I received an E-Mail yesterday from the Dodgers PR staff about getting media credentials for the NLDS. I used to get them but have not done that for about nine or ten years. Anyway, towards the bottom, it said this:

“All individuals must be both vaccinated and boosted to receive access to restricted areas (clubhouse, field, interview room, photography wells) at Dodger Stadium in alignment with rules set forth by Major League Baseball.“

Can anyone give me a logical, rational reason as to why? From what I have learned, people who are vaccinated and boosted can still get COVID-19 and transmit COVID-19. The vaccine only tends to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 upon the person who takes the vaccine. It does not prevent that person from contracting it, nor does it prevent the spread to others. So, why in the hell is MLB requiring it? Is it just “virtue signaling,” or is it just “governmental overreach” by Manfred? I am being dead serious and would like someone to explain why MLB is demanding such a thing. This stuff really pisses me off.

Show me how I am wrong! PLEASE! Have a take, but do not suck! That’s all I have to say about it.

  • The Dodgers are the only team in baseball history to win 106 game is three consecutive full seasons. 2020 did not count as a full season. Not the Yankees – Your Los Angeles Dodgers.
  • The Dodger have secured home field advantage throughout the NL Playoffs.
  • I am assuming that Blake Treinen and Dustin May will miss the playoffs. If either one makes it back, that is just icing on the cake.
  • Victor Gonzalez, David Price and Yency Almonte are all possibilities to return the last week of the season.
  • Victor pitched a clean inning for OKC last night, striking out one.
  • James Outman hit his 31st HR last night.
  • Mike Grove and Andre Jackson have a couple of MPH more on their fastballs if asked to pitch one inning. One of them could be a possibility in the playoffs.
  • Gavin Stone is turning heads – At OKC last night, he went 6 innings, allowed 3 hits, 0 Runs, 0 BB and struck out 11. After 23 innings in AAA he has a 1.16 ERA. Compare that to Bobby Miller’s 3.38 ERA, MIke Grove’s 4.07 ERA, and Ryan Pepiot’s 2.56 ERA at AAA. He is a stud and he is ready. I would trust him more than any of the other AAA pitchers I just named.

  1. The President said COVID was over, Canada ends COVID-19 entry requirements, but MLB (aka Manfred) still has his ego on full display. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!

  2. here in Germany they require you to wear a FFP2 mask on long distance train rides and community transfers in the cities but you can sit with thousand of other guests in tents at the Oktoberfest !

    So rediculous.

    Stone is pitching lights out. Give him a start in the big leagues and see what he can do. He might be the secret weapon.
    Hitters have not seen him and that should work to his advantage too.

    Starting pitching could see Stone, Miller and Pepiot next year.

  3. Quickly I can think of two reasons;

    1. The longer the virus remains inside a person, the more copies of itself it makes, each one offering a fresh chance to develop a mutation. As you said, you can still get Covid but most likely in a reduced form. So if everyone is inoculated then those people if exposed they won’t have a sever case. Less severe case means less the virus stays in the body, the less it chance it can mutate.

    2. Most likely reason, legal liability. Require everyone be inoculated you can’t sue MLB for being hospitalized/severe infection.

    1. And a third reason, appearance. Last thing MLB would want is to somehow be the cause of an outbreak. Hence the directive.

      1. Better safe than sorry. As Yogi would say, “It ain’t over until it’s over.”
        NYC’s subways carry signs now that say masks aren’t required–but they are still encouraged.
        Anyway, after 1 million American deaths, I find the complaints about covid safeguards much more irksome than the safeguards themselves. More than 1 million Americans died prematurely because of covid, including my wife’s Uncle Jack, who left behind a widow and two sons still in elementary school.
        Based on the rough math, Jack and hundreds of thousands other Americans would have had a much better chance of survival if they had lived in Canada. The covid mortality rate of Americans was about triple that of Canadians.
        America really screwed the pooch on that one.

        1. It probably has nothing to do with this:

          1. Hospitals were rewarded financially for every death that was called COVID-19;
          2. America is the most obese and unhealthiest country in the world;
          3. Canada is very sparsely populated compared to the US. Canada has more square miles than the USA, but 1/10 amount of people.

          We will be learning more about some of this shortly.

