The Rented Mule Society

September 1, 2017

The Dodger starting pitchers were beat like a rented mule by the D-Bags this week. Kenta Maeda, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Rich Hill were all pounded without mercy.. and yet (Drummmmmmm Roooooolllllllllll), the Dodgers are still #1 in all of baseball in Team ERA (3.38)and Team WHIP (1.16). The Nationals are second and the Bags are third!   By the way, the bullpen is even better and is also #1 in…

But, the Bullpen Has Been Awesome…

August 31, 2017

Anyone who suggests that the bullpen is somehow the problem hasn’t been paying attention.  Even after the past two games, the Dodgers starting pitching and bullpen remain the very best in baseball. I am not a meteorologist but I do know that sometimes it is more humid than others.  Barometric pressure, humidity, air temperature and other such things can create a good or poor environment for a pitcher.  No excuses….

Just a Hiccup – Nothing Terminal

August 28, 2017

Two losses in a row!  The sky is falling!  We are doomed! Not really.  The Dodgers just have the hiccups. They don’t have cancer or heart disease! It will all be fine. It’s a 162 game season and there is no way you can “bring it” every day.  No way, no how!  You can try, but somedays it just ain’t there.  The last I checked, the game was played by…

The Big Blue Dodger Machine

August 26, 2017

I still like the name “The Big Blue Wrecking Crew” but that was another time and another team.  We can’t use the same name again – there are rules against such things.  The 1988 Dodgers were comprised of “The Stunt Men” who include Mickey Hatcher, so that was a fitting moniker too. I thought of other names like “The Blue Juggernaut.”  But, the way this team is built with a…

New Dodger Top Ten Prospects

August 19, 2017

With September looming and the season nearing the playoffs, I thought I would share my thoughts on what the Dodgers Top 10 Prospect list looks like to me. It might be fun to compare mine to AC’s as well. I am sure we will differ.  I tend to look at this differently than many people.  Here’s the list. Dodgers Top 10 Prospects #10 Kyle Farmer  C/Infield – He has taken…

No Bull in This Pen

The Dodgers bullpen held fast last night and Alex Wood did his part to help beat Greinke and the D-Bags.  It wasn’t pretty but our cleanup hitter banged out his 33rd Home Run and our 2nd cleanup hitter drive in another run.  If 4th is cleanup, then 8th is second cleanup – right? It was good to see Joc get a solid double as well.  If he can get it…

So, That’s What it Feels Like to Lose!

August 3, 2017

It’s been so long I had almost forgotten how it felt.  OK, I didn’t like it, so stop it now!  I am just going to ramble on today. Ramblings Brock Stewart is a mere mortal.  His ERA ballooned up to 0.87.  He will likely go down to AAA for 15 days – either him or Ross Stripling. I am looking forward to later this month and this lineup against RH…

And the Beat Goes on…

August 2, 2017

This is almost getting silly.  Are these guys even capable of losing, let alone a losing streak?  If they just win 2out of the next 4 games they will surpass that impossible streak of 42-8 when Puig first flew in. We could look at what the playoff rosters might look like, but it’s way too early.  I have a feeling there will be a few twists.  Will Watson pitch like…

Friedman Doesn’t Blink!

July 31, 2017

The FAZ-bashing had already started after the Trade Deadline came and went, and all the Dodgers had done was acquire two left-handed relievers, who at first blush, looked like they might be qualified to be batting practice pitchers.  On the MLB channel the bashing had started: “If not now, when?”  Then, it was announced that the Dodgers had acquired Yu Darvish, and the FAZ-Bashers crawled back into their holes. Here’s…

What Value Do Other Teams Place on Dodger Prospects?

July 31, 2017

So yesterday the Cubs acquired Justin Wilson and Alex Avila from the Tigers for Jeimer Candelario and Isaac Parades and a PTBNL. Candelario is the #92 MLB prospect, but Parades is the guy the Tigers really wanted. Baseball insiders think Parades has a chance to be a special SS.  The Cubs needed a catcher like Avilia so this fills two spots for them.  The Dodgers had no need for Avilia,…
