OKC Comets 6 – Salt Lake City Bees (LAA) 5
Before the seats got warm, with RHSP Cole Irvin on the bump, SLC had a 1-0 lead after a leadoff double and RBI single.
OKC got the run back in the bottom of the 1st. 3B Kiké Hernández had a one-out single, and 1B Ryan Ward hit a RBI double.
SLC took the lead in the third with a leadoff double and single. After one out, Irvin got the ground ball but could only get a force out with a run scoring.
OKC took the lead for good in the 4th, scoring 5 unearned runs. With one out, LF Jack Suwinski reached 2B on a E7. Suwinski scored on SS Noah Miller’s RBI single. Miller stole 2nd and scored on DH Nick Senzel’s RBI single. C Chuckie Robinson singled and 3 runs scored on 2B Ryan Fitzgerald’s 3-run HR and a 6-2 lead.
In the 6th, with one out, a SLC batter reached on an error, that was followed by a single and BB to load the bases. SLC’s next batter hit a two run single, and Irvin was lifted for LHRP Ronan Kopp who got the DP to end the threat.
With RHRP Jerming Rosario pitching, SLC scored in the 8th to pull within one. In the 9th, Rosario allowed a leadoff single, struck the next 2 batters out, and walked the next one. RHRP Wyatt Mills relieved Rosario and walked the first batter he faced to load the bases. He got CT3 to fly out to end the game.
Noah Miller was the only Comet to have two hits.
Arkansas Travelers (Seattle) 9 – Tulsa Drillers 2
After being named Texas League Pitcher of the Month for April, RHSP Patrick Copen had his worst outing of the year…by far. In 4.2 IP, Copen allowed 9 runs (all earned) on 9 hits, 5 BB, and 9 K. He surrendered 2 HR, a solo HR and 3-run HR. He also allowed a pair of doubles. Copen was lifted after the 3-run HR.
In the 7th. RF Zyhir Hope walked and scored on 1B Joe Vetrano’s 4th HR.
After Copen was lifted, 4 relievers finished the final 3.1 scoreless IP.
- Kendall George – 2-5
- Josue De Paula – 2-5, 1 RBI, double (6)
- Kyle Nevin – 2-4, 1 BB
- Elijah Hainline – 2-4, 1BB, 1 run, 1 RBI, HR (5)
- Joe Vetrano – 1-5, 1 run, 2 RBI, HR (4)
This was a forgettable game.
Lake County Captains (Cleveland) 15 – Great Lakes Loons 13 –– Game 1, 8 Innings
This was a game filled with large, crooked innings, and multiple lead changes.
LHSP Sterling Patick had a very rough start. In the 1st inning, two walks and a single loaded the bases. It was a balk that brought in the first run.
Down 1-0 in the 2nd, 1B Jose Meza led off with a single. With 1 out, 3B Eduardo Guerrero drew a BB. Meza and Guerrero pulled off a double steal. SS Jose Izarra hit a sac fly for the tying run. After LF Charles Davalan walked, CF Mike Sirota singled home Guerrero and a 2-1 lead. The third run scored after an E5.
LC tied the score in the 3rd after a 2 out single and 2-run HR.
GL went back in front in the 4th. Guerrero led off with a single, and Izarra reached on an error. After a ground out, Sirota hit a 3-run HR. RF Eduardo Quintero drew a walk, and with 2 outs, 2B Nico Perez doubled him home and a 7-3 lead.
That lead was short-lived. With Patick still on the mound, there was a BB, single, and 3-run HR. Patick was done for the day without recording an out in the 4th. RHRP Nicolas Cruz was summoned. Cruz was welcomed with 5 singles, a double, a WP, and a balk allowing 6 runs to score. LC took a 12-7 lead.
Great Lakes tied it up in the 6th with 5 runs. Davalan was HBP and Sirota and Quintero both walked. Davalan scored on DH Logan Wagner’s SF, with Sirota going to 3B. Quintero stole 2nd. Perez doubled (9) home both runners. C Jesus Galiz drew a BB and Guerrero doubled (4) home the final 2 baserunners and a 12-12 tie.
With Logan Wagner as the placed runner, Meza singled him home. With RHRP Reynaldo Yean on the mound and a runner at 2B, he walked the first batter. After an out was recorded, Yean gave up a 3-run HR, and Lake County won Game 1 15-13.
