Disclaimer: If Trevor Bauer is guilty of what his accuser (who will not be named here) says he did, then he should be charged, tried, and sentenced to prison for a long, long time. To date that has not happened.
In case you have been drugged or worse, here is the timeline of the Trevor Bauer Debacle:
- April 6, 2021 – Bauer and the accuser allegedly have a sexual encounter at his home in Pasadena;
- May 16, 2021 – Bauer and the accuser allegedly have a second sexual encounter at his home in Pasadena;
- June 29, 2021 – Bauers’ accuser files a restraining order against Bauer.
- June 30, 2021 – The Pasadena Police commenced an investigation into this accusation.
- July 2, 2021 – MLB placed Trevor Bauer on administrative leave, with pay;
- August 19, 2021 – The accuser spent more than nine hours over three days in the restraining order hearing testifying about what happened during the encounters and the events that surrounded them:
- August 19, 2021 – The judge ruled in favor of Trevor Bauer on Thursday, denying a restraining order to a woman who said the star Dodgers pitcher choked her into unconsciousness and punched her repeatedly during two sexual encounters and said he did not pose a threat to her;
- August 27, 2021 – The Pasadena Police Department concluded their investigation and sent their findings to the DA without an arrest being made;
I think where the average person loses their perspective, in this case, is when the judge ruled that her injuries were not the result of anything she verbally objected to. They believe that this is somehow an admission that Bauer admitted to that. Such is not the case. This case is in contrast to the recent case of Marcell Ozuna, the Atlanta Braves outfielder, who was charged with battery and also aggravated assault by strangulation after a 911 call summoned police to his home, where officers say they witnessed Ozuna grab his wife, by the neck and throw her against a wall. He is not charged with a felony and this is the second time the couple has had something similar happen. Previously, Ozuna’s wife was charged. The couple is now in the process of getting divorced.
The DA has had the Bauer case for over two months and no charges have been filed. It is a fact that egregious and obvious criminal cases are generally filed in a much shorter order so as to protect the general public from obvious criminal activity. The DA is obviously not worried about Bauer and it appears to me that he will not be charged. I guess he could be charged tomorrow and I would be wrong. If he IS charged obviously that changes everything and he can easily be suspended for the 2022 season.
Bauer has been suspended since July 2nd and it could be reasonably argued that his suspension cost the Dodgers the NL West title, and caused them to trade their Top Prospect for Scherzer and Turner. Trevor Bauer is charged with misconduct in what amounts to a civil case. He has denied it. If no charges are filed against him, what grounds does MLB have to suspend him another season? Absolutely none!
Trevor Bauer is owed $45 million dollars in 2022. $45,000,000! That is real money. To believe that Bauer will be suspended another season without being criminally charged is lacking any logical basis in reason. If you believe that you probably believe in the following two REAL characters (yes, the one on the left is Bear… maybe not, but that is Badger on the right – he’s really a bunny).

The Dodgers are going to be hamstrung until this situation is resolved and if you are thinking Rob Manfred can do the right thing, you are probably delusional. If no charges are filed in the next few weeks, Rob Manfred is going to have to re-instate Trevor Bauer… and then what do the Dodgers do with this $45 million dollar roadblock? The solution is not clear to me, and I am not using to judgment without all the facts… and I feel certain that we have very little of the “facts” in this case. Many fans and the general public have formed opinions based upon what reporters, bloggers, and general news services have written. Let me remind you that trust in the news media is near its all-time low and the reason is simple: most people really want unbiased reporting, and they are not getting it in most cases. A 2020 study by Gallup and the Knight Foundation found that 86% of Americans think the media are slanting coverage. That’s the perception and reality might not be far behind. Be careful of what you believe… including this! However, I believe this has to be resolved soon.
P.S. I am no Bauer fan and I did this yesterday when I posted. I saved this part for today.

I want Bauer back, LA will or might need him to win another championship again … What he did or did not do off the field has nothing to do with what he does on the mound!
I don’t want to see him in the SD or SF uniform …
I read that study you referenced. Your numbers are off. Over 80% think the media is critical (vital) to our democracy, less than 50% think news is bias, and most of those are people who are critical of Fox News. As I recall most people (including me) thought the internet was the problem, not the media. And Republicans are the several % points higher the problem with distributing misinformation. Probably because they watch and believe Fox News. I’ll see if I can find that article.
Quick google search found it
https://knightfoundation.org/press/releases/gallup-knight-poll-americans-concerns-about-media-bias-deepen-even-as-they-see-it-as-vital-for-democracy/
Bauer. So far the only people who have been punished for this is the Dodgers and Dodgers fans. Bauer got a paid vacation and the lawyers are, of course, getting paid. If no charges are filed he should pitch for the team that was damaged by the allegations. If they want him to. We should know soon. Right after the World Series. Can’t talk about now. Might hurt ratings.
speaking of ratings: Rates are up about 13% over last years WS.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32497735/world-series-game-2-viewers-13-record-low-2020
A bit hard to believe if you ask me since the Dodgers always are at the top of interest and last year the pandemic pinned many of us at home during lockdowns
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I find that hard to believe and I think you misread it. Game one had the lowest ratings ever and game 2 was up 13% from that.
You must have really poor reading comprehension if that’s what you think that article said. Fox news isn’t even mentioned in the article.
