Where Do You Draw the Line?

AKA/The Sex Blog!

I have a few questions:

Is it legal for a man and a woman to have sex if they are not married?

Is it legal for a man and a woman to have sex if they are married?

Is it legal for a man and a man to have sex if they are not married?

Is it legal for a man and a man to have sex if they are married?

Is it legal for a woman and a woman to have sex if they are not married?

Is it legal for a woman and a woman to have sex if they are married?

Is it legal for three (4,5, 6, 7, 8, etc) to have sex if they are not married?

Is it legal to have “rough sex” if you are not married?

Is it legal to have rough sex if you are married?

What is rough sex and when does it cross the line?

Is it legal for a man to have sex with a goat, chicken, sheep, or skunk?

Only one of those questions is ridiculous. Different people have different ideas about all the rest, but if you think the last question is legal, you are a sick individual. Has Trevor Bauer admitted to “rough sex” with the accusing woman? Yes. But, he has not said how rough. He does not have to say that right about now, nor will his lawyers allow that. There will be a time and place for that… and maybe it will be in a criminal court, but with each passing day, I believe that it becomes less likely.

If Bauer had done and admitted what many of you think he has done, he would be charged already. Most of the National Writers who write about this have absolutely no clue. They saw the photos and accusations and have connected the dots. Maybe Bauer is guilty… maybe he is not, but those who believe the accusations are true and that he “has admitted them” are sadly mistaken. If he had admitted it, he would have already been charged.

I have no opinion as to his guilt or innocence. I do not like Trevor Bauer, but I think he is amusing. I have rooted for him because he was a Dodger. I have no opinion as to what will happen unless he is criminally charged. If he is charged, his career is likely over, regardless of the outcome… at least his Dodger career. Let the process play out, but if he is not charged MLB and Rob Manfred have a big problem and they have to figure out how to handle it.

Jumping to conclusions is not an Olympic Sport!

    1. If Bauer pitches for the Dodgers next year are you going to say goodbye Dodgers as well?

    2. It didn’t read like he was making excuses, the article was simply stating the obvious and that is none of us really know what happened or under what circumstances did the “hook up” happen. Are there facts in mitigation to what we’ve heard through media accounts or are there facts that aggravate what we’ve read in the media? No one really knows with the exception of the police, the DA and accused and the accuser.

If that objective and very reasonable position causes you to leave LADT……bye bye!

    3. Don’t let the door hit ya. There are plenty of “Dodger sites” that will welcome you and encourage you in your quest to find someone guilty based on ONE SIDE of a two sided story.
And Mark ….. sex blog?! HAHA. Salty day on LADT.

  1. Right or wrong,it’s perception that will prevent Bauer from ever throwing another pitch as a LA Dodger. There will be another team that will eventually sign Bauer after the Dodgers release him and still paying the remainder of his contract unless he settles with them at a lower amount and moves on. He is not worth the drama and distraction from the actual game itself he will cause.

    1. Perception will change when the DA announces it will not bring charges and after a long offseason complete with a labor strife, threats of a strike, etc. The drama and distraction happened this season and we’re 1 game back with the top home and road attendance in the league. Show me an example of a still great player making top dollar for a contender that was released for some other team to pick him up.

I don’t understand how you came to this conclusion. Can you show any examples?

Like I said, I can see the Dodgers trading him if they get quality back. I don’t see them cutting an elite player and paying top dollar for him to play on another team when they’re still trying to win rings.

Your idea of him somehow taking less money is pure fantasy. The players union does not allow contracts to be lowered.

I don’t get how people want to punish other people based solely on accusations these days. There wasn’t even enough “evidence” to get a restraining order. That’s a pretty low bar.

What country do all of you Bauer haters live in? It’s no wonder why the government feels it can stomp over everyone’s rights when people are so willing to give them up. You’re all crazy!!!

      1. Agree 100% BP. The court of public opinion has joined hands with the cancel culture. To the detriment of everyone, especially those taking part in it.
        cheers

  2. As recent as 2017 the answer to your last question was, in Texas, yes. And I think the Rangers could use an upgrade in pitching.

  3. I don’t believe it’s any coincidence that we haven’t heard a thing about where this stands legally. It will all be resolved after the season because too much money is on the line in MLB to have the black eye nationally exposed. Whatever is to be decided will be decided after the World Series is over.

Any fan’s personal opinion on Bauer is meaningless. I personally don’t give a damm what went on between those two. I’m not so naive as to believe this is unusual and/or unacceptable behavior. I happen to know this kind of activity is quite popular among consenting adults. My take? Simple. What people do behind closed doors is their business, not mine. As for the accusations at this point that’s all they are and there have been many men, some of considerable high social and political standing, that have been accused of bad behavior yet continued doing their jobs as lawyers and courts continued doing theirs, which is to drag proceedings out into as many billable hours as possible.

The Dodgers have moved on. Bauer is finished here. As to the question if he pitches again somewhere else, who gives a sh*t?

  4. Not even a fun read, and a useless one to boot.

Legality is, for a multiple time, irrelevant. As are individual personal (yours, mine) views on the issue. The aggregate does matter.

It’s like the Scarlet Letter or Roth’s Human Stain. What matters is the sullying. Aesthetics.

      1. I submit in some cases sullying just doesn’t matter. There are a number of cases right in our face, where that is true.

