. This team is old. It needs some youth.
Teo could easily move back to LF if needed.
I’ve been thinking of Pages in RF for years but I no longer do.
De Paula will probably be long-term answer.
He could, I doubt he will. LF is the easiest position.
Mike Sirota, acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers from the Cincinnati Reds in a January 2025 trade for Gavin Lux, is a 21-year-old outfield prospect with a promising five-tool skill set. Drafted by the Reds in the third round (87th overall) of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Northeastern University, Sirota was previously selected by the Dodgers in the 16th round in 2021 but opted for college. He has not yet made his professional debut, with an expected start at Class A in 2025. Below is a detailed scouting report based on available information:
Physical Profile and Background:
Size: 6-foot-3, 188-190 pounds, lean and athletic with room to add strength.
Bats/Throws: Right/Right.
Notable: Grandnephew of Hall of Fame pitcher Whitey Ford, who influenced his development. Sirota hails from Broad Channel, NY, and set Northeastern records for single-season runs (73 in 2023) and walks (59 in 2024).
Scouting Grades (MLB Pipeline, 20-80 scale):
Hit: 50 (Average)
Power: 45 (Below-Average)
Run: 60 (Plus)
Arm: 55 (Above-Average)
Field: 55 (Above-Average)
Overall: 50 (Average)
Hitting and Approach:
Sirota possesses plus bat speed and excellent bat-to-ball skills, giving him a solid foundation for contact hitting. His swing is simple with minimal moving parts, aiding consistency.
In college, he slashed .324/.457/.576 over 143 games, with 29 home runs and 111 RBIs, showcasing a patient approach (120 walks vs. 126 strikeouts). His 17.5% career walk rate and strong swing decisions (ranked 2nd among 2024 draft-eligible hitters in swing-decision metrics) highlight his plate discipline.
His standout 2023 sophomore season (.346/.472/.678, 18 HRs) marked him as a potential first-round pick, but a 2024 junior season dip (.298/.473/.513, 7 HRs) due to timing issues and struggles with middle-in pitches dropped him to the third round. Scouts believe his batted-ball data (consistent exit velocities) and approach suggest he can rebound.
He projects as a potential 20-20 player (20 HRs, 20 SBs) if he taps into his raw power, though his current profile leans more toward contact than power.
Power:
Sirota has raw power potential, evidenced by 18 homers as a sophomore, but his level swing path and 2024 struggles (7 HRs) indicate he’s not yet fully accessing it. Adding physicality could unlock more power.
His power is considered a work in progress, with a ceiling of average power if he refines his ability to square up pitches consistently.
Speed and Baserunning:
A plus runner (60-grade speed), Sirota is a threat on the bases, stealing 48 bases in 57 attempts in college, including 19 in 2024. His speed enhances his 20-20 potential and defensive range.
Defense:
Sirota projects as a long-term center fielder with above-average defensive skills (55-grade). He reads balls well off the bat, takes efficient routes, and has a tick-above-average arm (55-grade), suitable for all outfield positions.
His speed and athleticism allow him to cover ground effectively, with some scouts noting he could be a plus defender in center with further refinement.
Intangibles and Makeup:
Praised for his mental fortitude and ability to separate performance from process, Sirota handled intense scrutiny in 2024 maturely despite high expectations.
His work ethic and baseball pedigree (influenced by Whitey Ford) give scouts confidence in his ability to develop and overcome his 2024 struggles.
Performance and Context:
College Stats:
2023 (Sophomore): .346/.472/.678, 18 HRs, 54 RBIs, 19 SBs, 55 games.
2024 (Junior): .298/.473/.513, 7 HRs, 47 RBIs, 19 SBs, 51 games.
Career: .324/.457/.576, 29 HRs, 111 RBIs, 48 SBs.
Cape Cod League (2023): Hit .276 with 16 RBIs in 33 games, showing his approach holds up against better competition.
2024 Draft: Ranked No. 50 prospect by MLB Pipeline, No. 70 by Baseball America. Signed for $863,300.
Early Professional Performance (2025): In his first seven games with the Dodgers’ High-A affiliate (Rancho Cucamonga Quakes), Sirota hit .393/.452/.643 with five doubles, a triple, and five RBIs, indicating a strong start.
