Dodgers Becoming a Juggernaut

Like the imaginary creation of Marvel Studios, some believe the Dodgers are putting together a roster that would be considered unstoppable by most pundits and experts, in other words, a baseball juggernaut.

The Yankees teams that won four consecutive World Series from 36-39, and the Yankees team that won five straight from 49-53 were also considered unbeatable. LA is shooting for its third. Last accomplished by another tough Yankees team, 98-2000.

In this era though, winning three in a row is a lot harder considering the number of series needed for the feat to be accomplished. Let’s be serious for a moment. After cruising through the first three series last year, the Dodgers were severely tested against the Blue Jays, who were two outs away from winning the whole thing.

The Jays also had a couple of spectacular defensive plays keep them from walking the series off in back-to-back games. Rojas’s play at the plate, the DP pulled off at the end of game six by Kike and Rojas, and Pages great catch in game 7.

LA gets a game tying homer from the least expected player to do so, Rojas, and the game winner from Smith. Otherwise, we are talking about another post-season gut-wrenching loss. And don’t forget the marathon 18 inning win in game 3, putting LA up 2-1 before they would lose 2 straight at home and head to Toronto down 3-2.

So, what do they do? Well, they sure did not stand pat and rest on their laurels. They added one of the best closers in the game and then went out and signed the player considered the top offensive player available to close a huge hole in the offense. Just getting Diaz and Tucker improves the team dramatically and opens several options to how they will align the roster come March when the season opens.

Signing Tucker might be the death nell for a player like Ward to ever make the team. It also probably sends Siani to AAA. Unless they were to move Hernandez, now unlikely since it seems they would rather move him into left, where he played well in 2024. The outfield would be LF, Teo, CF, Pages, and Tucker in right. That makes Call the 4th outfielder.

With players like Edman and Kim who can also play the outfield, usually CF, the need for Ward or Siani is just not there. There has also been chatter that the Dodgers are ACTIVELY pursuing starter, Freddy Peralta of the Brewers. Adding Peralta to an already loaded starting pitcher group seems a bit like over kill.

But you’re starting five would be Yamamoto, Ohtani, Snell, Glasnow and Peralta. With talent like Sasaki, Sheehan, Ryan and Stone backing them up. That sort of leaves guys like Knack and Miller twisting in the wind, and Frasso and Nastrini destined for another year at AAA. There will be injuries and the possibility of that depth getting tested. But like they have the last several seasons, LA plans for the post season, and limits its pitchers as much as they can.

Peralta will not be without some cost, most certainly a young arm or two, and possible a major league ready position player. Just who that might be is anyone’s guess. We should know soon whether it will happen or not. The Tucker deal is not official yet and they need an open roster spot for that. If they do trade for Peralta, they will most likely include at least one player on the 40-man.

Are the Dodgers truly a juggernaut? By the literal definition of the word, I think not. If you listen to the fans of other teams, they are.

This article has 101 Comments

  1. The Dodgers won’t have a 5 man rotation for the foreseeable future. 6 starters for them is now the norm.

    1. With 3 Japanese pitchers in the rotation,Ohtoni,Yamamoto and Sasski a 6 man rotation is a must with them pitching no more than once a week as they did in Japan.

    2. That’s pretty much the case. If they get Peralta, the front five would be Ohtani, Yamamoto, Snell, Glasnow and Peralta leaving Knack, Sasaki, Stone, Ryan and Sheehan fighting for the six job. But if they do get Peralta, one of those guys is most likely in the deal.

  2. I agree, bear I don’t think the Dodgers or a juggernaut! I think they’re very well managed team with a lot of talent and a lot of very good players. Otani is really the only one I would consider a superstar now. Mookie and Freddie and now Kyle Tucker are excellent players, but I don’t consider any of them superstars right now. The Dodgers have a great pitching but with her injury, history and a couple of other unknowns is it correct to consider any of them superstars. Yamamoto was a superstar in the World Series in the playoffs. Snell had a couple of games in the playoffs that were outstanding Glasnow in my opinion may have the best stuff of any of them, but injuries have kept him down throughout his career. If Ohtani concentrated on pitching only he may be the best or one of the best ever. But his value is most as a two-way player. Do the Dodgers really need Freddie Peralta? Probably not, but I still think it’s more of a keep him away from other teams than it is a case of need. Personally, I don’t think the deal gets done.