  5. Bauer is persona non grata at this point. He is not relevant to the Dodgers anymore for this season. His fate will be decided by people with more knowledge of the situation than any of us. As for whether he pitches again anywhere in the majors, all of those questions cannot be answered until all of the legal issues are resolved. Then if MLB ultimately suspends him, the MLBPA and MLB will go toe to toe to see how that issue is resolved. That being said, it does not impact the rest of this season since he will not pitch for the Dodgers.

  6. The Dodgers have far more pressing issues this off season than Bauer. They have 4 A-list free agents they need to decide which way they are going to go with. They also have a couple of B-List type players who will be free agents. These 6 players are all integral to the teams success this season. So they need to be addressed at some point. The 6? Jansen, Kershaw, Scherzer, Seager, Taylor and Kelly.

  7. I’ve seen a couple of people mention perception as a reason why the Dodgers will move on from Bauer. So far, the Dodgers refused to bench Bauer after the news broke, saying he would pitch on Sunday against the Nationals as scheduled. This forced the commissioner to come in a put Bauer on Administrative leave.

Kasten showed a flippant attitude about this situation and up until this point, the Dodgers have not said anything about Bauer in an official capacity.

Perception wise, the Dodgers did nothing to make the team look better, but somehow they are leading the league in home and road attendance. This imaginary backlash that people are coming up with is so far unfounded. How do you think it’s going to be in six months at the start of next season after a war between the players association and the commissioner’s office?

I’m not going to make a hard stand and say the Dodgers will definitely keep Bauer, or get rid of him somehow. As AC pointed out yesterday, there are legal challenges to all the proposals that people on this site are suggesting.

All I can see is that they have a great pitcher in Bauer under contract for next year. With legal bills piling up, I don’t see Bauer opting out and renegotiating a lower contract is not even an option as the Players Association will not let that happen.

Scherzer and Kershaw are free agents, Gonsolin was injured all year, May is out until mid-season next year. That leaves Bueller and Urias as the only reliable pitchers on the roster. If you think it’s a foregone conclusion that Bauer is done with the Dodgers, I’d like to have some of whatever you’re smoking.

Then there’s the matter of innocence. The thing that people don’t seem to want to acknowledge is that Bauer “COULD” be innocent in all of this. It could be that this women set him up. It could be that she wasn’t injured by Bauer and that her injuries could have occurred during the next 12-24 hours between the time she left his house and finally went to the hospital. We already know that she lied by omission on her restraining order paperwork. Is it so hard to believe she self inflicted some of the injuries she said were caused by Bauer?

If this is true, isn’t it unfair that he was suspended at all, much less the financial hit he’s taken to defend himself and then people are calling for his job? What is wrong with people these days? Why should Bauer be punished at all if he’s isn’t guilty of anything? So far, the only judge to hear all of the evidence said he isn’t guilty of anything. Why do you want him punished? How would you like it if someone accused you of something you thought was perfectly legal and you lost your job and had to shell out a bunch of money to lawyers to protect you from false allegations?

Be careful what you with for. This is really disgusting behavior in a free society.

    1. Yes, it’s nigh impossible to think she self-inflicted injuries.

If saying that men who beat women (even with their consent) is problematic for a public facing brand is disgusting behavior in your silly eyes, I’m happy to be seen as disgusted! Just me though.

Speaking of disgusting, in general I view Blaming the victim as even more disgusting. But you’re digging a hole pretty deep, why not just keep digging.

      1. If you and I agreed to a boxing match and I kicked the crap out of you, would that mean I assaulted you? Should I go to jail for it? Should I lose my job?

Is Bluto your real name, or did you choose to use a name after a cartoon character that was routinely rough with women? Or are you so self-unaware that you don’t see the irony?

I’m not victim blaming at all. You’re the one who’s victim blaming. I see this for what it is, and extortion attempt by a severely disturbed individual trying to extort money from someone who worked their whole life to get it.

        1. From the use of “I saw a Bauer Jersey in the stands” to “I know you are but what am I” responses!

You are really doing a great job!

Yes, you’re very very very perceptive. When I chose Bluto all those years ago I knew there would be a woman’s violence issue. I was setting up the irony!

Here’s two big things to remember about Pluto. One is the villain two more importantly he’s fictional!

Keep digging, maybe you’ll convince that great thinker Porpoise boy Although that sounds like fait accompli.

          1. Pluto = Bluto. Obviously.

Although Pluto (the cartoon one) is also fictional, for the record.

And, now that I think about it, her propensity for unsolicited licking could be seen as sexual assault.

            That was a joke.

          2. You can change the name anytime you want. You foolishly blame your indiscretion because a “women’s violence issue” wasn’t at the forefront of politics at the time? That makes it okay in what world?

Why do you want to associate yourself with a villian who abuses women? Oh, it’s okay because it’s fictional? Well the Trevor Bauer incident is also fictional according to the only judge that ruled on it.

Then to bring up Porpoise Boy because you don’t like what I’m saying? You’re a silly little man, aren’t you? The exact opposite of Bluto who lives out some weird perverted fantasy with your affinity towards an oversized bully, then preaches social justice as a cover for your own delusional thoughts.

I especially like the three “very’s” with no commas. It really drives your weak argument forward. But, not as much as using the term “fait accompli” incorrectly because I don’t need to convince Porpoiseboy of anything since he’s one of the few free thinkers on this site.

Change your name, or you are willfully supporting women’s abuse and misogyny! It’s very offensive for me to see you flaunt that nickname especially in light of the Bauer situation!

          3. Strong arguments continuing!

I really like calling out the comma usage and then writing:

… with you affinity towards an oversized bully…

            and

… since one of the few free thinkers on this site…

            Et tu, Brute?

