Could the Dodgers Really Field Two MLB Teams?

There’s not much to do with the MLB season on hold, the NBA season on hold, the NCAA Tournament canceled, High School Tournaments in limbo, schools closed, and restaurants and theaters are persona non-Grotta. My youngest son and I spent the day plumbing his house, the house he has had since he was 18 (he’s almost 21 now) and has totally gutted and rebuilt it. It was built in 1900 and he plans to move in by August.

What is there to do? I have thought about binge-watching Game of Thrones, but no… So I will ask, how deep are the Dodgers? Can they really field two competitive teams? I have made up two teams from the Dodger’s roster and minor leaguers. Lets’s look and see.

Now, neither of those teams will win the World Series, the Pennant or even their Division, but they would be competitive. I think they would win at least 80 games… barring injury (they have no depth). How many MLB teams could do that? Yes, some of the youngsters would have to be called up earlier than expected, but sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t. Players can step up. It’s at least fun to talk about when there’s not much else…

The Coronavirus Pandemic

Our country and most likely, the World has not been in these kinds of uncharted water in my lifetime. In October 2009, when the President declared a National Emergency, 1,000 US Citizens had died from the swine flu. However, 30 days before that, a vaccine had been developed and it was not long after that when millions were vaccinated. Right about now, we have a National Emergency and about 60 people have died… but we have no vaccine on the horizon. It’s likely 90 to 120 days away. What is next? We don’t know. That’s what scares people senseless.

We have no idea how fast it will spread. Maybe canceling everything will help. Spring is near and the virus does not like heat, which is why the Dodgers may be safest in Arizona. There are so many things to be answered and resolved. The supermarkets are ravaged. I am ordering on Amazon to stay ahead of the curve. Schools are closed in Indy for three weeks. Everyone is afraid of the unknown. At US Water Systems, we have 48 employees and they are family. We are busy figuring out how we can handle this and make sure everyone and their families have food, medicine and can make their mortgage payments. That weighs on our minds.

My family and I could go into the woods or just sequester in our home for two months and be OK, but we have other obligations that are more important – our employees and their families. That makes it really tough because we watch out for them too.

My oldest son in NYC has had all his film business canceled. He is a stedi-can operator and has no jobs. He is dead in the water, so my youngest son and my son-in-law are taking my F-150 to NYC Monday and bringing him and his two cats back for three weeks. He could have flown but said he doesn’t want to be in a flying petri dish.

His grandmother (who happens to be my ex-mother-in-law) has adopted me as her son because her daughter (my ex-wife) and her son have both died and I am her next of kin. She is part of our family and at nearly 90, she needs some help. My wife and our other kids are almost like her own grandkids. She will be here to greet him. I can only imagine how it is to bury a husband and your only daughter and son. She is excited to see her grandson…

In the meantime, it is crazy and there have only been 15 cases of COVID-19 in Indiana. FIFTEEN! The truth is that this is a media-driven frenzy. I subscribe to what William Shakespeare once said: “The first thing we should do is kill all the lawyers and journalists.” P.S. Lawyers on this blog get a FREE PASS! I know at least 4!

The coronavirus has been very political, but this is not about politics. It’s about life and being safe. I am doing all I can. Be safe, my friends! Wash your hands with plenty of anti-bacterial soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds as many times a day as possible.

I Love This Song…

  1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t you part of the media?
I happen to think the media serves a valuable purpose. Yes, they tend to sensationalize stuff to gain readership but they also keep people (read politicians) honest (or at least somewhat honest).

OK, I’m sure your last comment will draw lots of opinions Mark, as it has motivated me to respond but I’d like to make my contribution to today’s post with a totally unrelated and very funny tweet.

As this person points out, not all sports have been canceled.

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1238859529393070081

    1. No one has ever mistaken me for a journalist!

… and I guess we all are part of the media if we post here.

      “The media keeps politicians honest?”

When will that start (in the future)?

      That’s as political as it gets… šŸ˜‰

      1. OK, I’m not going to start arguing with you about the media because that would turn very political.

By the way, as a retired business owner, I heartily commend you for your concern about your employees. That’s the way we ran our business. Yes, we needed to make a profit to stay in business but we realized that in order to do that we had to take care of our biggest asset, our employees.

  2. ā€œThe truth is that this is a media-driven frenzy.ā€

    Oh my.

    Change the channel Mark.

    1. You don’t believe the media drives it?

As soon as it was announced there was a case in Indy, the Supermarkets were stampeded. The media had no hand in that?

      1. So the media shouldnā€™t have reported it? People fear the unknown and want a sense of control. Hence the panic buying of things like toilet paper. Ask the people in Italy if this is media driven.