            My 92 year old Grandma passed away in a Nursing Home. The listed cause of death was COVID-19. She didnt die of COVID……

        2. Died of covid or WITH covid? The financial incentive for hospitals and doctors to classify admissions or deaths as covid related was staggering. Hospitals and doctors were not allowed to conduct elective procedures during the plandemic losing million of dollars of revenue but not to worry with the government cash cow of covid relief available to offset those losses. It’s also staggering to hear so many people believe the statistics released by the government to include the CDC. I have no doubt thousands of people died OF covid but it was overwhelming affecting the elderly and those with other health issues such as diabetes or obesity. The survival rate for covid for every demographic was over 98% and most were over 99%. Even with the inflated CDC death rate stats of covid it still represents less than 1% of the US population of roughly 350 million. CDC changing the definition of “vaccine”, other treatments being discouraged? When in recent history have we been required to wear a mask after receiving a vaccine? Get the shot, booster and wear a mask if it makes you feel comfortable but don’t mandate others for a shot that doesn’t work. I’m over 60 and never got the shot, never wore a mask except where required (Costco etc) and haven’t been sick except for a cold (maybe omicron?) last winter. History will show that this was and still is the biggest overreaction to a virus that has an over 99% survival rate. Just look to see who profited from this debacle and the pieces of the puzzle start to fall in place. MANFRED SUCKS!! Would love to see Stone get a look this season but seems like it will have to wait for ST.

  4. I really don’t know what to say about that policy, Mark. I think most of the country jumped the shark when it comes to this situation. I’m against the government forcing people to be injected. That’s essentially what’s happening when you see this kind of thing. I’m sure their dangling that antitrust exemption over MLB’s head, or Manfred is just a power hungry sociopath.

    Gavin was a beast this season. They probably should have brought him up at some point. It’s a real waste to have a pitcher with his success sitting in the minors when the MLB roster really needs a righty (or two) in the rotation.

    On the flip side, Doc said that May and Gonsolin are still in play for the postseason and are planning on using one of them in tandem with Heaney in a piggyback for the 4th starter.

    The Dodgers have publicly stated they prefer veterans in the postseason and Stone probably wouldn’t be pitching past the 4th inning anyways at this point. 90 innings last year, 120 this year. Normal progression for a Dodgers pitcher.

    Then there’s the 40 man problem. They still need to DFA someone to get another pitcher like Stone or even V-Gone onto the roster. Queue the peanut gallary to call for Kimbrel’s or Price’s spot to make room for a you pitcher that’s never thrown a pitch in a big league game.

    The Braves are now just one game behind the Mets. They will play a 3 game series against each other this weekend. The Mets also have 2 against the Marlins and 3 against the Mats to close out the season. The Braves have two more against the Nats and 3 against the Marlins to close out the season. Crazy! The Braves need a sweep to win the season series.

    The Padres are 1.5 games ahead of the Phillies in the Wild Card and 3 games ahead of the Brewers.
    The Brewers finish with 2 v. Cards, 3 v. Marlins and 3 v. D-Backs.
    The Phillies get 3 v. Cubs, 4 v. Nats with a DH on Saturday, and 3 v. Astros.
    The Padres get 3 v. Dodgers, 3 v. White Sox and 3 v. Giants.

    The Yankees will clinch the division at some point barring a total collapse.
    The Jays have 2 more against he Yankees, 3 v Red Sox, 3 v Orioles
    The Rays have 3 v Guardians, 3 v Astros, 2 v Red Sox
    The Mariners have 3 v Rangers, 3 v A’s, 4 v Tigers
    The Orioles have 3 v Red Sox, 3 v Yankees, 3 v Blue Jays.

    I must say, there’s a lot still up in the air. But the Orioles have a really tough hill to climb. It looks the the AL is about done with teams just jockeying for position.

    There’s still a chance that the Padres can choke away their playoff spot, but they’ve been playing well lately.

  6. Morning guys. I am inoculated, so I worry little about Covid. I read extensively about the vaccine I was getting before I got the shots. I spent 9 years in the military where the government forces you to be inoculated. This time it was my choice. Baseball is a business and business’s make their own rules. Glad there is a game on tonight, tired of watching re-runs.