Speaking of changing your fake name (something I turn to you for advice over) when Bauer is suspended here’s a suggestion (or two) for your next name, should you change again:

            Davey Lopez’ Locker
            Ron Cey it isn’t so

      2. >>nigh impossible to think she self-inflicted injuries.<<
Really? Do you know how many people purposely walk in front of cars every year to get hit for financial gain? It is honestly quite common for people to self injure to try and collect large paydays. Though this method may be somewhat of an outlier, her documented past addiction struggles we have heard about certainly point to a mentally unstable person who is quite capable of this type of behavior. Just because it is out in left field, doesn't mean it is out of the ballpark. And you refer to her as the victim, though in fact it is entirely possible that Bauer is the actual victim, as victim of an extortion attempt. Everything is on the table because WE REALLY DO NOT KNOW. And as others have noted, though it was just the RO hearing, a FEMALE judge determined that no RO was appropriate & though she was not trying the actual assault case, she intimated that it did not seem any crime had been committed.
        cheers
        pb+

        1. Do you know how many people purposely walk in front of cars every year to get hit for financial gain?

No. How many? I bet less than 10 per year. Not claimed, actually happened.

Just in the US, will be fine.

          1. Dude, you could not carry my sack on your best day. Your petty insults are something to wear as a badge of honor. You are one clueless little dude.
TONS of people commit bodily injury insurance fraud each year.
            >>Fraud accounted for between 15 percent and 17 percent of total claims payments for auto insurance bodily injury in 2012<< . That makes it MILLIONS braintrust. Do you even know how to use a search engine? Or do you somehow ASS-UME that from your pea brain and then out of your mouth is somehow an absolute truth? Every time I see you post, it is an auto WOKETARD alert.

          2. Mentions people intentionally walking in front of cars.

Changes it to physical injury fraud quickly.

Yup, I’ll definitely say you moved the goal-posts. Textbook example, actually.

I’ll augment my diagnosis with you have no idea what Cognitive Dissonance really is either.

          3. This is physical injury fraud peabrain. Just not through auto insurance. What? You think that is the only kind. Do you live in your mom’s basement or something. I show you where MILLIONS do it, and you cannot wrap your brain around the fact the many more than 10 would also do it via other means. Seriously, what is your problem? As stated elsewhere, cognitive dissonance much? Becaues IT FITS EXACTLY
            >>>Examples include “explaining things away” or rejecting new information that conflicts with their existing beliefs.<<<
i.e. you continue to deflect everything because you would have to admit you are wrong. Hmmmm where have I seen that recently?

          4. You’ve shown nothing but incompetence and stupidity.

Maybe in your world where people by the hundreds are intentionally getting hit by cars is that something to be proud of.

You nice mention of Dean Wormer to the contrary, this attempted defense of an inane position has been pathetic.

Me: I don’t think a lot of people are intentionally inflicting damage on themselves.

            You: but there’s insurance fraud!

            Me: so?

You: let me insult you with a 3rd grade insult

          5. Last try for the low info voter.
This from the Natl Library of Medicine. And since your comprehension is so low, I will help you by stating this in no way means there are only 14, but that they STUDIED 14 of these cases.
            >>Abstract
A total of 14 cases with self-inflicted injuries intended to simulate a criminal offence are reported. Typical characteristics of self-infliction such as superficiality, localisation at the anterior aspect, parallel course or avoidance of areas with high sensitivity to pain are substantiated by most of the cases analysed. However, the majority of cases also comprised atypical features including large hematomas of the extremities, a gaping cut wound, lip laceration, hematoma of the eyelids, concussion of the brain, large burn injuries and signs of bonding. Therefore, atypical injuries, which are either found in isolation or in combination with typical injury patterns, cannot exclude self-infliction. Initially, most “victims” did not intend to report the matter to the police but the persons whose affection was to be obtained made the report. Psychopathological motivations are predominant but rational motives such as attempted insurance fraud also occur.<<
The article was about "People who self-harm for criminal intent"
Any of the injuries sound familiar? Yeah, not to you for sure.

          6. 14 people over an extended period of time in a country of 250 million plus. A statical near zero. An impossibility to occur with any commonality.

Yes, it’s nigh-impossible that this woman in the Bauer case emulated those people you have just cited.

Thank you for making yourself out to be wrong.

            Thank you very much.

          7. I know someone personally who had struck a person who jumped in my friends path for financial gain. The jumper died before gaining anything but not from any injuries resulting from that incident. So there was still an issue to prove that the jumper did it intentionally for insurance reasons of my friends rates going up. I didn’t get the jumper’s recorded admission before I put a bullet in his head……just kidding there!

  8. Back to baseball. Game today is at 4:10 Pacific time. Trea Turner is 2-4 against Gray with a HR and an RBI. JT is 2-2 against him. Bellinger hitting .278 in 7 at bats. Muncy 0-8. No Red has any HR’s off of Buehler, and only Farmer and Stephenson have RBI’s against him. TT is now 7 points ahead of Castellanos in the batting race.

      1. Just posting what it said. They changed it to .286. Which means he is 2-7. Lineup is the same tonight. First four hitters in Reds order all have 20 or more HR’s.

  9. I agree that with the Bauer situation we’ll have to let the process play out. With Manfred deciding Bauer’s fate there’s no telling what kind of decision on the penalty (if any) may be handed out. There are so many variables involved and facts that aren’t made public. It’s confusing on why the PPD took so long to investigate with so few people involved.