Still a lot of chatter about Teo, and possibly moving him. I don’t think they trade him as I said earlier I think he has a bounce back and a very, very good year at the plate. I also think if he comes in lighter as reported he’ll be just fine in left field. I really look for Max Muncy to have a solid very good season. Max makes some very good defensive plays at third, but he also can look mediocre at times. I know he wants to finish his career as a dodger. I think a lot depends on how well he plays this season.
As far as Kim goes, he has an opportunity to solidify the second base position. The only question is well he hit enough to make a claim at the position if he doesn’t, he still valuable off the bench. As far as Rojas, don’t know what to expect, but after what he did in the World Series, he’s earned the right to finish his career as a dodger. Tommy Edman? How will he look when he comes back? I hope he’s finally healthy because he’s very valuable infield and outfield.. as I said earlier I hope Dalton rushing gets enough bats to show everybody how good he can be, but unless Smith gets hurt, he’ll catch at least 70 percent of the games and as I and others have stated, Fred’s gonna need some time during the season to stay fresh. Maybe Dalton does spell Teo in Leftfield. But with Alex, call out there it will be hard for Dalton to get much time in left field.

Pitchers and catchers will soon report and the journey begins again. I’m sure the Giants aren’t quite done trying to get better. Arizona will score some runs and be very competitive . Padres? Bull pen will be excellent not sure about the starting pitching or the whole lineup. Rockies? Probably lucky to win 60 games. Can’t wait till it all starts again! wait.

    1. If Dalton relieves anyone, it will be Freeman. He has logged more time at first than he has in the outfield. I don’t think LA considers him an outfield option at this point in time.

    2. The National League West stinks. If the Dodgers choose to so ,they will win the West by 10 or more games.Chill Dodgerdad everything is going be OK.

      1. Nobody’s sweating the division! Just saying the giants backs, and padres are going to be very competitive. Remember a couple of years ago when the backs swept the Dodgers in the playoffs.? Now it’s a given the Dodgers are much better now . I’m not afraid of any team in the west. But I will say that the cubs might make me take notice. And no I don’t believe they’re better than the dodgers! I really thought the braves might be a very good team. But either way Kim down for up to 6 months, that hurts their chances.

    1. Hope they beat Seattle Sunday and the Patriots if that’s the matchup in the Super Bowl.

  3. They are a juggernaut but in modern baseball juggernauts can be felled.

Injuries, short series, other teams getting hot all can stpp them.

    Dave Roberts too!

      1. Some people just don’t like Doc, but the one thing I noticed is that his decisions have improved 100%. But he can only play the guys the front office gives him. Once they are on the field, it is out of his hands.

        1. We all know that, but he still has the highest winning percentage of any manager EVER. After he puts them in the game, it is out of his hands. Performance is always on the players. His best trait is how he communicates with his players, and they trust the man. That counts for a lot.

          1. Tucker likely batting 2nd or 3rd was a minor revelation in today’s press conference.
Makes a lot of sense with Tucker’s OBP.

  4. We are the West Coast Evil Empire with lots of green and lots of smarts. Come get us if you can. Tell me what franchise is better run in all of sports. NONE,a big fat NONE. I suffered many years when the Yankees were the East Coast Evil Empire when George was running the team. Not anymore.

    1. Technically, yes. I think I have 8 hours credited to IU.

My son went to the Kelly School of Business at IU and had about 40 hours before he dropped out.

My daughter is the only one in the family with a degree… in Mortuary Science!

We are just a bunch of illiterate dropouts!

        1. Indiana University is a great school. Period.

Indiana University is most famous for its top-ranked programs in Business (Kelley School), Music (Jacobs School), and Informatics (Luddy School).

We live about 35 minutes North of IU.

  5. Mark, don’t forget Kofax, 1966. The whole year. 27 wins. 27 COMPLETE games. All on a tired arthritic arm about to fall off. A long moment I know, but one we will never see again.

  6. Andruw Joanes and Carlos Beltran elected to the Hall of Fame. They will join Jeff Kent when they are inducted on the 26th of July. Two exe Dodgers and one former cheato. 11 players did not get 5% of the vote including Matt Kemp and Howie Kendrick. Manny Ramirez fell way short in his final year on the ballot.