We have a world problem. Cases will increase in the US as we continue to test. But we are all in the together. I commend you for thinking about your employeeā€™s welfare. All businesses will be hurting and particularly small businesses. How we all react to this will say a lot about all of us and our country.

      2. First, thank you for your question Mark. In spite of how you may interpret it, the media Iā€™ve been watching is trying to get what science is saying about this virus out to the American people. In my opinion, we need to ignore the dumbf*uckery that comes from….. letā€™s just call it the non science believing leadership wing of those in charge. I thank the universe daily for our 4th Estate. Without it you know what we have? Russia.

People will often overreact because thatā€™s what herd mentality does. I am not suggesting we panic, Iā€™m suggesting we do what the medical community suggests we do. At the proper time Iā€™m also going to ask the questions I feel need to be asked of my local Congressman, who happens to be Katie Porter, whom I trust to answer my questions honestly. The question is, why are we not prepared for a pandemic, and what are we going to do moving forward to be prepared ? Some of the answers I feel I already know. And this is something else I know – we cannot look to our Federal government for help. Not now anyway. This needs to be done locally. I have some ideas on that, but this platform ainā€™t exactly local so Iā€™ll keep them to myself.

Thanks again for allowing me to express my opinion on this topic. I think these are things our community needs to discuss.

        1. Katie Porter did a real number on the head of the CDC the other day when she was questioning him during a hearing. I see Attorney General in her future.
In spite of both sides of the political spectrum now making statements that everyone should avoid crowds, there are still idiots out there gleefully tweeting pictures from crowded restaurants. One even stated that she was an American and could do whatever she wanted.
My way of getting through upcoming events I am dreading (surgeries, pandemics, etc.) is to visualize how I’m going to feel the day after (assuming I come out alive on the other end). Right now I’m visualizing how I’m going to feel when I turn on the tube and see the Dodgers on the field again, whenever that might be.
It makes me feel good all over. So sayeth El Jefe.

      3. Did the media drive the virus in China, S. Korea, and Italy? Don’t be silly. This is a very real thing that is happening. Americans have the tendency of going overboard and becoming hysterical. They are full of fear. So, the media doesn’t do anything to help them relax and feel safe. Most people are going to survive this flu. We should be more worried what it is going to do to small businesses, corporations who employ large numbers of people, and banking, because the banks are under a lot of pressure right now. Something is brewing in the world economy that could get seriously bad.

  3. “there have only been 15 cases of COVID-19 in Indiana”

if you really believe that every other Indiana resident aside from these 15 are coronavirus free you are out of your mind. Nobody knows they have it because people are not being tested and/or are still asymptomatic! Please don’t think the virus has stopped spreading within the borders of Indiana.

Wat, hope you drank a few jugs of water my friend!

    1. Bobby,

I have no idea why you would think that I really believe there are only 15 people in Indiana who have it. I never said anything like that. Why would you jump to that conclusion? I have no idea how many cases there are in Indiana, and neither do you. There may be 60 or 60,000. Most journalists are making a WAG. I know that it’s serious and we are staying away from groups of people. The bigger problem is that there are no vaccines… as yet and there are some reports that you can be re-infected.

      Why the anger?

      1. Anger? Haha, no anger whatsoever. Surprised maybe. You said ” In the meantime, it is crazy and there have only been 15 cases of COVID-19 in Indiana. FIFTEEN! ”

        Not 15 reported. 15. That’s a big difference.

But if we’re discussing semantics and words, then no biggie. I’m just glad you and the majority of our older crowd group are taking precautions and staying safe. I keep telling everyone, please put good stuff in your bodies right now. Tons of water, and all those green powders, veggies, etc that can help boost your immune systems.

I’m quite confident that if/when I contract this virus, my body will be able to fight it off as I do flood my body with lots of greens, vit C, tumeric, etc. What I am afraid of is being a carrier without knowing it and infecting someone whose immune system isn’t as strong as mine.

        1. I am in the age group that is the hardest hit and I take all of the supplements you mentioned. One other important thing is Molecular Hydrogen, which is the best anti-oxidant you can put into your body (1-3 tablets a day) and if you are feeling sick a teaspoon of baking soda into 12 ounces of water does amazing stuff. Many oncologists are prescribing that for cancer. I don’t recommend it if you are not sick and it tastes God-Awful. Take it on an empty stomach and don’t eat for an hour. Some people do that once or twice a week.

          1. my morning post workout drink includes apple cider vinegar, black pepper, tumeric powder, and green/fruit powders. I’ll have to start adding a spoon of baking soda with that, thanks!