Nearly half (46%) of all Americans think the media is VERY biased. Fifty-seven percent say their own news sources are biased, and 69% are concerned about bias in the news others are getting. Nine percent — driven largely by conservatives — say distrusted media are trying to ruin the country.
The first sentence says 46% think it is VERY biased.
57% say their own news sources are biased
69% are concerned about bias in the news others are getting
That does not amount to less than half, it amounts to an overwhelming majority.
Yeah, I read it. And I taught reading comprehension to Special Ed kids. Maybe you were in my class?
“Nine percent — driven largely by conservatives — say distrusted media are trying to ruin the country.”
“Sixty-seven percent of Republicans have an unfavorable view of the media, and 58% say attacks on the media are justified. But only 20% of Democrats have an unfavorable view, and 66% say that attacks are not justified. “
Conservatives watch Fox News. If you want to argue that be my guest.
The most important point of that research, in my opinion anyway, is the problem the internet proposes. You can spew any crap you want, doesn’t have to have a thread of truth in it, and millions will believe it. Don’t forget, we are way down the list of educated citizens on this planet.
If you think Fox is the problem and the crap you read is legit, you were probably in the class and are remembering it wrong.
I didn’t know a degree in PE qualifies you to teach Special Ed. Good thing you weren’t teaching math because it’s obviously not your strong suit.
I had a minor in Soecial Ed, and Adaptive PE. Curriculum Development Specialist. I’m sure none of that impresses you.
I’m not impressed with it, but I don’t look down upon it either. I think it is noble to help those who need help.
My son is working on his Special Education Teaching Credential. I’m very proud of him. But, I also know that he wants summers off so he can travel. He went to Italy for 3 weeks, I still haven’t gone.
I went the other route. I studied something technical so I can make money to give my kids and wife everything I had to do without when I was a kid. So much for my White Privilege wearing Tough Skins never getting anything at full price and not knowing what a steak was until I moved out and bought one on my own.
I put myself through college by working full time and going to school at night. No loans, no grants no help from my mom since my dad died right after my 18th birthday.
Went to Rome in early ’19, had a blast. Company paid, does not get better than that. Had some delicious pineapple on flatbread 🙂
cheers
pb+
I truly sorry to hear that BP. That must have been difficult.
I went to school on the GI bill, worked odd jobs throughout college. Work wasn’t hard to find then. As a specialist, with little experience, I lost my teaching job after Prop 13 passed. Tough go after that.
I wish your son well. He’s chosen a challenging yet rewarding career.
>> I taught reading comprehension to Special Ed kids<< while failing to admit that might be WHY they were in special ed to begin with. Just sayin' …….
“I read that study you referenced. Your numbers are off. Over 80% think the media is critical (vital) to our democracy, less than 50% think news is bias,”
The actual responses to the study cited –
46% believe the media is biased a “great deal”
37% believe the media is biased a “fair amount”
46+37 = 83
83% believe the media is biased by AT LEAST a “fair amount” or more.
You may have taught reading to special ED kids, but I hope you weren’t teaching math … or statistics … or logical reasoning.
And by “media” we’re talking about the legacy media. The majority of Democrats trust the legacy media because it provides them the product they crave.
I saw another interesting poll. The majority of Democrats have high levels of trust in U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies. They have high levels of approval of the CIA, the NSA and the FBI. The inverse is true with people who identify as conservative. They have high levels of distrust in those institutions. It confirmed what I assumed, but it is curious nonetheless. Quite a difference from your formative hippy years.
I see the Padres hired Bob Melvin as manager, good hire for them as he has had a good tenure in Oakland. I was hoping it would have been Ozzie Guillen. That would have been fun/comical and total disarray with the ego’s of Machado and Tatis being managed by Ozzie.
lol – I feel the same way. I don’t think Melvin is a guy that has experience with egos that large. The A’s usually trade away guys like that before their egos develop.
I’m glad Scioscia got an interview and glad he’s not going to manage the Padres.
People just don’t want to look at things in a reasonable or logical manner these days. They read some crap posted to some site written by some hack that want to slants everything towards a political agenda and the reader eats it up as truth, questioning nothing. It’s a sad state of affairs.
Facts are completely overlooked and opinions are treated like truth.
My wife has been a paralegal for around 20 years working in many fields including personal injury, insurance defence, family law and other areas of the legal profession. She always comes home with stories from work and I will assure you that people lie for money all the time. It’s constant. It’s routine.
When the Bauer story broke, her first thought was this was an extortion attempt. That’s also what the Pasadena Police Department alluded to when they spoke to Bauer’s “acquaintance”. But somehow, people have made up their minds that Bauer is guilty of everything this person said. No matter that she lied by omission on her restraining order, she should be believed because the “Me too” movement said you have to believe the accuser.
So far, we have only heard one side of the story. A flimsy story at that, but she’s still to be believed and Trevor should be convicted and punished based on what she said. No matter that she drove 120+ miles and met with other people before she decided to go to an emergency room for her alleged injuries. It’s amazing to me that people don’t think it’s possible that she could have self inflicted some or all of these injuries for a big payday. Especially a person with such low moral values that she’s been passed around the Padres clubhouse like Albert’s bat was passed around in the Dodgers dugout.
She was fired from her job with the Padres because of her breaking rules prohibiting sexual relationships with players.