- Mike Sirota – 3-3, 2 BB, 2 runs, 4 RBI, double (10), HR (7)
- Eduardo Guerrero – 3-3, 1 BB, 1 run, 2 RBI, doubles (4)
- Nico Perez – 2-5, 1 run, 2 RBI, 2 doubles (9)
- Jose Meza – 2-5, 1 run, 1 RBI
Great Lakes Loons 7 – Lake County Captains (Cleveland) 2, Game 2, 7 Innings
RHSP Logan Tabeling is having a good May with back to back excellent starts.
GL jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st. RF Mike Sirota led off with a BB and scored on LF Eduardo Quintero’s RBI double. Quintero scored on DH Logan Wagner’s RBI single.
In the 3rd, Quintero led off with a ground rule double (4), and scored on a 2-out double (10) by 2B Nico Perez upping the score to 3-0.
In the 4th, Lake County had a single and run scoring double off Tabeling.
In the 5th, GL got the run back. Sirota led off with a BB, stole 2B, and moved to 3B on a ground out. CF Charles Davalan hit a sac fly.
In the 6th, with 2 outs, 3B Eduardo Guerrero and 1B Samuel Munoz drew BBs. SS Jose Izarra hit a 3-run HR to widen the lead to 7-1.
In the 6th, Tabeling struck out the leadoff hitter and was relieved by LHRP Matt Lanzendorfer. The first batter Lanzendorfer faced hit a HR. That was the final score for either team.
- Eduardo Quintero – 2-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 2 doubles (4)
- Nico Perez – 2-4, 1 RBI, double (10)
- Jose Izarra – 1-3, 1 run, 3 RBI, HR (3)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (LAA) 2 – Ontario Tower Buzzers 1
This was a well-pitched game for low A. RHP Isaac Ayon went the first 5.1 innings allowing 2 hits, 1 BB, and 5 K. Unfortunately for Ayon and Ontario one of those hits in the 6th was a leadoff HR. A 2nd unearned run scored in the 6th.
Ontario scored an unearned run of their own in the 7th when 1B Jose D. Hernandez singled home C Anson Aroz who reached on an error.
RHRP Jholbran Herder and RHRP Jhonny Jimenez pitched the final 2.2 innings without a run or hit. Okay they did give up 2 BB and struck out 3.
Pitching was good, but the offense??? 3B Chase Harlan was 1-2 with a 2 BB, and SS Emil Morales hit his 14th double.
Royals ACL 13 – Dodgers ACL 12 – 10 innings
Royals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st. Dodgers put up the next 9 with 4 in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th.
The Dodgers hit 2 solo HR by LF Elias Medina and 3B Bryan Gonzalez Garcia. CF Landyn Vidourek hit a 2-run HR.
The first five batters in the 4th hit 3 doubles and 2 singles plated 4. A SB and 2 WP scored a 5th run. C Francisco Espinoza, Medina, and Gonzalez hit the run scoring doubles.
In the 6th, the Royals had 1-out back to back singles that moved up on a WP and both scored on a single. Two walks to load the bases and a double cleared the bases. The Dodgers held a 9-8 lead after 6.
The Dodgers got two more in the 7th after a HBP, walk, WP and DH Aidan West’s double brought both runners home.
The Royals scored 2 in the 8th and one in the 9th to force the game into extra innings.
Gonzalez hit his 2nd double and plated a go-ahead run in the 10th.
The Royals scored 2 in the bottom of the 10th for the win.
- Brendan Tunink – 2-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI
- Elias Medina – 3-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI, HR (1), double (1)
- Bryan Gonzalez Garcia – 3-5, 2 runs, 4 RBI, HR (1), 2 doubles (2)

Excellent work Jeff. Sirota should be promoted to AA Tulsa soon. Padres lose to the surprising Cardinals and are now a full game back in the NL West.
Sirota does deserve to be promoted. IMO he should have been in Tulsa to begin the year. Then again they do not pay me the big bucks to make those decisions.
But just like Badger said about Ko needing to be promoted, how? He has Sirota, Davalan, and Quintero blocking him. They have De Paula, Hope, and George blocking them. They have Tibbs, Suwinski, and Siani at AAA. Yes, they could bump Siani, but that defeats what the Dodgers generally use AAA for…get the most MLB ready reserves ready. Ward is in that group but he probably plays more 1B. Ehrhard had a great start but has cooled considerably since. Maybe he finds it again. Ehrhard and Siani basically share the CF job.
