Enjoying a Veterans Day weekend in Atascadero, CA celebrating my youngest grand daughter’s first birthday. Frankly, my thoughts are filled with her and not so much Dodger baseball. Trade proposals have been flying around this blog with renewed fervor over the past few weeks. I admit those discussions have a certain excitement to them, much like anticipating that new toy you want for Christmas, all the while knowing that most…
Thank You For Your Service
My late father was a vet, having served in the South Pacific during WWII. During Vietnam (1972), my draft lottery number was 167. They stopped at 164. I always wondered what my life would have been like had they went a few slots further. We can’t say enough to thank you veterans for your service and especially the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice. Let’s Talk Dodger Baseball!
Come on Man!
So the past few days we have seen all sorts of made-up, fantasy league baseball trades…. most of which have no basis in reality. Bluto may have had the best idea: CWS getsJoc Pederson (from Dodgers)George Valera (from Indians)Civale (from Indians) CLEVE gets:Seager (from Dodgers)Maeda (from Dodgers)Kopech (from CWS)James Beard (from CWS) LAD gets:Lindor (from Indians)Kluber (from Indians)Bummer (from CWS)Konor Pilkington (from CWS)Rocchio (from Indians) That was creative in getting…
Here’s A Very Friedman-esque Move
Andrew Friedman is known for finding gems in the garbage pile. Witness Max Muncy, Chris Taylor, Brandon Morrow, and others. But he is not the only one. In 2018, the St. Louis Cardinals signed Miles Mikolas, whom the year before was 14-8 with a 2.25 ERA in the Japanese League. He had gone to Japan after failing as an MLB pitcher. The Cardinals signed him to a 2-year $15.5 Million…
Rule 5 Draft Considerations
So many of us have been looking at FA possibilities and trade possibilities that most have not paid any attention to the first date that will impact the 2020 Dodgers roster. The 40 man roster needs to be set by November 20, 2019 with all Rule 5 eligible prospects protected. The actual Rule 5 draft will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2019. That gives AF and his staff less…
It’s Time To Go Bold
Many loyal Dodger fans believe the Dodgers ownership group is cheap and not interested in winning, and only interested in counting profits. Never mind that the Dodgers have spent more on player personnel contracts over the last five years than any other team. They have also spent lavishly on player development and re-focusing on their MiLB programs. I think we can all agree that the contract costs were not all…
Royce Lewis – 2019 AFL Joe Black Most Valuable Player Award Recipient
The Twins’ No. 1 prospect was named the league’s MVP and finished among the league leaders in several offensive categories. “It’s pretty special,” Lewis said prior to Saturday’s championship game. “I’m just glad my family and friends are able to come out today and celebrate with me.” For his efforts, Lewis was presented with the Joe Black Most Valuable Player Award. The award was first presented in 2002 and is…
Moving Forward
The offseason has barely started, but it will be a very interesting off-season. There are lots of opinions, ideas, and issues. I am well aware of them. I have strong opinions about what should be done. I have been on the Andrew Friedman Bandwagon since the beginning. The Dodgers are on the right path… in my opinion. I will always bleed Dodger Blue and I am their biggest fan, but…
What Makes a Good Manager?
Due to the press of work, my intended post will have to wait until next week or the week thereafter. I have been working on a post that explored the topic of “What makes a good Baseball Manager.” In my research I came across an article by C. Trent Rosecrans, written for Baseball ProGUESTus, in 2012, entitled “What the Insiders Say Makes a Good Manager.” Rosecrans is currently a senior…
What About Kaybear?
Since I started blogging, I have used this as a forum to give my own personal views about certain prospects. I think I have an eye for talent and I have not been shy about picking out certain players and predicting greatness for them. Right around the time I first started posting on Dodger blogs, I was in Vero Beach and became enamored with an 18-year-old prospect who played 3B….