She had a relationship with Tatis Jr. and somehow he’s barely implicated in any wrong doing.
She had a relationship with Mike Clevinger, who is married and obviously in the dog house as a reslut (I mean result, excuse the typo but I thought it more fitting to leave it here than correct it).
She freely admitted to having a relationship with Bauer in order to distract him from pitching against her favorite team.
She lied by omission on the restraining order paperwork.
She is the AA club and has been a member for close to 10 years.
This is the person you want to believe taking her words at face value?
This is the person you want to believe is the victim in this case?
I maintain that she is the predator and Bauer is the victim in this case. The facts listed above support my viewpoint. The judge’s decision on the restraining order supports my viewpoint.
When I was a teenager, I kept company with some unsavory individuals. I knew a guy that had a pretty fugly “girlfriend”. She was a “slump buster” of sorts. He was completely out of her league as he was tall, well built and charismatic and she was let’s just say startling and not in a good way. Just about every weekend he would get her to go to the store and write a check for party supplies. Cases of beer, meat for the BBQ ect. over and over again. No one at that age had enough money to pay for those things. She would write rubber checks over and over again and eventually went to jail for it.
On the other end of the spectrum, I knew a kid that so distraught over a breakup with his girlfriend that he hung himself from a tree in her front yard to get back at her. I’ve know people that have done self harm in the form or cutting themselves, and rampant drug use, alcoholism and may other crazy things I’ve seen people do for a hell of a lot less that than a potential multi-million dollar payday.
My point is that people will do some crazy things, so I don’t find it out of the realm of possibility that that this woman target Bauer for a payday. She set him up, then made it look a lot worse in order to get him back for not showing enough interest in her or just purely for the potential payday.
If this is the case, I don’t see any reason his career should be ruined by some unsavory individual. Sure, he did something stupid by getting involved with her in the first place. But, it’s entirely likely that most of her claims are greatly exaggerated, if not complete lies.
Taking this into account, he’s still possibly the best pitcher they have going into next season. I really don’t see any reason not to bring him back next year and I don’t think AF is just going to dump an asset without getting anything of value back in return.
Now, I’m sure there will be many who disagree with my opinion. Those that want the Tomahawk Chop banned but have no problem putting Pineapple on their pizza. Those that are manipulated by politicians and the media to give up their liberties vs those who realize that liberties are more important than feelings.
As DL so eloquently put it yesterday… blah, blah, blah. Most of it anyway
But to what made sense in that lengthy post…. I’ll have to read it again and get back to you.
I mostly agree with Mark on this. We don’t know all of what happened. We know they had rough sex, we know she asked for it, twice, and we know she had sex with Padres. I think it’s possible Tatis put her up to it. Guess we’ll know soon.
Blah, blah, blah. That must be what reading words looks like to someone with poor reading comprehension, ADD, or Alzheimer’s. Of course you have to read it again, and again and again. You probably don’t know you just proved my point about poor reading comprehension. You’re like LeBron James. You claim to be educated, but that book in your hand is always on page 1.
I must say, a slow learner as well. Why do you constantly call me out? Are you a masochist?
Just returning the favor.
After rereading that post I agree with a lot of it. I rescind 2 blahs. Too wordy though. Get to the point quicker. Clear, concise I’ll give you a B+.
I post first draft. If I knew I was being graded, I would do at least one round of edits.
No I won’t.
It’s good to review your work. And peer reviews should be seen as useful.
From University of Michigan psychology professor Stephanie Fryberg, who is widely recognized as the leading expert on Native American mascots and their effects: More than 20 years of research, she said, shows Native American mascots decrease Native American youths’ self-esteem and their belief in the worth of their community. They increase anxiety, stress and suicide ideation. The psychological benefits for Indigenous people being associated with mascots, Fryberg said, are nonexistent.
Enjoy your pizza.
>>Leading expert on native mascots<< That's a thing?!?! HAHA
EXACTLY what I would expect some uber-lib, non native white professor to say.
I have actually experienced this first hand and call bullspit on that. Around 18yrs or so ago when we lived in Fallbrook they went through this exact scenario, our local HS was the Warriors & there was consideration whether they should change it. Well for decades native peeps had been going to our HS as there is a rez right across the 15 from Fallbrook. The outcry was large & loud from the native community to keep the name as they were PROUD that their school had the name & that it was an honor to go to a school that recognized native culture in their name & mascot image. The name stayed. That is real world vs some person who thinks they are god's gift to a particular opinion. And a psyche prof? HAHAHA I can pretty much assure you this person also thinks there are innumerable genders too. Also total bullspit.
I think it’s possible that the “Leading expert on native mascots” is the only expert on native mascots. That’s like being the leading expert on penguin racing.
A good read on my exact point 🙂
pretty low bar
Is penguin racing a thing?
If there is OB, there is FOR SURE these days some college prof getting way too much $$cabbage$$ to study it. and don’t get me started on where peta stands on this issue. 🙂
So what does more harm?
A baseball team called the Braves that portrays Native Americans as fierce warriors.
Or
A psychologist that portrays Native Americans as weak individuals that blame suicides on sports mascots.
Why is it that you fully support these narratives but completely dismiss and mock me with your racist attitude towards my very real concerns about pineapple on pizza?
You sir, are a racist and a hypocrite.