          2. I do a similar thing Bobby. I add ginger, garlic, lemon, hot peppers, and white onion to my mix. Itā€™s blended together in a pint jar in my reefer. I take a couple shots a day.

    2. Apparently there is more need to drink water more often than it is how much water you drink. We can flush the virus out of our mouths into our stomachs where acids will kill it. Drinking warm water is better than drinking ice water. Dry coughs could be an indicator. Undry if you will are probably a cold.

    3. I love this blog, and appreciate your valiant efforts to keep the spirits of us Dodgers fans up during the crisis. I also admire your attitude towards your employees. Hats off to you!

I live in the Netherlands and am a US citizen. Grew up in LA, got to see Koufax pitch at Dodger Stadium as a boy, and followed the Dodgers my whole life. And coached my son’s baseball team here. Like your business, we Dodgers fan are also a family!

I don’t want to make this political, as it spoils the fun of your wonderful blog. I’ll just say that we are self-quarantining here in Europe, to not spread the virus to our friends, neighbors, colleagues, and families. The rates of infection are rising exponentially, hospitals are filling up,.and death rates are climbing. That’s why nearly all of Europe is on lock down now – to prevent and finally reverse this process.

They say, “You’re entitled to your own opinions, but you’re not entitled to your own facts.” The facts are evident to everyone here now, even those who thought it was an hysteria.

Keep healthy, Dodger fans, and keep your chins up! This will pass, and may we finally win the Big One this year!

      1. Thanks for you input. The hysteria is real… but so is the disease. I would never minimize that.

Someone is going to find the cure… hopefully sooner than later.

We have never went to these extremes in the US to isolate and de-socialize so hopefully it will work.

        1. I live in Maastricht, in the very south of the country. It’s crazy here at the moment. We don’t want to end up like what’s happening in Italy right now. The other day, they closed all of the cafes and restaurants in Belgium, which is right across the border from us. What did the Belgian people do? They crossed the border so they could drink in the cafes in Maastricht! Then this afternoon, the Dutch government announced that they were closing all the cafes here, effective 6 pm this evening. We’re in uncharted territory! The worst, of course, is no baseball!

          1. The Maastricht antique fair, the biggest in the world, just happened recently. This was right before countries started to announce the lockdowns and restrictions to these large gatherings. By all accounts it was packed, with no regard for what the virus was doing elsewhere. Are the rich immune? šŸ™‚

      2. David – I too am from the Netherlands. Born in Naaldwijk, immigrated when I was 5 and raised in Dairy Valley (now Cerritos). Where in Holland are you from? Sounds like we had very similar journeys.

  4. As a former journalist, what constitutes journalism today is a joke. Itā€™s agenda driven, slanted and honestly not many know how to write a fact based straight story. Television is worse with talking heads everywhere. This isnā€™t actually new, it has been heading in that direction for many years.

Technically, social media sites, such as this one, are now considered to be media. Although many of the stories appearing here are similar to the old columns appearing in newspapers and magazines, there are straight information stories as well.

So is Mark a journalist? Yes, I think he qualifies. I will not compare him to Bill Plaschke because that would probably send him to the ledge, but both write opinion based columns.

Itā€™s good that Mark thinks about his employees, it indicates he understands that they are part of his extended family and the foundation of his business.

As to the Coronavirus, itā€™s important to use common sense and listen to health care experts. The new model has this peaking between April and June. This too shall pass, then maybe we can get back to baseball and other fun activities.

    Stay safe folks.

    1. You left something out. Media capture and concentrated corporate ownership. Maybe as a former journalist you can do a story here on these issues here.

  5. I liked your Dodgers A and B team Mark. I posted a week or so back an a/b position players lineup using what I thought were the best players on the A team. My point was to show even the second level players would be competitive with most of the other teams. When you put the pitching staff on the lineup card it really shows you the depth the Dodgers going forward especially when you take into account how young the guys are. Good read this morning.

  6. Garlic my friends, raw garlic.
I’m in the high risk age group, we can’t change our ages or genetics, but we can boost our immune system. That’s our best defense against any virus.
Along with those immune boosting supplements Bobby and others mentioned let me suggest raw garlic, chop it up, swallow it down with water and ACV . Not only will it boost the system it will keep the crowds away also.
Vit C, sleep, moderate exercise all a must for healthy immunity.

  7. It is not possible to address ANYTHING about the corona virus without getting political. We simply will not go there. PERIOD. When Trump closed flights from China on January 31st Biden and the DNC called him a racist. Yea we’d be in such better shape if only Biden was in charge.

  8. What I learned today.

There are people who comment here that drink concoctions I would never have thought was drinkable. This all started by eating bats. I added that last sentence to bring this back to baseball.