Yes, the role of AAA across major league baseball has changed both rapidly and dramatically. Stavenhagen @TheAthletic wrote about this and the implications on player development. TL;DR it makes it much more difficult, especially for position players.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5605564/2024/07/01/mlb-minors-player-reset-torkelson/
Ardaya also alluded to this when discussing Tibbs and a possible promotion:
The Dodgers have also been up front that there has never been a bigger gap between Triple A and the majors, especially when you’re trying to break in as part of such an accomplished and veteran-laden lineup. He’s not blocked, necessarily, but it would take a clear runway (likely a long-term injury or surprise trade) to open up a real chance worth giving to Tibbs.
Finally, and this will appear in my next big boy post, Longenhagen weighed in on Sirota and promotions:
Mr. Burrito: Sirota is old (23?) for his league (high A), and it feels obvious that he should jump. But he’s kinda stuck, as the Dodgers have a bunch of prospects at his position above him. Is this the actual (and maybe only) problem with spending free agent money in the way they have?
Eric A Longenhagen: If the problem is “we have too much talent” it’s not really a problem. He’s played 60 games at High A now, I agree we’re getting to the point where he should be promoted to stress test his hit tool (this guy still has a fairly sizeable hole in his swing up and away) against pitchers who can execute that location better, but then maybe a reason to hold him down is so that hole isn’t exposed and he retains trade value. Good prospect tho
Love your minor league reports Jefe. One thing I have noticed watching the OKC games, those pitchers have very little control. I have never seen so many walks this early in the year. The other night didn’t OKC have 10 walks? Dodgers got 6 walks when they beat the Stros on Wednesday.
Sure seems like a lot of runs being given up by the minor league system.
Atlanta. A true test of where this team is in early May? Yeah, I guess. But for this team, all these early games feel like practice games. It’s still Spring and will be for another 6 weeks. Kinda like it’s still Spring Training. Teo and Ohtani haven’t been hitting, neither is Smith really, OPS’n .721. Freddie, .773, is way under his career average of .895. The $60 million man has been ho-hum and Mookie isn’t even there. All that and the team is still first in OPS. Team pitching has been outstanding so far, giving up the fewest earned runs in all of baseball.
Anyone remember an American thoroughbred named Silky Sullivan? Great name. He was famous for his extreme often come from behind finishes. I’d like to think this Dodger team will finish like Silky Sullivan.
Collectively this team remains fun to watch. So much is expected of them. Hope we see it over the coming months.
And today? Sheehan vs Sale. Hmm. Looking at the ERA’s it appears a mismatch. But lately we have seen a few opposing pitchers with inflated ERA’s hold our offense down. May baseball. Extended Spring Training?
The Dodgers still lead baseball in Team OPS and are .01 behin the Cubs for the #1 spot in Teams OB%. They are 5th in runs scored and 2nd in Team ERA.
AVF is right, and I think there will be a trickle up effect soon. Once Kike is activated, I look for Siani to either be released or not play much. Zach Ehrhard is somewhat overmatched at OKC as well. Both Siani and Erhard have the sme OPS – .665. I wonder if they might move Kendall George and DePaula to OKC and Sirota and Davalan to Tulsa. Quintero looks totally overmatched at GL right about now, but he is very young. Logan Wagner is absolutely crushing it in GL as well. I think he’s ready to move up as well.
One reason the Dodgers might want to make these moves sooner than later is the “showcasing effect.” If players appear close to MLB ready, they are easier to trade to teams like the Pirates. If the Pirates are inclined to trade Paul Skenes, and under their current ownership, I think they are, the the Dodgers will have to oeverwhelm them with MLB-Ready Prospects. Skenes is a generational talent, who is only 23 years old. Skubal is nearly 30 and has an injury history. The Pirates will likely have to pay him around $30 Million next year. I can’t see them doing that!
Agreed that it has to be a domino effect and it needs to start at OKC. Both Siani and Ehrhard are not necessary. Siani (27 in July) is 3 1/2 years older than Ehrhard (turned 23 in January). Siani is an outstanding defensive CF. Siani is on the 40 man. It is Ehrhard’s 1st year at AAA. Both are considered a 4th OF, but as long as LAD has Alex Call, how much need will it be for either of them. Both Tibbs III and Ward are not necessary. Hopefully Ward will find his way out in a trade in July. They will keep Suwinski until the trade deadline and hope he keeps mashing. Once those decisions are made, the other dominoes will follow.
