Theory Verses Practice

May 16, 2017

In theory, the Ten-Day Disabled List should be a wonderful thing for pitchers, but initial results are not so good.  It appears that after being off for ten days a starter just is not quite in-sync. Ryu was obviously out of sorts (maybe he is injured) and McCarthy also looked like he needed another start before coming off the DL.  So, in reality, while it might be a tool to…

Romo and Hatch

May 15, 2017

It used to be Starsky and Hutch but now, there is a new crime drama showing at a Ravine near you, featuring Sergio Romo, a soft-tossing arsonist who likes to start fires from the bullpen and Chris Hatcher a talented flame-thrower who is an arsonist in his own right.  The crime is that they are both still pitching… OK, throwing. The drama is… when will it end? This duo needs…

Have We Learned Anything Yet?

May 14, 2017

The short answer for some is a resounding NO!  Thankfully, they are in the minority! One of you, sent me a comment from another site the other day.  When I read it I immediately knew who wrote it.  Of course, he is a FAZ-basher and he ended with “How long has it been since the Dodgers were in the World Series? You do know that every other team in the NL…

Is Dodger Starting Pitching More Questionable Than Others???

May 13, 2017

Ryu gets tattooed and now there is a problem with the starting pitching?  I do not consider Ryu anything more than a #7 on this team.  I have no idea whether Ryu would have pitched better with regular rest or extended.  Maybe his curve just does not work in Colorado.  I have no delusions that Ryu will be anywhere close to the pitcher he was before his shoulder problems.  …

Look At The Big Picture

May 12, 2017

As bad as the score was, Ryu was not bombed.  He gave up no HR’s – it was really the walks and wildness that did him in.  The Dodgers had the same number of extra-base hits as the Rockies.  Yes, he was out 10 days and yes, it was Coors Field.  Let’s not forget that he had not pitched for two years, so FAZ is trying to manage his innings so…

Here’s The Biggest Question Yet…

May 9, 2017

It’s not “Does Chris Taylor deserve to start over Chase Utley?”  That’s not even a question.  The real question is “Does Logan Forsythe have a starting job when he comes back?”  Chris Taylor is an animal. I have always said that FAZ likes to trade for guys before they become THOSE GUYS!  They might have done just that with both Toles and Taylor!  I really, really liked last night’s lineup,…

A New Era?

May 5, 2017

Today could be the day that Adrian Gonzalez goes on the DL and Cody Bellinger takes his place permanently!  Evidently, A-Gon’s back issue is worse than his elbow.  Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com answered questions, mostly about the injury situations of Forsythe, Ethier, Kazmir and Gonzalez, where he says this about A-Gon: Gonzalez said he’s not fighting a first visit to the DL, but he also doesn’t believe 10 days will…

The Science Behind Dodger Batting Orders

April 30, 2017

A picture is worth a thousand words, so I thought I would post scientific evidence of what led to Adrian Gonzalez and Yasmani Grandal hitting 3rd and 4th.  Any questions?  Actually, what else can you do but throw darts?  The lineup is less important than the players in it.  I would like to see Toles in everyday. Let him play.  Of course, Bellinger has to be in it as well….

Money, Money, Money (and Free Agent Pitching)

April 26, 2017

During the dialogue about the Dodgers non-desire to pay for $100M+ pitching, Scott Andes stated “Those guys are expensive because hold onto your hats here, they are good, and you get what you pay for.” Since he knows the Dodgers can afford to sign 10 Greinke’s, obviously he feels the Dodgers have no salary cap to concern themselves with.  I like it when people like to spend other people’s money….

Starting Pitching is Overvalued…

April 24, 2017

Which doesn’t mean it is not valuable.  It’s just not worth the price. I can relate.  I drive a 2013 Ford F-150 XLT Supercab.  I could have bought the Platinum Series but it was $22,000 more and I thought that was overvalued, so I just drive the standard model.  Well it does have the twin-turbo 375 HP engine, so there is that.  But, it doesn’t have butt warmers and leather…