  9. As one who has been in quarantine for the past two weeks, let me say Mark’s comments about this whole thing being a media-driven frenzy is asinine, to put it the politest way I can.
    Wake up, Mark!

    1. So, the frenzy would still exist if the media never reported it?

I’ll answer that: No it would not!

It is Media Driven and I am not saying it should be kept secret… but it is delusional to say otherwise.

      1. You’re not making sense. It is what it is. It’s a bad situation about to get worse. The information from the media allows us to make our own decisions. I, for one, am glad (most of) the media is taking this whole thing seriously.

        1. I am not saying it is political, but the Media Drives it… whether they mean to or not.

I am not saying the media shouldn’t cover it.

I am just saying that when some people hear it, they go into a frenzy.

I listen or watch about it about once a day, but some people listen 24/7 and they think the sky is falling.

      2. If we were never told about it itā€™s pretty easy to see how it could be a lot worse.

  10. A neighbor who watches tons of sports in his den said this on day 2 of the sports quarantine. Saw a lady sitting on the coach. It was my wife. She seemed nice.

West Virginia is only state that hasn’t reported cases. Maybe it’s teeth related. Or, maybe chewing tobacco is a vaccine.

  11. I have thought several times over this abbreviated spring training that we had enough depth to field two competitive teams. I like the idea Mark, thanks. As far as the virus is concerned, I wish everyone to be well and safe and take the recommendations offered if it applies to you. My daughter made a suggestion to me that she saw on TV, I think. If you run out of hand sanitizer, you can make some by adding a little alcohol to Aloe Vera. Sounds good to me.

    1. Alcohol to Aloe Vera plus garlic, black pepper, baking soda, green powder, apple cider vinegar…

  12. … but you can’t beat a good lather with anti-bacterial soap for 30 seconds.

    Everclear works well too…

    1. Everclear helps in making a great Lemoncello. Getting ready to make a new batch for the summer.

  13. First ballplayer reported to have tested positive for COVID-19. He’s in the Yankee farm system and that side of their camp had already been closed as of Friday.
I believe MLB has now also issued an edict that prohibits organized workouts at team training sights. Maybe I misinterpreted what I heard, but does unorganized workouts lead to fewer cases of transmitting this thing? If so, maybe being disorganized is a good thing.

  14. Whether it is media driven or not, whether it is political or not, I offer no opinion (although I do have my opinions). What I do see is that in a matter of a week or two, our government controls all sporting events, concerts, entertainment, jobs, colleges, medical facilities, whether or not you can leave your house, it has con tributed to the depletion of certain resources such toilet paper and food, and they control travel, they control virtually everything about us, there is mass panic and hysteria, and folks, the control will become more invasive, all over a virus – a virus for which the survival rate is extremely high and which the vast majority of people can not articulate the symptoms or how they differ from the common cold. That was easy, and it happened in under two weeks. Moreover, there is nothing we can do about it. Next, it will become a situation of where people will become ostracized in public should they cough in a public setting, or touch their face without immediately washing their hands. We can’t do anything about individuals pooping in the streets of San Francisco, but it won’t be long before neighbors turn in neighbors if they suspect they have the virus and aren’t following the government mandates.

If you further wonder how and why we got here, I would invite anyone to do some research o Event-201, hosted by the WHO, the UN, John Hopkins University, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the CDC and other medical leaders from various countries, where in October of last year, before the virus had been detected anywhere in the world, they laid out this very playbook for a pandemic. It makes for very interesting research.

I also think the Dodgers have the depth to field 2 very competitive teams, that probably would not win the WS, but could make it to the playoffs.

    1. Be careful of what you read on that and FactCheck it.

      It is very interesting…

  15. I don’t want to embarrass some of you, so I will just say:

I did not say the media drove the virus.

I said the media drove the frenzy.

Learn to read damn English and quit putting FAKE words in my mouth!

I dislike that game very much.

    1. Fake words?

Like ā€œstop blaming the media for peopleā€™s frenzyonic behavioroidsā€.

It was the virus that started this whole thing. Some people say it was the government that started the virus. Like a Plum Island thing.

Hereā€™s an exercise for you – check how close Plum Island is to Lyme Connecticut.

        1. Really?

bicker: to engage in petulant or peevish argument

Ok, Iā€™ll be Peevish, he can be Butthead. Wait… that didnā€™t come out right.

I donā€™t want to bicker, I just want to get the facts straight. There are times when certain corporate owned media outfits drive the frenzy. Itā€™s what they do to drive up the ratings. But I donā€™t think this is a time to get facts confused. We need to come together on this one. I think the frenzy is being driven by the facts. The fact is countries are shutting down.

