It’s hard to imagine a better team in MLB than the Dodger right about now. Yes, I know the Twins are doing well, but I can’t see them keeping it up. Their underlying peripherals don’t support their record, but they have been a pleasant surprise and great story. They are allegedly talking to Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel, but I think Dallas goes to the Yankees and Kimbrel goes to the ATL. Just my opinion.
The Dodgers are second in runs scored in MLB to the Twins, but are tied for 5th in HR. They have effectively figured out how to score without the long-ball and are manufacturing runs while improving dramatically with RISP. RVS and Company deserve a lot of credit, in my opinion. After last night’s gem they are just .03 behind Houston for 2nd in MLB ERA. As starters, they have a 2.83 ERA, just behind Tampa Bay’s 2.79. The next nearest team is Minnesota at 3.55. YIKES! The bullpen is getting better as well, especially when they don’t get exposed as much. They have moved up from 26th in ERA to 19th. Remember that the Red Sox pen was 17th in ERA last year.
It’s what you do… when! At any rate, the Dodgers ave the best record in baseball and are on a roll. It’s a different way every night. They are 25-7 at home and now 18-12 on the road. It was said they needed to get better on the road and they have. The Doc Roberts bashing has evaporated. No one questions the Hyun-jin Ryu signing anymore, as he is simply the best pitcher in baseball right about now. Turn the page.
Max Muncy & Justin Turner
Justin Turner is signed for one more season and the short-term answer at 3B as well as being JT’s caddy until he is gone is Max Muncy. I believe that if he plays every day, he can be a solid 3B. He’s no Gold Glover, but not many are. He has the arm to play the position and he can hold his own. JT seems to be breaking down, even more, this year, and he will be 35 in November. Maybe next year, Justin slides over to 1B and platoons with Joc or Matt Beaty, after Freeze is gone. David will be 37 next year, so a decision will have to be made about him.
Alex Verdugo
I was listening to MLB.Radio yesterday and Jim Bowden was talking about Alex. He said he mentioned to Andrew Friedman that Verdugo didn’t have much power. He said Andrew looked at him and said, “The power will come.” Bowden next said “If Friedman says it, I believe it!” That’s exactly what I believe too. This kid is even better than I thought and his attitude is simply amazing!
Kike Hernandez
Quick! Name a 2B with a better arm than Enrique Hernandez. You can’t! Hopefully, he gets hot the second half… like last year! Kike doesn’t have to pull the ball – he has the power to hit it out to the opposite field.
Corey Seager
Before he was injured and missed the 2018 season, Corey was arguably the best SS in baseball. Even Manny Machado could not carry his… hat. Well, it’s been a long road, coming back from Tommy John and hip surgery, but it looks to me that he is BACK. That means that this potent Dodger Offense might become lethal. Wow!

Minor League Favorites
AC and DC have the corner on the Dodger’s Minor League System. No one does it better. They both love to watch unheralded players as they journey through the system… well maybe not just “unheralded” prospects, but actually any prospect. They just especially love it when the underdog prevails against all odds. They will weigh in on the Dodgers Draft soon enough, so I am going to leave that to them. I do think that the Dodgers Top Four Picks have a ton of promise.
I am more fixated on players who are closer to the show, although I was in on Kershaw, Urias, Seager, Bellinger, and Verdugo very early on. Exceptional talent is easy for me to spot. Even Ray Charles can see it. In other words, I am very adept at perceiving the obvious immediately. However, there are quite a few players in the Dodger System who have struggled at times and are not always highly drafted… and even among the highly drafted, there are questions. Here are a few players I follow and root for:
Gavin Lux – I confess that I thought this was a wasted draft pick and it looked like it for quite some time, but then “Little Gavin” grew up and got his “man strength.” Even after his 0-5 night last night, Gavin is hitting .306 with a .890 OPS in a league that is not hitter friendly. Still just 21, he is ready to move up to AAA and probably will very soon. He is still playing SS and could play there in the majors, but most likely he moves to 2B. This was not a wasted pick.
