LOS ANGELES — Major League Baseball announced the postseason shares for 2024, during which the total player pool of $129,092,159 smashing the previous year’s record. The Dodgers total share of pool, as World Series champions, was $46,473,177, with full postseason shares tabbed at $477,441 each.
The Dodgers are only involved to jack up the price for BORASS. The Mets are the ultimate prize winners, if you can call it that. No where is he worth the money Cohen will be paying him. Maybe we get a break from BORASS and we sign Snell.
Edit: Apologies that this is posted as a response.
No. Not serious. Zero chance of acquiring Soto.
Whatever!
Ok, so clearly you dislike Scott Boras but IF the Dodgers are offering big money to drive up the price it works in Scott Boras’ favor not against him. He earns a percentage of his client’s salaries. As for what Juan Soto is “worth”? He’s worth whatever he can get whether you or anyone else agrees.
Soto is a generational talent. Has the potential to be the best hitter of this generation. I get that you don’t like Boras, but let’s stop with the player hating. Soto is going to get paid and he is going to make a lot of money for whoever signs him.
BANG!
You get it!
just think of all the talent the dodgers can acquire if they take a pass on Soto! Teo,Adames, Fried, Snell,Burnes(Pick any one pitcher), maybe a trade for Crochet and Robert, AF is probably laughing out loud at the Mets and yankees! Drive that price up AF!! i hope he goes to the Blue Jays!
I don’t see the Dodgers paying Juan Soto — Shohei Ohtani money.
Ohtani is iconic and generates a lot of sponsorship and marketing dollars for LA. Soto won’t do that.
My guess is they focus on starting pitching in free agency or the trade market. Maybe they re-sign Hernandez, not a bad idea, I’m sure they’ll look for bullpen options.
Teo is a good player.
Juan Soto is a Hall-of-Famer!
It’s like comparing apples to filet mignon.
I think the Dodgers are serious about Soto only if Soto is serious about the Dodgers.
No question: Soto will get a ton of money. I It’s been reported that the Mets’ Cohen has said he would exceed any rival offer by $50 m. Not sure if that’s true, but I do think that the Mets are the frontrunner, followed by the Yankees.
But if Soto would take less to play on the Dodgers and live in SoCal, well….
That said, I’d still prefer the Dodgers invest the $500 million (or whatever) in three or four players, like Teo, Adames, Crochet… And we’d have enough left over to bring back Treinen and Kike.
I keep reading about how Soto is so young and will be a superstar for the next decade. Possibly true.
But Mike Trout was on such a path before injuries took their toll. So was Albert Pujols.
Soto may have an epic career–but there’s always a risk.
The Dodgers paid Mookie Betts Big Money
Now it looks like chump change.
The Dodgers paid Shohei Ohtani Big Money… I did not think they would… but they did.
Juan Soto is a Hall-of-Fame Player no matter how anyone wants to minimize his ability.
The Dodgers would be morons not to be in on him and you are a moron if you think they aren’t.
I am not saying they will sign him… but they are kicking the tires.
Of course, they should.
One question: Would they be a better team if Juan Soto were on it?
You know the answer!
If given a choice, I would rather have Soto’s bat over Ohtani’s. Shohei has holes in his swing. He was exposed in the playoffs. Soto is at a different level hitting wise.
As much as I disliked Barry Bonds, I recognize that man could hit. Juan Soto might be the best hitter we have seen since Barry Bonds and is very likely going to rival some of the best in the history of the game by the time he hangs up his cleats.
As a major market team, it would be foolish for the Dodgers to not make a serious run at Soto.
You are a freaking Genius!
The question for Soto is would he rather squeeze out every last dollar out if some team or maximize his chances to win several WS?
If your Soto what does the Snell signing tell him?
That the Dodgers were never going to sign him (Soto.)
“If your Soto what does the Snell signing tell him?”
That the LAD are serious about winning!
Dodgers sign Blake Snell to a 5 year, 182$ mil deal!
Giddy up
Now that’s one filthy ass left hander. Total gamer too. Thanks to Ohtani s defferal contract , he chose rings over money to give the Dodgers flexibility Can you imagine Snell in front of 50 plus thousand at Dodger Stadium? He’s gonna be a gamechanger.. HUGE Big Boy move by the Dodgers, man they sure swing some big brass ones when they need to. My Giant fan buddies are pissed!!
So Snell is the new ace…. for beaucoup dinero.
Five years for $182 million…. which is two more years and maybe $70 million more than some folks expected.
From MLB. com:
“Snell, though, recaptured his Cy Young form upon returning from his second IL stint, putting together an incredible stretch that saw him post a 1.23 ERA with 114 strikeouts, 30 walks and a .123 opponents’ batting average in 80 1/3 innings over his final 14 starts. His season peaked on Aug. 2, when he struck out 11 in a no-hitter against the Reds that was also the first complete game of his career.
“Inconsistency has been a problem during Snell’s career, in part because he walks so many batters (lifetime 4.1 BB/9). Durability is also a concern, with Snell having thrown more than 129 1/3 innings in a season only twice (in each of his Cy Young campaigns). However, when Snell is on his game, he has proven to be one of the toughest pitchers in baseball.”
So the six-man rotation could start with four aces: Snell, Shohei, Yamamoto and Glasnow. Right now, Gonsolin, Miller and Knack would make seven… And maybe Dustin May, though a lot of us think the bullpen is in his future. And Kershaw and Sheehan in a few months… And maybe Frasso and Ferris.
And what if Sasaki decides to come? Geez.
What is the ripple effect of this deal? Does this mean AF is now done with the rotation–or could he still try to bring back Buehler (maybe!) or even swing a deal for Crochet, which seems doubtful.
Will the brass now turn their attention to Teo and maybe Adames? Maybe both?
And what about the trade market? Packaging Lux in a deal for Devin Williams could be a win-win.
And if Teo decides to move on, would it make sense to go after Luis Robert Jr?
Kershaw will also be back at some point. AF can now package some of the younger guys in a trade if needed. Also most of them have options and could start the season in the minors.
Love the Snell move. Pitching, pitching and more pitching wins championships. AF comes through again. Hopefully Teo is next,
Snell’s deal contains about $60 million of deferred money and a clause that would have the Dodgers pay Snell an additional $5 million if he were traded.
As it stands, the new contract would cover Snell’s age-32 to 36 seasons. Snell’s contract has a $52 million signing bonus and no opt out clauses.
When this signing becomes official, the Dodgers will have 37 players on the 40-man roster, including 23 pitchers and 14 position players.
“Let’s be pigs” as Andrew Friedman once famously said and sign Sasaki too. We as Dodger fans should be thankful that our ownership wants to win,not just make money, MLB teams and fans must be very pissed off this morning , TOO BAD. We are are now the Evil Empire on the West Coast.Come get us!!!!
Love the signing.
However I want WB back. I dont care what he does in the reg season, we need him for October.
Everyone agrees that the Dodgers love flexibility. A 6 man rotation would completely eliminate all pitching flexibility. Prior said they would lose a bullpen arm if they did. So hybrid 5 man rotation would create lots of flex and an extra arm in the pen. Snell did a deferral no reason Soto won’t they want to win, now!
Just a fantastic time to root for the Boys in Blue!
