OKC Comets 5 – Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston) 1

OKC got some excellent pitching both from LHSP Cole Irvin and the 3 relievers.

OKC got the first run on DH James Tibbs III’s solo HR (17) in the 4th inning.  Irvin got the first two outs in the bottom of the 4th, but he issued his only BB to the 3rd hitter and that was followed by 2 singles for the tying run.

In the OKC half of the 6th, 2B Hyeseong Kim led off with a BB and that was followed by CF Tommy Edman’s 1st  HR.  JTIII was HBP.  RF Jack Suwinski and LF Zach Ehrhard hit singles to load the bases.  SS Noah Miller hit a sac fly for the 3rd run of the inning. 

RHRP Nick Frasso relieved Irvin in the 6th and pitched 2.0 perfect innings with 2 K. 

In the 8th, Ehrhard singled, moved to 2nd on a ground out, and scored on Noah Miller’s single.

LHRP Jake Eder pitched 2.0 perfect innings with 2 K, and RHRP Jerming Rosario pitched a perfect 9th with 1 K to close out the win.

Tulsa Drillers 10 – NW Arkansas Naturals (KC) 9

LHSP Wyatt Crowell gave up a run in the top of the first on a single, sac bunt, BB, and RBI single.

In the bottom of the first, Tulsa scored 4 with the first 5 batters reaching.  RH Josue De Paula led off with a single.  DH Mike Sirota and SS Elijah Hainline followed with walks.  LF Zyhir Hope had a bases clearing triple (1).  Hope scored the 4th run on 2B Jake Gelof’s double (5).

In the 2nd, C Frank Rodriguez and JDP singled.  Sirota followed with his first Tulsa HR to score 3.

In the 3rd, 1B Joe Vetrano drew a 1 out BB and JDP hit a 2-run Big Fly (7).

Tulsa jumped out to a 9-1 lead and held it until the 6th.  RHRP Roque Gutierrez entered in the 5th.  He struggled in the 5th with a double, single, and line to CF Chris Newell who threw out the runner at home to end the inning.

In the 6th, Gutierrez was not as fortunate.  He got the first two batters out, but the next batter reached on catcher’s interference that was followed by a 2-run HR.

With Gutierrez still on the mound in the 7th, again he got the first to NWA batters, but that was followed by a single and RBI single.

In the bottom of the 7th, JDP hit his 2nd HR of the game, a solo shot (8).

But then RHRP Christian Ruebeck entered in the 8th.  He faced 5 batters and all 5 scored.  The first four on a grand slam.  He left with a runner on 1st when RHRP Antonio Knowles relieved Ruebeck.  First batter had a sac bunt.  Back to back singles scored the 5th run of the inning.  The Naturals were now within 1.

RHRP Nick Robertson entered in his 16th game still without giving up a run.  The first batter he faced singled, and NWA executed their 3rd sac bunt to put the tying run in scoring position.  No problem for Robertson as he struck out the next batter and retired the last batter on a pop out.  Robertson’s ERA remains 0.00.

Dayton Dragons (Reds) 3 – Great Lakes Loons 2

Great Lakes scored in the 2nd inning.  1B Jose Meza and LF Kole Myers both singled.  A F8 moved Meza to 3rd where he scored on a sac fly from  2B Eduardo Guerrero.

The Loons’ LHSP Sterlin Patick was brilliant for 5.0 innings.  He allowed 2 hits and 2 walks in those 5.0 innings.  In the 6th, Patick walked the first batter before being lifted for RHRP Joseilyn Gonzalez.  Gonzalez threw a WP to move the runner to 2nd.  He got the next two outs, but gave up a run scoring single.  LHRP Matt Lanzendorfer was summoned to get the final out of the inning.

RHRP Isaac Ayon was called in.  He gave up a double, sac bunt, and HR giving Dayton a 3-2 lead.

In the 8th, SS Jose Izarra singled and moved to 2nd on a BB to C Bryan Gonzalez Garcia.  Izarra reached 3B on the DP and scored on CF Eduardo Quintero’s RBI single.  Quintero stole his 22nd base of the year but was stranded.

The Loons went in order in the 9th for the loss.

Ontario Tower Buzzers 9 – Visalia Rawhide 8

Ontario looked as if they were cooling off after their 15 run outburst on Saturday night, but this was one with a great ending.

Ontario got the scoring going in the 3rdC Francisco Espinoza led off with a BB.  Espinoza to 3rd on LF AJ Sodra’s single and scored on a sac fly from SS Mairo Martinus.

RHSP Brady Smith continues to build with positive starts. He was outstanding in his first three innings, retiring the side in order with 6 Ks over those 3.0 innings.  In the 4th, he allowed a leadoff triple who scored on a 1-out single.  He gave up a second single and BB before getting the final two outs.  This was Brady’s 2nd consecutive start with 4.0 innings completed.

RHRP Luis Carias followed, but turned a 1-1 tie into a 7-1 deficit in the 5th and 6th innings.

Martinus homered (4) in the 7th.

After RHRP Javier Bartolozzi got Carias out of the jam in the 6th he allowed an 8th run in the 8th on a triple and ground out.

Ontario loaded the bases with 3 singles in the 8th but only scored once on a force out. 

Ontario was down 8-3 in the 9th when the bats erupted.  First to the plate was 1B Easton Shelton who slugged his California League leading 13th HR.  CF Landyn Vidourek walked and went to 3rd on 2B Javier Herrera’s single.  Vidourek scored on a ground out, and AJ Soldra hit a 2-run HR (6) to cut the deficit to 8-7.  Martinus reached on an error and RF Brendan Tunink walked.  3B Chase Harlan singled to score Martinus for the tying run.  Tunink moved to 3rd on the single with 1 out. With the game on the line DH Ching-Hsien Ko got the walkoff single scoring Tunink.