Jeren Kendall – This guy is a 5-tool player, but has a huge swing and strikes out way too much. This season, he has raised his strikeout rate from 36% to 42% but also has doubled his walk rate, from 12% to 24%, so his batting average is lower at .205 compared to .215 last year, but his OB% has increased from .300 to .363. It’s incremental progress. I have no predictions but I do see some progress in pitch recognition. Friedman took a chance on this guy who has a high ceiling, but also a low floor. There is still time… but the clock is ticking.
Marshall Kasowski – He is 4-2 with a 2.08 ERA at Tulsa. He has a plus fastball and all he needs to do is throw more strikes. He has allowed just 12 hits in 21.2 innings and has struck out 38. He has walked 12 and if he has the ability to cut-down on bases on balls he could wind up in LA THIS season.
Jordon Sheffield – At age 24 and freshly converted to a reliever, Sheffield has been nothing short of amazing out of the bullpen. This season, he has a 1.90 ERA allowing just 6 hits (I said 6 hits) in 23.2 innings to go with 35 K’s and an 0.85 WHIP. He could also see him the Dodger bullpen THIS season as well.
Keibert Ruiz – Barely 20 years old, KayBear is hitting .272 with a.361 OB%. His power will come and he is likely another full year away, but he is the real deal. The Dodgers won’t push it as Will Smith looks to be ready. Watch this kid. He has some of the best bat-to-ball skills I have ever seen.
Tony Gonsolin – He just turned 25 and missed several weeks with a side injury and is just starting to stretch out again. He dominated at A and AA last year and 14 IP this year has a 1.93 ERA. In addition to a 100 MPH Fastball, he has three other plus pitches and I believe he could help in the bullpen this year. If I were in charge (I’m not), I would not stretch him out, This would be a bullpen year.
Those are my favorites, but there are a lot more as the farm system is absolutely loaded with depth. There are a few gems but many solid future major league players, including Dennis Santana, Caleb Ferguson, Dustin May, Michael Grove, Will Smith, Zach Reks, Kyle Garlick, and a plethora of others. A couple might achieve stardom, but getting to the Show is pretty special, in and of itself.
Minor League Report by DC
Player of the Day – A coin toss between Carlos Rincon and Jeter Downs who lost the toss.
Rincon: 2 hits, 1 run home run, walk, three RBI
Pitcher of the Day – Josiah Gray: 5 IP, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts
DSL Dodgers Shoemaker 11- DSL Red Sox2 15
Seven pitchers climbed the hill for the Dodgers. Five of them allowed runs ranging from one to six. Yamil Castillo did start with 2.2 scoreless innings with two hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Seventeen-year-old Frankelyn Felix atoned for his poor debut on Saturday by pitching a shutout inning on one hit.
Five Dodgers had multiple hit games. Of interest, Marlon Cairo from Havana, Cuba had two hits and six in his first three games in the DSL. Cairo is 23 years old and just beginning his career outside of Cuba. On the other end of the scale, 17-year-old Bladimir De La Rosa had his second consecutive game with three hits.
DSL Dodgers Bautista 3 – DSL Marlins 1
In this game five pitchers gave up only a total of three hits . They did walk five, three by starter Abel Moya. Axel Acevedo got the win while Jesus Turigo picked up the save.
The Dodgers also had only three hits but made them count. Luis Morales hit a home run, the first for team Bautista and Luis Yan had a two-run pinch hit single.
Great Lakes Loons 0 – Lansing Lugnuts 8 (Toronto)
The Loons quickly found a mountain too high to climb. In three innings of work,19-year-old Robinson Ortiz gave up seven runs, six earned including three in the top of the first inning. He did pick off two Lugnuts. He has been overmatched in the Midwest League having allowed 16 earned runs in nine innings and no doubt will be assigned to the Ogden Raptors who begin play on June 14. He was followed by right-hander Justin Hagenman who tossed one-hit ball for four innings with one walk and three strikeouts. Drew Finley came on in the top of the eighth inning and gave up an additional run in his two innings pitched.