As Bear mentioned yesterday we were able to get together for lunch at great spot called Muggs. I walked into the restaurant and there was Bear decked out in Brooklyn Dodger jersey and hat. Awesome! After introductions he handed me a bag with a Kershaw and AJ Ellis bobbleheads. Wow. A very generous gift. We had a lengthy chat that covered a lot of topics. Bear has had an interesting life and I enjoyed learning more about him. And his memory is unbelievable! I look forward to meeting up with him in the future. Thanks Bear.

    1. Great to hear about meeting up with Bear. Glad you had a great time!

I agree completely with your take on Manfred deciding Bauer’s fate. But, he also knows as AC pointing out, he will have to deal with the Union.

I think the PPD would have already wrapped this up if it weren’t for the accuser going to the courts for a restraining order. Once that became public, the PPD had to make it look like they were considering evidence so they had to wait for the courts to complete the restraining order judgement. Just a week later, they brought the case to the DA signifying there was nothing left to review. The DA is sitting on this to politically show they are taking the allegations seriously.

    2. Anytime Ted, it was a lot of fun. And I got to show off some of my Dodger cards. And it is Mugs my friend..one G. LOL

  10. Wether legal, or not, IN MY OPINION, what Bauer did was wrong. It may not be ilegal. but Cody getting his girlfriend pregnant is also wrong. Why not marry her? I know that is an old fashioned idea, but being 78 years old I have a lot of old fashioned ideas.

  11. lol – A friend of mine from high school got a job at one of the big aerospace companies after high school. When the big wigs were onsite for inspections, he threw himself down a stairway to collect disability. Another friend of mine purposely injured his shoulder to get a discharge from the Marines. It happens all the time. And neither of them were in the AA club.

I swear sometimes I think that most of the people on this site are locked up in their houses and don’t interact with people other than on the Internet. Blindly believing everything they see on the TV and Youtube and everything they read in the tabloids, err “news outlets”.

      1. If you understood logic, you would be able to deduce that if I knew two people, than the overall result would be exponential. Judging by your worldview, logic doesn’t seem to be your strong suite. Change your nickname, it’s offensive to any women that’s been unwillingly a victim of a bully’s unwanted advances. Unlike Bauer.

        1. Perhaps the concept of “small sample size” is foreign to you?

Would it be better to reframe it as “incredibly small sample size? So incredibly small, in fact, that only a moron would suggest using it or would suggest it is logical to even think about using it?”

          1. It’s actually not foreign to me since I had to take lower and upper division statistics classes for my Bachelors of Science. It’s obviously foreign to you since I didn’t make a claim about the the population based on a sample. My advice to you is don’t swim in waters that are too deep for you.

I simply alluded to the fact that that since I know two people, the overall result would be exponential. Let me spell it out for you. My wife has worked in legal for 25 years. People lie, cheat and steal from each other for money all the time. If you want to be obtuse and think it doesn’t happen, that’s your prerogative, but you only look smart to stupid people by taking that stance. Especially when you’re nickname is Bluto and you complain about a man doing wrong to a women.

          2. 1. Let me suggest at least one refresher Statistics course? Because you surely have forgotten most of the basics there from.

            2. I bet this sentence sounded better in your head than it does trying to say you were not using the SSS bias:
I simply alluded to the fact that that since I know two people, the overall result would be exponential.

            3. How exactly did my point that very few people intentionally injure themselves before “people lie, cheat and steal” in your addled little brain?

Keep digging, you’re really making a convincing argument for your nonsense.

        2. From the fictional show; he could have chosen Popeye, Olive, WImpy, Sweatpea or Bluto, also sometimes known as Brutus depending on the year. Interesting choice within those parameters.
          cheers
          pb+

          1. Another quick trip to the search engine shows that EVERY.SINGLE.LINK in the first 300 is the loser Bluto from Popeye. Not one single other hit.
Nice try though. And I believe the actual term is “mind blown”, though perhaps you are familiar with a way to blow your head as you are so much more creative than the rest of us.

          2. refer back to “sack carrying” comment
Are you intimating you intend your name to mirror and overaged, drunken college college loser, but one who is pretty funny? Still not the best look. But hey, aim low and increase your chance of hitting the target. I guess it is better than self naming yourself Dean Wormer.

          3. First of all.

LOVE the Dean Wormer reference! What a great character.

I chose the character because it’s a fun character with a great name, Bluto Blutarski!

When it comes to fake names, what better precedent do you need than a great name, from a great character, from a great movie!

            Love Belushi too.

      2. I know someone who (or knew rather as he died recently) jumped off scaffolding at his job to get the time and financing to be retrained for his pilots license. A commercial pilot’s license in fact.

  12. Dodgers beat reporter Jorge Castillo (from the LA Times) was on the great podcast Chin Music:

    https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chin-music-episode-31-like-that-girl-in-heathers/id1555731836?i=1000535643616

IMO, that podcast is a great listen always. But Jorge has a good appearance.

    Lots of interesting informed opinions:
    1. Doesn’t think Seager is coming back
    2. Does say that veterans don’t want Bauer back.
    3. Doesn’t think the team will release Bauer, because a suspension means Bauer’s salary won’t work against the salary disincentives in the CBA.
    4. Does think the team wants Max S. back.

Also speaks about Cory Bellinger’s mechanics, the White House trip…

Love the podcast in general, but I think people will enjoy this specific episode.

  13. Bauer again?

I agree the Dodgers have more pressing issues. Who will they re-sign for 2022?

