OK, I Give Up!

Bobby Miller is maddening! Yet, I can’t hate him. You see, I could hit triple digits when I was young, and no one even offered me a deal because my pitches were flat and straight! Bobby Miller is in the show, but he looks horrible. I will not belabor this with a lot of thinking or even circular thinking. Bobby Miller needs a fresh start. So does James Outman. Just throw in a couple more prospects and trade them for Luis Robert, Jr. Hell, send them Ryan Ward too. Ward might play for the White Sox.

Get it done. What’s the worst that can happen? The ChiSox get $20 million in salary relief, and maybe Outman, Miller, and others discover who they might be in Chicago. Or… maybe it is a bust for everyone. Sometimes, you just need to do something, anything… instead of nothing… when you have two maddening players like Outman and Miller.

Maybe it was just a bad day? Casparius had one of those last week. Maybe, but I see a trend. Something is just not clicking between Bobby Miller and the Dodgers’ pitching staff. Maybe Miller, Outman, and Robert, Jr. need a change of scenery. I don’t pine for Robert, Jr., but I want Miller and Outman out of my sight! Sometimes you have to know when to fold ’em.

Dodger News & Notes

  • Evan Phillips will likely but up very shortly after pitching on back-to-back days and getting the save.
  • Kershaw baffled the AAA players with his 89 MPH fastball, Public Enemy Number One, and his slider last night at OKC. He threw 30 pitches, 22 for strikes. It’s likely he adds 2 MPH to his fastball as he builds up. I can see him pairing with Sasaki (going 4 or 5) and then bringing Kersh in for the last 4. That would mess a team up!
  • Josue DePaula was 2-5 with a double and a Grand Slam last night for GL. He is hitting .243 but OPSing .945. Hope is hitting .364 with a 1.087 OPS.
  • Eriq Swan has been shining too.

  1. Comment from last post:

NL WEST Was the best division last year and its the best division this year.

Thats good for us, keeps us sharp all year.

Onto the site of the 2020 World Series Championships. I was at game 1 and game 2, great memories…Glasnow Vs Kersh was game 1…..

  2. agree, 100% on Bobby Miller. Just because you can throw 99 to 100 doesn’t mean you’ll have success in a major leagues.. his breaking stuff is very good. His fast ball is very hittable. I agree he needs a change of scenery!… nice to see Andy come alive with the bat. His defense is still an adventure…. Also nice to see Max get a couple of hits last night. We don’t see that very often!… how about old Barnsie and that wood chop double last night?…. Friedman may have pulled off one of the best trades in dodger history with Tommy Edman! … I haven’t heard or seen anything regarding the progress of Gavin Stone. I really enjoy watching Gavin pitch….. The bull pen did a great job again last night. With Phillips almost ready, Kopech and bazooka hopefully coming soon, dodger pen looks unhittable. If all three come back, who the heck goes?… can’t wait for Clayton to get back!… Blake Snell will have a very good season with the Dodgers! Not worried in the least.. one thing that does concern me, the Dodgers scored seven runs in the first inning against the Rockies. After that, one measly run over the next seven. on an evening, where Andy pages and Max have multiple hit games, you would hope the offense would be a lot better! I guess I’m just a little greedy this morning! Everybody have a great Easter weekend and be safe! Now let’s go to Texas and win a series!

    1. From the Dodger’s Official Page:
      RHP Gavin Stone
Injury: Recovery from right shoulder surgery
IL date: Feb. 11 (60-day IL)
      Expected return: 2026
Status: Underwent right shoulder surgery last Oct. 9; expected to miss the entire 2025 season. (updated Feb. 11)

  3. Time to move on from Bobby Miller. He just doesn’t look confident on the mound expecting something bad to happen which usually does. I’m sure some team will be interested in him, probably a low market team where the pressure will not be as great. With the abundance of starting pitchers eventually ready to return, a trade or two will solve the logjam. It’s sad to see how Miller has regressed from 2023.

  4. Wednesday scores

  5. thanks AVF! i fully expect Gavin to reclaim his spot in the rotation when completely healthy! love his makeup! …. Also, i was on the bandwagon last year for Louis Robert. Please kick me off that wagon!!! But! if Pages. doesn’t cut it in center field, and Kim doesn’t hit enough to make the big league team, then a quality center fielder would be a necessity. Please leave Edman at second!!!

    1. OK, but first he must learn a “Bugs Bunny Change Up.”

Éric Gagné’s most notable and effective pitch was his Vulcan Changeup. It was a unique changeup with a special grip that generated a significant velocity difference between it and his fastball, making it particularly difficult for hitters to adjust to. The changeup was so effective that it was also referred to as the “Bugs Bunny Changeup”.

      1. Gagne might be the only pitcher I’ve ever seen with command of three plus-plus pitches. Lincecum came close.

  6. Miller is not fun to watch. He overthrows a lot. A couple of his pitches looked like they were going to end up in the press box, but Barnes made a couple of nice grabs. Looked like Kyle Farmer tweaked his side a couple of times while swinging last night. Never fails, you rag on the bottom of the lineup and then they drive in 5 of the teams 8 runs. They lose last night without that production.

  7. Miller was doing just fine for a kid until after the 25 minutes waiting around. Then his stuff wasn’t there and he left one smack in the middle of the zone. Without that one pitch we’d be singing his praises this morning. But hey, if we all had wings, right?!

Friedman/Gomes won’t tank his value by “selling low”. They’ll TRY to rebuild his confidence/value and IF that happens then who knows? Maybe he regains his footing, or maybe he is traded. I have NO INTEREST in Luis Robert. I hope I’m wrong if the Dodgers trade for him but I don’t think they will unless it’s a very low price (in their minds).

    1. Mostly agree. Miller’s stuff looked quite good. Too many FBs even though his other pitches looked good. Couldn’t get out when things got sticky.

    2. He as ok in the second inning. It as the third inning that blew up in his face. Unfortunately, that seems to be Miller. One bad inning or men get on base and he can’t control the damage. And yet he struck out seven. Very frustrating.

  8. Needs to throw more strikes. Harder to be an effective pitcher when you’re throwing behind in the count.

  9. Chris Campos looked good this spring. Still think he’s a future big league reliever or deadline trade piece.

  10. The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller Thursday, a day after his first Major League start of the season.

    1. He was optioned to Ukraine where they plan to use his fastball to bring down drones…

      1. Are you saying even drones can hit his fastball or he can hit drones with it?

Question? How much can a change of grip add or decrease movement on a 4 seam fastball? I remember reading where a successful pitcher slumped due to allowing his index and social finger to get about a quarter of an inch further apart and fixed things by bringing them back together. It was discovered with high speed cameras.

    2. Evan Phillips might activated in Miller’s place for the game tomorrow against the Rangers.

  11. The analytics for Jack Dreyer and Alex Freeland are impressive. If Max keeps struggling, or gets hurt, and Freeland keeps raking, will he get a chance to play 3B?
It’s seems like Kershaw may fully complete his journey from power ace to wily, crafty veteran southpaw this season.
An effective Kershaw would be a nice feel-good story. Dream scenario would have him joining Shohei in the post-season rotation. ..
Hey, any update on David Bote? Last I heard he was on the OKC “restricted list,” whatever that means.

    1. Evidently, he thinks an MLB team will need him and he ain’t playing no stinkin’ AAA.