Offensively there was little to talk about by the Loons who were held to three hits, all singles
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7 – Lancaster JetHawks 3 (Colorado)
Josiah Gray started for the Quakes and impressed early striking out the side in the top of the first inning throwing 15 pitches, 13 for strikes. In the top of the third inning Gray gave up a two-run home run to JetHawk second baseman Carlos Herrera. He finished the night with five innings and no more runs.
Relievers Melvin Jiminez, Wes Helsabck and Logan Salow finished off the last four innings with a single run by Jiminez and giving up a combined two hits.
With the bats Jeter Downs and Devin Mann had back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first inning, the ninth for both. They added three more with a hit parade in the bottom of the third inning including a Donovan Casey triple, an Austin Barnes single, a Jeter Downs double and a Devin Mann single. The Quakes expanded the lead to 7-2 scored in the fourth inning on a Jeren Kendall triple and a Nick Yarnell sacrifice fly, plus Drew Avans running wild after his single. He stole second, advanced to third on an error and headed home on a balk. Mann, Kendall, Casey and Avans had two hits while Jeter Downs had three.
Tulsa Drillers 7- Springfield Cardinals 5 (STL)
Edwin Uceta made his AA debut with the Drillers and sailed through the first three innings unscathed. In the top of the fourth inning following a HBP and a single, he served up a three-run home run to Cardinal center fielder Randy Arozaren. He returned for the fifth inning giving up a single and an intentional walk but no runs. Chris Nunn pitched two clean innings and Shea Spitzbarth came on in the top of the eighth. After getting the first two hitters Spitzbarth played with fire walking the bases full on 15 pitches. He got burned by a two-run double dropping the Drillers behind 5-4. Marshall Kasowskiwas called upon to strand two runners and did so with a ground out. He finished off the top of the ninth for the win.
At the plate the Drillers took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Christian Santana and a two-run home run by Carlos Rincon. The pair teamed up again in the bottom of the seventh inning when Rincon singled in Santana giving the Drillers a 4-3. The Drillers tied it up at five with a Zach McKinstry single in the bottom of the eighth inning and an error by Johan Mieses on a Cody Thomas single allowing McKinstry to score all the way from first base. Thomas then scored on a Keibert Ruiz sacrifice fly. An insurance run scored on a DJ Peters double giving the Drilers a 7-5 lead.
OKC Dodgers 6 – Sacramento River Cats 4 (SF)
Tony Gonsolin started for the Dodgers and did not have his best stuff giving up two runs, both unearned in 2.1 innings pitched with three hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Justin Grimm followed with 1.2 scoreless innings while Rob Zastryzny went two innings giving up one run on three hits. Left-hander Caleb Ferguson came on in the top of the seventh inning and mirrored Grimm with 1.2 scoreless innings. JT Chargois finished up with a run on three hits.
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the second, the Dodgers scored in the next three innings. A Drew Jackson double brought home a run in the bottom of the second while a Kyle Garlick double and a Shane Peterson home run brought home three more in the third inning. An additional run scored in each of the fourth and fifth innings on a Shane Peterson ground out and an Edwin Rios sacrifice fly.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Freeze signed for another year, lets see how he holds up for the whole year. After all we kept Utley until he was about 60 years old, so why not him. Ouch Muncy 4Ks last nite
Common, 9 shoutout innings, 3 hits by the dbags, only one run in two games, Ryu 8 more shotout innings, 9 runs yesterday, homeruns , doubles, triples, and you only saw 4 k’s by Muncy? By the way perfect defense by Muncy!!!!
Wow! The Twins finally lost!!! This means the Dodgers finally have the best record in MLB. Never mind that the Twins have a cream puff schedule, the Dodgers have cemented themselves as the best team in baseball last night with a relentless beat-down of yet another division rival.