    1. I respect those who get VAXXED and those who don’t.

      I just don’t respect people who tell others what they should do.

      2. Same here Mark. I have friends who have refused and not gotten ill at all. I also have some who were exposed at one of our pickin on the porch get together and suffered some of the lesser symptoms. The US is about freedom of choice, at least it used to be.

      3. I echo those statements, Mark.

        The biggest mistake was when the lying media and politicians made covid political. It made most people question everything.

        With that said, I’ll probably get boosted sometime in the near future. I got the two shots last year around this time and got Covid in January. I personally think that I want to either get the virus or get boosted yearly in order to keep my immune system poised to fight it.

        I’m not pro vax or anti vax. I’m pro common sense and freedom to make my own decisions.

    The goal, simplified, is immunity. The preferred path to immunity is through vaccination and boosting. While it’s not 100% a path to immunization, it helps.

    So, you have to get the shot? Who gives a shit?

    1. Lots of people give a shit.

      The Polio and Smallpox Vaccines eradicated their respective scourges. The COVID-19 vaccine is not of that ilk.

          1. Yes, but that vaccine prevents transmission as well as contracting it. The COVID-19 Vaccine does not.

    2. Lots of people. And if you truly believe that a vaccine gives better protection than natural immunity from having the disease you’re just plain crazy. And you’re who gives a s*** statement is pretty much the attitude of everyone who thinks that people who don’t want the vaccine should still get it. Carry on.

  8. I would argue, or rather repeat an argument made by some in the medical profession that the path to immunity is not the vaccine and countless boosters but getting Covid and developing a natural immunity from an immune system bolstered by antibodies.
    Can people make their own choices on what they believe is best ?
    Some people believe getting an experimental vaccine, government developed and promoted, isn’t best for them.

  9. Polio is a virus. They have been looking at the recent outbreaks and seem to think it is coming from contaminated waste water. So I doubt it is because people are not inoculated, it is probably because the virus was thought to be eradicated. Seems like that is not the case,

    1. I’m pretty sure Bear, that those who are getting Polio (I am speaking about a (the?) New York case(s?)) are no immunized.

      The samples, you are citing, are just the indicators that the polio virus is present and worrisome.

      1. It’s an indication that we have lots of people coming in from third world countries who don’t vaccinate and they’re spreading it here. Gee, I wonder how that happens?

        1. Vaccine-derived polio stems from the oral vaccine used in low- and middle-income countries. This vaccine is cheap and easy to administer. Two doses confer lifetime immunity. But it is made with living, weakened virus. Those who’ve been immunized with live virus can shed it in their stool, which can then spread through sewage in places with poor sanitation.

        2. I’ve seen a lot of stupid stuff on this board, this one is right up there there with Mark’s belief about dead people voting.

          I am nearly certain the culprit are over-educated and undereducated people who believe in a long disproven link between vaccines and autism

      2. I was vaccinated against polio early in life. Got more of the same in the service. Hell, as many shots as I have received I should be immune to everything. When I was a kid, polio was the scariest thing out there. The thought of living the rest of my life in an iron lung was just terrifying.

    You don’t have to do everything the government tells you to do either. That’s how it works, in this country.

    1. that’s different, Bobo. Of course you don’t. You can jaywalk! You can try to avoid taxes or pay less taxes. You can claim (and often get awarded) disability checks you don’t merit.

      You can live your life largely free and independent.

      But there are consequences, too.

  13. Ok Bluto, just one more reply. You said, “of course “, you don’t have to do everything the government tells you to do. And then you give a list of three examples, all three of which are breaking the law. You do not have that right.
    What I am saying as citizens we have the right not to always obey the government. We have a Bill of Rights that give us those rights. We don’t have to leave the country or break the law.

    Price, 37, returns after missing 23 days with left wrist inflammation. He has made 38 appearances for the Dodgers this season, posting a 2-0 record with a 2.58 ERA (11 ER/38.1 IP). The former 2012 Cy Young has been in the Major Leagues 14 seasons, and he is a combined 157-82 with a 3.32 ERA (790 ER/ 2141.2 IP) and 2,072 career strikeouts. He was the number one selection in the 2007 First Year Player Draft out of Vanderbilt University.