Let me say here I believe we will get beyond this but people everywhere need to listen and cooperate. This is going to take time. We should have started this when we first heard about it last year. We didnā€™t. We cannot wait any longer. Act now.

          1. Maybe you could state your perspective without making direct reference to Mark’s comments.

We just got you back and we want to keep you.

          2. Badger, Your dietary recommendations have no factual evidence about doing anything to stop or prevent covid-19. I’m not saying don’t do anything, but I suspect we do stuff for psychological comfort because we need to feel like we can survive anything. Gloves, masks, hand sanitizers, etc., seem like BS to me. i only follow this stuff to be sociable and not antagonize my fellow human beings. Death is possible at any moment and you are probably not going to die from covid-19. Being human is a real problem in itself. The human being loves problems. It is wired to create problems if none exist.

        2. I was trying to keep it light. I found FAKE words to be funny. A play on fake news. So I made some fake words some up. I think Mark will have more patience with me. We talked it out. Weā€™re good. Well, Iā€™m good. Heā€™s about average.

  16. Bobby – was a great night- loved everyone and everything and youā€™ll be pleased to know I kept myself well hydrated.

Just been out with my family for my Mumā€™s 83rd Birthday lunch.
Was very very quiet – lots of people staying home.

Our Government are telling anyone over the age of 70 to self isolate for up
to 4 months while the Virus peaks.
This is gonna be a long struggle.

    Stay safe everyone.

    1. Wow, four months will really test people’s resolve.
Did I read correctly that your PM is trying to get as many people in the UK exposed to the virus as possible so that you’ll get through it quicker? That seems contrary to what every other country is trying to do. Everyone else seems to be trying to flatten the curve so that the hospitals will better be able to handle all the folks who will need to be hospitalized.

    2. We all know the British went nuts when someone came up with the Brexit idea. Are they trying to kill off the geezers, now?

  17. Well let me tell you what happened to me. Sunday I started to get sick. On Thursday I was really sick. I had a dry hacking cough, a fever, and short of breath. All the requirements for the Coronavirus. But, I did not travel anywhere. I ended up in the ER. They tested me for 17 different viruses. I had influenza A. I had the flu shot. I am 80 this year. Probably as sick as I have ever been. Doc said it would take 2 weeks to get over this. My wife and I quarantined ourselves. This is going to be hard on the elderly. Many on this blog are older. Be careful. We do not want to lose anyone.

    1. Get well soon. I had the same thing in December – turned into pneumonia and when my fever hit 104 I drove to the ER and they kept me for about 8 hours. Pumped me full of Anti-Biotics and Fluids and by the time I drove home I felt dramatically better, but it hung on for several weeks.

Hydrate and get plenty of rest!

      1. 104. Thatā€™s 1 degree from potential brain damage. I hit 105 at least twice when I had malaria. I remember two ice baths. May have been three. The 30 days I spent in a DaNang hospital are just a blur in the memory. Iā€™ve had two relapses, one in ā€˜71, another in ā€˜95. Plasmodium falciparum. Thatā€™s my excuse.

    2. Apparently you’re quite the contrarian. Everyone else is doing Covid-19 and Influenza B this year, and you decide to get Influenza A. Take care of yourself. Feel better soon.

    3. That had to be scary Al. We sometimes let our minds wonder to how we will bow out of this life. Stay positive and may brilliant Devine light shine over all of us during this crazy time.

  18. I spent an hour and a half on the phone with a medical researcher friend and my head is spinning. He claims that deuterium depleted water is the most amazing discovery of our lifetime.

    https://selfhacked.com/blog/deuterium-depleted-water/

I have been reading about this for over a year, but he has been at the forefront of research into water for 50 years.

  19. Hope you and your wife are well soon, Idahoal. Please take care. That influenza is scary also.

  20. I have been under the weather since a week ago Thursday. Started out as a sore throat, and then my eyes were burning and I had a mucus buildup in them. I went to the VA and they sent me to an urgent care center. Turned out, I have a sinus infection and a bladder infection. The bladder infection helped with the sore throat, and the sinus caused everything else. I am taking huge antibiotic horse pills twice a day, and everything is starting to calm down. Ate the first solid food I have had in a week and a half today. This is about as bad as I have felt in years. No baseball, so I have been watching old Laugh-In shows, and going through my collection of baseball movies. There are a couple of baseball themed movies on TCM< Alibi Ike, and Elmer the Great. Pretty funny stuff.

    1. Laugh in is great. There’s a story about a guy beating cancer watch comedies and laughing.

      1. I enjoy it when John Wayne is on there. Which he was quite a bit. My favorite is Arte Johnson as the dirty old man, and Ruth Buzzi as the spinster…..lady, wanna call me sweetheart??? Bam, …wanna call me your lover boy?????Bam……wanna call me an ambulance???? falls over. Funny stuff, and former LA DJ Gary Owens always opening the show. And Morgul, as the friendly drelb. Never forget the first time I saw Tiny Tim on there. Strange dude….