Future Outlook:
Ceiling: Fringe All-Star center fielder with 20-20 offensive potential, plus speed, and above-average defense. His ability to rediscover consistency部分: Floor: Fourth outfielder with solid defensive skills and average hitting ability.
Development Path: Sirota’s lack of professional experience means he’ll likely start at High-A (Great Lakes Loons) or Double-A (Tulsa Drillers) in 2025. His ability to regain consistency at the plate and add power will determine his trajectory.
ETA: Projected to reach the majors by 2027, ranked as the Dodgers’ No. 22 prospect (previously No. 14 in the Reds’ system).
Risks: Needs to address 2024 struggles with middle-in pitches and improve power output. The jump to professional pitching will test his swing decisions and contact skills.
Dodgers’ Perspective:
The Dodgers, who targeted Sirota since 2021, see him as a high-upside prospect with first-round potential if he regains his 2023 form. His right-handed bat and versatility complement their outfield depth, and the additional 2025 Competitive Balance Round A pick (No. 37, ~$2.5M slot value) enhances their draft flexibility.
Summary:
Mike Sirota is a high-ceiling, toolsy outfielder with plus speed, above-average defense, and a contact-oriented approach with latent power potential. His 2024 college struggles lowered his draft stock, but his underlying metrics, plate discipline, and athleticism suggest he could develop into a starting center fielder with 20-20 upside. For the Dodgers, he represents a buy-low opportunity with a chance to become a significant contributor by 2027, provided he adapts to professional pitching and refines his offensive game.

Wow! Nice briefing Patch. This kid looks as good as any other prospect we have. Maybe the power will come when he fills out, but 20/20 would keep him up in the show. I was wondering why everyone was so high on this kid. Should be room for him in 27.
AI (Grok 3 in this case) feels like cheating. It’s such a powerful tool.
By the time the trading deadline comes Taylor’s contract will be minimal. I hope he starts hitting and he’s worth keeping but at deadline might make sense to open up the roster spot if the spot is needed.
Works well for stuff like this…
I’ve read that Sirota’s progress had stalled some months ago due to an illness. But he recovered and added muscle in preparation of this season.
Among the young OF prospects, including Hope and George, Sirota seems to have the “truest” profile for CF. Hope has a higher ceiling but may be better suited for a corner.
Bobby Miller pitching for Oklahoma City tonight, if anyone cares.
Miller is too talented and young to give up on. I predict he will have an impact for the Dodgers either pitching for them or being a key part of a significant trade. For the later to happen, Miller needs to put up good numbers which is probably more difficult in the PCL than in MLB. Most games in the PCL is like playing in Colorado.
So Roberts managing blunders starting to show up, bottom of lineup –worse than ever–. Guys we traded doing great, pitcher injuries popping up again.
That’s why team struggling so much this year—wait—We have most wins and least losses of all 32 teams

According to manager Dave Roberts, the Dodgers will “piece it together” and use a bullpen game Wednesday in Chicago versus the Cubs.
Kershaw starting for Tulsa tonght in his second rehab appearance.
Welp.
Methinks the Dodgers deserved to lose that one. Nearly stole it. One out away–and then Tanner Scott gives up the HR. Oof.
I’m wondering why, in the 10th inning, Roberts didn’t walk Happ to set up the double play. Yes, it would bring up Tucker–but so what? He’d be coming up in the inning no matter what. Plus, Happ was swinging a hot bat–and the Cubs just needed one run.
Seems like a tactical error.
I would never put the winning run on base.
I believe the winning run was already on, It was extra innings
Yes the winning run in the 10th started with the ghost runner on second with no outs.
I was talking about earlier.