Draft day 2 is complete and although I’m don’t see a lot of familiar names, I’m confident that these future Dodgers will be hugged as they turn into prospects over the next couple of years. I have a lot of confidence in this front office picking quality players out of the pool of seemingly endless choices.
Now is the time we start to look forward to the next milestone of the season, the trade deadline. Although, as Mark mentioned, the pen is looking better when not exposed, we still ahve work to do. Back to AC’s early declaration, we need 2 arms in the pen to build it into something dominant. We need a lefty that can consistently get lefties out and a setup guy. I know that Baez has been looking great in the 8th recently, but lets make sure we have coverage in case of injury or the inevitable gasolino meltdown. It seems to me that it would be beneficial to get some reps to Sheffield and or Kasowski before the deadline, but neither are at AAA thus far so and they aren’t on the 40. This might be wishful thinking at this point in time. More likely, Gonsolin may have a chance to show us something soon. Could he be the 8th inning guy? Could Ferguson come back and be the lefty? There will be some tough choices with a full bullpen already…
Who loses their job if / when we add another arm?
Alexander – Has options remaining
Baez – The other dependable arm?
Floro – Has options remaining
Garcia – No options
Jansen – NA
Kelly – NA
Stripling – Has options remaining
Urias – Has options remaining
Adding a right handed power bat would be as difficult and probably less likely. Pollock will return eventually, Freese will play 1B and Kike will play somewhere against lefties. Add in a catcher (all of them are right handed hitters) and Turner and we have 5 righties against left handed starters. Of course, smart opposing managers will exploit Kike’s and Joc’s splits whenever possible with openers, etc.
Re: Justin Turner, I wonder, given the Dodgers substantial lead, if it wouldn’t be wiser to place him on the IL, and just let him heal completely. Of course the brass has a lot more information than I do, so maybe they have it right.
I still think that once he pulls it all together, that there is no better hitter on the Dodgers than Cory Seager. In fact, I have long thought that a completely healthy Cory Seager is capable of hitting 30-40 HRs. Remember, he has not had a fully healthy year since hitting 26 his rookie year.
I have no problem with Max Muncey at 3B. Given time to get comfortable over there, I am sure that he can be, at least adequate, and maybe more.
I love Verdugo, and still believe that there’s more power in there than many believe.
I have been up and down on Kike’, but have lately been encouraged by more hits to the opposite field. Maybe he’s on the verge of fulfilling his promise, maybe not. I’m even beginning to become a little encouraged by CT3, but I’m not so sure how long that will last.
Don’t know enough to have an opinion on our minor leaguers, but it at least seems as if there is reason to be encouraged.
I must admit that I couldn’t find anything to complain about regarding Doc, last night. I just wondered why we didn’t see Kelly, but then I remembered he pitched the night before.
It seems it will be up to Freese whether to play any additional years after this one. I would imagine if we win the WS this year, which I think we will, he might want to stick around for another go or threepeat. Freese saw more time at 3B, I believe, when he was with other clubs. He very well could be interchangeable with Muncy at 3B if they moved JT to 1B, but neither Freese nor Muncy are gg’ers as was mentioned above. It seems Corey may not be one with all the errors he’s been making. But we’ll see.
As I said some time ago, this team needs no repairs. Don’t touch it and let it come together as it has been doing. Everyone doing there job, but Verdugo needs to visit the wizard for some power.
I was thinking the same about “good time to bring in Kelly’. Eventually we’ll need him to go back to back games though.
Walker Buehler’s coach/friend is now a coach at Tulane, so Buehler knows quite a bit about our 1s round pick.
Buehler says his swing reminds him of Ryan Braun.
I like the sound of that!
Maybe as a hitter…
Not as a 3B!
Nothing to complain about Roberts! What an idiot pulling Ryu and bringing in Garcia and Alexander. They almost blew the game! Sorry, just practicing for later!
lol! That was funny! Thanks Cassidy.