  21. I know we have at least 4 excellent attorneys on this blog. Wonder if we have any doctors or ets. Would like to hear some of their input. Also, what are the chances MLB cancels the whole minor league season now that a player has been tested positive for the virus? It would be a real shame.

  22. I am to not going to comment as to whether there is too much press coverage or not enough. I prefer more information, but I prefer it from limited sources I trust. Fill me up with facts and leave out the editorial commentary.

But why I really wanted to write today is too wish Idahoal and Bear good health and let you know I will be praying for you to get well soon.

    1. Thank you AC. Getting old sucks, especially when something like this hits you. One thing I learned a long time ago though. Don’t worry about things you have no control over. And right now, we have zip control over anything

      1. You know what they say about getting old Bear. It may not be great, but it beats the alternative.

        1. Problem is the alternative is not that far away anymore! We have control over ourselves Badger, that is for sure, but as easy as I could catch the virus, I could slip and break my neck in the bathtub. But no one knows what tomorrow is bringing. One of the things about this that really sucks, is we are not going to know what a full year with Mookie Betts on the team would mean. Unless he comes back, we may never know.

  23. I live in the Boise area. My 3 children and 9 grandkids live here. Thanks for the well wishes. I stopped going to mass and communion because of this stuff. I have to laugh a little. When I got sick on Sunday, I said to myself, well if you have to be sick, this a a good time. I can watch baseball, college basketball and golf. So much for that thought. I do have this blog.

    1. Those of us over 60 get special dispensation if we choose to not attend mass. We go to 7:30 AM mass and today there were less than 100 attending and most (almost all) were over 60.

  24. This could be fake news, or not…

    – China has closed down its last coronavirus hospital.
Not enough new cases to support them.

    – Indian Doctors successful in treating Corona. Combination of drugs used: Lopinavir, Retonovir, Oseltamivir along with Chlorphenamine.
They are going suggest same medicine globally.

    – Researchers of the Erasmus Medical Center claim to have found an antibody against coronavirus.

    – A 103-year-old Chinese grandmother has made a full recovery from COVID-19 after being treated for 6 days in Wuhan, China.

    – Apple reopens all 42 china stores,

    – Cleveland Clinic develops COVID-19 test that gives results in hours, not days.

    – Good news from South Korea, where the number of new cases is declining.

    – Italy is hit hard, experts say, only because they have the oldest population in Europe.

    – Wuhan celebrates the closure of the last temporary hospital in Wuhan.

    – Scientists in Israel likely to announce the development of a coronavirus vaccine.

    – 3 Maryland coronavirus patients fully recovered; able to return to everyday life.

    – Two more Filipinos have recovered from COVID-19 and is now discharged from the hospital. Only two Filipino COVID-19 positive patients remain in hospital isolation.

    – A network of Canadian scientists are making excellent progress in Covid-19 research.

    – A San Diego biotech company is developing a Covid-19 vaccine in collaboration with Duke University and National University of Singapore.

    – Tulsa County’s first positive COVID-19 case has recovered. This individual has had two negative tests, which is the indicator of recovery.

    – All 7 patients who were getting treated for at Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi have recovered.

    – Plasma from newly recovered patients from Covid -19 can treat others infected by Covid-19.

    I am checking it out.

    1. Thatā€™s a lot of information. Good work.

I read about the Erasmus antibody discovery. Still needs to be tested, is months away. Have heard encouraging news out of China but they went after it with some pretty Draconian measures. I donā€™t see us doing that. We may catch up quickly, but our reaction time was appallingly slow.

    2. Those drugs sound more like Russian spies than drugs…why can’t they just use easy names, like Corona fix, or lyme corona?

  25. I was sent this today:

Personal Action Steps for Avoiding the Coronavirus

Source: James Robb, MD UC San Diego.
Subject: What I am doing for the upcoming COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic…

Dear Colleagues, as some of you may recall, when I was a professor of pathology at the University of California San Diego, I was one of the first molecular virologists in the world to work on coronaviruses (the 1970s). I was the first to demonstrate the number of genes the virus contained. Since then, I have kept up with the coronavirus field and its multiple clinical transfers into the human population (e.g., SARS, MERS), from different animal sources.

    > The current projections for its expansion in the US are only probable, due to continued insufficient worldwide data, but it is most likely to be widespread in the US by mid to late March and April.