They’ve got to keep Clayton Kershaw, right? If he is healthy, I’m certain Clayton will be a lifetime Dodger. AJ Ellis, his former catcher and close friend, said as much. But what about Max Scherzer? I’m guessing they make him a competitive offer and from what I’ve read, Max really likes LA, wants the chance to win more rings. He even said he hopes to be here when Clayton gets his 3,000 strikeout. He’s 37 so I’m thinking a two year deal, maybe with incentives and pretty good money, possibly spread out over a longer period of time. Maybe even an option.

Then there is Corey Seager. One simple question resolves this for me. Are the Dodgers better with Seager than without him? The answer is obvious. He’s the three hitter in the line-up, the NL championship series and World Series MVP. He also is a product of the Dodgers system. Odds are good for Seager coming back.

Then there is Kenley Jansen. Been really good lately, but I believe Andrew Friedman saves the money and goes a different direction. Same thing with Chris Taylor. During an interview a couple of days ago, Friedman said it will be very important for the Dodgers to come up with future players like Muncy, Taylor and Vesia through trades and signings since they’ve traded some key pieces from the farm.

    1. 2017 – 104-58 with Seager
      2018 – 92-71 without Seager
      2019 – 106-56 with Seager
      2020 – 43-17 (116 win pace) with Seager
      2021 – 54-28 w/Seager (107 win pace); 40-25 w/o Seager (100 win pace)

Does that help to answer whether the Dodgers are better with Seager than without? I know some out there would say that LAD would have been just as good with Lindor or Story or Correa. But we can never know. What we do know is what the Dodgers do with Seager and what they do without. PAY HIM.

      1. How come so many games without Seager?

Pay him, of course, but, be ready for more stats that read “without Seager”.

        1. The podcast linked above brings up the point or question of:

Why did the Dodgers trade for Trae Turner if not to be Seager’s replacement?

I see that argument as pretty strong. I don’t think they intend for Turner to be at 2B next year.
I see one contrary argument, “It’s just to strengthen the team this year, and they’ll sort our the 2022 IF in 2022”.

So maybe I shouldn’t read too much into it.

          1. 1. Because he helps the team in 2021.
            2. Because you cannot predict what Seager will do, so why not be prepared.
            3. The team is much better with Turner and Seager than with Seager or Turner alone.

          2. Yeah.

That’s the build out of what I label as the contrary argument.

It makes more sense to me than Jorge, who is quite definitive on Seager departing after this year.

Maybe he has more info that’s off the record.

          3. I think what he has is knowledge that Seager’s agent is Boras, and knows that Boras has no loyalty concerns and will always go where the money is. That is why many think that he will end up in NYY. They need a SS. They have no problem with Boras. They will pay. They need a LH bat and Correa and Story are both RH. I just continue to read that he is very comfortable in LA. I am also comfortable with predicting that Seager will be the last SS to sign to build up the bidding war for his services. Another Boras specialty.

A lot of rumors that Story is headed home to Dallas (Rangers) and Correa will go to Detroit to hook up with AJ Hinch. Both teams are expected to pay for a SS. Semien is a good bet to stay in Toronto.

        2. Because TJ surgery for a SS and being hit by pitch and breaking a hand is chronic? Remind me again how many WS has Lindor and Story been in? I beleive one for Lindor and zero for Story. One Championship Series for Lindor and none for Story. Lindor has been just what NYM needed to take them over the top. Oh, never mind.

          Lindor – 2021 – .228/.325/.415/.729 following a fine 2020 of .258/.335/.415/.750
          Seager 2021 – .282/.374/.452/.827 and 2020 off .307/.358/.585/.943

Lindor has never had a >.900 OPS season and has 3 <.800 OPS seasons. Seager has 2 >.900 OPS seasons and 1 <.800 OPS season. Lindor's high OPS is .871. Seager has three higher than that. I do not put much stock in defensive metrics (DRS and UZR). Some do, I do not. I go on what I see and metrics that can be accurately measured (# of errors), Seager does not have the flash, but he makes almost every play hit to him. He has a total of 5 errors to Lindor's 9. Seager's arm is unquestioned. And his no look over the shoulder catch into short CF earlier this week did display some good range. I saw him dive for Ramos' two run single to dispel the myth that he never dives for balls. I am NOT about to say that Seager is a better defensive SS than Lindor. He is not. But he is a better overall SS. I actually enjoy watching Lindor play SS. I enjoy watching Seager play baseball much more. Perhaps with a hamstring and oblique injury this year, it is Lindor who may be breaking down. You want the flash and big smile. I will take the WS appearances.

        1. I have actually posted that in the past. I know I was not clear, kind of intended to mean “find out what he wants”. Though I do not think I would go over 4 at his age without a lot of options just in case.
          cheers
          pb+

    2. Bauer’s status does matter regarding the free-agents. Subtracting $35 million from the payroll gives the Dodgers the ability to bring back Scherzer, Kershaw, and Seager while getting under the luxury tax threshold and not being repeat offenders. Yes, the Dodgers seemingly have all the money in the world but they don’t want to pay the penalty every year for being over the threshold. I certainly prefer Seager to the other shortstops but does he prefer LA? Hopefully JT can convince him the grass isn’t always greener elsewhere.

I don’t see anyway they pick up Kelly’s option. That will save them $12 million. No one would give Kelly anything near that. JK might want to come back under a cheaper deal. Kenley? Sure but nowhere near the $20 million he’s making this year nor for anything more than 1-2 years. I trust AF to make the right call on Kenley. Then pen will get Kahnle and Ferguson back next year. If he can return to form Ferguson and Vesia should be two good lefties out of the pen.