With Quintero, he is 20 and is showing signs of pulling out of his funk. For the last 7 games, Quintero is slashing .395/.500/.500/1.000 in 32 PA. He will not sustain these numbers, but he will be closer to these than those he put up for the first part of the year. Patience is needed with Quintero.
Great article by Stubbins about 1B coach Woodward’s glowing comments about Kim’s work ethics, speed and defense, comparing him to a 4 time GOLD GLOVE winner. Woodward’s comments, according to Stubbins, is that the Dodgers are starting to respect speed and defense to balance the lineup.
Mark had a good point about clearing out the farm for Skenes, especially the outfield. Like Don Corleone said, “Make them an offer they can’t refuse”.
I 100% support pushing the kids, but as Jeff always tells us, the Dodgers really do slow play their prospects.
Who knows, maybe with the impending lockout next year, they’ll think a bit differently this year .
Not going for a three peat. Look at their patience with Conforto last year.
It sure looks like the Cubs hitting coaches have figured out something with Conforto. In 45 PA, Conforto is batting .361/.467/.667/1.133, 226 OPS+.That damage has come against RHP. Last year with the Dodgers against RHP, Conforto was batting .190/.292/.323/.615 and a 71 OPS+.
I heard on MLB radio this morning it was Bergman that pointed out something and Conforto has been hot since then

BA on Sirota:
The Dodgers’ system is flush with outfield talent, and Sirota, who topped this week’s Hot Sheet, is arguably becoming the most well-rounded among that group.
Sirota was limited to 59 games in 2025, and that is the primary reason he’s still in High-A. A promotion should be coming soon, however, as Sirota is showing outstanding swing decisions and power. There’s some swing-and-miss in the zone, but it’s at an acceptable level, and he chases just 10% of the time.
Sirota has a great blend of approach, power and contact. If he can stay healthy, he has all-star upside.
I hear that Mookie could be back next week. Would the Dodgers be bold enough to move him to 2B and leve Kim at SS?
Freeland could be trade bait!
You know how I feel about Kim – and that very move.
Having been raised in Orange County, Skenes was actually an Angel fan growing up. Lake Forest, actually where I’m living now, is more Southern Orange County which borders San Diego County. With the new billionaire ownership group I’m thinking they may want to keep the Dodgers from getting a kid who basically grew up in their backyard. Feliciano & Friends can afford to pay Skenes whatever is necessary, what kind of package can they offer Pittsburgh? It would appear their farm system is a mess. Is it even possible?
And that said, without even doing any research my Magic 8 Ball says YANKEES.
I’m all in with Kim at SS but dissing Mookie might not be good for the team chemistry although he is a true team player. Freeland is a switch hitter which give a team manager options and limits opposing managers options. He is getting better with more playing time and should improve .I just think the Kike signing is not going to improve the team.
Bold or stupid? Moolie has made himself an outstanding defensive SS
Why don’t we see more minor league trades. We have a huge OF surplus. How about a trade for some 2B, SS and 3B prospects?
I asked Kyle Glaser this once and posted his response on Jeff’s old site.
Can’t remember it though.
I’ll try to Google-Fu it
Thx
@Cassidy. Found it:
Kyle Glaser responded to my chat question about why there are so few prospect for prospect trades!
Thanks for the question. A lot of it simply has to do with the fact that teams primarily look at prospects as trade capital for major leaguers. You’re essentially trading the future for the present. There’s not really much incentive for a team to trade a prospect for another prospect – if you’re going to take the future risk of trading prospects, might as well trade them for a major leaguer who you know will help you now.
If they are trades in the minors, they usually are not reported on the sites like MLBTR unless a MLB talent is part of the trade. But you can go to the transactions page for OKC or another team and see them there. LA can trade prospects, but it does not happen that often. Even when they traded Feduccia last season, it was for a player who had been DFAd. You might see something like that. But usually, they will be part of a major transaction like at the deadline. Prospect for prospect trades are rare. D-Backs DFAd Alex Thomas.
Mookie scheduled to be in OKC for rehab assignment for Friday and Saturday. Then…?