    > Here is what I have done and the precautions that I take and will take. These are the same precautions I currently use during our influenza seasons, except for the mask and gloves.:

    > 1) NO HANDSHAKING! Use a fist bump, slight bow, elbow bump, etc.

    > 2) Use ONLY your knuckle to touch light switches. elevator buttons, etc.. Lift the gasoline dispenser with a paper towel or use a disposable glove.

    > 3) Open doors with your closed fist or hip – do not grasp the handle with your hand, unless there is no other way to open the door. Especially important on bathroom and post office/commercial doors.

    > 4) Use disinfectant wipes at the stores when they are available, including wiping the handle and child seat in grocery carts.

    > 5) Wash your hands with soap for 10-20 seconds and/or use a greater than 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer whenever you return home from ANY activity that involves locations where other people have been.

    > 6) Keep a bottle of sanitizer available at each of your home’s entrances. AND in your car for use after getting gas or touching other contaminated objects when you can’t immediately wash your hands.

    > 7) If possible, cough or sneeze into a disposable tissue and discard. Use your elbow only if you have to. The clothing on your elbow will contain infectious virus that can be passed on for up to a week or more!

    > What I have stocked in preparation for the pandemic spread to the US:

    > 1) Latex or nitrile latex disposable gloves for use when going shopping, using the gasoline pump, and all other outside activity when you come in contact with contaminated areas.

    > Note: This virus is spread in large droplets by coughing and sneezing. This means that the air will not infect you! BUT all the surfaces where these droplets land are infectious for about a week on average – everything that is associated with infected people will be contaminated and potentially infectious. The virus is on surfaces and you will not be infected unless your unprotected face is directly coughed or sneezed upon. This virus only has cell receptors for lung cells (it only infects your lungs) The only way for the virus to infect you is through your nose or mouth via your hands or an infected cough or sneeze onto or into your nose or mouth.

    > 2) Stock up now with disposable surgical masks and use them to prevent you from touching your nose and/or mouth (We touch our nose/mouth 90X/day without knowing it!). This is the only way this virus can infect you – it is lung-specific. The mask will not prevent the virus in a direct sneeze from getting into your nose or mouth – it is only to keep you from touching your nose or mouth.

    > 3) Stock up now with hand sanitizers and latex/nitrile gloves (get the appropriate sizes for your family). The hand sanitizers must be alcohol-based and greater than 60% alcohol to be effective.
    > 4) Stock up now with zinc lozenges. These lozenges have been proven to be effective in blocking coronavirus (and most other viruses) from multiplying in your throat and nasopharynx. Use as directed several times each day when you begin to feel ANY “cold-like” symptoms beginning. It is best to lie down and let the lozenge dissolve in the back of your throat and nasopharynx. Cold-Eeze lozenges is one brand available, but there are other brands available.

I, as many others do, hope that this pandemic will be reasonably contained, BUT I personally do not think it will be. Humans have never seen this snake-associated virus before and have no internal defense against it. Tremendous worldwide efforts are being made to understand the molecular and clinical virology of this virus. Unbelievable molecular knowledge about the genomics, structure, and virulence of this virus has already been achieved. BUT, there will be NO drugs or vaccines available this year to protect us or limit the infection within us. Only symptomatic support is available.

I hope these personal thoughts will be helpful during this potentially catastrophic pandemic. You are welcome to share this email. Good luck to all of us! Jim

The following basic nutritional ADULT response is recommended if there is an imminent threat (e.g. coronavirus case recently reported in your area).

    1. Quinton Marine Plasma Isotonic: Two ampoules per day 15-30 minutes before meals. One ampoule per day 30 min before bedtime.

    2. Vit C (ascorbic or mineral ascorbates): 3000-5000 mg/day in divided doses to minimize diarrheal response. Active Ribose C is the preferred form to minimize side-effects..

    3. Vit D3: 10000 IU per day for two weeks then 5000 IU per day

    4. Magnesium: 400-800 mg per day as citrate or malate

    5. Zinc: 20-30 mg per day as zinc methionate

    Vitamin C and CoronaVirus
If, by the end of today, YOU and your family members are NOT taking a minimum of 500 milligrams, per day, of Vitamin C may God help you…

Get with the program people. Stop being Big Pharma sheeplesā€¦

The liberal media is NOT telling the public that literally TONS of Vitamin C is being shipped into Wuhan, China to treat, and stop, their CoronaVirus outbreak. They are also not telling anyone that the city of Shanghai (population 24.2 million) has adopted Vitamin C as their treatment of choice. I am hearing reports that the country of Taiwan is doing the same.