  7. A few thoughts:
Doc had to deal with superstars who were playing hurt, not hitting, not running to he bases well and showing crappy defense in the dog days of summer last year. He got them out of their funk and playing like the professionals they were as they got healthy. Kudos to him for that and some great calls and trust in what he had on the team.

2026: Unless the Gnats or Pods make super trades on the next month, the rest of the NL West will suck hind teat like the litter runt. Period

2026 (Part Duce). The Dodgers will win the West going away and should take care of the NL maybe setting up another great WS with the Blow Jays or some very lucky AL team who gets hot at the right time and beats them. If that happens the pundits will talk about how the Dodgers are ruining the game and a payroll cap is inevitable . But it won’t matter in 2026 because the Dodgers are going to Threepeat because they the have a solid power laden offense with good defense, spectacular pitching and a manager who knows how to handle all these superstars. They will play hard and smart for Doc because they respect and trust him as he does them. Thanks to all of you writers and fans for making this a great site. Mark deserves a lot of thanks for keeping it alive. Can’t wait to see what Spring Training brings.

  8. Breaking News: White Sox to trade Luis Robert Jr. to the Mets for Luisangel Acuna and minor league RHP, Truman Pauley per Jeff Passan of ESPN.

  9. The Mets need Robert Jr. to deliver. Certainly worth the gamble after losing out on Tucker.
I’m warming to the idea of Peralta. Think Glasnow without the injuries.

    1. He’ll be on the IL before you know it. The Mets are a terrible run franchise with no culture and a good chance to miss the playoffs again.

  10. 01/20/26 Los Angeles Dodgers sent 3B Ryan Fitzgerald outright to Oklahoma City Comets.

  11. I asked Google AI what a Juggernaut was. Here was the reply:

“A juggernaut is a massive, unstoppable force or entity that overwhelms obstacles, like a powerful corporation (e.g., Google or Apple) becoming an “industry juggernaut,” a dominant sports team (e.g., a championship basketball team), or a huge, unstoppable truck (literally a “juggernaut lorry”). It signifies overwhelming power, often with a slightly negative connotation of being uncontrolled, originating from stories of giant chariots in India where devotees sacrificed themselves. “

    The Dodgers are a juggernaut!

  12. So Andrew Jones and Carlos Beltran are Hall of Famers and Maurey Wills is not? Something is very wrong with this process.

    1. Maury was one of a kind and changed the game, but his career OPS is .661 and his OPS+ is 88. 100 is an average player, so he was 12% below average.

Andruw Jones Career OPS was .824 and his OPS+ was 111.

Carlos Beltran’s career OPS was .837, and his OPS+ was 119.

I can’t make a case for Maury being in the HOF. Bill Mazeroski is a close comp, and I never thought he should have been a Hall of Famer!

        1. It was carried on the MLB NETWORK. Great news conference. Tucker wearing number 23 answered all the questions and will fit in nicely into the lineup and clubhouse.

  13. “Tommy Edman’s recovery from right ankle debridement surgery is progressing well, and he is expected to be ready for the start of spring training, although he could potentially start the season on the Injured List depending on how carefully the Dodgers manage his return.

    Latest Status
Surgery Details: Edman underwent a debridement procedure on his problematic right ankle in November 2025 after dealing with the injury for the better part of two seasons. The surgery was described as going smoothly.

Recovery Timeline: As of early December 2025, Edman was in a boot, expecting to start moving around Christmas time. General manager Brandon Gomes expressed optimism that the recovery would not affect a “meaningful part” of the season. However, some recent reports and commentators have cast doubt on his readiness for Opening Day, suggesting a cautious approach to his return is more likely.

Opening Day: While the original expectation was that he would be ready for spring training and not impact his Opening Day availability, a firm timeline isn’t set, and starting the season on the IL remains a possibility. The Dodgers intend to allow his ankle to fully heal before rushing him back to full speed”.

  14. Mark, going back to Wills, you know I have great respect for your baseball knowledge, but I must disagree. Stats don’t tell the whole story. Not only did he change the game, he was one half of 3 championships. We had great pitching on one side of the ball. On the other side, Maury Wills manufactured just enough runs to win. I will admit Andrew Jones had some great years, and his defense is undeniable, but Beltran? Bonds and Clemons have to be scratching their heads. I would vote for neither, but did they cheat the game any more than Beltran? and “for Pete’s sake”, Rose bet in HIS team. Against the rules for sure, but did he cheat the game? Sorry, just a bit frustrated. 2017 still stings.