    Jackson, 26, recorded the save on Sunday, tossing 3.0 innings, striking out three without allowing a run. In his Major League career, he is 0-1 with a 1.56 ERA (3 ER/17.1 IP) and 16 strikeouts in six games.     Mark I think you are overly optimistic about prospects, but yet Outman is a 4th or 5th outfielder to you. Grove and Jackson have no chance of making the playoff roster. I count 13 healthy pitchers, 4 on the IL (1 definitely returning, 2 possibly, 1 most likely not), and Gonzalez on a rehab assignment ahead of them. Jackson was good in AA but fell off a cliff in AAA. Grove was bad in AA and below average in AAA. I 100% agree with you about Gavin Stone though.

    It looks like the Dodgers only need to win 4 of their last 9 games to secure best record in baseball and get home field advantage in the World Series. I think that is very much doable and what are the chances the Astros win all their remaining games. So the Dodgers might not need 4 wins.

    Without more power, as Gavin Lux’s batting average declines his OBP declines and therefore his OPS declines. I certainly like him but he needs more power.

    After starting off bad earlier this year, Justin Turner now has an .803 OPS. Good to see him doing good. I think he still has at least another year in him.

    1. Eric, I still think the power will come with Lux, in time. Let’s take his progress a step at a time. This spring training we were hoping he would shake the yips and compete for the job at 2nd. He secured the job at 2nd for the most part and even got some looks in left. His bat did come on and he hit well, especially in the 9 hole.
      I don’t know Doc’s / the Wizards thoughts for the playoffs whether Lux platoons with Muncy or what. But he’s come along way in becoming the every day 2nd baseman. To me, that’s good enough for this season. I’m not concerned about power. We have plenty. I’ll take solid, steady defense and a .270 average. He’s young.

      1. Gavin Lux is solid at 2B. He will never be an MLB SS.

        That is a delusion.

        Let him be.

        Play him at 2B every day.

        He will be just fine.

        Do not move him around.

        That’s not his game.

        He will be an occasional All-Star. I think he will hit .300 with 15-20 HR power.

        Mike Busch and Miguel Vargas are ready. ONe will be traded and one will play … WHERE?

  19. I don’t see how a dishonest government can expect it’s citizens to be honest with them. I guess there are places where they have to be honest, but they’re supposed to lead by example. And that’s from the highest level to the lowest level of politicians and civil authority. But they are seldom truthful to the point it’s expected. We’ve been told so many different things about covid or corona virus and the more than couple vaccines and boosters that we have to question our governments motives. I can’t claim that I have any certainty it happened unintentionally or where it started even. I lost my last family member from covid 19 and I’d like some honesty what really was the start of it. If it was part of a plan I will have zero respect for any government or authority and I’d become a selective deadly virus to those responsible. I had the Johnson and Johnson vaccine but have no intention of going any further as I have zilch faith in what I’m being told is the truth. Dying isn’t such a big threat when the worse has already happened.

    1. Yeah he really hasn’t been tested all year. You could see it in his face, he was very uncomfortable with the pressure.
      What really bothers me is the sloppy defense. I think we’ve had about 10 errors in the last six games, probably should’ve had a couple more but generous home field scoring

  23. Kimbrel did away with Machado and then turned back to what he’s been all this season. He can’t close. Don’t even bother just face the fact.

    1. Item A. He wasn’t closing the game, he was trying to hold the line. B. Offense gave him no help in the tenth not even moving Taylor to third and not scoring. Yeah he walked two guys but the offense was 1-17 with RISP and left 14 runners on base. Game should not have even been that close. LA sucks in extra innings with a 4-9 record. So it ain’t all Kimbrel’s fault.

  25. The offense lost that game. Taylor missing that line drive did not help either. Kimbrel was in a lose lose situation. Yeah. he made 8 bad pitches but the offense left 14 men on base and was 1-17 with runners in scoring position. You can bitch about Kimbrel all you want, but the offense screwed the pooch in this game. Turner messing up that groundball in the 8th did not help either.

    1. Bear … of course you’re right about the lack of offense and the sloppy defense. But, let’s not give Kimbrel a pass. He’s totally responsible for not throwing strikes … he’s been pretty wild ever since he joined the team. I would much rather get beat by solid hitting from the other team, than give it away with walks.