That was really funny….You make me smile ha ha ha
DODGERS RECALL OF KYLE GARLICK
INF MATT BEATY PLACED ON 10-DAY IL
LOS ANGELES– The Los Angeles Dodgers today recalled outfielder Kyle Garlick from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed infielder Matt Beaty on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 3, with a left hip flexor strain.
Garlick, 27, will join the team for the third time this season. In his previous two stops, the outfielder played in three games, going 0-for-3 in his stay. In 43 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, he is batting .290 (42-for-145) with 12 homers and 33 RBI. In his last eight games with Oklahoma City, he is batting .333 (9-for-27) with two homers and 13 RBI. The former Cal Poly Pomona Bronco was originally selected in the 28th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft and has accounted for 80 homers and 257 RBI in his five minor league seasons with the Dodgers.
Beaty, 26, appeared in 17 games for the Dodgers, batting .286 (12-for-42) with one double and seven RBI. He made his Major League debut on April 30 against the San Francisco Giants, recording a single up the middle for his first hit in the Majors. The infielder is third on the team with four pinch hits, while leading the squad with a .571 (4-for-7) batting average from the pinch. The former Belmont Bruin has been with the Dodger organization since being drafted in 12th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft.
Nice to see Garlick back on the bench again. I hope he has some success this time. No knock on Beaty who’s done a very good job in his role and I hope to see him back soon.
I was surprised they didn’t do that yesterday
This is Garlick’s shot. They need a right handed bat more than a left. If he hits he stays. Who’s the next Taylor or Muncy for 2019? We’re getting spoiled!
A CBS sports analyst talked about the Dodgers improvement in “clutch” hitting stats:
* 1st in RBI’s with runners on and 2 outs
* 2nd in RBI’s with 2 outs
* 2nd in RBI’s with 0-2 counts
* 2nd in RBI’s when game is tied
He noted that these are huge improvements over previous years and that these are key areas for winning in the post season. He also raved about the young talent on the roster.
Favorite quote from the video: “the Dodgers are not only building potentially for a world series winner this year, but a team that will compete perhaps for a DECADE of DOMINATION.” (caps emphasis mine)

Yes, seems like this is much more due to philosophy than anything else. The new hitting gurus are doing a great job getting buy in from this group. Getting rid of Puig has proven to be a smart move since he always had his own agenda. Back of the jersey kind of guy.
Great points – the hitting coaches really seemed to have made a difference. Also not having hitters like Puig will also improve those stats. Do you see Kike and Joc making progress in “clutch” hitting stats? Bellinger, Turner, Freese, Muncy, and Verdugo seem like they do pretty well in these areas.
Special treat day game today with a good lineup. Nothing weird. Justin’s back! I like Seager behind Bellinger providing some protection, but I would rather see him back in the 2 hole.

If Maeda is our #5, then it says a lot about the other 4.
What to do with Will? He looks ready to me.
Get KBear reps at 1B every day….
Are we sure Barnes is healthy enough to come back Friday. Maybe we should be super cautious and give him another 10 days. Then another and another and……….
Barnes is ready, but so is Smith. Garlick goes back.
It makes sense to keep the best catcher up and on the team until he shows he can’t hit anymore. Let Martin catch one guy and let Smith and Barnes split the other 4 guys.
I think Martin’s back hurts again.
Dammit. Why is it that no one can pitch in the 8th inning on this team?
Dammed if ANYONE knows. Hope Muncy is out of his mini slump. Before that single he K’d 7 times in a row, I think.
Becuz..
We got a barn burner today
Good to see Locastro.
Go Blue..
DR’s FAULT.
.
OK. No big deal. Today is only one loss in the 50 to 60 we will lose. Nothing more and nothing less. Let’s move on.
So predictable. As soon as he intentionally walks the righty so Alexander could face the lefty, I knew the game was over.
Second post of the day…
“Back to AC’s early declaration, we need 2 arms in the pen to build it into something dominant. We need a lefty that can consistently get lefties out and a setup guy.”