So, what the hell is wrong with the United States of America?
Listen closely ā€“ go out and buy a family sized bag of Vitamin C right now. Read the rest of this article later if you have to. Get whatever form you can getā€¦
Iā€™m 76 years old ā€“ so by the mediaā€™s estimate Iā€™m first in line to die of the CoronaVirus. No thanks, Iā€™m busy that dayā€¦
I take a minimum of 2,500 milligrams of Vitamin C per day, and have been for years, in powder form stirred into sixteen (16) ounces of water. If I feel a cold, or allergies, coming on Iā€™ll double that by taking more six hours later.
I get my ā€œChina Freeā€ Vitamin C from a secret source. You can buy your Vitamin C anywhere you want, but try to get the best quality. Try to get the Ascorbic Acid variety as your first choice.
The stuff I get, when mixed with sixteen ounces of water, tastes like a very good pink lemonade, and I use it as the liquid to take my supplements every morning.
What supplements does an old guy like me take, you ask? Besides the Vitamin C, I take two 425 mg Magnesium Malate (old guys need magnesium), three Prostrate Formula (yup, Iā€™m there), two 1000 mg Triphala (look this one up), two 2,500 mg Flax Seed/Fish Oil Complex, two 500 mg Vitamin B12 (keeps me pretty), one 500 mg Selenium, two 5,000 mg D3 (sunshine in a capsule), and a blood pressure pill (Iā€™m married, and sometimes we donā€™t always agree).

Andrew Saul, over at the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service writes:
ā€œShanghai Government Officially Recommends Vitamin C for COVID-19ā€
(OMNS Mar 3, 2020) The government of Shanghai, China has announced its official recommendation that COVID-19 should be treated with high amounts of intravenous vitamin C. (1) Dosage recommendations vary with severity of illness, from 50 to 200 milligrams per kilogram body weight per day to as much as 200 mg/kg/day.
These dosages are approximately 4,000 to 16,000 mg for an adult, administered by IV. This specific method of administration is important, says intravenous therapy expert Atsuo Yanagisawa, MD, PhD, because vitamin Cā€™s effect is at least ten times more powerful by IV than if taken orally. Dr. Yanagisawa is president of the Tokyo-based Japanese College of Intravenous Therapy. He says, ā€œIntravenous vitamin C is a safe, effective, and broad-spectrum antiviral.ā€
Richard Z. Cheng, MD, PhD, a Chinese-American specialist physician, has been working closely with medical and governmental authorities throughout China. He has been instrumental in facilitating at least three Chinese clinical IV vitamin C studies now underway. Dr. Cheng is presently in Shanghai continuing his efforts to encourage still more Chinese hospitals to implement vitamin C therapy incorporating high oral doses as well as C by IV.

Dr. Cheng and Dr. Yanagisawa both recommend oral vitamin C for prevention of COVID-19 infection.

    1. Good information. Thanks.

I got that Dr Robb email about a week ago.

Iā€™ve been taking C for a long time. 2 grams daily has been upped to 4 grams, along with an oxy mag supplement. Most of what you mention I got. Have ConcenTrace Mineral Drops. I also have that ā€œMasterā€™s Tonicā€ I told you about. Iā€™ve been mixing that up for about 6 years. Iā€™ve been a vegetarian for 50 years, grow my own greens, and since I met my wife 15 years ago have gone nearly 100% organic. I still like cheese and yogurt so Iā€™m lacto but all goat at home, some cow on the road.

Iā€™m interested to know more about #1 on your list and that water you mentioned. I left that RO system I bought from you in Arizona. Got a Mickey Mouse system here. Not much room under the sink.

Iā€™m in better shape than most but frankly since I tore my rotator cuff and wore my knees out Iā€™ve gotten quite lazy. Iā€™ll be back at it soon. Just needed the motivation. Iā€™m getting it here.

  26. I’ve noticed that since Badger started up, his BS agenda’s have become very friggen important and what this site is about has become secondary

    1. There hasn’t been much baseball to talk about lately, so this is natural. It won’t stay that way. This is a Dodger site.

  27. Mark you forgot diet. Alternating meals between double cheeseburgers (no veggies) and cheese pizza (no meat toppings). Thatā€™s sure to kill you before the virus!

    1. Yeah Cassidy, but what a glorious way to go!! Who the hell wants to die eating tofu? Give me a big meaty chili burger anyday. Since I have been subsisting on soup for over a week, that would be a real treat. Some Pecan pie with whipped cream. Yep, if I am going on I am damn sure going to do it on my own terms…….unless the big guy says otherwise. I sure as hell do not want to go the way my former room mate and long time friend did. Viet Nam vet. Contracted cancer that wrapped around his spine. They gave him 6 months to a year, he lasted almost 3. But he was a skeleton when he went. Nope, not me. I am going kickin and screaming.