It’s funny how no one has a problem with Yankees, Vikings, Cowboys, Canucks, Knickerbockers, Trojans, Spartans, Fighting Irish, Celtics, Vandals, etc.
Why is that these cultures don’t have a high suicide rate from the use of these mascots, but Indian tribes do? Maybe it doesn’t have anything to do with mascots at all. That’s what logic and reasoning would lead you to believe.
And you are the poster boy for white privilege.
I’m not white. I’m brown. Ask Patch, we met in person.
I had no privilege. My dad was blue collar. He did brick and concrete work before I was born after serving in the Navy. Then he owned a liquor store that was burned down in the Watts riots. He was a merchant marine practically my whole life.
As usual you don’t know what you’re talking about and make assumptions about others to justify your pitiful existence.
Simply labeling someone as a racist or imbued with some nebulous and magical concept as “white privilege” certainly is much easier than actually addressing the argument, but that’s a feature, not a bug of your line of reasoning.
He’s white (or so you assume), therefore his opinion is immediately disqualified. His point of view and life experiences that influence it have less inherent value because he’s white.
Naw …that’s not racist or anything.
Yeah, and B&P can pass as non-white if he wanted.
Pitiful existence. Don’t say that your my hero.
You’re
omg …… a totally invented construct. As real as 57 different genders.
SHEESH DUDE
Good information MP. I think we should be more responsive to the expressions of minorities. And a psychology professor with 20 years of research certainly is more credible than a few blowhards on the internet. Thanks for that useful knowledge.
Modern psyche is almost totally made up BY those who claim to be psyche experts.
Almost worthless in society. And in fact does more harm than good w/their bullshit constructs.
I don’t find University level psychology research necessarily bullshit constructs. She sounds like someone who would certainly know more about the subject than you or I do. Why are you so quick to dismiss her work. Could it be because of your own bias?
If you mean my own personal bias towards an uber lib white woman who is actually “University Diversity and Social Transformation Professor of Psychology” saying ANYTHING that is remotely believable, YEP. Just that title says it all. A TOTALLY pre-conceived notion of what SHE THINKS the world should look like & then does “studies” to supposedly prove her point. So thanks for forcing me to look her up as it 100% supports my initial conclusion made b4 I did so. Just my opinion, but I also know shared by many is that, anything but a STEM degree is just about worthless except for to suck monies up from kids that would be better off going into something useful like trades which are very short workers & actually contribute to the good of society.
You sound pissed again.
Take a deep breath.
That is just a typical reply from you when you actually have nothing to say. Tantamount to I know you are but what am I? And with you, 180deg differing opinions typically get that “you sound mad”. Why would I be? This is just a blog of many w/differing opinions. Not ONE THING here makes be “mad” or upset except when there are games & we lose. Opinions and being mad at those of others? First world problems, that are WAAAAAY down the importance list and most don’t even make the list. I fully support your right to say any crazy, unsupported opinions & in fact they get lots of sly smiles from me. So thanks for that!
cheers
pb+
Now you sound like a pretentious know-it-all.
Pretentious? NOT. Know it all? YES. Bow to your master!
HAHAHAHA
How about Dr. Brittney Cooper, a professor in the Rutgers Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies department who goes by the Twitter moniker “ProfessorCrunk,” appeared on a September YouTube interview with writer Michael Harriot of The Root to discuss Critical Race Theory and recent attempts to oppose it being taught in elementary and high schools?
Citing the need for “honest conversations,” a controversial Rutgers professor declared in a recent interview that “White people are committed to being villains,” and “We gotta take these motherfuckers out.”
Yep all from the same “tribe” 🙂
About 15 seconds after I read the allegations made against Bauer, I thought about the Duke Lacrosse case. That incident has stuck with me as a lesson about not jumping to conclusions without knowing all the facts. I said it then and I say it now.
No question the media is slanted, personal opinions working their way into regular news stories. Not all stories reflect that, but some do and that’s a problem. I talk with former media all the time and we all have the same opinion. Not like this back in the day.
There is a difference between “columns” and editorials which may reflect opinions and the straight news story. What Mark writes comes under the column or commentary piece.
There is little chance that Trevor Bauer avoids a lengthy suspension, no matter what the DA does. History supports that.
Whether you believe that is fair or not is based on opinion. Opinions will vary. But the reality is simple. Until MLB steps forward with a decision, it’s a fiscal road block for the Dodgers moving forward. Will it be the deciding factor in the Dodgers pursuit of Corey Seager or Chris Taylor? Probably not. Since the Dodgers base budgets over a multi year period those type of signings had to be already figured into the equation.
If signing a Bauer mean’t they would not be able to re-sign Seager then they should have never made the commitment. The fact the Dodgers again led baseball in attendance and the difference is something like a half a million fans indicates the organization has the financial wherewithal to ease past a $45 million miscalculation.
The Dodgers may not be printing money, but they have a lucrative operation. That said, the team will not be bringing back all their free agents. There are both short and long term issues to consider. Since pitching is the key to MLB success, I would think they focus their resources on that area. Maybe that means they ink Max Scherzer to a two or three year deal, although you have to weigh the risk of putting a sizable commitment to a 37-year old pitcher.
Clayton Kershaw is simply in a different place. What he means to the organization, the history, puts him in a different category.
All this being said, I’m guessing the Dodgers expect Bauer to be suspended. That means his contract dollars will be available. They are simply waiting for the verdict to come down from MLB, then they can comment. Using hindsight, I think they will admit Bauer was a mistake.