    1. Voters are getting younger. I watched some of the analysts on MLB.TV discuss the voting last night. A couple of things derailed Beltran from getting elected sooner. One was the cheating scandal with the Astros that he was a huge part of his last season with the Mets. Another was a domestic violence charge that happened after he retired. But his numbers and his career WAR, 70.0, certainly are hall worthy. Based on just his numbers in Atlanta, Jones also had a strong case. He has warts for sure, and he was one of the worst free agent signings the Dodgers ever made. But 10 straight Gold Gloves, 5 all-star selections, voters now look at periods of time. Was he the best CF of his era? Obviously, he was. For all his speed, Wills was just an average SS. He did win an MVP and brought the stolen base back to the game, but his overall stats are just not good enough. The ERA Committee has already rejected him twice. Posey is on the ballot next year. Is he a Hall of Famer? His career numbers do not jump out at you, but Brian Kenny and the analysts on the show last night believe both he and Jon Lester will both be first ballot guys.

  15. According to Kurt Badenhausen of Sportico, Ohtani joined Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Stephen Curry as the only athletes to make $100 million in endorsements in a single year:

Before Ohtani, endorsement earnings for MLB players peaked around $10 million for Derek Jeter and Ichiro Suzuki. Ohtani’s $100 million in estimated endorsement earnings is a threshold reached by only three athletes ever in Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Stephen Curry, who each did it one time.

It is believed that Ohtani has at least 20 brand partners, including New Balance, Fanatics, Beats by Dre, Ito En and Panasonic.

The four-time MVP added a half-dozen companies to his endorsement portfolio in 2025 alone, including Epic Games, which saw him become the first active MLB player added to popular video game “Fortnite.”

  16. In other news, Andy Pages will not represent Team Cuba in the World Baseball Classic, a notable blow to the team’s chances in the tournament.

However, he is focusing on improving for the upcoming season, an exciting development for Los Angeles

“I have a lot of things to improve, and I need to prepare for a long season,” Pages said. “I have to focus on what’s most important.”

  17. Dodgers expected to introduce and make Tucker’s signing official very soon. Bichette and Suarez signings becoming official today.

    1. Just saw the news conference on Bo Bichette on the MLB NETWORK which lasted a whole 10 minutes. Bo speaking doesn’t appear to be a Rhodes Scholar.

  18. HOF Bottom of the ladder (lowest WAR)

    1 Tommy McCarthy ~14
    2 Jesse Haines ~26
    3 High Pockets Kelly ~27

    7 George Kelly ~31
    8 Jim Bottomley ~32
    9 Bill Mazeroski ~36
    10 Rube Marquard ~37

I would argue that all of those players do not belong… but they are there. Maury Wills had a career WAR of 39.7. So, if you compre him to them, well maybe… but they were all from the “Dead Ball ERA.”

    Compare that to these players:

  19. The Yankees and Cody Bellinger are going to reunite on a new deal, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. The Boras Corporation client gets a five-year deal worth $162.5MM, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. There are no deferrals, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. Bellinger can opt out after the second and third season, per Passan, who adds that there’s a $20MM signing bonus and full no-trade clause. The opt-outs will be pushed by a year if the 2027 season is wiped out by a lockout, per Nightengale. The Yanks currently have a 40-man vacancy and won’t need to make a corresponding move unless they fill that spot before this agreement becomes official.

  20. ASs predicted:
01/21/26 Los Angeles Dodgers designated CF Michael Siani for assignment.

  21. No room at the inn for everybody. Curious about what happens to Kike? If it comes down to Call and Kike, who stays? Odds are it’s Kike because of his versatility. Heck , Call could probably start in Pittsburgh or Colorado, or for the white Sox. I guess Edman’s ankle will determine a lot in the coming weeks.

Carlos Beltran has the numbers to be a hall of famer. As does Andrew Jones. So I guess that means the cheaters from Houston will get in if Beltran isn’t being penalized. Beltran was an amazing talent. He wasn’t allowed to manage the Mets, but with only a slap on the wrist, hinch and Cora are doing just fine. I know, it’s time to let the past go. But the hall of fame used to be hallowed grounds. Cheating and peddling have tarnished it. Maybe someday the shine will return.

