The Dodger Players Spoke

July 3, 2021

Last night the Dodger players spoke without saying a word. Their four errors showed that they might have been somewhat distracted… and understandably so. But they maintained their composure until they got Max Scherzer out of the game and proceeded to destroy the Nationals bullpen. The Dodger players were laughing and having a great time for the most part… except for the defensive lapses. I can understand it. The White…

Phil Bickford – Riding the Simple Train

July 1, 2021

Right-hander Phil Bickford was claimed off waivers from the Brewers by the Dodgers on May 3, 2021. I expect the move was questioned by more than  a few Dodger faithful since the 25-year-old Bickford had previously pitched just two innings at the MLB level – both with the Brewers – resulting in four and two runs scored against him respectively and a Brewer ERA of 27.00. He debuted with the…

MiLB – Just Bumming Around

June 30, 2021

Just a few notes regarding MiLB, Dodger style. There is no significance to the order of presentation.  Only one Dodger minor league game on Monday so I was really just bumming around looking for tidbits of MiLB. Dodger Minor League Affiliate Standings: Monday, June 28 Great Lakes Loons are  in second place 2.5 games back of the Dayton Dragons. Rancho Cucamonga Quakes  are in first place 1.5 games up on …

But Seriously, Folks

June 29, 2021

It was reported that immediately after the game last night a San Francisco Giants fan tried to blow up a LA Dodger fan’s car. He was not successful, however, as he kept burning his lips on the exhaust pipe. Well, if you are only going to get 5 hits, make sure most of them are Home Runs and the Dodgers did that last night. The bullpen again came through BIG…

Mark Who?

June 28, 2021

No not Mark Timmons, nor Mark Prior, nor Mark Fidrych, or Mark McGwire The Mark to whom I refer is right-hander Mark Washington of the Tulsa Drillers, perhaps soon to be of the OKC Dodgers. He was born in Glen Mills, attended high school at Episcopal Academy in Merion, and attended university at Lehigh University. All three locations are in his home state of Pennsylvania. He was selected by the…

It’s Never Clear… at least in the Beginning!

June 23, 2021

Kershaw was OK last night, and the bullpen did their job, but the hitters failed to deliver in the clutch. The Dodgers had 8 hits and 5 walks, compared to the Padres 4 hits and 3 walks. I guess this loss is on Doc, because if Austin Barnes had started, he might have won it with 4th HR. Instead Doc started that bum, Will Smith.

Rant & Rave Friday

June 18, 2021

Who will go down next? That seems to be a broken record for this season. Hopefully, everyone gets healthy for the stretch run. Tonight, Trevor Bauer goes against the D-Bags in AZ. The Dodgers are 3rd in team ERA… within .06 of the Padres and .10 of the Mets. They are still #2 in starter ERA behind the Mets, but deGrom keeps breaking down (he’s older than Clayton) and it…

June is Busting Out All Over

June 17, 2021

It was great to have AC’s minor league article on Tuesday. When he produces a column it is like MLB. That is,  Minor League Buffett. So much to digest. In his smorgasbord he did mention some young players I have been following. Today I am going to just highlight a few hitters who seem to be busting out in June after  a bit of a slow May. Today it is…

Players in the Hall who spent time with the Dodgers

June 15, 2021

I got to thinking about this when Albert joined the Dodgers. Just how many HOFer’s have spent time with the Dodgers in Brooklyn or LA. The answer right now is 46. Also 7 managers and coaches, 3 executives, and 4 broadcasters. The broadcasters are Scully, Red Barber, Jaime Jarrin, and Ernie Harwell, who did most of his work in Detroit. But he worked with Barber for a while. The execs…

Impact of a Veteran Player

June 13, 2021

Not so long ago, the Dodgers signed Albert Pujols. At the time I thought, why? Pujols is way past his prime, and over his contract with the Angels came nowhere near being the player he was in St. Louis. Now a few weeks later, I see an invigorated Pujols being a factor in games he plays. He has 5 HR’s, as many as he had with the Angels, and 1…