It’s like I was foreshadowing.
I don’t think the Dodgers should go after a lefty just because of the match, they should go after the best available. I don’t like pitchers that are only effective vs one side of the plate. That’s why I don’t care for Floro, he’s only effective vs right handed hitters.
If it’s not Kimbrel then I’m thinking Doolittle and Giles. But it depends on who the Dodgers have to give up.
I have no problem with the Dodgers trading for a great relief pitcher, just as long as they can keep them longer than the end of the year. Trade some of our players in the minors like Toles, who is another left handed hitter with some minor league prospect like Kendell??
We won 2 of 3. All you can do on the road. Now let’s go take 2-3 in sf
I hope they avoid all the poop in the streets when they make their way to the stadium in SF.
Poop and syringes
One of my all-time favorite bands.
I was the Bass Player in that band. I wrote a few tunes also. We were ahead of our time.
We have watched in horror as people just walk around completely NUDE. We have pics of the freak shows that San Francisco calls residents. And they actually take a dump where they are standing at the moment. It is not the city of the 1940’s and 50’s anymore.
60,000 homeless in LA now days. Trash, rats, fleas and disease. Terrible and no solution on the horizon.
California is the land of the Elites now. I have to move in a few months to Idaho, Montana, Wyoming or Oregon or WA.
Not being sarcastic, but a general question: what do you all think one needs to earn nowadays to enjoy life in CA (and I mean LA, not San Bernardino or Palmdale)
And yes, it is becoming more extreme as far as income disparity goes. sucks
BOBBY. For some reason, there is no “Reply” symbol under your comment to click. But people in the Bay Area making over 50K can’t pay their rent. Our rent right now for a 1,100 sq.ft apt is $3,300.00
Just 5 years ago it was $1,400. And that is considered a deal right now at 3,300
The Techies have taken over the apartments on the Peninsula and forced long time residents to move. That is us. We have been here for 27 years and just in the last 5 it has gone crazy.
We will actually be buying a home in one of the states I mentioned above.
I left the Bay Area 13 years ago. Never been happier.
Nice article on the Dodgers and the good players in the system. The Dodgers seem to have solid starters who get killed by the BP.
I know you think Kimbrel and Keuchel are out, but the Dodgers should make a strong run at each. You can never have enough good pitching. Although after half a year, how effective will they be just stepping in after not playing for so long??
Bellinger’s bat seems to be quieting down. I hope he can get into another streak soon.
Will Smith doesn’t seem over awed by MLB pitching. They”ll find a weakness and exploit it and he’ll have to adjust. That’s hitting in the majors. And the best is yet to come so they say. 20 year old Ruiz and 17 year old Cartaya. Good, better, best.
Why didn’t Alexander walk Peralta as well, setting up a force at the plate?
I couldn’t understand that strategy either Rudy. Alexander’s splits are drastically one sided, but he actually does way better against right handed batters. So they go ahead and walk Marte to get to the left handed batter and what does that do anyway since even if they get him to hit into a double play the winning run scores while that’s happening. They were probably afraid that if they walked Peralta, Alexander’s control might not be good enough to avoid walking in the winning run. Guess what, if you’re worried about that possibility, the guy should be working on his craft at OKC.
To me, that game was lost by the offense… not the bullpen.
The Dodgers hit a lot of fly balls that died near the warning track today.
You lost that game Mark. It is yours and Docs fault.
Hahahahahahahahaha. That was really funny Mark. So you think it’s unreasonable to ask your pen to hold a one run lead after 7? The Yankees don’t. We need to upgrade Alexander and Floro since both can’t get lefties out. Option them, let them figure it out and try again next year.
The Cubs have done AF a favor and are signing Kimbrel. No details yet.
AF never gets the deal done on these types of deals. Watch, we will get some guy who is 102 years old with a bionic arm.
Ryan Madsen is available
Sign him up!