What to do with David Price? Does he retire? Does he play the roll he did this year? Veteran leader in the pen and swingman or can the Dodgers dump the last year of his contract for $5-8 million?

Taylor will get a QO from the Dodgers but how aggressively they pursue him will probably depend greatly on Seager.

      1. One correction. Picking up Kelly’s option saves $8MM, not $12MM. He has a $4MM buyout. Can you identify one reliever who you would rather have on a one year contract for $8MM? Because that is what it will cost. No long term deal. One year. Maybe Kelly takes a 2-3 year deal at less than $8MM/year. Maybe he signs the same deal as Blake Treinen signed last year. 2 year $17.5MM with a club option at $8MM or a $1.5MM buyout. Kelly and Treinen are the same age. Kelly is actually three weeks older. Maybe I am partial to Kelly because we have the same June 9 birthday.

David Price – IMO, he does not retire. Why walk away from $32MM? MLBPA does not allow for re-negotiation of a contract. Price does not have option of being a nice guy and cutting his $32MM contract to $5MM to $8MM.

Taylor and QO. That would be a gamble, but I can see AF doing that. One year at $18mm to $19MM. CT3 will get more in total, but not in AAV. I think the Dodgers will be a player in the CT3 sweepstakes, but I think he goes somewhere he believes he will get a chance to start in one position everyday.

Seager and Kershaw will get QO. Kershaw has never been a FA. He has signed two extensions before becoming a FA, and has never had a QO. After 2018 he could have opted out and become a FA, but chose to extend 3 years before he had to opt out.

I know Bluto has offered a podcast from Jorge Castillo who says Seager leaves. I have read several just as connected who says he stays in LA. We will know soon enough, but for now he is my favorite Dodger, and I am going to continue to cheer him on to another WS championship.

        1. I was suggesting the Dodgers trade him and eat some of the money not that he would take a pay cut.

  14. Just to change the subject, I want to talk about USC football. I’m not around the program so I can only speak on things I see, hear and read.
I think SC completely bungled the situation and the firing. Why would they wait until 2 games into the season to decide on Helton? Did anyone actually think he could salvage his tenure. The threat of his firing negatively effected recruiting for 2 years or more. His 2020 recruiting class was ranked 64th in the nation. How sad is that for a brand like USC with their rich tradition?
Now since the firing was bungled it appears we are going to spend the next 2 months reviewing all the potential candidates and having the press badger them with questions about leaving their programs. For 2+ months. This is a distraction nobody needs. And SC caused it and the press eats it up. I’m sure Cristabol, Franklin, Campbell, Fleck, Wittingham, Bieniemy, O’Brien and even Urban, Petersen and Stoops have better things to do than answer or dance around the questions. Absolutely nobody needs the possible effects on recruiting with rumors or the distractions that the slut media can’t leave alone. But it was caused by USC.
A perfect example of how things are handled and why the football program is in the toilet.

    1. I respectfully disagree. I have talked to a number of those connected to the football program, and it has not hurt the recruiting at all yet. Quite the contrary. Because of the timing of the firing, recruits can take another paid visit to USC. Several who said they had eliminated USC from consideration are now agreeing to taking a second visit. One of the problems USC had with recruiting was that Helton was never considered safe. He was always on the hot seat. Most recruits and their families like Helton as a person, but knew he was in over his head.

Some of the top recruits have now come out and strongly endorsed Donte Williams and will be recruiting other recruits. Donte Williams knows LA and will not be out-recruited in LA. That was not so with Helton.

With the transfer portal, most recruits know they can change schools if their first choice is not right.

Bohn and Sosna have changed the recruiting culture at USC and have brought in people who know how to recruit. In the past, Helton’s cronies (like Defensive Coordinator Pendergast and and Secondary Coach Bradford) walked away from recruits and would not go out and recruit. Actually 2021, USC was rated #7 with 22 enrollees, including the #2 national recruit, Korey Foreman . That was because of Williams and Vic So’oto (Defensive Line Coach), and others who are now committed were brought in. USC is rated #29 for 2022, but only have 10 firm commitments. This was because players never believed Helton would last as the head coach. Now the recruits know there will be another head coach, and they know that USC will get a new coach.

For me, with the early signing period, it is better to tear off the bandaid this early and let the story get out that there will be a new coach and new expectations, rather than end up lying to the recruits that Helton will be the 2022 coach before the early signing period and then firing him after the season. Helton was never going to make it through the season. Recruits now know that the coaches and players will be held accountable. Players who believe in themselves have no problem with accepting accountability. Now they know it will be expected.

Recruits aren’t stupid. They see how undisciplined USC is. They were 110th in the country or worse for the last several years in penalties. They are one of the worst tackling teams. They continue to take field goals instead of touchdowns when inside the 10 yard line. There was never any improvement. Why let another whole year go by. I would be more concerned if I was a recruit if Helton was not terminated after the Stanford debacle and the listless play AT HOME. The administration was not going to have another scene at the Coli like what happened last Saturday. No the timing was just fine.

      1. What is the general thinking around Chip Kelly?

I don’t follow college FB much, but from what I understand he barely recruits but seems to have built a good team.

        Am I oversimplifying?