If you’re looking for logic or comment sense to prevail, good luck. We live in a crazy society and Bauer is a bad look for baseball. Has been for a while with his comments or interactions with some women.
What the DA does and what MLB will do are different and there is no real connection between the two. For the DA, it’s really based on whether they take on another high profile case, knowing that past cases haven’t gone well. Then there is the debate about making a statement in these kind of cases.
In any case, Mark, you covered the topic well.
“If no charges are filed against him, what grounds does MLB have to suspend him another season?”
These grounds: http://content.mlb.com/documents/2/9/2/296982292/Major_League_Player_Joint_DV_SA_CA_Policy_English_2018.pdf
Sam Dyson was not charged by prosecutors. They didn’t think they had a legal case. MLB suspended him anyway for the entirety of 2021 … because the legal system and MLB’s own domestic violence policy are not inextricably linked.
Trevor Bauer is toast.
His legal team will sue somebody. Hopefully, it’s the MLB and the Dodgers can stay out of it, which they’ve done successfully so far.
At some point we will all be arguing about the subtle legal minutiae of consent and whether Bauer’s actions rise to the level of assault when partial consent is given, … etc. etc. It will be like any other public and controversial legal case. It will be an annoying distraction.
Before I give myself too much of a headache going down this rabbit hole, I think a couple of points need to be made:
Bauer’s problem is, even if the woman gives consent to rough sex or Bauer choking her until she’s unconscious, if he then punches her or engages in sex acts not consented to when she is unconscious, then that really isn’t consent. It’s messy and complicated … and I hope the Dodgers can find a way to get out of it.
What makes it more complicated is the modern reality that acting out rape fantasies is, like it or not, a not uncommon occurrence between consenting adults, and is gets more exposure in popular culture.
Take, for example, the recent controversy of Alec Baldwin’s shooting of that director of photography on his movie. There are people on movie sets – the armorer – whose job it is to manage the prop weapons and ensure they are safe. The armorer on this particular set was a 24 year-old woman who liked posting videos on TikTok.
Here’s one. Warning, though. If you’re easily offended, you might want to avoid it.
https://twitter.com/ElijahSchaffer/status/1452178812058226688?s=20
So, a couple of takeaways I got from this:
1. Not a chance in hell I’d want this person in a position of responsibility handling weapons that I would be using. Not that posting stupid videos makes her an unqualified person, or a bad person. It makes her an UNSERIOUS person. Her unseriousness most likely resulted in an oversight that resulted in someone’s death. How you approach life matters.
2. When I actually listened to the lyrics in that song I actually thought of the Bauer case. There are a LOT of people like this, and if they are willing to post their rape fantasies to the entire world on TikTok, and use a song out there in popular culture that portrays rape fantasies, you can probably conclude that it’s common.
This is what the losers like Dustin Nosler and Molly Knight won’t acknowledge. Their outrage is ENTIRELY political. They hated him from the beginning because he once Tweeted something in support of the Orange Man.
I don’t want Bauer on the team because, like this dumb girl, he’s not a serious person … and a creep if he enjoys punching women. I want players who are committed to helping the team win a world series, not be a distraction. Freidman took a gamble that Bauer’s weirdness wouldn’t be a distraction or a disruption. It was a calculated gamble. He lost that gamble, and he’s not going to throw good money after bad. That’s not how smart investors or smart gamblers operate. Good investing/gambling requires self discipline to control one’s impulses, which Bauer didn’t have.
Of course he’s toast.
This whole discussion is silly, but there’s nothing else to talk about so let’s make up counterfactuals about Trevor Bauer!
My IT guy says it was a private matter (it is!)
A paralegal said it sounds like a set-up (it could be!)
This ex-Army person can’t find any precedents (there may, thankfully, not be!)
My plumber thinks Pasadena may not press the case (why would they?)
None of this matters.
One thing I don’t agree with is the consent issue.
If
She says it’s okay to go in the backdoor
And
She says it’s okay to choke her unconscious
And
She said it was pleasing when he was doing his thing when she was coming to
I would think consent to go in through the back door while she’s napping is implied.
Therefore, he did not violate the consent clause in MLB’s sexual conduct rulebook.
I broke this out in this way so it’s easy to follow the logical argument.
it’s well broken out.
Even if we presume all that consent (which I think will be tough) was given, he’s still toast.
I’ve been on the Internet since modems, excite and web crawler with Netscape. I have learned that some people can not be convinced that it’s raining even if they’re standing in it soaking wet. You’re entitled to your opinion, facts be damned.
There is no presumption. It’s all in her own words taken from her own texts.
If he is indeed “toast” it’s because MLB is not following its own rules and it’s being done as a personal vendetta by Manfren. I don’t think that’s a good strategy to follow when you have to come to agreement with the Players Union on a myriad of issues leading into the next CBA.
Interesting.
I guess what I don’t understand is who you think actually wants Bauer to be back?
The Players Union (association?) could have at any moment advocated that Bauer should be re-instated.
They haven’t.
The Dodgers when they were short on arms could have said, “Y’know, this is all an issue that takes place in private. While we don’t agree with it, we don’t think it’s anyone’s business what Trevor and his girlfriends do. But he’s a great pitcher, a great team-mate and we want him back.”