I don’t know anything about races like the Grand Prix or Lemons or whatever it’s called, maybe because that’s not a sport, but hey, nobody cares… But I think in those races they have to do two or three laps before starting the race, right? It’s warming up, what matters is at the end, in the last laps, here it’s the same, this is just starting, they are just getting warmed up… Patience, I assure you, or almost certain that there will be no trades this week or next month. Maybe there will be on the trade dateline. So stop insisting on wanting to get rid of Muncy, Taylor, Barnes, Rojas, Pages and company, they are there for a reason, they are part of a team, they may not be the most important parts like an engine, a transmission or the spark plugs, but they are the cables, bolts or… I don’t know what else, it was a stupid example, but I think you understood.
And by the way, and with all due respect, but… Nobody cares about the fucking Padres!
Jorge, why are you so angry about anything to do with the Padres?
I don’t know what you’re talking about, I don’t care about that shitty team!
How would you like to be Workman, the kid who played third for the Cubs last night. Kid goes 0-3 with 2 errors and gets DFAd because the Cubs signed Nicky Lopez to a big-league deal.
Not to worry; AF will sign him and DFA Muncy.
Dodgers have shut down Blake Snell. Reportedly he did not feel good after his last throwing session. He will get imaging when the team returns to LA. Per MLBTR
“The Dodgers catcher was out of the lineup on Wednesday despite the team having an off-day Thursday. The Dodgers were also off Monday of this week, and Smith was out of the lineup this past Sunday.
Smith told David Vassegh of AM570 radio that he has a sore wrist after banging his wrist on the play at the plate tagging Ian Happ in the 6th inning of Tuesday night’s game”.
Snell you later
Workman, i think he was a rule 5 player, and he was a SS playing another position, they showed little patience either in having chosen him and/or in having released him…
That’s the difference between these organizations, some make decisions without a plan and others like the Dodgers, where there’s always a plan.
I just finished reading the article on the MLB Rumors page, I hadn’t seen it.
Credit to Roberts. Moving T. Hernandez up in the batting order allowed him to get 4 RBI’s.
When is it time to start worrying about homerless Max Muncy and strking out 31 times in 73 At bats with a .178 BA and .529 OPS? We have to also remember he was hitless in the 2024 World Series striking out 10 times in 16 at bats.. Is Max at the end of his career with the Dodgers? Is it time for the Dodgers to start considering other options? Chris Taylor is now the 26th man on the roster, should Max be relegated to the 25th man on the roster? Just everyone’s thoughts about what I see.
June….
Andrew – this fall off from Max is not unexpected to me, and that’s why I was championing a move for Arenado, who obviously wanted to be a Dodger.
Max, who I have the utmost respect for, started terribly last season before heating up in the second half and then disappearing during the WS run. I found it incredible that most posters here were against signing Nolan which would have filled a need at 3B (for which we have no obvious successor) when he has an affordable contract that Colorado is helping to offset.
So far this season he has put up a 0.9 War which is fourth best of regular Third Basemen, and is undoubtedly a superior glove man to Max. Seems like an opportunity lost to me as Max is definitely in decline, as his numbers show.
That being said. I’m optimistic that once the season really gets going, we will see the Dodgers although maybe not Max in a more positive light.
Disappearing for the WS run???
Did you watch the NLCS?
Max is gonna be fine….

Does anyone really think we will have Noah Davis pitching meaningful innings come October?
Sometimes you gotta lose a battle or 2 to win a war.
To put things in perspective if we close out the game in Texas and Chicago like we should have, the team is 18-7 and the best record in the Bigs.
162 folks…..162….
If we won every game we would be 25-0. IF IF IF IF
Talking about 2 games bud, not 162…..
Don’t want to curse anyone over what may appear as nonsense but I watch a number of Royal games live. I remember posting perhaps two years ago about how good Witt looked. Again it’s early for him. When watching OKC, Freeland looked much like Witt. The ball seems to explode off of his bat and his defense is much better than average. I’d love to see them get a good hard look.
I think sitting Will Smith yesterday was a wise move sore wrist or not. Last season he was the best hitting catcher in the NL until the all star break. Again this season he’s the best hitting catcher. History has a way of repeating itself unless adjustments are made. The Dodgers I believe by design will give Smith more days off so hopefully he doesn’t wear down.