So, every game we lose is because Roberts is an idiot or the bullpen sucks?
It’s always someone’s fault.
We have to blame someone… anyone.
I just don’t get that kind of 11 year-old thinking!
It is your fault, like I said. YOU have given Doc a Big Head. He reads this column, obviously. 🙂
By the way, the GREAT YANKEES have not won a single game this year in which they scored 2 or less runs!
NONE!
When you score 2 or less runs you are destined to lose… just about every time.
Yes, the bullpen needs to get better… we are still the best team in baseball.
Geeeeezzzzz!
The Yankees have blown 7 saves this year. The Dodgers have blown 10! Neither team is perfect. Let’s see where it’s at when the season ends.
DODGERS ANNOUNCE SELECTIONS FROM THIRD DAY OF 2019 DRAFT
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers today announced their final 30 picks from the third day of the 2019 Draft.
The Dodgers made 41 overall selections in this year’s draft, picking 20 pitchers (12 right-handers, eight left-handers), 10 outfielders, nine infielders and two catchers. Of the 21 drafted position players, 14 are right-handed hitters, five are left-handed hitters and two are switch-hitters. Thirty-three were selected from the college ranks, while eight were drafted out of high school.
On the draft’s third and final day, the Dodgers picked 23 players from the college ranks including RHP Logan Boyer (San Diego State), LHP Mitchell Tyranski (Michigan State), LHP Jacob Cantleberry (Missouri), LHP Sean Mellen (Northeastern), OF Joe Vranesh (St. Mary’s), RHP Andrew Baker (Chipola College), OF Brandon Wulff (Stanford), LHP Jeff Belge (St. John’s), LHP Braidyn Fink (Oklahoma), RHP Zack Plunkett (Arkansas), SS Jimmy Titus (Bryant University), RHP Cyrillo Watson (Illinois), CF Chet Allison (Fresno City College), OF Jonny Deluca (Oregon), RHP Mark Mixon (Miami), RHP Parker Brahms (Sacramento State), RHP Josh Ibarra (Golden West College), CF Danny Sinatro (Washington State), 3B Julio Carrion (Chipola College), CF Justin Washington (Savannah State), RF Matthew Kanfer (Pepperdine), C Tyler Ryan (University of the Pacific) and C Ty Haselman (UCLA).
In addition, the Dodgers selected seven high school players in J.M. Tate HS (FL) OF Trey LaFleur, Woodstock HS (GA) SS Brennan Milone, Rutherford HS (NJ) SS Breyln Jones, Dixie HS (UT) SS Kayle Yates, Puerto Rico Baseball Academy (PR) LHP Francisco Martinez, Mount Vernon Presbyterian School (GA) CF Tres Gonzalez and Pantego Christian Academy (TX) LHP Caden MacDonald.
Three of this year’s draftees have family ties to the Major Leagues. UCLA catcher Ty Haselman is the son of Bill Haselman, who caught in the Major Leagues for 13 years and is now the Dodgers’ Player Development Manager Coordinator. Danny Sinatro’s father, Matt, played for four teams in his ten-year career, while Breyln Jones is the son of former pitcher Bobby Jones.
A complete list of the Dodgers’ selections from the 2019 First-Year Player Draft can be found using the following link: https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker/all/team/dodgers
I think they had a very good draft. I wanted Chase Strumpf from UCLA, but they took a different guy.
Kike has left, in the last week, to pull everything, is using the whole field and the results are in sight, it is another Kike. he will have to fight his whole career with that bad habit of wanting to pull everything, I just hope that when the spaces of time fall back shorter, I think he is a 2B who can do a .270, 25 HR, 80 RBI with a defense of caliber of GG, of those there are very few. It affects him, I do not play every day, if he is not hot with the bat, he can give you a game with his defense, let Enrique play every day in 2B.