I’m a Philadelphia Eagles fan. Kelly was a very fun coach, but an underwhelming one at the pro level

        1. I am undoubtedly the wrong person to ask about Chip Kelly. Kelly was great at Oregon with Phil Knight’s $$$$. Had a great offense that is no longer unique and can be well coached against. I am not a Chip Kelly fan or a Brian Kelly (ND) fan. However, I think he is doing okay at UCLA. They are not in the College Football Playoff picture (but neither is USC), but they are improving every year (not USC). He is no Tommy Prothro, Dick Vermeil or Terry Donahue. Maybe Rick Neuheisel or Pepper Rogers (???) RudyBird and Badger are far better qualified to answer about UCLA, and PeterJ is far better about ND.

  15. I suppose when a team has a player making 40 plus million dollars a year and doesn’t play due to off-field antics there is reason to make it a topic of discussion. The Dodgers agreed to make Trevor Bauer their highest-paid player. This season, he will earn more than Mookie Betts, Clayton Kershaw, Cody Bellinger and Corey Seager. In fact, Bauer’s $40 million salary for 2021 will not only be the highest in the sport, but it also will be the highest annual salary in the history of the game. He will earn a whopping $45 million in 2022 (another record) in a contract that will guarantee him $102 million over three years.

I will also mention the vehemence expressed in here toward Molly Knight when she criticized the Bauer signing due to his history of harassing women. A few in here seem to protest political correctness and it carried over to slamming Molly. Well, she was prescient.

What the Dodgers do with their free agents and with their players they would like to lock up may well be determined with whatever cost they have with Bauer moving forward or how the MLB will treat those costs in CBT calculations.

My hope is that the DA will find that Bauer did not do what his accuser said and will not be charged and that will allow the Dodgers to trade Bauer. The Yankees need pitching and they jumped on Chapman and then there is Texas.

Seager seems to be playing good shortstop but I would rather see him at third and let Trea be the shortstop for the next 5+ years. Seager may be more clutch offensively than Trea but Trea is more entertaining.

A DP combo of Trea and Mookie would be awesome. Cory and Cody on the corners would be awesome as well. Congratulations to Lux as I just made you the center fielder.

I want Kershaw to win another WS ring and retire.

No to Jansen getting another Dodger contract.

  16. I am not saying it will happen, but I feel we are in a good position to run the table. I would bet right now that we will win more of the remaining games than the Gints do. Our rotation will be stellar and the offense continues to improve.
    Hang on
We are in for a fun ride.

    1. I’m with you Bob! The difference between this great team and this good team is health. Now that we have our top players (still missing Pollock and CT3), the team looks better on offense, defense and pitching.

Chris Taylor out of Dodgers lineup for 6th straight game

    1. 09/15/21 Los Angeles Dodgers sent RF Steven Souza Jr. outright to Oklahoma City Dodgers.

    2. Same lineup again. I like it. I do not give a rats petootie if Bauer ever wears a Dodger uni again. Never liked the signing in the first place. But the strain it puts on the Dodger financials is the worst of it. I have no clue what the legal ramifications are. I just know that without him around, the team has focused on winning and returning to first place. One game back now, and their game will almost be over before the Giants-Braves game begins. Win and put the pressure back on SF.

          1. You got it right Bear.

    3. I sure would like to see Mookie, TTurner 1-2. Put Muncy back at 3. Seems to me better to have guys hitting for more avg at the top. Oh heck, either way I like this lineup, especially the way it has worked out the last couple.
      cheers
      pb+

      1. Turner has the highest BA and you usually put your best hitter in the 3 hole traditionally. That is why JT was there for so long. I like the dynamic of Betts-Turner at the top. Betts is at his best as a leadoff hitter. Turner is actually a better hitter out of the two hole than he is leadoff. .313 avg against a .301. He has only played 18 games hitting 3rd and has a .270 average with 1 homer. Betts is hitting .300 as a leadoff hitter. He hits .307 in the 2 slot. Seager hits .293 in the 2 hole, .283 in the 3 and .330 in the cleanup role. He also hits .340 as the 6 hitter. Muncy hits .325 in the 3 hole and under .250 everywhere else. But most of his power has come from the 2 slot where he hits .248 but has 54 of his career HR’s.

        1. Sounds like it should be…

          Betts
          TT
          Muncy
          Seager
          JT
          Smith
          Belli
          Lux

But, the Dodgers have a propensity to not want to stack righties and lefties together, preferring to alternate. Not the first time I’ve mentioned this.

          1. I like that though after reading maybe even swap Max & Corey. Still would be nice and tidy w/ RRLLRRLL. And just spitballing here since I have never played at any high level, not even HS, just little league. But I wonder if that kind of lineup is not even better than a RLRLRL one. Pitcher gets two righties, feels in his “righty groove” and then has to flip back over to find his “lefty groove” and flip back and forth every two batters. Probably overthinking this, but I was just wondering.
            cheers
            pb+

          2. I agree that it wouldn’t make that much of a difference. I do think you don’t want an all righty or all lefty lineup because the pitcher can get in a groove pitching to the same side of the plate.

IMHO, I think it’s valuable to have lefties one and two in the old days were you had table setters, stolen bases and power in the middle. A lefty is closer to 1st base and if you’re fast, it matters to beat and infield hit. Lefties also block catchers with stolen base attempts since they are in the box that can obstruct the throw.

It’s also good in the middle so that sac flies are typically to the pull side toward right field.