They haven’t.
Bauer could say, “I’ve paid my dues, this woman entrapped me. I’m innocent until proven guilty. Let me pitch.”
He hasn’t.
Guggenheim could have said, “Hey, we only have this guy for 2 years. We’ve already lost half a year. Enough is enough. If there’s any decision to me made, it should be a Dodgers’ decision.”
They haven’t.
Bauer would make Roberts’ job massively easier. He said nothing. Sure, he’s a company man. But he’s still said nothing.
Because this scenario if a NIGHTMARE. It involves beating a woman. Nobody, NOBODY, will ever want to answer a question about it.
“Dave, the bats were quiet today when Trevor made his start. Do you think a few players are uncomfortable with him in the dugout?”
“Mookie, what does your wife think about you being teammates with Bauer.”
Do you think Magic Johnson wants to be asked about his team having a guy like Bauer on his team?
It’s been reported that some team-mates don’t want him back. That cannot be dispelled as “fake news” Even if some here think it’s fake news.
I just don’t think there’s a single advocate ANYWHERE for Bauer to not be suspended for a year. Maybe I’m missing someone. I even include Bauer on that list.
And to the idea that this is just a Manfred thing? He’s nothing. He’s a figurehead for the owners. Zero owners want Bauer back.
I deal with VC people all the time. You know what they hate more than missed numbers? They hate noise. They hate stories or questions or narratives that are not about increasing value and seeking exits.
VC guys are metaphorically next-door neighbors to owners. Often they are one and the same.
Patience. After the World Series all will be revealed.
There’s no fact in any point you made.
Who wants Bauer back? Who doesn’t?
The Players Union – No they couldn’t, not without the player asking for it.
The Dodgers were short on arms – You can’t expect him to be ready with less than a month remaining on the season.
I’ll stop there because nothing you said is grounded in reality. You’re posing question that you think you know the answer for, but each answer is wrong.
Bauer said the truth will come out after all pending cases are dismissed.
“Your comment is awaiting moderation. This is a preview; your comment will be visible after it has been approved”
I’m in moderation jail again.
You are out!
Then you are better off than I am. My post was deleted for whatever reasons. I only wrote about the Tv ratings for the WS with a link to an ESPN article.
Go Dodgers!

Ron Darling on Dodger’s mismanagement of pitching staff.
Kinda funny that two conflicting accounts regarding Dodger’s decision making process and how it works.
AF said all in game decisions are Doc’s,
Doc says we discuss things before the game, but he only gets one vote.
I have mixed feelings about bringing Kershaw back. He’s the greatest pitcher I have ever seen in a Dodgers uniform. But, he’s also choked away more postseason games than I have ever seen by a pitcher in a Dodgers uniform.
I would love for him to come back and have some dominant stretches next year. I would be sad to see him retire at such a young age. On the flip side, I’m scared that he’ll come back next year and injuries or poor performance will cost them another title. I secretly want him to retire so we won’t be put into that situation next year.
But, he’s also choked away more postseason games than I have ever seen by a pitcher in a Dodgers uniform.
Of course, he has pitched more innings in the postseason than any other pitcher in Dodgers history.
Koufax’ legend was built on 57 postseason innings.
Clayton has pitched 189 innings.
But Koufax had pitched over 300 innings twice before most of that 57 so clearly he was more prepared.
In 30 postseason starts, he have up 4 or more earned runs in 11 of them. He’s 13 – 12 lifetime in the postseason with a 4.19 ERA. I think we can all agree that we expected more from a sure thing 1st ballot HOF’er.
Koufax had a .95 lifetime postseason ERA and three rings. He had a 4-3 record, but only allowed 1 ER in each of his three losses.
Not to mention that if they had the medical tech back then that we do now, the sky was barely even the limit to where Sandy’s records would have ended up.

Koufax had Dr. Robert Kerlan. Even with him consulting it would not have made much difference. He was felled by the type of arthritis he developed in his pitching arm. There is no cure for arthritis. You can alleviate the pain some, but the damage to the joints is permanent. Some forms can be relieved by surgery. But Sandy had rheumatoid arthritis. Kerlan told him in 65 he would be lucky if he could pitch once a week.
“ Call out the instigators because there’s something in the air, we’ve got to get together sooner or later because the revolutions here, and you know it’s right”
( Thunderclap Newman’s ‘ Something in the Air’ )
Oh don’t we all know we’re right !
“ saying, hooray for our side “
( For What it’s Worth )
For what’s it’s worth, good song. Buffalo Springfield Retrospective is a great album.
One of the best ever. It also has a quirk. If you have the cd and load it to windows media player, it distorts and you cannot play it. I know this for a fact as I have had 3 different discs all do the same thing when I try and load them to the app. I have performed “For What It’s Worth ” for years. Love that tune.
A regional classic !
Steven Stills wrote the song and didn’t have a title for it. As I understand he wrote it very quickly. He walked into his producers office and dropped it on his desk and said, “ for what it’s worth “. That wasn’t the name, but it stuck.
Yep. He could have called it a lot of different names. Most songwriters will use the chorus as the title. He could have easily named it Everybody Look What’s Goin Down.