Chicago Cub Conforto
.361 BA 1.134 OPS
LA Dodger Conforto
Ugly
So AF wasn’t wrong. Just a year too early.
More pressure to perform in LA than Chicago. Maybe he should have just been platooned.
Les than 40ABs. Its still early
No, AF was wrong about Conforto… to the tune of $17 million.
The Cubs are paying a lot less.
Guardians DFAd Connor Brogdon. Cubs exploring the early trade market for a starting pitcher. They have 3 down with injuries. Sale, who pitches tonight for Atlanta, has a 6-1 record. LA needs to have their hitting shoes on.
Cubs have already spoken to the Mets about Peralta, but I’m guessing it was mostly a one-way conversation.
Snell will be added to the roster tomorrow and will take Sasaki’s start against the Braves, per MLBTR.
Glasnow must be going on the IL.
Gervase takes his place on the roster for today, but he will get sent down when they activate Snell.
LA a little nervous about getting swept. Not expecting much offense tonight
Strider is just coming off of the IL. He has pitched just 3.1 innings so far and gave up 3 runs. He is pitching game 2. Doubt they get swept. Sale is 1-2 against LA in 5 games in his career. ERA is 6.65. Any pitcher can be beaten on any given day. He has one loss, more concerned about Sheehan vs this lineup.
I predict 4 innings
Move George to AAA and move up Sirota. Siani is dead weight.
George to AAA strikes me as a good idea.
While the De Paula, Hope, Sirota and Quintero all are thought to have higher ceilings, George’s speed could make him a weapon if a spot opens up in LA.
Of course George has to prove he can hit at the next level. But he might be more ready to contribute as a 4th OF, pinch hitter and pinch runner.

Gervase with a locker in the clubhouse tonight.

I’d like to see Hurt in more high leverage situations. I think his stuff is filthy.
Glasnow hits the IL
Mookie hits line drive single in the 1st inning and on his 1st swing at OKC.
He flied out to Chris Taylor his second AB. Salt Lake up 6-1. Kike is 0-2 with 2 Ks. About his normal night.
Roberts said that Sasaki would be moved to Monday against the Giants, then Yoshi and Shohei. Giants get to face the Samurai Squad.
If all goes well, Mookie could be activated for the Giants series. Kike 0-3 tonight, Mookie 1-3.
Sheehan is starting to put it all together. Baby steps!
Pulled with 2 outs and 2 on in the 5th with Olson coming up. Vesia in.
Sale is a tough nut to crack. Scoring one was a small victory. Get him out, work on the pen.
Muncy now up to 34 Ks.
Teoscar now up to 41 Ks against 13 walks.
Much-maligned Max, meanwhile, has 20 walks against those 34 Ks. His OBP is .380 and his OPS is .921. He’s had a bit of bad luck hitting HRs with nobody on base–but Max is also tied with that Japanese lead-off hitter in runs scored at 25, just behind Tucker’s 26.
Max scoring as often as Shohei… whoda thunk it?
All considered, I am less concerned about Max’s production than that of Teo (.678 OPS), Tucker (.738) and Will Smith (.695.) Both Shohei and Freddie are also performing below their typical levels.
Statistically, the only regular who is outperforming Max is Pages, who is putting up true all-star numbers: a .329 BA, 33 RBI, .925 OPS, and 8 HRs.
Cardinals up 6-0 on the Padres.
Miggy could end up on the 10-day IL. He is hobbling around.
Nice win today, producing just enough offense to beat the resurgent Braves and ace Chris Sale.
Sheehan had a strong if somewhat short start… and the bullpen was nails.
I looking forward to seeing Mookie and Snell back in action. Glasnow’s aching back was nicely timed, providing Snell with a spot in the rotation. I had looked like Sheehan or Wrobo or Sasaki might be shifted to the pen. So Glasnow’s pain provides temporary reprieve.
I suspect Mookie’s return means we can thank Espinal for his services and hope that he winds up in OKC.
Or maybe Miggy goes on the IL…
Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Padres shut out by Cardinals. Az loses; Rockies beat Phillies. Giants beat Pirates. Freddies homer was his 100th as a Dodger, tying him with Yeager on the all-time list. He went 25 games between homers. Scott threw 11 pitched to get 3 outs in the 9th for his 3rd save. Dodgers now 2 games in front of the Padres.
Machado 0-4 tonight. He is hitting .198.
