LA Dodger Talk Moving Forward

As I have mentioned, I need to reduce my involvement with LADT. Several of you have volunteered to write and some of you already write. The problem that I have is that if you send me a written post with some photos, it may take up to an hour for me to post it… and the thing is, it takes me about an hour to do a post myself, so that really does not help.

Jeff Dominique learned how to use Word Press and I would be glad to hold a Zoom Meeting to teach three or four of you how to use it as well. It’s not difficult! I think that in about a half-hour, I can show you what you need to know. You would just need to communicate with the group who was going to post and when.

I recommend a spell-check program, like Grammarly (which is free)… to minimize typos and structure issues. Let me know your thoughts. I can take a few minutes out of the day, but I can’t keep taking an hour… except on occasion.

Ideas?

  1. More than willing. I was able to post on the Word Press dashboard, but when I had to change my password and sign in, I no longer could get back on. I think what I needed was the ok from the site administrator. Used to be Bearone48, now is the Oldbear handle. But send me an email and we can set up a metting. I can see things, but there is no mic on my end, so I cannot respond.

  2. Hi Mark,

I’m willing to help out in any way possible in order to keep this site going. You got my email. Send me a link to that zoom meeting if you want to. Cheers.

    1. James Outman – 10G, 29AB, 8 H, 2 DBL, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 6BB/11K, .276/.400/.655/1.055
      Carson Taylor – 4G, 15AB, 6 H, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 0BB/3K, .400/.400/.600/1.000
      Jacob Amaya – 9G, 23AB, 6 H, 1 DBL, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 7BB/7K, .261/.433/.435/.868
      Kody Hoese – 7G, 24AB, 5H, 2 RBI, 2BB/10K, .208/.269/.208/.478
      Kyle Hurt – 5G, 7.1 IP, 1 HR, 7BB/8K, 4.91 ERA, 1.50 WHIP
      Bobby Miller – 3G, 7.0 IP, 1 HR, 3BB/7K,5.14 ERA, 1.00 WHIP
      Landon Knack – 3G, 9.2 IP, 2 HR, 1BB/13K, 5.59 ERA, 1.14 WHIP
      Jeff Belge – 5G, 4.2 IP, 1 HR, 5BB/8K, 15.43 ERA, 2.57 WHIP

Way too small sample size to draw conclusions, especially with the pitchers. Although after his disastrous 2021 season, Kody Hoese is looking more like a Jeren Kendall miss than a productive MLB player.

      1. And Carson Taylor, like Miguel Vargas, it seems that wherever he goes he’s going to hit.
Outman this year has taken a step forward, I see it, at some point in the 2022 season, sharing playing time with Pollock at the LF.

      2. I like Outman. His power has increased, but what is impressive is the kid’s defense in CF. There is an article on the Dodger website about the state of their kids. Interesting stuff. The Korean pitcher, Hyun-IL Choi, who was the top pitching prospect in the organization seems like an interesting piece down the road. Not much of a power pitcher, but his control is rated top notch. They seem to think that Outman and Vargas could make some sort of contributions sooner than later.

        1. I admit, Outman has grown on me. I think he could be an over-achiever. I like his makeup and drive. He is a good (but not elite) CF. Miguel Vargas is my #1 LAD position player prospect. IMO he has a higher ceiling than any position player in the organization. His floor is lower than several others, but I like to think the prospects will achieve their ceilings. Bobby Miller is my #1 LAD pitching prospect. Although I think he has both the highest ceiling and highest floor.

  3. I have talked to some knowledgeable baseball people who have confirmed my suspicions that Carson Taylor could be a very good MLB Catcher really soon… like by at least 2023… or sooner. He is a switch-hitter which adds all the more to his value. He is 6′ 2″ and about 210, but since he is just 22, he could add 20 pounds pretty easily. He could take Barnes’s place in 2023.

  4. Also talked to a guy who saw Gore and Miller pitch and said that Miller is a lot better thanGore.

    1. MacKenzie Gore might be the next Yadier Alvarez. I keep waiting for one of their arms to develop into a front line pitcher. It wasn’t long ago their farm system was rated at the top of MLB and most of their top 10 were pitchers.

    1. They gave up a second and third round pick for him, and the Bronco’s are paying 9 mil of his remaining 9.7 mil deal. Solid defender. Pretty choked up about leaving Denver too.

  5. Mariners declined Kyle Seager’s option. Dodgers not going to pick up Joe Kelly’s option. Melvin hiring in San Diego now official. Surprised the A’s, who had picked up his option months’ ago did not seek any compensation from the Pads for him leaving. Hyers notified the Sox he is not returning. Rangers hire Ecker away from the Giants to be their bench coach.

    1. Hyers was a very hitting coach in the minors for us and the Red Sox had a lot of success with him. I’m wondering why he’s choosing to the leave the Sox. Maybe he has an offer somewhere already?

I’m interested in how the Dodgers view their coaches based on the success of the team this last season. It drove me a bit crazy that it seemed we would get beat by the shift often, but we would never do the same against other teams. It also seems like the bats mostly struggled last year and it sure took a long time (all freaking season) for Belli to make an adjustment.

I especially wonder about the training staff with all the injuries we had. I don’t count Belli’s Broken leg or Seager’s broken hand as under their purview. But we sure seemed to have more than our fair share of hammy and obliques.

I would like to see some fresh blood as far as the coaching staff goes. But, I do think the pitching coaches do a good job. No changes need in that area.

      1. Hyers reportedly told the Sox he wanted to pursue other opportunities. At least that is what was said on MLBTR. Someone on one of the Dodger blogs, I think it was Dodger Nation, suggested they should go after Marcus Stroman. Nice pitcher, but not a difference maker in my opinion.

  6. Mets search for a new GM is getting no where. Latest to turn down the job is Dodger exec, Jeff Kingston. They have been given permission to interview Raquel Ferreiria of the Red Sox. Zack Scott has been released from his acting GM role and is no longer part of the team. He had been on administrative leave since getting a DWI in September. Mets are a mess.

    1. Depends if your an opera-type buff. Me, not so much. But anyone who jived with Bowie can’t be all bad.
