NOTE: Cancel culture (or call-out culture) is a modern form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles – whether it be online, on social media, or in person. Those who are subject to this ostracism are said to have been “canceled”. MLB effectively “canceled” the State of Georgia by moving the Baseball All-Star Game out of Atlanta to another venue, simply because the State of Georgia passed a voter bill that requires I.D. and signature verification.
I am an American and so are my wife and family. My wife immigrated to this country when she was three. We believe that you have a right to your beliefs and freedom. Many years ago, I used to be a Democrat but changed affiliations to become a Republican… however, I am well toward the middle. I believe in religious freedom and freedom of speech. I believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I believe that you have as much right to your beliefs as I do to mine. I believe in Free Speech and Elections.
I have never “cancelled” a friend because of political disagreements, but in the past year, 63 of my “so-called” Democrat Friends have “cancelled me, including my oldest son. He refuses to talk to me until I repent of my evil ways. Needless to say, this has not went over well with the rest of the family, and while I have urged them not to “cancel” him, they have a hard time taking his calls and they don’t call him. It’s sad, but it has happened to many other friends.
The Dodgers, and Major League Baseball, in particular, have been a huge part of my life for almost 60 years. Today, I am ending that relationship. Major League Baseball and the Dodgers are something I can no longer be a part of. This is not a “knee-jerk” reaction. I am not burning memorabilia and the like, but I am packing all of my Dodger Gear, books, pictures, clocks, and jerseys into several large boxes and putting them into the attic. Deep down, I hope they will come to their senses, but my brain tells that ain’t happening! Cancel Culture is real and I guess the only way I have to stop Cancel Culture is to Cancel them as well.
It Didn’t Have to End This Way. MLB should have just played baseball and provided entertainment for the fans, but NO they had to get involved in Social Issues, which even if they were true (and they are not) are none of their business. This is baseball…not politics! MLB has canceled the All-Star Game in Atlanta because they believe that the Republicans are trying to suppress voting in Georgia for people of color. If you believe what the media and President Biden say, then you might be outraged too, but if you read the nearly 1,000-page document, you will be surprised to learn that the opposite is the case. Georgia is expanding people’s ability to vote. Don’t believe the Lying Media!”
What Joe Biden and the Left-Leaning Media are saying about the bill is demonstrably false, but even if it were true (and it’s not), what business is it of MLB? You can’t even run your own game, Rob Manfred! Why try and run others? MLB is headquartered in New York, whose election laws are more strict than the new Georgia laws… except for voter I.D.’s. Yet, they cancel Georgia!
MLB just pissed off approximately one-half of the country. Actually, it may be more than that, because some of the few Democrat friends I have left believe this is a very bad move. They don’t believe Joe Biden should have said it and they don’t believe MLB should have done it.
I waited in line for 7 hours to vote in 30-degree temperatures, three weeks into my recovery from COVID-19, but I did it! The Democrats simply want everyone to be able to vote, including people who left the state, people who left the earth, and anyone who wants to vote early and often. There is a lot at stake… perhaps everything! Feel free to disagree with that, after you read the Georgia Bill in its entirety. I dare you!
Look, the Georgia Bill has flaws, just like every bill, but it does provide for overall easier access to voting… but why are we even talking about this? This is supposed to be a baseball blog. Yes, it was… until MLB made it about politics. Politics have no place in baseball, but Commissioner Manfred put it there.
My Democrat Friends on this blog are probably happy and my Republican Friends on this blog are appalled. I said a long time ago, when the Dodgers acquired Manny Ramirez, that I would rather lose without him than win with him. I meant that. I am like the Marines, there is “No greater friend and no worse enemy!” I feel like the Dodgers and MLB betrayed my trust.
I have been writing this blog for about 20 years and have been a Dodger fan for 59 years. That all ended yesterday when I divorced MLB for cheating and lying and getting involved in stuff they never should have gotten into. Most Americans are too intellectually lazy to think for themselves and will believe the lying media instead of reading the facts for themselves. MLB caved into intellectual dishonesty and will live to regret it. Mark my words: Rob Manfred is bent on destroying this game and he took a big step yesterday!
EVEN IF THEY WERE RIGHT, THIS IS NONE OF THOR BUSINESS! They are punishing innocent people of Georgia for the (perceived) sins of some people. However, Cancel Culture pervades our Society, the Idiots on each side (BLM, Antifa, Proud Boys, and QAnon) do not represent most Americans. Another Idiot (a follower of Farrakhan) caused mayhem at the Capital yesterday. That’s appalling, but so is what is happening in Minneapolis, Portland, and Seattle by the other side. It is just as appalling as what happened on January 6th in DC.
America is becoming unrecognizable. We all can debate it, but what MLB is doing to Atlanta is BS! I will not be a part of it and neither should you. It’s your choice, but I will not lead my life supporting people who believe in Cancel Culture.
Someone told me that the Dems would try Cancel Culture on me and that I could not weather the storm. My response is “Bring it! I am the Storm!”
Goodbye, My Friends! I will miss you… but I will never look back. I am easy to find. Mark Timmons is my real name. I used to be passionate about the Dodgers. I am more passionate about America! I could campaign against MLB, but I have better things to do. I really am going to miss baseball and the Dodgers, but I will be fine and I will move on.
By the way, in California, the Governor is in the process of being recalled. They have the necessary signatures to do so, but the process is taking time BECAUSE THEY VERIFY EACH I.D. AND SIGNATURE! That is the very thing they are trying to do away with in other states, especially Georgia.
MLB has effectively marginalized half the country saying that your opinion does not count. I believe that there are more moderate people in the middle like me than there are lunatics on the left and idiots on the right and I think this is all going to backfire. There is a Red Storm coming! In the meantime, fans need to cancel Major League Baseball and it is starting with me….one of the biggest fans ever! MLB needs to feel the pain of being canceled!