Wow, Cubs sign Kimbrel. Sooo, where are the Freidman bashers now, because he got outbid for Morrow a few years ago, who by the way is still laid up. Now the Cubs have to swallow his contract and pay Kimbrel his cash. Before some of you guys on this site tar and feather Andrew, don’t forget he has waaaayyy more information on players and what they may trend toward performance wise and injury wise than we do, He rode Morrow for a great year, but wouldn’t pony up for a big contract for an injury prone pitcher. This is one of the reasons why we are so successful every year, Freidman seems to know when to cut bait on the boat anchor contracts, and not make an emotional signing, even when us keyboard warriors are trashing his ass. Trust the process, brothers, trust the process.
Keyboard Warriors – Love it!
Kimbrel gets 3 years/$43 Million.
Maybe it will be a stroke of genius, but Theo’s record lately ain’t good. This smacks of a “dope-fiend move” to me.
Agreed Mark, I don’t think Epstein had any choice. He had to make that move, while anybody with any in depth knowledge of our bullpen knows that Kimbrel is not a good fit for us. Everybody just needs to hang on to their jock straps , take a deep breath, cough to the right, and be patient. Freidman knows that the’pen needs help, but if you look at his history, he doesn’t make a move just because we are screaming for one. He is a patient poker player, knows when to hold ’em, knows when to fold ’em. Help will come, only on his terms and not someone else’s. That thinking is why we are so frigging stacked right now. By the way, we lost today, so fire Doc for being a dumbass once again , because every time we lose it’s on him, not the players lack of execution, and get rid of Freidman for being clueless and assembling a weak team, who even though have the best record in MLB, Just sayin’.
Oh yes, and Friedman knew exactly when to hold em and knew when to sign the retreads last season with the brilliant acquisitions of Roscup and Ryan Madsen??
I like Friedman very much too, but for crying out loud, let’s not be blind to what “improvements” he made to the bullpen last season.
Let’s hope he learned that you can’t go to Big Lots and somehow purchase a 4k tv for $15 that actually works. Let’s hope he understands that perhaps he let a chance at a title last season slip away by not fixing one of our biggest issues, and let’s hope that this year he does the right thing and actually improves the pen (like he did to the staff with Darvish, 2017, and to the offense with Machado, 2018).
Now, if he goes and pays up the prospect price for a Brad Hand, or a Doolitte or Edwin Diaz , etc, and those guys choke come October? Well, that’s on THEM, not Friedman! I won’t fault Friedman if he got the pieces but the pieces failed when it mattered most. I’ll fault him if he goes on the cheap and picks up some washed up journeyman reliever again midseason.
I wonder what Brad Hand will cost us. Will Smith ?
It may have to be done
No way do they go after him. Too rich a contract for AF. Are the Indians even interested in trading him?
no idea, just thinking (and typing) out loud
But thought process was Cleve traded a lot for him last year for their playoff push. This year they may be out of it within the next 5 weeks, and so they’d want to recoup back some prospects for him?
Hand would cost a lot less than Kimbrel so I don’t think that the contract cost would keep him from going after Hand. More likely it might be the cost in prospects.
Hand’s contract is 6.5 mil for 2019, 7 mil for 2020 and a TEAM option for 2021 at 10 mil with a 1 mil buyout.
Even if they pick up the team option it’s a little more than half of Kimbrel’s new contract.
Why would Cleve be willing to part with him? He’s got 17 saves this year. Unless there is something I don’t see, Cleveland is going to need a good closer next year, too, and he’s already under contract for next season.
I can’t see this FO going for someone like Hand. Kenley is going nowhere and Kelly is the project they have for this role of bridge. But I think Urias will fill out this role as the season continues.
So you’re telling me your not happy with Alexander! As long as we have a 10 run lead he’s our man. He just struggles a little bit in tight games!

I guess that it’s a fair reflection of where we are at, that every time we lose, it feels like one that got away.
Maeda was dealing early but the Offense couldn’t put it to bed.
Then the Pen couldn’t do the job.
Certainly need another quality, reliable arm down there.
…. which could come from within!