    1. Kiki will be signed at the start of Spring Training when he and Edman will be allowed to be put on the 60 Day IL.

  22. Dodgers’ Andrew Friedman seemingly shuts down potential Freddy Peralta trade pursuit

“As expected, the Los Angeles Dodgers have stayed busy this offseason, signing players such as Edwin Diaz and Kyle Tucker. However, it seems as if the Dodgers are finished adding at at least one position.

Los Angeles has plenty of talent in their pitching rotation from Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, a fully healthy Shohei Ohtani and more. Because of that president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman all but shut down the Dodgers acquiring more starting pitching, via Doug McKain of Dodgers Nation.

“We are not,” Friedman responded when asked if the team was still in the market for starting pitching”..

The Dodgers don’t need Peralta or any starting pitcher for a 3 peat.

  23. AtTuckers introduction today, it was interesting to hear Roberts say that Tucker would most likely hit 2nd or 3rd in the lineup.

    1. Here’s what I think will start the season:

      1. Ohtani DH
      2. Betts SS
      3. Tucker RF
      4. Smith C
      5. Freeman 1B
      6. Pages CF
      7. Muncy 3B
      8. Teoscar LF
      9. Rojas/Kim/Edman 2B

Rushing, Call, Kim, and Rojas will play a lot early in the season. Don’t overlook Ibanez! He is very underrated.

    2. Also interesting to hear how the Dodgers thought they could mitigate the loss of draft picks and draft bonus.

    1. I don’t think Edman will be ready at the start, and I look for incremental improvement from Andy Pages, who was pretty dang good last year.

    2. Roberts said after the press conference that he felt Tucker would hit in the top 3. You know Ohtani will hit first and Betts second, so three seems about right. If Doc opts for the left-right thing, the rest looks pretty good. According to his career splits, Freeman has hit .263 in 120 games batting in the 5 hole. His best numbers have come batting second. Smith is a .272 hitter in the cleanup spot. Teo hits .281 in the 6 hole and Muncy .228 batting 7th.

      1. I think the L/R thing has proven pretty effective, can’t see them rationalizing away from it.

FWIW, one of my favorite elements of the baseball media is when they describe something as “serious talks.”

When do discussions graduate from talking to seriously talking?

        Any ideas?

        1. That would probably be when they get down to exchanging who goes in trades, or how much money they are offering a free agent.

      1. Ohtoni comes along once in a lifetime and makes this all possible with his salary deferrals . The Dodgers should hope and pray they find another Ohtoni clone when his time is up with the Dodgers.

  26. really good info:

One reason the Dodgers can spend like this:

MLB agreed in court to cap their TV revenue sharing payments after the team went bankrupt. According to league sources, that exception doesn’t expire until 2039.

    It’s unprecedented in sports history….

  27. The New York Mets owner, Steve Cohen, is the wealthiest principal owner in the MLB, with an estimated net worth of over $21 billion as of late 2025. The total net worth of all 30 MLB owners combined is in the tens of billions of dollars.

Richard L. Monfort Colorado Rockies $700 million
Bruce Sherman Miami Marlins $500 million
Robert H. Castellini Cincinnati Reds $400 million

The owners should stop crying about a salary cap and spend more money on their player rosters.

    1. Yes, Steve Cohen’s Metropolitan Park project officially received final approval for a downstate New York casino license in December 2025.

Here are the key details of the development:
Partnership: The project is a joint venture between Cohen and Hard Rock International.
Total Investment: The development is estimated to cost $8.1 billion.
Location: It will be built on 50 acres of asphalt parking lots adjacent to Citi Field.
Facilities: Plans include a 1,000-room luxury hotel, 25 acres of public parkland, a 5,000+ seat music venue, and a massive casino featuring approximately 5,000 slot machines and 375 dealer tables.

This license was one of three awarded in the New York City area; the others went to Bally’s Corp. for a site in the Bronx and Resorts World for its existing facility in Queens.

This will be constructed on the 50 acres adjacent to the parking lots adjacent to the Met’s Citi Field. There is a video on line of Metropolitan Park to view.

        Tucker contract is perfection.

I bet Pages has a good year with these guys coming.

  29. The Yankees announced that they have claimed outfielder Michael Siani off waivers from the Dodgers. Los Angeles designated him for assignment earlier this week to open a roster spot for Kyle Tucker.

  30. Man, Quintero.

Signed as a catcher from Venezuela. Immediately converted to CF where his athleticism, power & speed are paired with plate discipline and room for all-around growth.