            My ideal lineup…

1 – Lefty that can steal bases and get on at a 370 clip
2 – Lefty contact hitter that can take some pitches and still put the ball in play and can also steal a base
3 – Best pure hitter, righty that hits lefties and righties
4 – Best Power Righty or Lefty
5 – Power guy that maybe doesn’t have the highest average of 3 4 guys Lefty sac flies
6 – High average guy to keep innings going – right that hits lefties and righties
7 – Probably the catcher’s spot power over average
8 – Worst hitter in the lineup maybe another fast guy that doesn’t get on base as much

That is if I can’t get Mike Trout at every spot in the lineup.

          3. I’ll play.

1 – The Dodgers do not have a lefty that can steal bases and get on at a .370 clip. Seager and Muncy have .370+ OBP, but neither are base-stealers. Mookie and TT are .370+ OBP and can steal bases but are both RH. Belli is a lefty who can steal a base, but he has to get on base first. Lux may end up in this role, but for now he is nowhere near a .370 OBP threat.
2 – Muncy is a lefty who can take pitches but he is more power oriented than contact and is not a base=stealing threat. Seager is more contact than power, but he is not patient and is not a base-stealing threat. Right now, neither Belli or Lux can be considered contact hitters.
3 – TT hits both RHP and LHP, and would probably be considered the best pure hitter. Mookie could be in this role as well. JT could still be considered for this role.
4 – Best power is Muncy. Belli may get it back, but not this year. JT is having a good power year.
5 – JT fits this role better than anyone else.
6 – Will Smith is a RH bat who does not hit lefties very well, but does have a good average with some good power.
7 and 8 – Belli and Lux are the worst hitters in this lineup and both are fast. For LAD, Smith does not drop below #6.

        2. I have no objection to the lineup. Muncy has a better OBP than TT and Seager (okay not by a lot). Muncy is a lot more patient than either Turner or Seager. Muncy has 106 K’s to 100 for TT, but has 76 BB’s to TT’s 37. Seager did very well in the #2 hole, but if you want any kind of running out of Mookie, it is best to have a patient hitter like Muncy. Anyway they lineup, I like 1-4. Actually I like 1-6 and hope for the continued improvement from Belli and Lux. If Belli and Lux hit, does LAD lose again?

  18. I am sure it has happened in the past, but I was not on here until this season. I think this is the first time I have seen Mark post the reading material and then not comment on it all day. Mark, did you post today’s subject just to see how deep the doodoo would get? If so, NICE JOB!

  19. Hey Bear, I hadn’t been on the site for a while. When I came back I took a look back at some of the previous articles. When I saw pictures of Podres , Hodges and even the “Dodger Bum” cartoon, I knew those articles had to be by you and sure enough, they were. Just those pictures brought back memories, as well as the articles that went with them. Thanks a lot.

It’s a great feeling knowing the Dodgers are only 1 game out of 1st. Here’s hoping they can keep on rolling and win the division again.

  20. Offense stagnant again. Looked like they were going to jump on Castillo quick with a Mookie double, but he strikes out 10 going into the 7th inning. Kyle Farmer sticks it to his old team with two doubles, one he ends up scoring, and the other he drives in 2 runs. 3-0 in the 8th. They might need some help from the Braves tonight to stay a game out unless they can rally. Tomorrows game at noon my time. Scherzer against Gray. Muncy has struck out 3 times tonight.

  21. Off day Monday before they go into Colorado for 3 then Friday, Saturday and Sunday against the D-Backs. No runs through 8 tonight. Going to take some 9th inning magic to win this game.

  22. I do not want Graterol on the post season roster. He does not have command of the strike zone. On to the 9th. Turner, 0-3, Smith 0-3 and Bellinger 0-3 coming up.

  23. Beaty gets 2 hits and drives in the only run in a 3-1 loss. Buehler’s ERA climbs to 2.39. They strike out 12 times. Frustrating game.

    1. Braves take 6 to 4 lead in the top of the ninth on aTravis d’Arnaud
      Home run
Right now I’m doing the tomahawk chop.

      1. Excuse me 5 to 4 lead
Uh oh just tied it up 5 5 still battling with two outs bottom of the ninth
        Braves up an extra innings
These two teams battle why can’t we do that

  24. Tough night for Dodgers.
Listless effort against the Reds, being shutout for 8 innings.
And Giants find a way to win a crazy game. They give up 3 run homer in ninth to fall behind 5-4 to Braves.
But Solano hits PH HR with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the 9th inning to tie game.
And then they win it in 11th on sac fly by the pitcher Gausman.
They now have 16 Pinch Hit Hr’s this year, just one shy of the MLB record.
It just might be the Giants destiny to win the division.

  25. Said it a couple weeks ago and last night was another example that those Midgets might be a team of destiny this season. Another 9th inning comeback and win in extra. This is almost surreal twilight zone material.
Can not remember a team that has been such an underdog before the season and played like that in all my year watching this game.

Too bad that Lux injured his forearm off a hit by a pitching machine. Just when he began to hit now this. Hopefully he wont be out for long though DR said he wont play the next couple of games.
And Bellinger still can not hit water even if he falls out of a boat.

Right now it looks like the WC game. Though WB rebounded okay from his last bad out in SF I am leaning toward Max to start that potential WC game. I hope the Dodgers will set up their rotation accordingly for the last week of the regular season if they are out of the divison race or unlikely to overtake the Giants.

    Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Down to their last strike and a guy who just came off of the IL cranks a hanger over the wall off of a pitcher with 32 saves. And a pitcher, Gausman, drives in the winning run with a sac fly to Pederson. Unbelievable. They just might be a team of destiny. But I think the Dodgers can alter that destiny come playoff time.