A couple of baseball notes amid the Bauer news. Albert Pujols say’s he is definitely going to play in 22. He also is playing in the Dominican Winter League. As soon as he announced he was playing, he was traded. In their initial season, Albert was drafted by the Gigantes del Cibao. But he never played in the league. He was traded to Leones del Escogdio and will report to the team today. I find it amazing that a 41 year old first ballot hall of famer for sure is going to play winter ball for the first time in his entire career. And he is doing so to show teams he will be ready for next season. Personally, I think Pujols was one of the better stories this season. It was a feel good ride, and six inches higher, we walk off the Giants. Granted, he was a double play waiting to happen when he hit a ground ball. But he hit over .300 against LHP. And few of our RH bats did that. Trea Turner, with all of his speed hit into 5 in his time with LA. He hit into 2 in the playoffs. On another note, Bauer means little to me. But the whole mess needs to be addressed sooner than later. As for the media, I trust none of them. But I also never watch the news anymore.
You are a smart old bear dude. ANYONE who watches the boob tube for news & then believes half of what they hear is a seriously confused person. I suppose watching some “news opinion” shows is okay, as long as you know that that is exactly what it is ….. OPINION. But for hard news, one is better of seeking it out on multiple aggregate sites and searching for documents being posted to support what is being said.

PB, I have not trusted any news reporter since Walter Cronkite. That guy was one of the best ever. I remember well when he reported the death of JFK. Those tears were real. I search a lot of different news outlets on the internet and try to get the full picture. And I read Yahoo news every morning just so I am not out of the loop completely. But TV news>? Avoid it like the plague.
You should try Whatfinger …. a good aggregate site for mostly conservative views admittedly, but they just link stories from dozens of sites you would be unlikely to find unless you already know them. And like I had stated, I really do not pay attn to opinions. I focus on sites that give either proof right there, or links to documents or other proofs ( like a video ) that what they are posting is backed up by something other than opinion.

100%.
TV news. TV Opinion. The worst.
I use Google News, but I’m a quasi-power user and can manipulate my sources to remove msnbc or fox.
Several great podcasts out there.
Tell me where else you will see stuff like this:
https://www.foxnews.com/media/lincoln-project-roasted-viral-hoax-youngkin
Fox is only one of many platforms I read. But it’s one of the few that post stuff like this.
Cronkite was an institution. A little before my time. In one single episode he changed America’s belief that Vietnam was a winnable war.
People had trust in him, the media and institutions.
I grew up watching Peter Jennings.
As for straight news, I don’t know. The WSJ does a pretty good job of reporting unbiased news from a more economic perspective even if their editorial section is more traditionally conservative, but it’s a little dry and dense and kind of expensive.
I think Yahoo is one of the worst. They curate garbage from other sites such as the Huffington Post and pass it off as news, or it’s non stop Kardashian nonsense.
A single source of simple, unbiased news? … sadly I don’t think it exists.
When I hear “Trevor Bauer is toast” I immediately want to give that person $10,000 to buy lottery tickets because they know something no one else does or have them declared insane.
You pick ’em!
I agree Mark. At this point in time, there is not a person outside of the DA of Pasadena and the commissioner of baseball who have any idea of which way this will go.
He’s toast, Mark.
😉
If I was more tech savvy and had more time on my hands I’d superimpose Bauer’s face on a piece of toast and post it here ..because that would be hilarious.
He’s toast
Just found this little tidbit on the Dodgers history page. The Dodgers were known as the Dodgers in Brooklyn from 1911-1957. The team with that name had a .544 winning pct. The Dodgers while playing in Los Angeles have a .544 winning pct. As the Superbas, it was .460. The Bridegrooms and Grooms were over .500. I love these fun old facts. History is a hoot.
Sadly the guy so many hold up as the last honest, straight talking news man, W.C. was biased and used his platform to push his agenda. It’s part of human nature. I like what Ronald Reagan advocated, “ trust but verify”. Without the verification beware.
And back in the day you pretty much had to believe them as there was no way to actually check them. I think even back then & maybe even more so then, they just told us the lies the govt wanted them to tell us. So many lies & half truths from the past that it is impossible to know just how many. On TV, just by picking which stories they will cover, they can drive the narrative right where they want it since they can only cover a smidgen of what is going on.
cheers

All very true. But there where some you just took at face value. And they delivered news good and bad in the same fashion. The media was very careful about the things they would print about or talk about when Kennedy was president. They genuinely liked the guy and walked on eggs as far as his personal life. In the political arena, he got as much flak as most. And a lot more when the Bay of Pigs fiasco came about. I always liked Jerry Dunphy when he was the # 1 guy on CBS’s local LA news. George Putnam was also one I could listen to. They always go with the stories they feel will generate higher ratings.
See ya at 10 see ya then
BAUER will end up somewhere like Detroit after his suspension. Still playing, but in purgatory like Hinch. I admire that he refused to submit to this ugly shakedown for a nondisclosure settlement. I was totally WRONG in believing he would pay her off. MLB wants this to go away with as little stink as possible, because if he’s charged and it goes to court, Tatis, Clevenger , and God knows how many former and active Padres are gonna get pulled in.
It’s going to be a long off-season if the type of comments on this site for the last couple of days persist.
My hope with Bauer is that he is mostly off the Dodger payroll and if playing that it is not on the Dodgers. Who cares why or why or why or why not it is fair. We won’t agree and I am fine with that. It just is my preference.
I like Hawaiin pizza. Who would have guessed saying that would be controversial?
