The Price is Right

April 16, 2021

Here’s an interesting question: How many different pitchers will have saves for the Dodgers this season? The Dodgers already have three different pitchers with saves after Dave Roberts elected to use David Price in a save situation last night. It looked like a bad choice for a minute as Daza and Trejo both singled to start the inning. Then Trevor Story pinch hit and Price fell behind 2-0 only to…

What Have We Learned?

April 12, 2021

We are only 10 games into the season, so everything we are seeing is a small sampling, but right about now, everything we are seeing is “spot on” to what we believed this team could achieve. The Dodgers could have believed all their press clippings and came out of the gate slowly, but they came out snarling and ready to defend their title. They are now 8-2 and very well…

Get in Line for the Tattoo

April 2, 2021

It was an ugly game. Kershaw was bad (as he frequently is in Coors). His curveball had no bite. I am not worried about 91 MPH in the first game. But 91, without his curve, is an issue. Even Ray Charles can see that. This loss had nothing to do with Dave Roberts – he did not play an inning or have an at-bat.

Why Andrew Friedman Has Not Signed Corey Seager Already

March 26, 2021

I have heard and read a lot of Dodger fans ask why the Dodgers have not signed Corey Seager. After all, it’s so simple, right? Just sign him… hand him a blank check and let him take it from there. Easy Peasy! There you go – just get it done! So, why is it not yet done? The simple answer is that the price is unknown and most likely, too…

Just Sitting in the Outfield Sun… Wasting Time

March 23, 2021

Spring Training stats can be so deceiving: Last week Garrett Cleavinger was the flavor of the week, an almost certain lock to make the team. Sunday, maybe not so much. Last week, it appeared that Dennis Santana had pitched his way off the opening roster. Sunday, he sort of, kind of, maybe, redeemed himself. But then again, “it’s spring and the statistics don’t matter!”

Noisy Has Been Quiet, DJ Has Petered-Out & Barney Ain’t No Purple Dinosaur!

March 18, 2021

If this is who Gavin Lux is (from what he has shown this Spring), then the Dodgers are going to have an incredible offense. If he keeps hitting (and I can’t see why he won’t) he is going to be very difficult to keep at the bottom of the lineup. With his speed and baserunning ability, he is a perfect #2 hitter behind Mookie Betts. Speed Kills! That moves Seager to #3 and the trickle-down starts. I doubt that Gavin begins the season as the #2 hitter, but if he earns that spot, look out! This 2021 Dodger Offense is once again going to be the Big Blue Wrecking Crew!

The Spring Training Halfway Point

March 14, 2021

At some point, I could see Will Smith hitting #3 with Bellinger #4 and Muncy #6, but make no mistake about it – the Dodgers have been very good with JT hitting #3 and Mad Max at #4. I just think that Bellinger and Will Smith have the speed to hit towards the top of the lineup.

First-Year Players Who Made An Impact. 1958 – 1970

March 7, 2021

I was perusing the Dodger roster and looking for players who would be possible call ups this year, and who might impact the Dodgers season. There are some interesting kids on this team.               But before we get into that discussion, I thought I would go back over the years since their arrival in Los Angeles and see which first year players made some impression on the team. Some…

The Opening Day Starter is…

March 6, 2021

It looks like there will be Butts in Seats as the season starts – the only question is how many? I think it will ramp up pretty quickly… especially as the vaccination process gains traction. I still have not taken the vaccine… still debating!

February 28, 2021

October 27, 2020… After that unforgettable strikeout of Willy Adames  by Julio Urias Almost four months to the day, the Dodgers are going to be taking the field in an actual baseball game, even if it is only a ST game.  The Dodgers are starting 32 year old LHP, Mike Kickham.  Kickham signed a MiLB contract on January 27.  Lat year Kickham last year pitched for Boston, and pitched in…