I think we should strongly consider trading him to the A’s for second baseman Max Muncy. Muncy is younger than Muncy so he has more controllable years. He only hit .176 in 21 games before being sent down so his trade value is low. Max is a better fielder than Muncy so he would improve the defense, and his salary is much lower than Muncy’s so that would help, too. Yes, trading Max for Muncy would be a win-win. Thoughts?
Think of the money the Dodgers could save. They could give young Max the same number as the old Max and won’t have to take the name off the jersey and can still use the same name plates. Brilliant
Fans are losing their minds over these early season losses. There are much more important things in life. It is after all just a game. They will make changes when they feel the time is right, and not before.
News from Internet:
Jay Jaffe had a chat:
https://blogs.fangraphs.com/jay-jaffe-fangraphs-chat-4-22-25/
Mr. Burrito: I’m not whining, I swear. I get that any Dodgers problems, this year, are first-world issues. But I’m getting worried about Muncy and Pages increasingly looks like a 4th outfielder. Do they need another bat? And, if so, should it be Luis Robert Jr.
Jay Jaffe: I’ve been a little skeptical about Pages given his contact issues, and boy howdy have those resurfaced. He may very well be a 4th outfielder. Not sure yet what’s going on with Muncy but we’ve seen him go through funks before and he always seems to find his way out. Maybe the other Max Muncy is stealing his mojo.
Robert has been so bad for the past year-plus, I wouldn’t touch him with a 40-foot pole
md: What are your thoughts on the (mostly unhinged fan) scuttlebutt of trying to get Muncy outta there for Arenado?Friedman has kind of been on record saying he doesn’t like big midseason trades like that, right?
Jay Jaffe: I’m pretty lukewarm on Arenado at this stage, at least in terms of giving up significant talent for him. By all evidence he’s a league-average bat with a glove that’s still above average but no longer elite. That’s useful but not somebody I wanna pay $25–30M per year for
Allison: Is Luis Robert overrated or just mentally done on a terrible team?
Jay Jaffe: That’s a very good question. I wouldn’t discount the effect of being surrounded by a miserable situation but… even if that’s the case it doesn’t speak well of the player because there are plenty who can block that out and still perform well. What I do think is more likely is that White Sox are so behind the times that he’s not getting the proper intel for how he’s being pitched and how to adjust.
Per Geoff Pontes:
3B Jake Gelof hasn’t played this year he’s on the IL, with a bad right wrist tendon.
Josh Norris at Baseball America takes a look at Sean Linan’s new change ($$$$)
https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/dodgers-rhp-sean-linan-riding-high-spin-changeup-to-huge-k-whiff-numbers/
“On April 18, three pitchers finished their outings with 20 swings and misses. The first was Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Dodgers phenom who two years ago signed the biggest contract of any pitcher in history. The second was Phillies ace Zack Wheeler, a two-time runner-up for the Cy Young award.
The third? That would be Sean Linan, a 20-year-old Dodgers righthander who signed out of Colombia in 2022…””
per Dodgers Daily:
Still in swing school, James Outman had 2 hits last night for AAA OKC & has hits in 7 games in a row. He hit his 6th double of 2024 & has raised his Batting Average 46 points since April 11th.
He played some pretty rangy D out in Center Field in a VERY rangy ballpark in Salt Lake, so that part of his game has stayed intact on the ++ side of things.
Hopefully, he can continue to take step-by-step in creating swing mechanisms that create consistency in contact.
Ben Clemens Had a Chat
Ryan: Tatis is playing out of his mind right now. When he’s right is he the best overall player in baseball outside of Ohtani?
Ben Clemens: Gotta have Judge ahead of him, I think. Not that Tatis isn’t great, I’m a huge fan… but Judge has been the best-performing baseball player for years now. Ohtani might have more raw talent but c’mon, these hitting numbers, absurd
Robbie Boyfred: Nolan Arenado and Lara Nootbar for a package built around Bobby Miller and Andy Pages. Who says no?