I like baseball and therefore I like the World Series.
I think team names like Redskins is clearly wrong but Braves is a good name and I enjoy the chant. Singing and chanting in a group is healthy. Singing in groups calms heart rates and boosts endorphin levels and the long list of other benefits might make group singing more valuable than exercise.
Maybe wean the chop out of the chant and eliminate mascots that demean our original native Americans and get rid of the tomahawk on the front of the Braves uniforms.
Have to agree with you there Bum. And who knew the term bullpen was offensive to bulls?? I think that is going a little to damn far.
“It’s going to be a long off-season if the type of comments on this site for the last couple of days persist. ”
Could not agree more. This site is circling the drain at the moment. Some of the posters here need to knock off any/all political bullshit. True Blue LA has a lot of non-baseball discussions (yawn, especially the food stuff) but at least they do not tolerate discussions about politics and religion. I commend them for that and wish one of the so-called moderators on this board would grow a pair.
You left out the last part of what you meant:
…”and do exactly what I say!”
I thought some of the political stuff was spirited, but I don’t think it’s gotten ugly yet. … unless you feel really that strongly about friggen pineapple.
The only gratuitous insult that I saw was from you, actually.
Would you say calling someone the “poster child for white privilege” was appropriate?
Is Mark here to save you from your own lack of self control?
That’s why you don’t cave to any of it. Give an inch and a mile is taken.
But who gets to say what is demeaning to native americans. they are as split as the country is. as manfredo noted ( and it kills me to give him credit for anything ) the closest “local tribe” to hotlanta is a tribe in NC a couple hours away. They have given their blessing & say they are proud of the Braves name. Other tribes have come out and said it is insulting. So who gets to choose? The ones in the closest geography? Or, the ones making the most contrary noises? You cannot even find agreement in news stories you find. One that has had more traction than most is the recent change by the Redskins. I can find a survey that says 90% of native peoples DID NOT find the redskins name offensive, then I can find one that goes 49-38 the other way w/the rest undecided. Who are we supposed to believe?
I thought the chant was the problem.
Seriously.
The chant was a cheap facsimile of a Native American war dance chant.
I think that’s what people are having a problem with.
If I were the Braves I’d simply reach out to the Native tribes and make an offer. Donate a million bucks to create a project to research, record, and catalog as many Native war dance chants as possible. Preserve them for posterity. Give recognition and respect to their culture. I would imagine they’d feel a little better about dumb white people making a bad version of the chant at baseball games.
Waiting for PETA to protest calling a baseball hit into the outfield a ‘flyball’ , it’s so insensitive.
Fly balls are next.
( do they have them? )
Ha.
And fowl balls. Too foul? As Vin once said when a chicken was being chased around the field: “Well, it’s in fowl territory”
Bring them over, I have a “cannabis inspection scope” that will get you right down to the short hairs. 🙂
People looking to be offended will usually be successful. Many team names would probably offend someone if that’s what they are looking for. In the NL West, we have Giants and medicine tells us that being a Giant is usually the result of an adenoma of the pituitary gland, causing emission of too much growth hormone during childhood. Certainly, you wouldn’t call someone a giant now.
We also have Padres. That’s Spanish for father of course, but it was meant to represent the development of California by Father Serra and other missionaries. We know that statues of Father Serra are being ripped down all over the state because he was allegedly unkind to native peoples. Knowing what we know now, would we name a team after Father Serra?
During the Cold War, the Reds were called the Red Legs. In 1953, the team owner let the press know that he preferred Red Legs because he didn’t want the team associated with the threat of communism. From 1956- 60, they removed the name “Reds” from the team logo. Anti-communists probably hate the name “Reds” and leftists probably hated the “Red Legs”.
Pittsburgh has Pirates. Great – a team named after sea-going thieves. Nothing to be offended about there.
It’s the same with every sport. How about Scandinavian people being offended about being Vikings. Vikings were marauders, murderers, rapists and thieves. Nothing there to be offended by.
The Braves have been the Braves for 150 years (see their uniform patch). When did some people discover that they were supposed to be outraged about this? And what’s insulting about calling a team Braves?
Actually, I would wager, how things are going, the Padres might be next.
During the riots last year there were was more than one Juniperro Serra statue pulled down.
The Spanish attempts to Catholocize the California Indians is considered genocide by those Woke fanatics that are trying to upend traditional civilization.
After the overwhelming American/South Vietnamese victory in the 1968 Tet Offensive, Walter Cronkite announced that Tet was clear evidence that we could not win in Vietnam. Hardly an objective or unbiased journalist. ……. “The bloody experience of Vietnam is to end in a stalemate. To say that we are closer to victory today is to believe in the face of the evidence, the optimists who have been wrong in the past. To say that we are mired in stalemate seems the only realistic if unsatisfactory conclusion.”
Kennedy said as much in an interview long before we got so deeply involved.
But Kennedy wasn’t a journalist claiming to be unbiased; nor was he contradicting the clear results of a recent battle in the service of an anti war agenda.
No, but he said it long before Cronkite. Kennedy was stating what he believed to be the facts.
Max Scherzer wins the Players Choice pitcher of the year award. Nelson Cruz won the Clemente award. Betts, Muncy and Pollock candidates for Gold Gloves. I do not believe this site is circling the drain. I know of some other sites that do not garner a 8th of the feedback this one does.