Ben Clemens: oh man, getting the SoCal kids back to SoCal. I think the Dodgers would probably say no, depending on how Arenado’s contract gets handled, but I could see the Cardinals being unwilling to move Nootbaar given that he’s one of their best few players and they want to compete again soon. I think the value is at least in the ballpark of right, and probably I’d prefer the Miller/Pages side in a vacuum, so it’d just be about the contract and whether St. Louis is okay trading away more outfielders with huge potential. Their previous outfielder trades have gone mostly badly
Baseball America’s Geoff Pontes on Jakob Wright ($$$)
https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/could-jakob-wright-be-the-dodgers-next-sleeper-pitching-prospect/#:~:text=It's%20still%20extremely%20early%2C%20but,by%20the%20reigning%20world%20champions.&text=Definitely%20some%20work%20to%20do,the%20ball%20comes%20out%20great.
“This new version of Wright is in stark contrast to his amateur career, when he mostly worked off a cut-fastball and the aforementioned slurvy breaking ball. Now, Wright is showing more power and a collection of pitches that all move in different directions. His new sinker, in particular, looks like it could be a welcomed addition to his arsenal. He threw it seven times in his first start, and it showed the ability to create sink and armside run with good velocity. ”
Per Morosi:
The Dodgers have played 25 games this season.
They’ve yet to have a pitcher start on “standard” rest, which is 4 days.
They are the only MLB team for whom that is true.
Dan Szymborski Had a Chat
https://blogs.fangraphs.com/dan-szymborski-fangraphs-chat-4-24-25/
Guest Are the Dodgers mediocre? A run differential of a barely over 500 team and a lot of their wins came against cellar dwellers like the Braves and Rockies.
Dan Szymborski No. I think people were too crazy about them — they didn’t have an over/under of 105 or something crazy — but they’re still an excellent team
Lord Thunder What’s longer odds … Luis Robert Jr. staying healthy enough to play in 120 games this season or hitting .250?
Dan Szymborski .250, just eyeballing it, I think he has to hit .like .270 now to finish at .250 And he’s played in 22/24 games, so he only needs to play 98 of 138, which is more liely I think
Let’s compare:
Luis Robert Jr. 76AB 27K 10R 11H 6RBI 7SB 3CS 2HR .145BA .517OPS 53OPS+ -.01WAR
Andy Pages 81AB 23K 9R 13H 7RBI 0SB 1CS 4HR .183BA .650OPS 86OPS+ +.04WAR
Andy is getting better offensively and usually bats last or lower in the lineup than Robert Jr.. Right now it’s a clear choice to keep Pages and look for other ways to improve the team.
uh, sign me up for Nolan. I’m not sure if Max will get to .200 !
The Dodger roster investments have been in pitching and for good reason after what we experienced last season. The SP and BP crew will be managed carefully and slowly over the season, hence leaving rookies in games when they’re getting shelled. Even with our investments I am not super confident Snell and Glass will be around in Oct given their fragility.
I’m not concerned about losses at this point, but there are a couple of things that bother me. First is defense. Our starting outfield is avg which is not good enough in October.
Second is lack of professional at bats. slumping or not, I expect runners to be moved over, sac flies, etc. I think this years team will be more about pitching than mashing HRs, which means small ball. This is also how playoff games typically unfold. Muncy and Pages are poor in this area. I give them time to “find their swing” but a WS team needs players who grind at bats even when struggling. This is not a springtime only issue that goes away with time. It’s character and team ethos.
Preseason this team talked about a hunger and focus to win. So far I see too many misplays, running gaffs, and easy outs.
I know it’s early, but this team still needs to define itself vs listening to everyone saying their loaded.
Do you know who are starting OF was in late April 2024?
Taylor in LF
Teo in RF
Outman in CF
What you see now, will not be what you see in Sept-Oct…..
Any player and any team can have a slump. That’s nothing new, and I think it’s better now that it’s still early, since there’s plenty of time to make the necessary adjustments. What bothers me is why the hell do they swing at the first pitch? Working on the count worked really well for them before. It’s so frustrating to see Othani swing at the first pitch almost every time. It seems like all he wants to do is get an hour to spend with his daughter.
Oops, I was wrong, I meant HR to dedicate it to his baby.
